Halo 4 Majestic Map Pack details and pictures revealed

0

343 Industries today announced the first details for the next major expansion in the Halo Infinity Multiplayer experience, the Majestic Map Pack, launching next Monday, 25th February. Developed by Certain Affinity, in collaboration with 343 Industries, the Majestic Map Pack delivers the close-quarters action fans have been craving in three all-new maps designed specifically for tight, competitive combat in small-team and free-for-all modes.

halo_4_majestic_map_pack_landfall_07

Landfall’s emphasis is on infantry battles amidst a glittering ocean and a city under siege on a distant world. Monolith is an open battlefield; a Forerunner monument that exposes you to the naked vacuum of space –and the firepower of opposing teams. Skyline puts you in the air on a new construction site, and its distinctly industrial surroundings and sky-high locale provides new challenges in confined spaces.

Additionally, the map pack introduces two new “Majestic DLC” playlists and a new free-for-all game type, “Infinity Rumble,” that is exclusive to the “Majestic DLC” playlist for a limited time, as well as 10 new Achievements worth a total of 250 Gamerscore.

Descriptions of the three maps are as follows:

New Battlegrounds: Majestic Map Pack

· Landfall: A shining city under attack…

o The world of Tribute is now a graveyard, but its capital was once a bright beacon of commerce among the inner colonies. Fight in the corridors and courtyards of Casbah’s port authority buildings, but don’t stand still too long. Perfect for Infinity Slayer, this small to mid-size asymmetrical map offers interiors with sparse cover, which encourages close-range combat, while the exteriors offer long lines of sight to stalk your opponents. Awesome jump routes let players spring around the outside of the map, incidentally offering a perfect view of the city as it is razed by the Covenant’s brutal assault.

halo_4_majestic_map_pack_landfall_01 halo_4_majestic_map_pack_landfall_02

· Monolith: Adrift in a forgotten asteroid belt…

o This monument and many like it were built by the Forerunners after their final victory over the ancient humans. This small map has central man-cannons, short corridors, almost no cover, and open sightlines which make the location great for a mixture of close and mid-range battle. Monolith harkens back to more classic “Halo” arena-based maps, and its symmetry lends nicely to objective-based modes like Capture the Flag. Monolith is an open battlefield; wherever you look, you will witness the ferocious action that only a small and open map can provide.

halo_4_majestic_map_pack_landfall_03 halo_4_majestic_map_pack_landfall_04

· Skyline: Combat analysts agree…

o The rooftop terrain on this new space tether construction site is an ideal training environment for close-quarters infantry combat. This map, perched high above the sights of reconstruction in Cascade’s capital city, is small and symmetrical, perfect for Regicide with a mixture of high and low spaces and plenty of cover. Don’t think cover means you’re safe, however – this map holds explosive fuel cells that can and will wreak havoc in Skyline’s confined spaces, not to mention the long, long drop if you misstep.

The Majestic Map Pack will be available on Xbox LIVE for 800 Microsoft Points on Monday 25th February. Players who purchase the “Halo 4” War Games Map Pass or “Halo 4” Limited Edition will receive access to both the Crimson (out now) and Majestic Map Packs, as well as the final map pack when it releases in April at a 15 per cent savings versus purchasing them individually.

Far Cry 3 Update Coming Soon Adding Master Difficulty, Multiplayer Fixes

0

Ubisoft has announced a number of new features in the works for Far Cry 3 in upcoming updates.

For the single-player campaign, a new Master difficulty setting  will be available, offering a greater challenge through more aggressive enemy AI and wildlife. Ubisoft has not specified whether Master difficulty will be  available immediately after the update or if players will need to complete the game on one of the prior difficulties first.

far cry 3 screenshot

The single-player campaign will also add the option to reset all outposts,  allowing players to recapture outposts after completing the game. The option  will only be available to users who have finished the game and captured all  outposts, and will hide all incomplete side-quests until their associated  outpost has been recaptured.

For multiplayer, Ubisoft has added a feedback system for custom maps, letting users give feedback directly to map makers like whether a map is too big or small, or does not have enough  cover.

There will also be an option to beta test custom maps, allowing  map creators to spectate over matches and see how other users are playing on their maps.

Other fixes include an option to search for new maps based on  author, disabling the timer to kick idle players from private and custom matches  and revised voting to skip maps in multiplayer.

Ubisoft did not specify when this updates will arrive, nor for which versions of the game will get the update.

Review of Assassin’s Creed III The Tyranny of King Washington DLC episode 1 The Infamy

AC3_DLC_SP_15_Frontier_RatonWolfLead[1]

This three-part single-player experience will let gamers discover an alternate history of the events following the American Revolution where George Washington has succumbs to the temptation of infinite power and crown himself king.

In the first episode of the Tyranny of King Washington series, our hero, Ratonhnhaké:ton, awakens from an unsettling dream to find that, despite his efforts to deliver justice in the newly-founded United States of America, a new king has been crowned – George Washington. The Infamy will take gamers through the beginning of the journey to dethrone King Washington.

Ratonhnhaké:ton awakes in a familiar place, but everything has changed. Caught in the middle of violence and confusion, he finds himself confronting the Mad Kind – George Washington.

And that is how part one starts – Ratonhnhaké:ton wakes up next to his mother, and immediately he senses that something isn’t right – after all, she’s supposed to be dead! He doesn’t quite know what’s going on but he senses everything is different. He isn’t Connor, he never became Connor, he is Ratonhnhaké:ton.

From then on it’s classic Assassin’s Creed III gameplay – going from mission to mission, fighting, killing, rescuing and getting that bit closer to the Mad King. This whole part is set in the Frontier, so will seem familiar, but different.

AC3_DLC_SP_14_Frontier_GeorgeWashington_online

There is even a sequence were you have you use a cannon, yes, you read that correctly, a cannon to stop the approaching armies. And did I mention horseback riding?

There is a nice sequence around the mid-point of the episode where Ratonhnhaké:ton’s mother gives him something of his fathers and goes to explain what they are what his father one – obviously we know all about these items and so does Ratonhnhaké:ton, even though he can’t quite explain why. It’s the classic “suiting up” sequence from any heroic story and it’s nice to have some familiar weapons to help the struggle.

Ubisoft said that this story is considered Canon, and this certainly helps to ensure that this is the case.

One thing that is new to this DLC is that each episode will give Ratonhnhaké:ton a new ability which will help him throughout all the parts of the story and transform the gameplay into something new. In order to receive each new ability, Ratonhnhaké:ton has to visit the Sky World and complete a task and upon successful completion he will receive his new ability.

AC3_DLC_SP_21_Frontier_Invisibility3_online

in The Infamy, the new ability is called The Wolf Cloak and this gives him the power of invisibility. There is a lot of stealth elements needed to complete this part and the Wolf Cloak proves invaluable. However it does come with a price – while it is being used your health will slowly reduce, so if you are not careful the cloak will stop working at the worst possible moment and you will have no health left so it will be fairly easy to die!

The other ability the Wolf Cloak brings in the Wolf Pack. This ability sends forth a pack of invisible wolves which will go and attack anything in range. This is not only great for dispatching a large group of enemies, but also for helping with distractions.

AC3_DLC_SP_21_Frontier_Invisibility2_online

There are numerous missions throughout part one with names such as “Sky World Journey”, “One Man Wolf Pack” and “Path of Revenge”.

If you play a lot of Assassin’s Creed III, then the first thing you will probably notice, other than the fact Connor isn’t Connor, is that the art style is much grittier and darker. This is used very well to show how different this “reality” is, and added to that the music for this part is amazing, and really adds to the atmosphere. There is a sequence in the game (I’m not going to spoil it by saying which one, but you will know which one I am referring to when you get there – trust me) that literally made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. Once again the music is composed by Lorne Balfe and he has done a wonderful job.

The addition of the new abilities really adds to the game – and with each part you get a new ability and you will be able to use them together. And I am really pleased with how Ubisoft handled this new timeline – they could have just taken Connor and put him in this new timeline without any thought for the Assassin’s Creed story, but they have really given it a lot of thought and I am pleased with the outcome.

And like any good episodic story, this one ends on a cliff-hanger!

The Infamy will take you somewhere between an hour and a half to two hours to finish, with the all three parts taking around 7 and a half hours. It is important to remember that even though it is split into three episodes, it’s really one 7 and a hour story, so keep that in mind when you consider buying it. The Betrayal, which is episode 2 will be available on March 19th, but more on the soon, with the final part, The Redemption out in April.

I have tried to steer clear of giving too much of the storyline away because I don’t want to ruin it for anyone – I really enjoyed part one, and like any multipart story it can be a little slow at times, but that doesn’t detract from the enjoyment at all, and I can’t wait to play the other parts to see how the story progresses.

If you are a fan of Assassin’s Creed III, then this is a must have addition, with the only frustration being that you have to wait for the next parts once you get to the end of this one.

Starting today, Microsoft will begin automatically upgrading all Hotmail users to Outlook.com expecting to be finished by summer 2013. Outlook.com has achieved more excitement and scale than expected; there are 60m+ active users worldwide in a little more than six months of service and it has become the fastest growing email service today.  Over one third of the new users in the US are upgrading from Gmail, the rest are primarily Hotmail users.

Over 12 million Outlook.com customers are using Sweep, Schedule cleanup, and similar tools to organise their inbox. Over 25 million Outlook.com customers have embraced SkyDrive to share over half a billion photos and Office documents.

Outlook.com is today announcing general availability and removing the preview tag.

  • Upgrade from Hotmail to Outlook.com is seamless and automatic, Hotmail users won’t need to do anything and will be kept informed about the upgrade.

The PlayStation 4 will retail at £300 in the UK, according to the latest reports. Industry sources and leaked documents obtained by The Times suggest that the console will launch at around the same price as a Premium Wii U, and but still £100 cheaper then the PS3 did when it first launched in the UK.

Previous reports have suggested that the console will retail at 40,000 Yen when  it launches in Japan, which is roughly $428 in North America and approximately £270 in the UK (based on current exchange rates).

However, prices often vary between regions, with European customers typically expected to pay more. Sony is widely expected to unveil the PlayStation 4 at its February  20 press conference, with images of what is believed to be prototype controllers for the console recently leaking online (pictured above).
