Review: Motorcycle Mechanic Simulator 2021

Motorcycle Mechanic Simulator 2021 is an informative title that is relaxing and enjoyable. However, it is tainted by poor controls and this impacts the end product. Yet, if you can look past this issue, you’ll enjoy a deep and testing game that teaches you the ins and outs of motorcycle repair.

This simulation title was developed by Play2Chill and published by Ultimate Games. Moreover, there are some open-world driving elements and some business management moments. Accordingly, it’ll appease many fans of the genre even though the controls are somewhat clunky.

Will you be able to repair this bike?
So many elements to fix.

Build your empire in Motorcycle Mechanic Simulator 2021.

Motorcycle Mechanic Simulator 2021 is a detailed title that tests your mechanical knowledge. Thankfully, you don’t need to be mechanically minded to get the most out of this game. Instead, a helpful guidance system points you in the right direction and this keeps you on track.

The action revolves around a small business owner and their desire to expand their empire. At first, you own a tiny garage and have limited appeal. Yet, as time passes and your reputation and skills evolve, you are tasked with fixing complex issues and repairing bigger and more impressive bikes. Furthermore, if you are successful, you’ll own a fleet of garages that’ll deal with any task that is thrown your way.

Easy to understand.

Repairing bikes may not come naturally to you. Moreover, you may not know the filter from the brake pad. Yet, thanks to the excellent game mechanics, you needn’t worry about the finer details. Instead, any problematic parts are highlighted with a red hue. This is perfect as you can identify any problems immediately.

On top of this, you will be told about any parts that must be removed and how to purchase or repair any bits as you go. Additionally, once you have put the vehicle back together, you are free to test-ride it to see if you’ve resolved the issue. This part of the action was hilarious. As you explore the map, the bike would go wrong if the problems weren’t fixed. Consequently, you’d hit barriers, walls, or other obstacles. As such, it was a painful reminder of your inability to resolve any problems.

Use your money to improve your garage.
Time to improve your garage.

Skill tree and a trip to the yard.

Another fine element was the skill tree. As you completed any tasks, you earned XP that helped you to improve your character. Subsequently, you could identify issues without inspecting parts, unscrew bolts faster, or earn more money. Whatever you picked, it would improve your gaming experience and make the action a bit more manageable.

However, the piece de resistance has to be the ability to salvage parts and build your bike. I loved this aspect of the gameplay as it allowed you to dive into every layer of bike repair. Moreover, you were free to sell any vehicle that you built and this allowed you to expand your empire further.

Motorcycle Mechanic Simulator 2021 looks surprisingly good.

The simulation genre isn’t the most attractive around. Yes, there is the odd exception, but normally, developers focus on gameplay elements as opposed to visual prowess. Thankfully, Motorcycle Mechanic Simulator 2021 looks surprisingly good, mostly. The bike repair element is exceptionally detailed and each part looks as it should. However, the open-world riding moments are janky and dated. Accordingly, this layer of gameplay should have been much better.

The soft and subtle soundtrack was reminiscent of a hotel lobby or a high-class lift. Subsequently, the understated music was relaxing and pleasant to listen to. Yet this was juxtaposed by the loud and gruff sound effects of every vehicle. This was disappointing as the engine noises were not realistic and this undermined the end product.

There are plenty of motorcycles to choose.
Time to select your motorcycle.

Clumsy controls.

I despise clumsy controls. Sadly, this is exactly what you get when you play this title! The poorly ported inputs are woeful when using a controller and this makes it unnecessarily frustrating. Additionally, the slow-to-react cursor is mind-numbingly awful and this just compounds the issues. Alongside this, the UI is clunky to use and it was tough to see what tab or item was highlighted. Accordingly, the developers should have done much better.

If you can accept this shortcoming, then you’ll enjoy oodles of replay value and longevity. Between upgrading your character, searching for parts, and repairing every bike, you’ll have no time to spare. As such, this will keep you busy while teaching you the ins and outs of bike maintenance.

Motorcycle Mechanic Simulator 2021 impressed me.

Though Motorcycle Mechanic Simulator 2021 had some rough elements, it impressed me throughout. The attention to detail and layers of depth entertain you from the off. Furthermore, the ability to play this with limited mechanical knowledge was fantastic. However, the poor sound effects, lacklustre open-world elements and woeful controls hold it back. Yet, despite these shortcomings, I recommend that you buy it here! Can you become a much-loved mechanic? Expand your skills, buy a new property, and repair every bike you encounter.

Seven of the best gambling movies ever made

0

If you have a budding interest in the world of high-stakes casinos, you aren’t alone! Interest in casinos, both in-person and online, has been steadily growing in Canada over the past few years. If you’d like to see what all the fuss is about, gambling movies might be a great introductory step. We’ve compiled some of the most popular casino games films of all time to whet your appetite for fictional high-stakes bets.

What makes a casino movie great?

Before we dive into the best gambling movies of all time, let’s take a quick look at the elements of a great casino movie. Firstly, the stakes need to be high! Whether that translates to a lot of money, risky deals, special events or relationships put on the line, the best gambling movies involve more than casino games alone. A little bit of humour can make or break films too, with movies like the infamous “Ocean’s” trilogy peppering action with quips and dark humour to lighten the mood a bit. This isn’t required, of course, but we think it’s an excellent addition to gambling movies that really takes them to the next level. Finally, the best casino movies feature dynamic and compelling characters portrayed by talented actors.

With that out of the way, let’s take a closer look at the seven best gambling movies of all time!

Casino (1995)

Released in 1995, “Casino” is a heart-pounding title featuring Robert De Niro, Sharon Stone and Joe Pesci. It follows Ace (De Niro) as he tries to make it big in the gambling world while working as a mafia enforcer in Las Vegas. From his marriage to the eventual unraveling of his relationship as well as his standing within the Las Vegas casino industry, the film is a seedy and sordid tale that draws viewers in from the first minute to the last.

If you’re looking for a casino movie filled with mafia intrigue, Casino might be a great choice.

Intacto (2001)

A Spanish thriller with a lot of heart and impeccable cinematography, “Intacto” is a 2001 release that found a dedicated global audience. The film follows Samuel Berg (Max von Sydow), a concentration camp survivor, and Federico (Eusebio Poncela), a man capable of stealing luck with the mere touch of his hand, as they compete in a series of escalating games of chance designed to eliminate the unlucky and amas a vast fortune.

Intacto is an interesting title that pits casino experts against magic. If you’re looking for a film that is a little bit more fanciful, but no less hard-hitting, than other casino titles, you might enjoy this movie quite a bit.

Croupier (1998)

A British neo-noir thriller and crime drama, “Croupier” stars Clive Owen as Jack Manfred, an aspiring writer struggling to make a name for himself. He ultimately takes a job at a local casino as a croupier to make ends meet while focusing on his writing. Quickly drawn into the casino scene, Jack faces a number of increasingly significant losses ranging from his morals to his partner before finally publishing an anonymous bestseller about his experiences.

Croupier is a film with many unexpected twists and turns, including multiple love interests and increasingly high stakes. It’s a great movie for someone looking for a non-stop ride from start to finish.

Ocean’s 11 (2001)

What article about the best casino movies ever made would be complete without some of the most notable “Ocean’s” films? The first title on our list is “Oceans 11”, a remake of the 1960s film of the same name. The movie follows friends Danny (George Clooney) and Rusty (Brad Pitt) as they attempt to pull off a $160m heist. The film was an immediate box-office hit as the fifth highest grossing film released in 2001.

Ocean’s 11 is surprisingly funny and lighthearted, making it a good option for viewers who want to have a good time while immersing themselves in the drama of high-stakes gambling.

Ocean’s 13 (2007)

Ocean’s 13 is the second sequel to Ocean’s 11 and features both Clooney and Pitt reprising their roles from the first film. This time, the goal is to ruin the opening night of a hotel built by a rival businessman while simultaneously rigging his popular casino games to constantly pay out millions, hopefully costing him control of the casino and the hotel at the same time. Featuring an increasingly complex storyline and polished performances, Ocean’s 13 is a worthy successor to its namesake.

If you loved Ocean’s 11 for its humour and high stakes, you are likely to find Ocean’s 13 just as enjoyable.

Ocean’s 12 (2004)

Released in 2004 as the first sequel to Ocean’s 11, “Ocean’s 12” features a similarly lighthearted take on big stakes casino drama. Clooney and Pitt return alongside Matt Damon, Andy Garcia and Catherine Zeta-Jones in a truly star-studded cast. The film follows the crew as they deal with the fallout of the heist from the first film in the trilogy. Predictably, things immediately take a turn toward the criminal as they seek to steal even more money to pay back their debt.

Ocean’s 12 takes the Ocean’s 11 formula and refines it, resulting in a well-deserved success for the cast and yet another must-see film for casino buffs.

Ocean’s 11 (1960)

The last film on our list is the first film in the Ocean’s franchise. Released in 1960, the original “Ocean’s 11” film features the well-known Rat Pack, including Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Joey Bishop and Peter Lawford. The movie follows the Rat Pack as they commit a series of casino robberies in illustrious Las Vegas. While lacking some of the humour of its more recent namesake, it is full of heart-pounding action and breathless ups and downs.

While not the most popular of the Ocean’s films, Ocean’s 11 (1960) remains a gem for viewers interested in classic American cinema.

Which title on our list is the best gambling movie ever made in your opinion? Pop some popcorn and settle in for a movie night and let us know what you think!

Godzilla Minus One: “This is What a Godzilla Movie Should be,” Says Hollywood Godzilla Director

1

For many Western cinema-holics, there’s one name standing tall as the grand attraction of December: Napoleon. Directed by Ridley Scott, the historical epic following the rise of the infamous French Emperor looks to be a grand example of moviemaking in every regard.

So, perhaps it’s odd that, to finish off 2023, it’s also recommended that you go to see a great big CGI reptile terrorise Japan. Yet, Godzilla Minus One – the sequel to 2016’s Shin Godzilla – should be up there as one of the best films of the year, perhaps even close to the same level as Napoleon.

Of course, the kaiju is a pop-culture icon, having featured in 36 films since the mid-50s, so a Godzilla movie always has appeal at the global box office. Now, though, on an objective level of filmmaking quality, Godzilla Minus One looks to be one of the best ever created.

Godzilla Minus One is getting a lot of praise

The latest in a very long line of Godzilla productions from Japanese studio Toho, but only second in the Reiwa era of the franchise, expectations were high in Japan but relatively muted beyond for Godzilla Minus One. Shin Godzilla became the highest-grossing Godzilla film from Japan, won seven Japan Academy Prizes, and hit $78 million worldwide, but it did receive more tepid reviews from Western critics, getting a 67 score on Metacritic.

With only a handful of critic reviews before its cinematic release, Godzilla Minus One got scores in the 90s and 80s, with it being praised for the angle of the story, the quality of the characters, the exciting kaiju scenes, and its throwback nature. Some of the highest praise has come from Gareth Edwards. The director of Hollywood’s 2014 reboot of Godzilla saw the new movie and said, “This is what a Godzilla movie should be,” per Business Insider.

Throw in how good the trailers look as well as the better user score on Metacritic to the critic score, and Godzilla Minus One has the depiction of a top-class film despite giant monster flicks often being looked down upon in Western markets.

It’s impossible to resist the might of Godzilla

Godzilla and other kaiju movies get a bad rap among Western audiences, and especially among critics. Yet, we can’t resist piling into theatres or streaming the epic monster clashes. The official trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong above, for example, amassed 105 million views on YouTube.

Being the fourth instalment of the series, people knew what to expect, and yet, in North America, it still made over $100 million. However, that marked a huge downturn from the $200 million of the 2014 Godzilla – the most successful at the worldwide box office to date at $529 million. Godzilla’s influence goes far, far beyond the big screen, too.

Across the media space, Godzilla is often referenced or is the main feature of a creation. It’s essentially the brand of kaiju, just as Jurassic Park has made itself the brand of dinosaurs. It’s why you can go to the top platforms at BonusFinder Canada, grab a bonus from a 5/5 site, and spin the reels of Zillard King. The slot certainly doesn’t hide its inspirations, but games like this and licensed movie slots have helped the site become so well-reviewed.

Still, when it comes to Western creations, while the movies make a lot at the box office, and Zillard King has certainly won over slot gamers, most media from beyond Japan is lacklustre at best. Sure, it’s entertaining to see one big CGI monster throw another into a building, but it’ll always be the character stories that immortalise movies. The latest Hollywood flicks greatly lacked this aspect, but Godzilla Minus One seems to have hit the nail on the head.

The latest, and perhaps even the greatest, instalment of the Godzilla story is set to start its North American run on 1 December, with other regions to follow.

A poor microphone quickly loses you gaming buddies. No one likes crackling, popping, or echoing communication. As such, when this happens, it drives you insane. Thankfully, the Panasonic SoundSlayer Wireless delivers crystal clear voice pick-up. The 2 in-built microphones are powered by AI processing from Intelligo Technology Inc. Therefore, this device isolates your voice from the game audio. As a result, your friends will hear 100% of your voice and nothing else.

Build quality.

Panasonic is renowned for high-quality products. As such, it didn’t surprise me that this device looks and feels great. The in-built LEDs ensure that users know the battery capacity without the risk of overcharging the item. Moreover, the unusual design reduces pressure on your ears and head whilst being a godsend to users who wear glasses.

On top of this, the exceptional placement of the speakers and the ergonomic design allow you to enjoy perfect audio at all times. Subsequently, if you want exceptional surround sound quality without mess or stress, then this is the device to buy.

Is the Panasonic SoundSlayer Wireless worth it?

This hybrid device will not appeal to a vast audience. Niche products receive a cult-like following and though it is understandable, it would be a shame to miss out on something so good. Every element of the Panasonic SoundSlayer Wireless impressed me. Whether it was the mind-blowing audio, the simple-to-use features, or the incredible preset profiles, I was amazed. Review: Bluey: The Videogame

My video review with footage captured using my Xbox Series X.

Bluey: The Videogame is a long-awaited title. This much-loved TV series is adored by children and adults alike. Consequently, when the video game was announced, there was excitement brewing no matter your age. However, I wondered how such a punchy and witty cartoon would traverse the gaming threshold. Well, the developers have done a great job with their concise level design, speedy chapters, and easy-to-follow gameplay.

This action-adventure title was developed by Artax Games and published by Outright Games. Moreover, this colourful endeavour is full of collectables, easy-to-understand quests, and many much-loved characters. Accordingly, this will appeal to younger gamers and adults alike.

The family are searching for items.
Can you find the item?

Bluey: The Videogame hits the right notes.

Bluey: The Videogame doesn’t impress you with a deep and fulfilling story. Instead, it focuses on bite-sized chapters that are loaded with familiar moments from the adored TV series. Furthermore, the witty one-liners and comfortable settings will appeal to fans of the franchise.

On top of this, the simple-to-follow story ensures that you don’t become bored or overloaded by complex lore. Instead, you’ll enjoy a mindless endeavour that is filled with amusing moments, collectables, and basic mechanics.

Bluey and Bingo are about to undertake an exciting adventure. Their holiday has just begun, but unbeknownst to them, they are going to experience a fun-filled journey. The young pair play with their family whilst searching for collectables and piecing together a treasure map. This experience comprises a trip to the park with Muffin, an annoying encounter with Chattermax, and a relaxing trip to the creek. As such, though it doesn’t have loads of depth, it scratches that Bluey itch.

Why, oh why did he get you a new Chattermax?
Oh no, not Chattermax!

Basic quests and plenty of freedom.

Bluey: The Videogame is split into 2 distinct approaches. First, the story takes priority. Whenever you progress the plot, you must undertake plenty of basic tasks. Additionally, you’ll witness smooth and hilarious cutscenes. However, once you finish each episode, you are free to explore as much as you like.

This is where the majority of the gameplay unfolds. As you traverse each location, you must find collectables and stickers. On top of this, there is a newspaper to find and a bug to collect. Moreover, you must locate a hockey stick and a delicious cake. Yet, to make matters harder, there are 3 of each of these items in every location. Accordingly, your kids will be kept busy with this collectathon title.

Bluey: The Videogame looks fantastic.

Visually, Bluey: The Videogame didn’t disappoint. The colourful characters and vivid landscapes reminded me of the TV series. Alongside this, the cutscenes were great and the roster of beloved protagonists will not disappoint. However, there were some glitches and bugs that undermined the end product. Furthermore, it was occasionally tough to navigate tight spaces and this caused unnecessary frustrations.

Where this excels, however, is the audio. The wholesome soundtrack captures the emotion of each chapter. Alongside this, the voice acting was perfect and the sound effects were simple but impressive. Consequently, the developers have done a great job with this game.

Time to take a trip to the beach.
Take a trip to the beach.

Simple controls.

This child-friendly title was easy to play. Thanks to the simple controls and clean UI, younger gamers will love every minute. Moreover, limited guidance is necessary once your munchkins understand the fundamentals. As such, you can let them play this without concern as each concise area is easy to navigate.

Where this is lacking is replay value. Though there are plenty of collectables to find and you are free to play any of the unlocked games to your heart’s content, these things don’t entertain you forever. As such, once everything has been located, there will be limited reason to return. Thankfully, though, you can play this cooperatively if you so wish, and this enhances longevity somewhat.

Bluey: The Videogame didn’t disappoint.

My kids adored this and I loved it even more. Thankfully, Bluey: The Videogame didn’t disappoint. However, its niche gameplay will appeal to a limited audience. Yet if you cherish the franchise and love gaming with your kids, then this is a no-brainer. Accordingly, I enjoyed it and I recommend that you buy it here! Can you find the treasure and enjoy your holiday? Find the collectables, complete every quest, and discover every secret.

Review: X2 Recliner

0

The X2 Recliner from FlexiSpot combines elegance and comfort. Furthermore, this plush chair is well-built and great to look at. Accordingly, this is the perfect addition to any living room or snug. Alternatively, maybe you have a quiet location in your office that needs something super relaxing. Either way, this chair is the ideal choice.

Built from high-quality materials, the X2 Recliner cradles your body in all the right places. Moreover, the smooth motors and easy-to-use controls ensure that it is child’s play to find a comfortable position. Alongside this, if you fancy a nap in your new chair, you can. Thanks to the reclining back, you can sleep the afternoon away.

What’s in the box of the X2 Recliner?

  • The chair is delivered in 2 large and heavy boxes. As such, be careful when you lift them.
  • The X2 Recliner comes in 4 parts. Each element is easy to handle and constructing this product is straightforward.
  • Power this furniture with the power cable and transformer.
  • Learn how to build this with the user guide.

Technical aspects.

Finding a chair that is ideal for small spaces is a pain. However, the X2 Recliner seamlessly fits into many tight spaces. Moreover, its near-silent motors ensure that you can use it no matter the time of day. Alongside this, full-range movement with leg and back support ensures that your comfort is always at the fore.

Adjusting this product was incredibly easy to achieve. With two metallic buttons to press, the chair is straightforward to operate. Furthermore, extending the moveable parts takes no time at all. Thanks to the powerful motors, the chair can be adjusted in the blink of an eye. Additionally, a handy USB-A port allows you to charge your mobile phone or tablet without trailing cables or tripping hazards.

Constructing the chair.

Putting this together wasn’t a complex task. Moreover, you can build it as a solo project if you so wish. However, to make things easier, I’d suggest asking a loved one or friend to help you out. If you want to tackle this alone, I recommend using the packaging to prevent any damage to the material.

Following the step-by-step guide was a cinch because of the handy images. Yet, I’d suggest a reasonably sized room to construct the chair as it’ll make things go a lot easier. Additionally, don’t worry if DIY isn’t your thing as limited talent or skills are required to complete this project. All told I believe it took me around 20 minutes from start to finish.

Build quality.

Though the smooth motor and reclining action impressed me, the build quality is where the X2 Recliner excels. Available in either white or orange, this chair can suit any environment. Furthermore, thanks to the waterproof and scratch-resistant technical fabric, scuffs and marks are kept to a minimum.

This product combines an iron frame with wood-structured oversized armrests for endurance and utmost comfort. Furthermore, it has a large seat depth to support your body without the feeling of claustrophobia or being trapped. Additionally, the USB port and metal switches are well-placed to increase usability.

However, the piece de resistance has to be the faux leather material and the high-quality padding. First, the material is easy to maintain and looks easy to the eye. The clean finish delivers a sophisticated and elegant appearance that will impress you from the off. What’s more, the padding will not sag and this helps the chair to retain its shape and full body support.

Is the X2 Recliner worth it?

Elegance and usability are rarely combined. Consequently, the X2 Recliner does an amazing job of breaking the mould. This plush chair seamlessly blends into any environment. What’s more, it is straightforward to use and built to last. Accordingly, if you need a comfortable and supportive chair that looks amazing, then I recommend that you buy it here!

EGX 2023 – Hands-On With The Spirit of the Samurai

0

The joy of events like EGX is discovering something new. While there were plenty of fantastic indie games to enjoy, the one that really stood out for me was The Spirit of the Samurai. This debut comes from an animation studio, Digital Mind Games; you can tell they have put so much expertise and love into every aspect.

The Spirit of the Samurai is a 2D action-adventure game with Metroidvania and Soulslike elements woven in. Set in feudal Japan, you play as one of three distinct characters (a warrior cat, a samurai, and a tree spirit) to fight your way through hordes of monsters steeped in Japanese folklore to save the world around you. With experience, you can improve skills, master different moves, and customise combos that work for your playstyle using the in-game combo maker. Each character allows you to explore and interact with the world in different ways, whether it’s more platforming and exploration or straight-up combat.

For the demo, you play as the samurai and get to experience some of that incredible combat. Pushing one of the directional joysticks with a unique control system performs combat moves. This makes it very easy to chain with button combos and parry and fight monsters coming at you from multiple directions. The combat was challenging, fast, and felt incredible. I’m looking forward to the game’s launch and being able to experience it in its full state. Be prepared to die a lot!

Visually, this game is a masterpiece. You can see the developer’s animation and visual storytelling prowess, Digital Mind. It has a stop-motion style about it and gives off Kurosawa movie vibes with the way it presents itself visually. It’s simply stunning. Movement is fluid, and the monsters feel unique in the way they move and attack you. The visual style translates to the world around you with incredible detail and atmosphere.

The Spirit of the Samurai releases on PC in 2024, and I, for one, cannot wait. For more information, head to their website.

EGX 2023 – Hands-On With Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

0

The Like a Dragon (formerly Yakuza) franchise is expanding with the newest title, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Set to release in January 2024. I was lucky enough to get hands-on with the demo of the upcoming mainline title at EGX 2023.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth picks up after Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name (and in fact, this game is teased during the story, and a demo is provided). It’s a direct sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon. In this action RPG, you play as Ichiban Kasuga (the protagonist from Yakuza: Like a Dragon), Kazuma Kiryu (the franchise’s original protagonist), and several new and old allies to form a team.

The plot centres around Kasuga searching for his biological mother while Kiryu is trying to find the same person for the Daidoji faction and protect her from various antagonists.

For the first time, the game takes place internationally in Hawaii as well as familiar locations in Japan. The demo took place in Hawaii, and it was refreshing to explore a new location. Hawaii was beautifully rendered and represented. As with all Like a Dragon games, mini-games and side activities are aplenty. You can spend a lot of time exploring and getting sidetracked. At one point, I ended up on a tram talking to a guy about photography, taking photos of people in the street. In addition to the usual, like karaoke and Mahjong, there are also mini-games inspired by other Sega franchises. A delivery mini-game inspired by Crazy Taxi, for example. There is also supposed to be a whole resort management side-game with crafting and resource gathering. However, I didn’t come across this during the demo.

Combat in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is turn-based for all characters in your party. You can pick and chain moves. One of my favourite aspects of this combat system is how characters can partner up for outlandish and extravagant combo moves together. Each character can choose from a selection of roles, which can determine playstyle and provide unique perks. For example, Kiryu can briefly break from turn-based combat and engage in open combat using the familiar brawling style.

The demo had plenty of opportunity to test out the combat, and it worked smoothly. and was fun to test out different moves and styles.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth releases on 26 January 2024 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X and PC. For more information, head to their website.

EGX 2023 – Hands-On With Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name

0

It’s been around a year since I got hands-on with the latest in the Yakuza series, renamed ‘Like a Dragon’, and now Sega is back with two new titles. The first, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, is a spin-off from the main franchise and takes place during the events of Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Featuring none other than the Dragon of Dojima himself, Kazuma Kiryu, you embark on a new story under the guise of being a secret agent.

Like a Dragon Gaiden plays much like other games in the series and reminds me of Ishin! with the free combat style and open-world exploration. It takes place in several areas: a district in Osaka, a district in Yokohama and a hub known as The Castle. In the demo, only The Castle was available, but there was plenty to fill the demo time as there were loads of mini-games and fights to enjoy.

Mini-games are as incredible as you would expect, ranging from poker and karaoke to old-school Sega titles. In addition, you can also get plenty of side-quests to really increase the depth of playability. I spent a large amount of time exploring this hub and checking out all the fun little extra things you can do, and it’s honestly one of my favourite things about the Like a Dragon games.

Of course, no Like a Dragon game is complete without some impressive combat, and Like a Dragon Gaiden doesn’t disappoint here, either. There are two styles to pick from, Secret Agent and Yakuza, and both are incredibly fun. Yakuza will feel very familiar to players, being a heavier brawler combat style, reminiscent of Kiryu’s fighting style in previous games. On the other hand, Secret Agent is totally new and possibly my favourite combat style in a game of this type. It’s fast and a joy to watch on the screen. As you may imagine, this style is full of gadgets that help you, and it’s very satisfying to use the electrified bind wires to stun and send foes flying. You can also switch up your style to best suit the circumstances.

The story promises to be a fully fleshed-out, high-octane adventure of espionage and survival.

Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name was released on November 9 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X and PC. A full review will be coming soon. For more information, head to their website.
