Configuring 5big NAS Pro: Basic Wuala

The 5big NAS Pro comes with a bundled 90-day trial of Wuala Business, which gives you 100GB of space and allows for five users.  I am not showing you that today as I plan a future post strictly on Wuala Business; today, I’ll show you the basic Wuala setup.

To use Wuala, you need to have an account set up.  I set one up last summer to use with the 5big Office+ unit, and really like it.  If you are using this unit in a business, consider provisioning Wuala accounts using your business email account and setting a password that is known to your administrator to prevent loss of company information to a personal cloud account.  Here, I used my own personal Wuala account.  Make sure that the main Wuala account that you use here is used as an admin account if using this in a business environment; all future Wuala-connected NAS units will use it to connect with Wuala.

If you don’t have a Wuala account, download the software here and sign up!  You’ll get 5GB of free space in the cloud.  Once you have a Wuala account, sign in on the PC where you installed the app.

Here’s the dashboard once I log into my Wuala personal account.

You need to add the 5big NAS Pro to your Wuala account. Click on Add and then choose Device. Wuala looks around for a new device to add. Once it finds the NAS, you’ll see it listed under Devices like this:

Click on the icon at the bottom left of the screen under Devices and then click on the bar that reads Add This Device to Wuala.
