The DXP4800 GT comes in a refined space grey aluminium body with a subtle gold trim, giving it a much more premium look than you might expect from a NAS in this price range. Round the back you’ll find a magnetic dust mesh filter that keeps hair and dust out of the internals, and the hydraulic fan keeps things impressively quiet, running at just 29-34dB even under load.
The drive bays are tool-less and easy to access from the front, making it simple to add or swap drives without reaching for a screwdriver every time. Round the back you get the two 10GbE ports, additional USB ports, and an HDMI output capable of 4K, which is handy if you want to hook the NAS straight up to a TV.
The DXP4800 GT feels like a genuine step up from earlier DXP models, and that starts with the processor. The AMD Ryzen Embedded R2514 handles everyday NAS duties without any fuss, but it’s when you start layering on Docker containers, virtual machines and background tasks that you really notice how much smoother everything runs.
Networking is where this NAS really shows off. With two 10GbE ports and link aggregation, you get up to four times the throughput of a standard 2.5GbE setup, and that translates into editing 4K and 8K footage straight off the NAS without the stutter and lag you’d normally expect over a network connection.
Storage-wise, you’re looking at up to 144TB across the four SATA bays, and the two NVMe M.2 slots (which also support U.2 SSDs) let you set up smart tiered storage, keeping active projects on fast SSD caching while archiving everything else to the HDDs. 8GB of DDR4 RAM comes as standard, and it’s expandable up to 64GB if you plan on running heavier workloads.
UGOS Pro is where the DXP4800 GT really earns its keep day to day. Between the AI photo album, the built-in Surveillance Center for managing IP cameras, SAN Manager for turning the NAS into network storage that behaves like a local drive, and free remote access through UGREENlink, there’s very little you would need a subscription service for once this is set up.
Setup itself is refreshingly quick too. Everything is ready out of the box, drive installation is genuinely tool-less, and the guided software setup gets you up and running via a quick scan in a matter of minutes rather than hours.
If you’ve been paying for cloud storage, photo backup and a password manager separately and you’re tired of the recurring costs, the DXP4800 GT is a serious one-time alternative. It’s quiet, well built, fast over the network, and the software ecosystem is mature enough that it doesn’t feel like a compromise compared to the cloud services it’s replacing.
