Firecore Updates Seas0nPass Jailbreak Tools Package for AppleTV Users

0

Firecore have just updated its Seas0nPass jailbreak tools package for AppleTV to version 0.7.7. This update brings support for Lion and a number of bugfixes.

Seas0nPass was created exclusively for the AppleTV user, as previously no AppleTV specific jailbreak tools were available. Seas0nPass allows you to easily create custom AppleTV IPSW files and restore them in iTunes (similar to the existing Pwnage Tool app). Also included is a simple ‘tethered boot’ option which aids in using newer AppleTV firmwares when an ‘un-tethered’ jailbreak is not yet available.

Here is the information on Seas0nPass:

What can I do with Seas0nPass?

  • Jailbreak the AppleTV with the latest 4.2.2 (iOS 4.3) software.
  • Easily perform a ‘tethered boot’ (when necessary).

What is the difference between a ‘tethered’ and ‘un-tethered’ jailbreak?

A tethered jailbreak requires the AppleTV to be connected to a computer for a brief moment during startup. An un-tethered jailbreak removes this restriction. Un-tethered jailbreaks are are a bit more complex and take more time to complete.

How much does Seas0nPass cost?

Seas0nPass is available as a free download – no strings attached.

What are the minimum requirements?

Mac: OSX 10.6 or later

Windows: XP or later

Can I use this on my iPhone, iPad, or other iOS device?

Nope. Seas0nPass is designed exclusively for the 2nd gen AppleTV.

Sounds great! Where can I download it?

The Seas0nPass app, and user guides can be found at Seas0nPass.com

Firecore provide a really useful guide on their website. Have you tried Sea0nPass yet?

Read Books on your HP TouchPad with the Kindle Beta

If you have an HP TouchPad and you want to use it to read books, then you should get the Kindle beta and get access to more than 950,000 titles from the Amazon Kindle Store.

touchpad-ov1

Unfortunately this is only available to US TouchPad owners at present.

Here is what HP said:

The Kindle Beta for webOS app is now available for the HP TouchPad. Your TouchPad now has access to more than 950,000 titles from Amazon’s Kindle Store, as well as thousands of the most popular classic public domain titles. Paid titles offer free downloadable samples, and Amazon’s Whispersync technology automatically syncs your reading progress with other devices (like your laptop computer) where you might also use your Kindle account. (And if you add any notes, highlights, or bookmarks while you read, Whispersync also keeps those updated on your other Kindle platforms, and vice-versa.)

Buy Windows Home Server 2011 from Newegg for $49.99!

Recently we told you that the price of WHS 2011 had been reduced. Well today Newegg have got in on the action and have WHS 2011 for $49.99 with a $10 off promo code.

newegg

Buy WHS 2011 from Newegg today

So what do you think of this price reduction? As I said on the Digital Lifestyle Show podcast last week I am in two minds. On the one hand it’s create for people buying WHS from a system builder and building their own, but on the other hand, this isn’t the market that Microsoft made the product for, and frankly this worries me as we still don’t have a major player in the WHS hardware market!

“mobostick™” by HSTi. Android’s answer to Apple’s Airplay™ but without the limitations
The perfect companion for Android Smartphones and Tablets

July 15, 2011, Calgary, Canada – HSTi launched today “mobostick™”, Android world’s answer to Apple’s Airplay™. “mobostick™” turns Android Smartphones and Tablets to wireless, secure, portable, media and file sharing devices. The perfect accessory for Android Smartphones and Tablets.

“mobostick™” wirelessly shares files from an Android Smartphone and Tablet to any device with a USB port. With the addition of the Mobostick™ (http://www.mobostick.com) Android devices owners can turn their devices into portable wireless media and file servers. They can copy files to a computer or laptop, backup important information, stream music files to a stereo, beam videos uploaded or created by the device to a TV, display a photo slideshow through a game console or any media player, print a photo at a USB equipped printer, or run a presentation on a projector, at home, at the office, in the car, at a friend’s place, at the local café. Wirelessly!

Android Tablet users who create documents, now have a portable sharing solution in the “mobostick™” which does not depend on cords or drivers nor is dependent on manufacturer-specific proprietary environments.

Apple’s Airplay™ and DLNA apps depend on stationary technologies like home networks and Wi-Fi enabled devices to operate, and are limited to media sharing only. “mobostick™”, is a self-contained solution, manufacturer-independent, sharing any file, anywhere! All that is required is one of the billions of playback devices equipped with a USB port.

Based on customer feedback, an accessory as portable as a Smartphone and Tablet emerged as a preferred one by many of HSTI’s customers. Unlike the Apple Airplay™ proprietary environment restrictions and hardware dependence, the “mobostick™” provides connectivity for most manufacturers’ Android Smartphones and Tablets and with an added advantage: Anywhere, on the go, and in manufacturer-agnostic environments! Be it a Xoom™ or Galaxy tab™, Desire HD™, Iconia™, eee pad™, NEXUS™, ARC™ or Xperia™ among others, the “mobostick™” offers the wireless connectivity many Android users were looking for.

“mobostick™” is utilizing the Android device’s built-in Access Point / Hotspot, while the free mobostick App governs the file sharing. It shares wirelessly the media content in the background, and allows the user to simultaneously use the Smartphone or Tablet in any of its other purposes, without any interruption.

Additionally, its battery footprint while sharing is minimal. Files are not copied or moved from the device and it is totally secure The award-winning proprietary technology of HSTi gained notoriety at the Consumer Electronics Show 2011 in Las Vegas as a unique media server for Android Tablets and Smartphones, and has other mobile devices on the road map. The ever-expanding Android Smartphone and Tablet markets needed an Accessory like the “mobostick™”. It proved compatible with virtually any playback device with a USB port,
like a TV, PS3™, Xbox™, DVD/Blu-ray™ player, WD TV™, O!Play, Google TV™, stereo and even a photo frame.

“Android devices are dominating the mobility market today. Smartphones and Tablets do a great job consolidating one’s life into one device, we now edit and create work files, direct our own family movies, document our lives, but when it comes to sharing media or work files from an Android device, options are limited,” said Harry Diamantopoulos, HSTi’s Managing Director and Co-founder. “The “mobostick™” combined with an Android Smartphone or Tablet makes it easy for people to share their creations, with friends, family, colleagues, whoever. Plenty of Apps on the Android platform offer DLNA / UPNP compatibility between a phone or tablet and a media player. These Apps depend on technologies like home
networks and Wireless enabled media players to work. How portable is a solution that depends on hardware you just left back in your home? How practical is it to take your TV and router wherever you go?

And let’s face it, if we were interested in wires we wouldn’t own mobile phones. “mobostick™” is the perfect accessory for your Android devices and provides the portability, compatibility and security desired by today’s demanding consumer”, he emphasized.

The “mobostick™” is expected to be on major Retailers and E-tailers shelves, just in time for the “Back to School” period and is readily available from HSTi’s web-site at http://hsti.com/shop

Digital Lifestyle Show – My Movies Q&A Coming This Week

2

I love My Movies. I’ve posted about it here at UWHS, and I’ve talked about it a lot on the Digital Lifestyle Show podcast with Ian Dixon. We are getting Brian and Rasmus on the show next week and we want your questions!

Check out our review of My Movies for Windows Home Server 2011 PR7

Dashboard-with-My-Movies-installed_t

This is what Ian has posted:

On Tuesday at 8pm UK time we will be recording a special edition of the The Digital Lifestyle Show with Brian Binnerup and Rasmus Johansen from My Movies. We will be talking about the newly released version 4 of My Movies and taking about the next version of the application. We had lots of questions and feature suggestions sent in so we will put them to Brian and Rasmus and we will be streaming the recording live on our TDL Live page.

You can also submit your questions to us.

I’m looking forward to talking to them both on the show next week. And why not join in with us live – it certainly adds to the excitement!

Introducing the Hauppauge WinTV-DCR-2650 Dual Tuner Digital Cable Card Receiver

Earlier this week, Hauppauge announced their forthcoming WinTV-DCR-2650 dual tuner digital cable card receiver on their Facebook page.

263584_249904725036580_188024431224610_1092745_6571748_n281566_249905651703154_188024431224610_1092747_6646075_n

Here is what they said (and it isn’t much):

It’s like having a cable TV set top box for your PC! Only $129.- for the dual tuner USB model. Here’s the rear view showing where you plug in the cable card.

The WinTV-DCR-2650 is a collaboration between Hauppauge and Silicon Dust.

Well for $129 it seems like a no-brainer to me, and that is significantly cheaper than both the Ceton InfiniTV 4 card and the Silicon Dust HDHomeRun Prime.

There is nothing yet on Hauppauge’s website, but I expect that to change shortly.

What do you do think – interested?

Magic Wake on LAN Updated to Version 1.2.715.1

Magic Wake On LAN, an add-in that adds wake on lan capabilities to your home server and network, was updated to version 1.2.715.1. Read on for details!

settings-mainwakeup-timersweb-interface

Back in December, we told us about the initial release of this add-in. Here is what we said about the add-in back then:

Magic WOL is a clientless WOL solution for WHS V1. Utilizing the latest AJAX technology for seamless website interaction, Magic WOL is the easiest solution for waking up computers for RDP. Not only is it accessible from the WHS console and the remote website, but it easily allows you to manage devices in your network that are not connected to WHS.

Features:
*Clientless integration, only need server installation.
*IP Helpers and ARP finders that keep your PCs info accurate when WHS doesn’t.
*Edit, Delete, and Add new computers to the add-in.
*Automatic Updates for all future releases.

On Thursday we told you about an update, and now there is another one.

Magic WOL Version 1.2.715.1 is the first version with computer scheduling, which allows you to configure computers both inside and outside of WHS client pool to wake up at a specified time, daily or one time only.  This release also includes the updates and patches from the recent maintenance release (version 1.1).

This add-in costs $7 and comes with a 30 day trial for evaluation purposes. Jim uses this add-in frequently to wake his home desktop from the office and the road, and if you are looking for a WOL solution, He recommends it from personal experience. He uses it from his Android phone and his work computer and since it deploys a website for sending the magic packet, it can be used by a multitude of devices.

What are you waiting for? If you haven’t tried this yet for your v1 box, give it a whirl!
