Seagate Hard Drives To Feature SafetyNet Data Recovery Services

Today Seagate have announced that their new GoFlex Turbo Performance Hard Drive will include a recovery plan for the stored data in case something goes wrong!

Here is what Seagate have said:

An Industry First, The New GoFlex® Turbo Performance Drive Includes a Recovery Plan for Your Data

CUPERTINO, Calif. – August 8, 2011 – Seagate (NASDAQ: STX), today unveiled the GoFlex® Turbo performance drive with SafetyNet™ data recovery services (DRS). SafetyNet data recovery is the first recovery service offering by a hard drive manufacturer to be included as part of the purchase price of an external drive. With the latest super speed USB 3.0 interface and RPMs clocked at 7200, the GoFlex Turbo drive is equipped to handle transfer speeds up to 40% faster than that of its USB 2.0, 5400-RPM siblings. This latest addition to the GoFlex family was developed with the understanding that those who place a high value on their data should have the peace of mind that their data is even more secure regardless of what unforeseen incident might occur to the drive. The new GoFlex Turbo performance drive features two-years of SafetyNet data recovery services and is now available from Best Buy for a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $119.99 for 500GBs and $139.99 for 750GBs.*

Seagate® GoFlex® Turbo performance drive with SafetyNet™ data recovery services (DRS).

“With this new GoFlex® Turbo performance drive, it is our aim to provide more peace of mind for the people who choose Seagate to back up and store their valued digital assets,” said Patrick Connolly, vice president and general manager of Seagate’s retail product group. “When our products are used as a backup to a primary system or even as supplemental storage, people should know that they can get a further layer of assurance that their data will be there when they need it.”

“Seagate is now bringing to market a solution that shelters our customers, who purchase the GoFlex® Turbo with SafetyNet™, from the potential thousand-dollar cost of recovering lost files. Seagate is providing a solution that will no longer cost thousands of dollars to recover files. SafetyNet™ DRS provide an extra layer of protection for your content.”

SafetyNet™
SafetyNet Data Recovery Services are included with the new GoFlex Turbo performance drive that provides additional protection in the event of data loss. Many things can contribute to data being inaccessible from a drive and Seagate is now providing a safeguard against mishaps such as: physical damage to the drive, human error and software viruses. The GoFlex Turbo performance drive includes two years of SafetyNet Data Recovery Service, a service which separately often comes with a price tag of hundreds to thousands of dollars. The SafetyNet service covers one recovery attempt on your GoFlex Turbo performance drive within a two-year period. Seagate’s Data Recovery Specialists will determine whether remote or in-lab service is the best way to recover the data.*

* The SafetyNet program provides one data recovery attempt in the first two years after date of original purchase. Not all data may be recoverable. For more information, see SafetyNet program terms and conditions at seagate.com/safetynet. SafetyNet service currently is available only to legal residents of US.

GoFlex® External Hard Drives
First introduced in May of 2010, the family of Seagate® GoFlex® drives and accessories have introduced a new level of flexibility to external storage which has changed the way people store, access, enjoy and share their digital content. The GoFlex storage family includes easy, plug-and-play portable and desktop drives, with an array of interchangeable cables and desktop adapters that allow each drive to adapt to the interface or device being used. Seagate GoFlex Turbo performance drive and the entire family of GoFlex ultra-portable drives are the first to meet the new Universal Storage Module (USM™) specification¹. GoFlex hard disk drives are also specially designed to provide interoperability between operating systems in order to work with both Microsoft® Windows® and Mac® OS X computers.

Hauppauge Launch WinTV Extend for iPad

Hauppauge have just launched a few app for the Apple iPad called WinTV Extend.

mzl_qiusboaw_480x480-75

‘WinTV Extend for iPad’ enables you to stream live TV and recordings from your PC at home to your iPad. This easy to use application lets you watch your favorite TV channels and shows across your home network or the Internet using Wi-Fi.

To use this application, you must have a Hauppauge TV installed on your home PC plus a TV connection. TV connections can be roof top antennas, cable or satellite set top box, or a cable TV connection. The Hauppauge WinTV Extend server application must also be installed on your PC.

Features

– Watch live TV on your iPad
– Watch TV recordings from your PC
– Filtered channel list, by either text search, or by favorites group.
– Adjustable video bitrate and image resolution to suit your network connection
– Supports Analog, ClearQAM, ATSC, DVB-T, DVB-S/S2 and DVB-C channels
– Supports all common digital television codecs including MPEG-2 and H.264 video, and MPEG1, AC3, E-AC3 and HE-AAC audio.
– Supports HD-PVR and Colossus, for high definition capture from set top box receivers.
– Auto fullscreen when the device is rotated to landscape
Supported devices: iPad and iPad 2, running iOS 4.0 or later. For use on iPhone and iPod, see the ‘WinTV Extend for iPhone’ application.

Here is the press release:

London, August 8, 201: Hauppauge Digital, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAUP), the world’s leading developer and manufacturer of TV tuner products for personal computers, has announced the launch of the ‘WinTV Extend for iPad’ application optimised for Apple’s iPad. ‘WinTV Extend for iPad’ allows Hauppauge WinTV Extend customers to use a native iPad application to watch live TV on their iPad, either in the home via Wi-Fi or around the world via Wi-Fi or 3G.

Users of Hauppauge’s ‘WinTV Extend for iPad’ can watch their favourite TV programs on their iPad in the home via their Wi-Fi network, or outside of the home any place their iPad has an Internet connection. For example, a user can be in their kitchen at home watching live TV on their iPad, or they can be in a hotel in another country and watch TV from home as long as they have either a Wi-Fi connection in the hotel or are on a 3G network.

The Hauppauge live TV system has two pieces: a TV transmitter which runs on a home or office PC, and the ‘WinTV Extend for iPad’ TV receiving application which runs on the iPad.

The live TV transmitter can be any one of the popular Hauppauge WinTV TV tuners. These PC-based TV tuners plug into a Windows based PC and connect to a user’s TV source, such as a cable or satellite TV or an over-the-air TV antenna. The WinTV TV tuner uses Hauppauge’s ‘WinTV v7.2’ application, which formats the live TV program into a form which can be watched on an iPad, and then transmits the formatted TV signal to the new Hauppauge ‘WinTV Extend for iPad’ application.

Hauppauge had previously used a Safari browser to receive the live TV signal from the WinTV TV tuner. The new ‘WinTV for iPad’ application delivers enhanced TV watching features such as a better iPad screen format, easier navigation of TV channel lists, landscape and portrait TV watching modes, the ability to play previously recorded TV programs and better network utilization on both 3G and Wi-Fi networks.

The ‘WinTV for iPad’ app is available at no charge from the Apple store. To find the ‘WinTV Extend for iPad’ app, seach for ‘WinTV’ on the Apple store.

In addition to watching live TV, a user who has recorded TV programs onto their PC’s hard disk drive using ‘WinTV v7.2’, can watch those recordings on their iPad. Like live TV, these pre-recorded TV programs can be watched either via a Wi-Fi connection in the house or anywhere the user has an Internet connection.

Orange to go

what you need to know

  • Each code request for the week’s film costs 35p and can only be sent to you up to three times.
  • Remember to redeem the code and download the film on Thursday.
  • You need iTunes 10.0 or later and an iTunes UK account.
  • Film is available for up to 30 days once downloaded.
  • You have 48 hours to complete viewing once the film starts playing.

So I think I will give this a try and see if it is any good. I would prefer to choose my own film rather than have Orange do it for me, but hey, a film for 35p isn’t bad.

It is available from today on the PlayStation 3 games console, and will be adapted for an array of set-top boxes and internet-capable televisions. Step By Step Bare Metal Install of A Windows Home Server 2011

windows-home-server

Introduction

As much as we would like to get it right the first time or even the second or third time this rarely happens even more so when you are working with a new technology. So from all my initial forays into installing Windows Home Server 2011 I have decided pass on what ultimately worked for me in this Step by Step Tutorial of a Bare Metal Install or even a Re-Install of A Windows Home Server 2011 Server. Hopefully this will elevate some of the pain I went through.

Prerequisites Needed…
– Keyboard, Mouse, and Monitor
– PC/Server that meets the Windows Home Server 2011 Minimum requirements
– Windows Home Server 2011 Install DVD & License Key

Disclaimer

The How to information is intended as a guide or helping resource to those who are to do a Bare Metal Install of A Windows Home Server 2011 . There is no 100% guarantee that this will install correctly the 1st time installing your home server Operating System. I assume no responsibility for any consequences of the install and the user will assume the full risk of any adverse effects of a bad installation.

Before Getting Started…

Before going any further please move any important Data off your System Hard Disk onto either another Internal Drive of your home server or another form of Media altogether (External Drive, ROM, etc.…)

(This Next Step is Optional)

Unplug all your internal drives (Along with any external drives) from your Mother Board with the exception of your designated Primary System Drive. If this is a re-install or you just want to insure that the primary drive you have chosen by the WHS 2011 Installer, This will give those of us who are paranoid the feeling of security that the drives with your valuable Data is not accidentally chosen as the primary drive by the WHS 2011 Installer. The likely of this happening is small but just an added step just in case.

Once your Windows Home Server 2011 DVD has been inserted into the DVD ROM and booted into the Setup Screen please do the following…
1) Click on “New Installation”

Install1
2) Look over all the Hard Disks on your server and insure that the Primary System Hard Disk you want is the one chosen (If all the hard disk have been disconnected it should be your only choice).

Install2
3) Check the “I understand that if I click install, all files and folders on my primary hard drive will be deleted” (Even if you still have your other drives still plugged in they should not be effected by the re-install).

4) Click “Install”

5) Now sit back, relax and grab a book and wait approximately the next 30 to 45 minutes while the 1st half of the installation continues. Your Server will automatically reboot itself when ready.
Install3
