Final Thoughts

Turtle Beach worked directly with Respawn to create headset design with all the graphics, so if you are a huge Titanfall fan this is headset for you!

In order to get the headset to work on an Xbox One you need to perform an update to the controller with the adaptor attached. The adaptor has a sticker on it to remind you of this, also there is documentation in the package too – but don’t worry, as soon as your Xbox One detects the adaptor connected it tells you that you need to perform an update (assuming your Xbox One is up to date with the latest update) and you perform this by connecting the controller and adaptor to your Xbox One using the supplied cable. The whole thing takes about a minute and then you are good to go.

The headset will also work on an Xbox 360, mobile devices, PC’s and even PS4’s and PS3’s (although Turtle Beach don’t mention that on the box).

The headset is very solid and felt quite comfortable to wear for long periods of time (although to begin with they felt quite tight), and anyone who has seen how long I have spent playing Titanfall will see that is a long time! The ear cups are made from a breathable mesh so they don’t get all sweaty while you play, and the position of the cups can be altered very easily.

The sound quality is very good– you can hear every shot, and even the sickening sound of your neck being broken when someone sneaks up on you from behind. The is a bass boost option too, but that only works on the Xbox 360 and PC, not on the Xbox One.

The Titanfall Ear Force Atlas Official Gaming Headset is available now for £119.99.

Telltale Games releases first screenshots for Tales from the Borderlands

0

Telltale Games have released some new screenshots for their forthcoming game Tales from the Borderlands.

Tales_FionaDialogue

In the first round of screenshots, players get a closer look at the upcoming series set on Pandora AFTER the events of the critically-acclaimed Borderlands 2 from Gearbox Software and 2K Games.

Tales_Rhys_Loaderbot

Featuring two playable characters, the story is told from two unique perspectives that will alternate as the story progresses. These characters include Rhys, a scheming, low-level data-miner within Hyperion who’s plotting his own grand ambitions; and Fiona, a clever and classic fast-talking con-artist born and raised on Pandora out to pull off the grift of a lifetime.

Tales_Zer0

While they themselves aren’t vault hunters, both Rhys and Fiona will also come across vault hunters such as Zer0 and other characters from the world of Borderlands 2 throughout the series, as all events in Tales from the Borderlands will be part of the official Borderlands story canon.

A Look at the Comics Unmasked: Art and Anarchy in the UK exhibition at the British Library

Comics Unmasked: Art and Anarchy in the UK opened a few days ago, offering the first chance to see the British Library’s extensive comic book collection on display alongside original artwork and scripts loaned from such names asNeil Gaiman, Grant Morrison, Dave Gibbons, China Mieville and Mark Millar.

CDW at Comics Unmasked - 37

From the 1825 Glasgow Looking Glass, thought to be the first ever comic, to Judge Dredd’s helmet from the recent film adaptation of the 2000AD Judge Dredd series, the exhibition traces a long and tumultuous history of the British comic book.

Highlights of the exhibition also include an example of a medieval ‘comic’ from 1470, Apocalypse, a ventriloquist dummy of Ally Sloper, one of the earliest comic strip characters, 70’s underground comics tried at court for obscenity, such as Oz which is accompanied by a previously unheard recording of the Oz trial itself, as well as 21st century material, including original artwork and manuscripts of the likes of Kick-Ass, Sandman and Batman and Robin, and Keaton Henson’s 2012 doll’s house installation, Gloaming, adapted specially for the show.

CDW at Comics Unmasked - 16

Curated by comic creator John Harris Dunning and leading UK expert Paul Gravett, working with Adrian Edwards, the British Library’s Head of Printed Historical Sources, the exhibition displays over 200 exhibits and uses newly commissioned artwork by celebrated comic book artist Dave McKean, the show’s artistic director.

Here are some more highlights of the exhibition – I highly recommend going and seeing everything for yourself.

Win Dragon Age The Masked Empire from Titan Books

1

Dragon Age The Masked Empire is the new Dragon Age novel from Titan Books, and we have 3 copies of the book to give away.

Dragonmasked_1

Empress Celene of Orlais rose to the throne of the most powerful nation in Thedas through wisdom, wit, and ruthless manipulation. Now, the empire she has guided into an age of enlightenment is threatened from within by imminent war between the templars and the mages, even as rebellion stirs among the downtrodden elves To save Orlais, Celene must keep her hold on the throne by any means necessary.

Fighting with the legendary skill of the Orlesian Chevaliers , Grand Duke Gaspard has won countless battles for the empire and the empress But has he fought in vain? As the Circle fails and chaos looms, Gaspard begins to doubt that Celene’s diplomatic approach to the mage problem or the elven uprisings will keep the empire safe. Perhaps it is time for a new leader, one who lives by the tenets of the Chevalier’s Code, to make Orlais strong again.

Briala has been Celene’s handmaid since the two of them were children, subtly using her position to help improve the lives of elves across Orlais. She is Celene’s confidante, spymaster, and lover, but when politics force the empress to choose between the rights of Briala’s people and the Orlesian throne, Briala must in turn decide where her true loyalties lie.
Alliances are forged and promises broken as Celene and Gaspard battle for the throne of Orlais But in the end, the elves who hide in the forests or starve in the alienages may decide the fate of the masked empire.

Review: 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil

Another huge year for football, another year for EA to release its World Cup companion game. Will those who’ve bought FIFA 14, and will most likely buy FIFA 15, get anything out of this edition, or will three FIFA titles in 12 months be a little too much, even for the truly hardcore?

easports2014fifaworldcupbrazil_xbox360_ps3_brazil_vs_mexico_overthebackheader_wm

Whilst initial impressions scream of a re-skinned FIFA 14, mainly due to the still overly convoluted and online focused main menu being daubed in gaudy greens and yellows, it quickly becomes apparent that this is anything but. This is a game that has been specifically engineered and marketed, to appeal to fans of the World Cup, and to those who fancy reliving all the joys and despairs, long after the pubs are closed and the tears of the streets are dry.

In lieu of the countless leagues and teams that comprise a normal FIFA, over 200 national squads take their place. To account for this, certain modes have been altered slightly, along with adding a few new ones. You can still create a player and lead him, eventually, to captain status in your country of choice, yet it works a little differently from the previous titles. Instead of completing challenges and the like to improve stats, your progression will develop depending upon how ‘in form’ you are. Whilst this may sound like a logical solution, it can also frustrate if the AI lets you down and refuses to make any competent decisions, such as passing the ball.

Adding to the roster of available game modes is an interesting, scenario based mode called the Story of Qualifying ,which asks the ‘what if’ questions and tasks you with performing them. You’ll often be losing by a goal with around ten minutes on the clock to turn it around; usually starting with a set piece in your favour too. It can indeed be tense and fun to pull off the incredulous, and considering there are not only several difficulties and side objectives to go for, but that once the tournament actually starts, this mode will extend there too, stretching the possibilities and giving disparate fans something to do whilst Spain walks off with it.

In terms of gameplay, not too much has been altered from FIFA 14, crossing accuracy has been tweaked to help stem the flow of headed goals, yet pace is still too an important stat to focus on. Fortunately, the customisable slider bars make their return once more to help make the single player portion of the game seem a little more realistic, and is often worth making a few minor adjustments here and there. Corners have been spruced up a little too with the addition of being able to tell your teammates to crowd the keeper, make runs to the near/far post and others, making it a little easier to fulfil what you actually want to accomplish. The main downside to the gameplay is that, due to it not being on the PS4 and Xbox One, you’re missing out on the Ignite engine of FIFA 14; unfortunately, the difference is beyond noticeable.

easports2014fifaworldcupbrazil_xbox360_ps3_england_awaykit_walkout_wm

Midfield scrambles seem more infuriating this time around too, as when a teammate loses possession, and you’re playing as one of the lesser ranked nations, unimaginable irritation ensues. Teammates will stand idly by, watching as the ball rolls mere feet from them, whilst an opposition member will gladly race 15 yards to pounce upon a loose ball. Just because they might not be as technically gifted, doesn’t mean they’re incapable of sticking a foot out. It not only diminishes the experience, but often devolves into a farcical state of patiently waiting until the opposition regains possession whilst inanely mashing the pad.

Without FIFA’s flagship Ultimate Team mode, is there anything to keep you playing in the long term? Probably not is the short answer! Whilst there is an online league system where wins will propel you further through the ranks in an attempt to clutch online gold, I can’t see the mode being too overpopulated too long after the World Cup season has finished. Fortunately, due to the intended audience being of a more casual nature, there’s plenty of offline content to suit those rainy Sunday afternoons.

Along with a competent, if not entirely competitive, two button control scheme for those new to the genre, there is also a beginner difficulty setting, helping to ease the uninitiated into the flow of play. More options on the training field wouldn’t go amiss however; it would be nice if you could set up customisable individual scenarios, such as dribbling around actual players that would move to intercept you, instead of the intimidating stationary cones and sticks. Not only would this improve some player’s concepts of the more advanced controls, but also being able to upload them for others to compete with, could be worked in too.

fwc_xbox360_ps3_spain_awaykit_lineup_wm

There have been some nice added touches that can make a surprisingly impactful difference on the player’s experience. Little dashes of immersion such as the camera cutting to a local drinking establishment to witness the fans admiration/desolation when someone scores, despite the perhaps slightly blinkered view of a pub packed with English drinkers… The music, whilst certainly apt and justified, still could benefit from custom soundtracks and a playlist, yet it’s not all about the music though in FIFA World Cup. Radio podcasts have also been added during the World Cup modes, hosts Andy Goldstein and Ian Darke make excellent commentaries and genuinely interesting discussions; also available are ‘The Men in Blazers’ take on proceedings; whilst they can eventually repeat themselves, it’s a feature that I would love to see return or make an appearance in the next full title.

Due to being spoilt with last year’s excellent looking FIFA 14 on the PS4 and Xbox One, it’s inevitable that the graphics on this, the PS3 and Xbox 360 generation hardware, were going to take a hit. For the most part, it looks good, however, there are noticeable frame rate dips in seemingly random places, plus the jagged lines on the centre circle are a little disappointing, along with a general drop in definition across the board. One other minor annoyance, that wouldn’t normally come up if it were not for the short scenario matches, is the game only auto-saving once you reach the end of match screen, not slightly before, making you unable to move the cursor to the retry option for a seemingly interminable amount of time, especially noticeable after your fifth retry!

Whilst it may not be the update most were hoping for, and that it could well have been released as DLC instead, 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil is still a solid entry. Meant more as an accompaniment to the event for casual fans than a full blown release, I can’t help but feel it would have significantly ignited my interest more, had it been on what should be now called the current gen, the PS4 and Xbox One.

On the rear of the router, we have the following ports:

1 x Power input
1 x On/off switch
1 x Wireless on/off switch
2 x USB 2.0 ports
1 x Internet port (RJ45) – For connection to a modem etc.
4 x LAN ports (RJ45)
1 x WPS reset button

Plenty of options here and I really do like the inclusion of the USB ports; it wouldn’t be a premium router without them!  Very handy for quickly attaching a USB hard drive if you want to store files on the go or even better, sharing documents over a network.

All of the Ethernet ports are Gigabit. Both USB ports are 2.0 only, however. TP-LINK has thoughtfully included a wireless on/off switch for folks who like the extra security that comes from shutting wireless completely off when you don’t need it.

The Ac1750 has mountings to enable the end user to attach it to a surface or wall mount, 4 small rubber pads to allow air to vent underneath the router and an information sticker which has information regarding the make, model, serial and even the default information required to log into the network for the first time.  The wireless password is also included by default but it is recommended to change all this information when in use.

Once the hardware is setup (plugged into the modem/antennas attached, it’s time to setup the AC1750 onto the network.  There is a small CD (I downloaded the lastest version just in case on a USB) which comes included to install the software.  It is fast and simple; pretty much with all software that come bundled with products these days.

Starting with connecting it to the network, first you must enter the IP of the router into your chosen browser (192.168.1.1 in this case) and you will be directed to the following page.

status

This page allows you to see all the relevant information regarding the wireless network, such as the 2.4GHz/5GHz settings and information regarding the IP of your network.

To make installation easy, I would recommend using quick setup, which is the next option in the list.  This allows you to quickly set your network up pain free and with ease.  The following screens depict the setup

quick set up

Next we have the guest network screen, this allows you to edit and change the bandwidth for the router including incoming and outgoing.  With the AC1750 being dual band, it has options for both 2.4GHz/5GHz for simultaneous use.

The basic one touch security options of the TP-Link AC1750 which includes firewall, VPN and ALG security so plenty of options for a multitude of users who require different methods of security on their network.

The most fundamental options when setting up a wireless network, especially if you have kids, is the parental control feature.  This is included and it allows you enable or disable as well as ban certain websites/IP addresses.

Now on to the time settings, this allows you to set the router in whichever time zone you wish, so if you decide to go abroad but want to take your router with you (not sure why) but you never know, this allows you to keep the time in sync with your current location.  There are also options for running diagnostics, firmware upgrades and resetting the router back to factory defaults if you need to do a quick reset of all the settings.  Please note I always recommend to change the password from the default one as it is very easy to guess and you want to make sure all your data is safe, right?

As you can see from the results, the AC1750 performs superbly and to make matters even better, the 25 metre range consists from the front of the house all the way to the back garden; 8Mbps for downloading is nothing to be sniffed at on a tablet.  The ping is also relatively great and stable across all of the differences meaning the wireless signal emanating from the router is of great quality, much improved over ISP hub in which cuts out even upstairs.

Performance

I was very surprised to see the improvement over my own ISP hub,  The ping, even at a maximum distance of 25m was simply amazing and kept in line with the rest of the results meaning it was a stable connection throughout.  Obviously at 25m the speed was somewhat weaker and slower, but 3Mb download is still not exactly slow, especially given the distance and obstacles combined.  Obviously the wired connection was dominant in speeds but given the testing was done on the 2.4GHz wireless signal, the results speak for themselves; The AC1750 performs brilliantly and there was no issues with cutting out or drop-outs that I sometimes found with my own ISP hub.

The aesthetics of the Archer C7 AC1750 were a joy to behold, a very nice finish with a great look to it.  The 3 antennas which are for 5 GHz only with the 2.4 GHz are built in, in my opinion make it look like a really high end top quality product.

The 5 GHz option I tested via the TP Link T4U Ac1200 Wireless Dual Band USB adapter (click for the review).

I tested the Cable version of the TP-Link Archer C7 AC1750 priced around £90.

Space Run new Screenshots and new website

0

If you are waiting for the next Star Wars why not play Space Run today opens its official website! Space Run is a true indie title for PC that mixes strategy, space ship construction in real time and mechanics from the “tower defense” genre, with numerous twists and hyper dynamic gameplay.

Space Run is a nod to ‘80s science fiction and pays homage to many of its tropes and references. It is a true indie title developed by a “one-man studio”, namely Sylvain Passot who, after spending 10 years in a large French development studio, decided to develop his own concept, “’Space Run’’.

Although nowhere near the scale of the productions he had previously worked on, Sylvain was supported with enough resources to complete and add the finishing touches to his game, and Space Run still has plenty of surprises in store with its well-oiled game mechanics, addictive gameplay and intense, exciting missions.

The year is 2525. You are captain Buck Mann, the most fearless, the most daredevil and the most broke of all the pilots in the galaxy! Your new job: you are a Space Runner, one of the space haulage contractors whose job is to transport valuable cargo from one end of the galaxy to the other… and one thing’s for sure: it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

Not only do the cosmic highways regularly pass through asteroid belts of all sizes, but they are also used by dangerous and unscrupulous pirates armed to the teeth, whose fighters and battle cruisers will make short work of your transport vessel if you’re totally unprepared.

And finally, you will also encounter other galactic “drivers” with whom you are fiercely competitive, so take this opportunity to give them a friendly blast from your turbo lasers when you overtake them! Fulfil your contracts with gusto and your reputation will soar, opening the doors to new clients and more demanding and hazardous assignments… but which will also be more lucrative! The rewards earned from these missions will enable you to unlock new modules for your ship or upgrade those you already own: luxuries you can’t afford to be without if you want to survive the mortal perils lurking in space.

Laser turrets, missile launchers, shield generators, thrusters, power plants and other modules will allow you to adapt to new combat situations in mid-flight that arise on your travels. Build, recycle, repair and reposition the modules and improvise as best you can to deal with the multiple threats you will face.

Retry the first missions with new and more technically advanced modules you’ve just unlocked to complete them more quickly and improve your score. Then enter a brutal race with your friends to finish each mission in the shortest time possible… preferably with your ship still intact!
