Call of Duty fans are set to receive another premium offering of Downloadable Content (DLC) with Call of Duty: Black Ops II Uprising on 16th April. The game’s second, epic DLC pack of the year from award-winning studio Treyarch and Activision Publishing will be available first, exclusively on Xbox LIVE for the Xbox 360 beginning on 16th April, with other platforms to follow. Call of Duty: Black Ops II Uprising will include four new exotic multiplayer maps, plus an exciting new Zombies experience called “Mob of the Dead” that takes players to Alcatraz with four of the actors behind some of Hollywood’s most iconic mobsters, including Ray Liotta, Chazz Palminteri, Joe Pantoliano, and Michael Madsen.
“With Uprising, the team has really outdone itself again,” said Mark Lamia, Treyarch’s Studio Head. “In addition to creating four amazing new multiplayer maps, the studio has been hard at work on the Zombies front to surpass what we accomplished with ‘Call of the Dead.’ What they’ve done this time around is nothing Zombies fans have seen before – and if you don’t believe me, just wait until you get into Purgatory.”
Following tradition of the original Call of Duty: Black Ops fan-favourite Zombies mode “Call of the Dead,” Call of Duty: Black Ops II Uprising’s wildly creative new “Mob of the Dead” Zombies experience finds the four prohibition-era mobsters, Billy Handsome (Liotta), Al “The Weasel” Arlington (Pantoliano), Salvatore “Sal” DeLuca (Palmentiri), and Michael “Finn” O’Leary (Madsen) serving time in Alcatraz Prison, only to discover that being behind bars is the least of their problems. With plans to break out of Alcatraz foiled by the rise of the undead, the quartet of inmates will have to lean on their mob-derived skills with firearms, blunt instruments and improvised weaponry as they battle the zombies infesting and overrunning the island. In order to survive, players must work their way through the steel cells and aging concrete buildings while fighting off a multitude of zombified prisoners and guards trapped on the island with them. Additionally, if a player becomes an unfortunate victim, “Mob of the Dead’s” new feature known as “Purgatory” sends players into the afterlife. This new twist on Zombies gameplay is ripe with its own set of objectives and offers fans a truly new and unique experience.
Uprising also delivers another four new, exotic and diverse multiplayer maps set around the globe for fans to jump into. “Magma” is a modern Japanese village with volcanic eruptions carving multiple paths throughout the town. “Encore” takes place in the aftermath of a deserted London music festival and leaves numerous opportunities for run-and-gun, close quarters combat. “Vertigo” is a futuristic high rise in India housing a high-tech lab featuring dizzying vistas and multi-tiered pathways. Finally, “Studio” is a contemporary remake of “Firing Range,” a fan-favourite multiplayer map from the original Call of Duty®: Black Ops. “Studio” is a Hollywood movie back lot with a variety of cinematic themes that range from Sci-Fi to the Old West.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II Uprising will be available first, exclusively on Xbox LIVE for 1200 Microsoft Points on 16th April. The Uprising DLC Map Pack is also included in the Call of Duty: Black Ops II DLC Season Pass, where fans can purchase all four epic DLC Map Packs planned for the year, and also receive the Nuketown Zombies bonus map, and an exclusive in-game calling card as part of the discounted bundle offered at 4000 Microsoft Points – a discount of 800 Microsoft Points off the individual purchase of all four DLC Map Packs.

Facebook has announced details of a new family of apps for Android phones.
Focused around the home page of Android devices, the Home software is described as a “wrapper” for the operating system.
Notifications, messages and photos will appear on the phone’s main screen rather than on Facebook’s downloadable app.
Mark Zuckerberg explained that the Home app will provide “a new category of experiences” based around the homescreen.
It will be available to download from April 12, and will first launch on HTC First through AT&T America.
Initially, it will be made available for the Samsung Galaxy S3 and HT One X, with the HTC One and S4 models to follow later.
Zuckerberg dismissed recent rumours that Facebook was going to release its own smartphone, saying: “We’re not building a phone and we’re not building an operating system, but we’re building much more than an app.”
Home will allow users to view automatic updates on the homescreen and lockscreen. Likes can be achieved by double-taps, while a new service called Chat Heads combines SMS and Facebook messaging.
The messaging service is described as “a way you can talk to your friends no matter what application you’re in” and “the most fun and delightful messaging experience yet”.
“We spend our lives sharing and connecting,” said Zuckerberg. “What would it feel like if our phones were designed around people, not apps?”
Facebook Home will be available via the Play Store, but will not yet launch on tablets.

To create the latest video for Tomb Raider, the development team at Crystal Dynamics gathered to discuss their favourite climbing sequences: after much debate, one of the areas from late in the game beat the rest.
This video showcases Lara Croft scaling the Ziggurat, an ancient temple built upon an icy mountainside, which she must traverse in the latter stages of the game in order to reach her final destination. Lara must draw upon all of the climbing skills she’s learned throughout the game in order to conquer this challenge. A foreword from Noah Hughes, Creative Director at Crystal Dynamics, explains why they chose this sequence.
And here is the video:

VLC for Windows 8 and Windows 8 RT is one step closer to reality.
Here is the update from their Kickstarter page:
Technical update
If you followed closely, our main work, in addition to the UI, was to fight and replace the forbidden symbols not allowed on Windows App Store mode. We’ve been quite efficient at that, working closely with Mingw-w64 project and GCC developers.
The biggest result is that we have now cut down 90% of our symbols, that are forbidden on Metro Mode.
We mostly did this by:
- replacing our forbidden calls with newer authorized equivalent calls,
- modifying gcc and Mingw-w64,
- writing new code in a special library of ours,
- writing dummy functions,
- disabling VLC code that would not work on the Metro platform,
- moving VLC to MSVCRT 11.0, moving all the VLC codebase to UNICODE and WideChars to fit the new requirements.
We did also a lot of minor things to help the integration of libVLC and VLC in this modern platform.
What are we working on now:
We are now mainly working on 2 things:
- make VLC work with MSVCRT 11.0 without crashing
- write headers and C/C++ code to access the new fashion of COM APIs in which WinRT is written in.
What we are gonna work just after:
- ARM, ARM, ARM.
- WP8

If you have, or are interested in the Raspberry Pi, then you might want to download the new issue of The MagPi digital magazine.
This is how the Raspberry Pi guys describe the magazine:
The MagPi, a free online magazine dedicated to the Raspberry Pi, whose first issue was released a few days ago, is a perfect example of that. It’s been put together entirely by volunteers, guided by Ash Stone, Jason “Jaseman” Davies, Meltwater and other names you may recognise from the forums and comments on this site. I was broadly aware they were up to something, but I was amazed at the scope of what they sent me to look at earlier in the week, and I’ve been really, really impressed by the first issue. There are Debian and Puppy guides, articles on computing history, ideas for robotics projects, tutorials in Scratch and Python (with code you can type in yourself, just like in the good old days), features about the Raspberry Pi itself, and other goodies to dig into. I really can’t recommend it enough, and if you haven’t been lucky enough to get to the head of the queue, you don’t need a Raspberry Pi to find it useful (you might actually find the magazine good preparation before yours arrives).
It is a really interesting read – so go download it today, and let us know what you think!
