Review: Cyberpunk 2077 Limited Edition Xbox One Wireless Controller

So far everything about Cyberpunk 2077 has my attention, from the marketing and trailers, to the social media promotions and the incredible Cyberpunk 2077 Guided Gameplay preview that was shown at EGX 2019. Not to mention the very fact that he has the “Breathtaking” Keanu Reeves playing the role of Johnny Silverhand. Well, how best to honour that character than by giving him his very own unique Xbox One Wireless Controller

The moment I saw this controller I know I needed it in my collection for when I play Cyberpunk 2077 when it releases in September and in fact I actually had planned to do a double hitter Birthday treat for myself by picking up the controller and the game together. However, this controller is in limited numbers and I noticed that it was becoming increasingly difficult to track down so when a notification popped up at my local ARGOS to say that it was back in stock but in limited numbers….well…..no brainer really!

Straight away I love the packaging design for the controller with the box matching the vibrant colours of the Cyberpunk 2077 marketing so far, both front and back keeping the branding on point making the reveal of the actual controller when you cut that sealing tape and open the box even more special.

This is one spectacular looking controller and as I have said before, the team over at Xbox Seattle just make the finest to retail custom consoles and controllers for any platform right now. Just the colours alone make this controller pop as the left side is Silver with Red bumper and trigger buttons whilst the right side is black but with the face buttons black with red to offset the classic black bumper and trigger buttons.

What makes this controller design more delightful are the decals on the controller with the left Silver side bearing the Arasaka Corporation logo, a world-wide mega-corporation dealing in corporate security, banking, and manufacturing who as dodgy as they are powerful. Both thumbsticks have the rubberised grip as does the back of the controller to help maintain hand grip in the sweatiest of shoot-outs, races and firefights you may have playing on Xbox and Cyberpunk 2077 especially. I love how both colour schemes elegantly meet with a style that feel like its machinery spliced to an organic controller.

The right side has the iconic ‘NO FUTURE’ literally scratched into the controller and when your fingers feel the scratch as it does the joint as each side connects. Having that tactile feeling is what makes this controller standout as the same technique that was used on the GEARS 5 Custom Console and Controller. It adds an extra layer to what is already a visually delicious controller design and I really do love the distressed style to it with visible scratches and paint tearing

The battery cover has the SAMURAI gang emblem on it for that finishing touch when you turn the controller around and something that at first made it shout YES outloud but quickly discovered it was just standard for this controller, was seeing what I first believed was a Limited Edition Number saying *2077 but of course, each controller has this alongside a QR code that when scanned….well I won’t spoil that.

As with all Xbox Controllers, two AA Batteries are also included so you can use this controller right out the box as well the usual warranty information and a handy 14 Day Trial code for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate….and this is where I am a little disappointed in that I do feel these trial codes never help the person purchasing it as at this point, who does not have a current subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate really and these trial codes only work on new accounts. Personally I feel a one month code should be included, especially in custom consoles, to allow a person to extend their XGPU subscription but that is more of a personal peeve than a complaint against this controller. There is also no in game reward or item code with this controller which is a shame, even if it included something like a cosmetic item to make you stand out in the game itself as you will if you are playing the game using this controller.

I really love this controller and how it looks and feels and glad I was able to get one before stock ran out, believe me this was not an easy controller to track down online here in London. This will now wait until I have Cyberpunk 2077 in my Xbox One X to play come September and I genuinely wish I could afford the custom console as well but for now, this controller will look great whilst playing the game and in my collection.

Cyberpunk 2077 releases on September 17th 2020 for Xbox One, enhanced for Xbox One X and with the new ‘Smart Delivery’ for the soon to be released next generation Xbox Series X console, all you have to do is buy Cyberpunk 2077 ONCE and when you come to owning the Series X, it will automatically update it to the Series X version….FOR FREE!!!

Resident Evil: Village Announced for New Gen Consoles for 2021

0

During the PlayStation’s Future of Gaming digital event, Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, announced Resident Evil Village, the eighth entry in the best-selling Resident Evil series. The all-new title is currently in development using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine, which was used to create vivid gameplay experiences in hit titles such as Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Devil May Cry 5. RE Engine paired with next generation console technology will elevate the survival horror experience in Resident Evil Village to new heights, as the title will showcase the most realistic and terrifying graphics to date.

In the debut cinematic trailer released today, Capcom revealed a glimpse of the evocative new setting and storyline of Resident Evil Village. Set a few years after the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 7 biohazard, the all-new storyline begins with Ethan and his wife Mia living peacefully in a new location, free from their past nightmares. Just as they are building their new life together, tragedy befalls them once again. Chris Redfield, the legendary hero from the Resident Evil series who made a brief appearance in Resident Evil 7 biohazard, is reacquainted with the couple and horribly disrupts their life, leaving Ethan devastated and thrown into an entirely new nightmare.

The first-person action in Resident Evil Village begins when players assume the role of a distraught and shattered Ethan as he seeks to uncover the mysterious new horrors that plague a once peaceful village. Throughout this terrifying journey, players will fight for every breath as they are hunted by vicious new enemies that have infested the snow-capped locale. Channeling the capabilities of next generation consoles, the detailed realism and relentless feeling of fear will increase with each desperate battle for survival, while moments of calm will leave players wondering what new horrors await.

Resident Evil Village is scheduled for a 2021 release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Steam.

Goodbye Volcano High Announced for PS4 and PS5 in 2021

0

Indie studio KO_OP, developers of the award-winning GNOG and Winding Worlds, are proud to reveal their brand new title via today’s PlayStation Digital Showcase: the cinematic narrative adventure Goodbye Volcano High. The emotional, high-stakes teenage narrative adventure will take players on a  journey to self discovery, deciding how to live your life to the fullest when you know that your days are numbered.

The team is also excited to welcome actor Lachlan Watson (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) who will lend their voice to Fang, the game’s playable protagonist. Goodbye Volcano High will be making its debut in 2021 on the PlayStation 5 (PS5) system, PlayStation 4 and Steam.

Fang is a typical 18-year-old dinosaur: they’re more concerned about their band going viral than they are about what happens after graduation. But they’re about to have much bigger problems. Will they find time to figure themselves out? Can they balance navigating a changing world with a budding romance? During hard times, what do we owe each other? Goodbye Volcano High is a cinematic narrative adventure about the end of an era… and the beginning of a love story.

“This type of game is definitely a first for KO_OP. We are creating a detailed and colorful art style that resembles an animated movie, with gorgeous hand-painted backgrounds and expressive characters that come together to create a game where every shot feels special. Our goal with the art is to bring you close to what the characters are experiencing, and allow their emotions to really shine through,” says Lucie Viatge, the Art Director on the project. “We’ve been building an incredible team of artists for the project, and it’s been really amazing to bring our vision to life.”

Goodbye Volcano High is a queer narrative adventure game created by a diverse team: one of the key pillars of the studio. “Our company is a co-op in which all the voices matter. The team working on GVH is about ten people, all coming from diverse backgrounds. Making a queer game about a non-binary main character is hugely important to us,” says Saleem Dabbous, Studio Director. “Partnering with PlayStation has given us the opportunity to build something of incredible production value. Everything you see in this first trailer was taken directly from the game and is playable.”

Features:

  • Fully voice-acted cast featuring Lachlan Watson (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
  • A queer narrative created by a diverse team with multiple storylines and unique endings
  • DUALSENSE Wireless Controller haptic technology creates a new kind of storytelling experience (PS5 only)
  • Cinematic and musical minigames that blend seamlessly into the narrative
  • Guide Fang through difficult choices with branching storylines
  • Hand drawn art and animations rendered in stunning 4K
  • Original soundtrack composed by Dabu (Winding Worlds, Dwarf Fortress) featuring local Montreal musician Brigitte Naggar on vocals

New Gameplay Trailer for Winbound as Pre-Orders go Live

0

Deep Silver has announced that Windbound, a stunning survival-crafting RPG-adventure from developer 5 Lives Studios, is available to pre-order for Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store with all other platforms to follow soon. The game has also been confirmed for Google Stadia.

Deep Silver also exclusively unveiled the first Windbound gameplay reveal trailer during The Escapist’s Indie Showcase. A new day dawns on the Forbidden Islands. Kara, driven to find the path that leads her back to her tribe, pushes on in her extraordinary odyssey into the unknown.

The islands are alive with magic and enchantment telling the tales of their origin and revealing the role Kara unknowingly plays in it as each artefact that she unearths unlocks a new clue to her past.

Witness Kara’s evolution in survival as she scavenges for resources and gains the skills to craft and equip her with the ultimate sea vessel and the strongest combat-ready attire and weaponry. Increasingly ferocious battles on land and now at sea will transform her into the hardened warrior she was born to become. All the while, a storm unlike any she has ever seen, is pulling her through the treacherous waters to face a mystical presence that lies beneath the sea.

Players who pre-order the game via PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Nintendo eShop, Steam or Epic stores will receive three exclusive Ancestral items.

  • Ancestral Attire – This treasured garment – fit for either a warrior or a priest – has been handed down from generation to generation, and now the time has come for Kara to honour her past.
  • Ancestral Oar -The Oceanic Gyre was revered in times past, though its true significance is enigmatic to Kara’s people today. Nevertheless, this salt-treated wooded oar remains sturdy and functional, despite its age.
  • Ancestral Knife– How or where the ancestors acquired these Sea Shards remains a mystery, but few would deny their efficacy. Luminous, durable and impossibly sharp, this blade cuts as well today as it did a hundred years ago.

To Kara’s tribe, the exploits of her ancestors are legendary. Hunters, fishers, warriors, poets and philosophers, their stories tell of a people who lived in perfect harmony with the natural world and swam the deep waters in the company of gods. Though the tale of their downfall has been lost to time, their legacy lives on in these artefacts that have endured to this day.

All the News from and Our Reaction to PlayStation 5 Reveal Event!

0

Well this was certainly a long anticipated event for PlayStation fans as Sony has kept the gaming world waiting a very long time just to see the PlayStation 5 console itself let alone the launch and first year lineup of games for the PS5, but now the wait is over.

Below you will find the news, trailers and my own reaction to the special PlayStation 5: The Future of Gaming event from June 11th 2020!

Event opens with a nice look at the life span of the PlayStation 4 and the big titles of this soon to be “last generation” of PlayStation….which actually felt more like a send off than a celebration by the end of this event.

Strange to see the event open with yet again GTA V and GTA Online somehow getting another remaster for the PlayStation 5 but “Expanded” and with the announcement that appears to show that every PS5 over will get it for free and until then, PS4 owners of GTA V will get $1million per month until enhanced version launches for PS5.

Jim Ryan Pres CEO of Sony PlayStation talking about GTA partnership and a year of talking about the PS5 and now to talk about the games coming to the PS5 leaving us with the go home line of “Have the games do the talking”.

HORIZON II: Forbidden West

Finally to end on….The first look at the PlayStation 5 console itself, in two versions, PS5 with a disc drive and an All digital version

My Thoughts…

Well that was certainly an unmissable build up to the big reveal of the PlayStation 5 console and jumping straight to that, I do like how it looks compared to the Xbox Series X but do feel the Series X design has a very sensible will fit in your room easily whilst the PS5 is definitely a statement almost over designed concept feel to the look and seeing an all digital version as well is a logical option and clearly borrowed from the Xbox All digital option which I expect to see replicated for the Series X either at launch or year one.

But to the games and there are some old faces returning, some expected names mentioned and some very interesting new titles to keep an eye for in the weeks and months leading to the next generation launching. The Miles Morales Spider-Man game feels very much like a spin off game rather than a full sequel to Spider-Man PS4 but great to see him get a full game rather than a side part in the possible sequel. Horizon II: Forbidden West looks incredible, I loved the original so more of this and with the power of the PS5 is going to be incredible.

But, putting on my devils advocate hate for a moment and being impartial, this event did suffer the very same limited showing of actual PS5 gameplay just as the Microsoft Xbox Series X 3rd Party game event last month suffered so we had a lot of snazzy announcement trailers but not actual gameplay or at least, nothing that was identified as being gameplay.

I am also a little worried that they seemed to offer no real answer to Microsoft’s Smart Delivery system for their own 1st party now PlayStation Studios as the logo kept popping up identified, with all titles only showing as being for the PS5 which I appreciate this event is all about the PS5 but as someone very much unlikely to be able to jump to PS5 on launch, there is a real heartbreaking moment to see follow up to PS4 games I loved like Horizon Zero Dawn, Spider-Man: Miles Morales for example, that as of tonight I am expecting not to be able to play unlike over at Xbox with smart delivery, if I can’t make the jump to the Series X I will still be playing HALO Infinite this holiday season on my Xbox One X.

There was also a lack of mentioning or showing of anything PSVR for the PS5, no answer to what is in my opinion, the best value for money gaming subscription in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate with maybe a new version of PS Now and with a new generation where the services will matter as much as the exclusive games, Sony PlayStation seem to be either keeping their cards close to their chest or they do not have any answer right now to what Xbox is offering already.

Overall this is still early days for the PS5 and Sony were playing catchup with Microsoft who have been showcasing the Xbox Series X since December 2019. We now know what the console looks like and a good idea of games in the first year of the PS5 but questions remain and whilst many expected a price and release date following yesterday leak of a £599.99 price tag on Amazon UK for the PS5, we are still left with questions.

PlayStation fans have a lot to be excited for and now eyes turn to Xbox in July when the Microsoft Studios will reveal their Xbox Series X games line up and I hope they have as diverse number of games as we were treated to tonight.

The road to Next Generation gaming….has finally fully begun!
