EGX 2022, a convention as lively as a bear on a rampage. The lights and sounds of games being played filled the air with a sense of excitement. It was like last night at the circus; standing in the middle of it, I felt like the circus master. I took my seat at an unassuming game, Shadows of Doubt, surrounded by vines that crept up the sides of the booth like… vines.
– Me (trying to be a film-noir PI)
Ok, now I’ve got the ‘PI monologue’ out of my system, I can say that one of the most jaw-droppingly detailed games I got my hands on was Shadows of Doubt. From ColePowered Games and published by Fireshine Games comes a detective stealth game like nothing I’ve played before.
In a sci-fi noir city that could be ripped from the pages of Frank Miller, you embark on an assignment to catch a serial killer. By any means necessary. The game is set in a fictional, hyper-industrialised 1980s city where the police outsource work. You take the role of one of these outsourced contractors in an assignment to catch a killer.
Shadows of Doubt Gameplay
What makes this game stand out is how much you can explore. It’s literally everything. Every building, every room, every NPC, pretty much every single item. It’s astonishing. The game has a main storyline and many side-quests that can earn you extra cash. This cash comes in handy for buying new gear, upgrading your office and apartment, and more. As I traversed through the city, which is totally free-roam, I found myself in shops, other people’s homes, and on the streets. I felt like a real noir private detective and almost broke into one of those ‘the rain beat down on the sidewalk’ monologues.
You can break into buildings, hack computers, and steal items all as part of your investigation. Just be sure to be stealthy and don’t get caught or you’ll find yourself under attack! As you find clues, and build up your investigation, notes and details are added to your journal as a ‘murder board’, and files of clues start to lead you to new areas, new paths of investigation, and new suspects to talk to.
If this wasn’t impressive enough, every single NPC has a life. They have apartments, jobs, routines, favourite things to do and places to go, and people to interact with. Their lives will continue without you, when you uncover this information, it will play into the secrets of this dark and stormy city. With a blend of procedural generation and hand-crafted design, I have never experienced a world so genuinely alive. Because of this, every game experience should feel unique, but not so totally random. This is open world simulation at the next level.
With elements of RPG, you can level up your skills and become more proficient in stealth techniques. The game played well when I got used to the controls and I was able to navigate the world, journal, and menus easily.
Shadows of Doubt has Atmosphere…
Graphically, the art style reminds me of older FPS and RPG games, and I didn’t have a problem with this. The atmosphere is really developed though in the sound effects and music. Blending a perfect film-noir soundtrack with sounds of a city, and rain, you could immerse yourself fully.
My gameplay session went well… until I accidentally stole something and ended up having to kill two citizens that retaliated. I’ll need to work on my stealth skills before jumping back in!
Release and Availability
With no firm release date, I hope it’s not a long wait for Shadows of Doubt. The game will be available on PC, and you can wishlist it on Steam now!
When I discovered Tiny Bookshop by Neoludic Games at EGX 2022 I fell in love with this game almost instantly. Partly because of my love of books and partly because it’s incredibly charming. I got hands-on with Tiny Bookshop, and it didn’t disappoint.
Tiny Bookshop was born out of the idea of being stressed and wanting to escape it all. In the game, you play someone who daydreams of a tiny utopia and leaves behind city stress to open a tiny bookshop and join a community selling used books.
Gameplay
Tiny Bookshop is a point-and-click book shop simulator where you must stock your shop and then watch and interact with the locals as they visit. Any books you sell will earn you your income that you can use to kit out your tiny book shop as well as restock it with different genres. The game develops as you spend more time in the community and can help the locals, solve mysteries, and become part of the community.
The mechanics are all straightforward to understand and the controls were very nice to use. Part of the strategy is working out what to stock on your limited shelf space. Different customers will want different genres. In the mode between days, you can buy stock, either specifically listed or clearance stock that is more of a gamble.
The book shop itself is completely customisable so you can make it look how you want it to which is a nice feature. Speaking to the team, they explained that there may be plans to expand your tiny bookshop, but it isn’t about becoming a bookselling giant, and honestly, I’m glad. The whole charm of this game is in the rustic and small nature of the shop and its place in the town.
In the simulation mode, town residents will come by your shop and may interact with you. As day turns to night your shop closes for the day and you can see how much you’ve made. As you progress you can move to different locations to try and make more profit and become part of the community.
Art and Music
While the art style is simplistic, there is a wonderful charm in the almost painted backdrops and characters. The colour palette is also perfect and invokes further relaxation.
The music is relaxing and honestly, the whole experience was relaxing. It’s the perfect game to play when you want to unwind and escape it all and one, which I will certainly be adding to my game library. The idea of running away to a seaside town to sell books is certainly appealing and thanks to Neoludic, you can now do just that.
Tiny Bookshop Conclusions and Release
Tiny Bookshop won the most charming game award in the Indie Cup 2022, and I can see why. I have never fallen so in love with such a relaxing game before and smiled the entire time while playing it. Roll on release, I have a bookshop to open!
Tiny Bookshop is still in development with no confirmed release date although a hopeful 2024 release. It will be available on PC, Mac, SteamOS, and iPad. You can wishlist it on Steam now!
If you had spoken to me before EGX 2022 about playing a game where you get addicted to having neat cable and pipe management, I would have raised an eyebrow that Sir Roger Moore would have been proud of. But here I am, totally addicted to one of my favourite indie titles of the show, The Last Starship.
The latest project from Introversion Software (Prison Architect), The Last Starship is best described as an engineering space simulator and strategy game.
Gameplay
You start the game picking your ship hull and having to use the limited resources you must construct its necessary systems – life support, engines, an FTL drive, and a power reactor. Once constructed, you need to manage your various fuels and ensure everything is connected properly. This part of the game is played in a top-down ‘construction mode’ and isn’t as mind-boggling as it sounds.
While the menu system is incredibly detailed and has a complex learning curve, I had no issues ensuring my first ship was ready to explore the vast unknowns of space. I must also admit that this is the point where I got addicted to making sure my cabling and pipework were neat and organised. Maybe this is pulled from real life where I spend an inordinate amount of time ensuring perfect cable management for my consoles and PC! Either way, I really enjoyed the construction side of things, working out what I needed, how I could hook everything up and testing it. It was my childhood Star Trek engineer dreams come true!
When it comes to details you know to expect a lot from Introversion Software – if you’ve ever played previous titles in their catalogue then the level of detail is what you’d expect while still being accessible.
The Last Starship is slow-paced, but as you build your ship, and eventually your armada, so much time will have passed you won’t even notice because you’ll be so engrossed in building the ultimate ships.
Now, The Last Starship isn’t all building – oh no. In fact, that’s only one small part of it. There’s plenty of resource management and upgrading to do. Once your ship is built you can engage that FTL drive with an impression of your favourite starship captain and set out in the galaxy to engage in a vast number of procedurally generated missions. This can be anything from combat (where you can switch to tactical mode) as well as constructing a mining operation, carrying out rescue missions or some good old-fashioned science and exploration.
The ships are varied in layout which means as the player you will be challenged to construct the systems properly to ensure the best capabilities possible. It also looked like there was the possibility to upgrade components as you got further into things such as larger fuel tanks. It’s important to remember that if you want your ship to have it… you need to construct it!
Visually, the cartoon style paired together with vibrant colours is a joy to look at. I particularly loved the animation for FTL travel and am looking forward to seeing how this game develops further.
Final Thoughts on The Last Starship
Honestly, the potential here for engaging content is limitless. I can’t wait to get stuck into the game when it releases and set out to explore, build, mine, rescue and fight my way to having an epic armada.
Release Information
The Last Starship is slated for release sometime in 2023 and will be available on PC. No word yet on other platforms. You can register interest and apply for early access on Steam now!
As mankind expands, space becomes more of a premium. Consequently, our homes become smaller and we must adjust. Fortunately, this doesn’t prevent technology from advancing. We now see all sorts of micro solutions that help battle tighter working areas. One such advancement can be seen in mini gaming keyboards. These minute devices pack a mighty punch while taking up approximately 60% of the space. One such keyboard is the Apex 9 Mini.
This tiny beast is jam-packed with features, is built to last, and looks incredible. However, if you are not used to such a minuscule accessory, it takes some getting used to. Yet, once you are familiar with its layout, you’ll enjoy some market-leading technology and a comfortable gaming experience.
I recently covered the Apex 9 TKLand drooled over its elite style and responsive nature. Unsurprisingly, its smaller brother was warmly welcomed to my bosom. Moreover, I enjoyed it competitively, and it delivered a comfortable and oddly familiar typing system.
The Apex 9 Mini allows you acres of room for your mouse.
What’s in the box of the Apex 9 Mini?
The compact and robust cardboard box screams professional and elite. With clean-cut images, striking colours, and key selling points, it hits the mark immediately. Furthermore, it is fully recyclable, and that’s a massive plus.
The Apex 9 Mini. This dwarf keyboard made me smile instantly. When compared to TKL or full-sized devices, this one looks tiny and cute. However, looks are deceiving as this packs an all-mighty punch. What’s more, it has fantastic build quality, a wonderful RGB light design, and works well in tight spaces.
USB-A to USB-C cable. This detachable cable is well made and will last the test of time. However, if it were to break, it can be replaced with a standard USB-C cable.
Keycap Puller. Located in a hidden compartment, this helps to remove each key.
User guide. There are some custom options, so reading this manual is advised.
The compact packaging. The Apex 9 Mini keyboard.Power the keyboard with this USB-C cable.A small and easy to read user manual.A simple keycap puller.Ooohhh so bright. The full package.
Technical aspects.
A mini keyboard must be user-friendly while packing in as much technology as possible. Fortunately, the Apex 9 Mini does just that. Like its bigger brother, I was amazed by its light touch and responsive nature. With a small 2-point actuation, you get the best of both worlds. When using it for daily business, it reacts to a deft touch and is easy to type with. However, when you relax and get your game face on, it steps up to the plate. With a phenomenal 1mm light press option, or an accuracy-focused 1.5mm mode, you are always in control.
Furthermore, this has a 33% faster actuation compared with leading optical keyboards. This is an elite figure that will make a difference when playing online. As seconds really matter, you want the best you can get. Consequently, this rapid input has a 0.2ms response time with zero debounce. This is particularly noticeable when you team it up with a pro gaming mouse. At the moment, I recommend the ROCCAT Kone XP Air, though SteelSeries are sure to question my choices.
Now, you may worry that a smaller keyboard is tough to use. Well, I was at first, but I shouldn’t have been. Thanks to the double shot PBT caps, the keys are engineered for accuracy and improved keystrokes. Alongside this, side-printed secondary actions give you the full functionality of a “normal” keyboard.
Pull the keys and change the feeling.
Incredible build quality.
I associate gaming accessories with incredible build quality. Fortunately, the Apex 9 Mini didn’t let me down. Thanks to its aircraft-grade aluminium alloy case, it feels fantastic. You’ll love the upmarket look and the durable finish. This is enhanced because of the stunning RGB display. With preset options, you can adjust the look at the touch of a button. Furthermore, you can shut it off altogether, if you so wish.
If the preset modes don’t take your fancy, just download the SteelSeries GG app. This simple and intuitive tool is your go-to software for all things SteelSeries. More specifically, this device enables you to customise each RGB zone. This was great if you wanted a specific style or something to stand out from the crowd.
Comfortable to use and custom keys.
Everything I’ve covered is key with any accessory. However, comfort has to be a priority. Fortunately, the Apex 9 Mini has 3 options to choose from. First, there is the horizontal position. Second, a small set of support feet gives you a minor lift. Finally, the highest position raises the device about an inch from your desk. Whichever option you select, the keyboard is comfortable to type with and will be suitable for extended gaming sessions.
The OptiPoint Optical Switches are an incredible piece of technology. However, I was more impressed by the swappable keys. If you don’t like the standard setup, you can invest in three options. Linear, clicky, and tactile change the feel of your inputs and make the device personal to you. However, these are an after-sales option and I stuck with the standard model.
The final but equally important area to note is the recordable macros. This is a key component of any gaming setup. Subsequently, the Apex 9 Mini is suitable for MMO titles, as well as excelling in FPS and racing games. Using the handy SteelSeries function button, you can record any macros you wish to use. These are then unleashed with a combination of keys, and this is a game-changer.
Customise your Apex 9 Mini however you wish.
Is the Apex 9 Mini worth it?
If you have the space, I’d recommend looking at the Apex 9 TKL. However, if your desk is tiny and you desire free movement for your mouse, then the Apex 9 Mini is a must. Not only is it 40% smaller than its competitors, but it is filled with much more impressive technology. With stunning RGB design, phenomenal build quality, responsive keystrokes, and easy-to-use shortcuts, it is as simple to master as its larger counterparts.
On top of this, it’ll make you stand out against your peers as you compete to be the best. Accordingly, it is a phenomenal device for pros and amateurs and should definitely be considered. I loved it, once I became familiar with it, and I recommend you to buy it here!

In June 2022 Rogue Games announced The Last Case of Benedict Fox, a stunning, horror-based Metroidvania platformer that won an award at Gamescom this year. At EGX 2022, I got to get hands-on with this exciting new game from Plot Twist.
What started as an idea for a graphic novel, The Last Case of Benedict Fox is fully realised in stunning 4k at 60fps. The evolution from a graphic novel idea to a game is clear to see. The story, atmosphere, and art are so crucial to what makes this game so appealing. In the game, you play as Benedict Fox, a paranormal detective who must uncover the fate of a family in 1925 Boston while battling a demon trapped inside his own body. As you explore the mansion, you access Limbo, the decaying consciousness of the deceased. Full of arcane mystery, creepy occultist orders, and plenty of demons, The Last Case of Benedict Fox is an intriguing mystery right from the outset.
Gameplay
The Last Case of Benedict Fox plays as a 2D side-scrolling platformer. This, however, is an understatement as honestly, it’s so much more! Blending the classic feel of Metroidvania games with intriguing puzzles and ability progression. Integrated into this is free-form, Souls-like combat which promises to challenge the player as they delve deeper into the minds of the deceased.
While engaging in combat, I found the need to use the weapons I had along with the environment I was in to get a favourable outcome. Partway through, I could improve my skills, which certainly helped later in the demo.
Within the mansion, you can free-roam and search for clues about the family that will allow you to enter Limbo. It’s here that the platforming and combat happen as you traverse the mind looking for pieces to puzzles and trying to gain access to locked areas. The ability to inspect items for hidden clues gave the exploration side of things more depth which made me feel like I was the character experiencing this creepy quest. In addition, you can buy upgrades and items from a vendor that will help you in Limbo as well as visit the tattooist. This is a cool feature within the game that unlocks additional skills or enhancements while in Limbo – and what I learned quickly is that these are vital to succeed in traversing the world.
The Last Case of Benedict Fox takes classic elements from this style of game – like picking locks for example – and puts a unique Lovecraftian spin on it. In the case of lock picking, it’s picking the teeth of monsters sealing the doors! Everything felt fresh, felt well-developed within the in-game universe, and yet also felt comfortably familiar.
I was astonished by the depth this game offers, exploration, platforming, combat, puzzles, and character progression mechanics all into one package.
The Atmosphere of The Last Case of Benedict Fox
As well as gameplay being incredibly smooth and highly enjoyable with complex puzzles and challenging combat it is also achingly pretty to look at. The cartoon art style gives off Tim Burton vibes and is perfect for setting the scene of the game.
This is a game you will want to play with the sound on. With an atmospheric and creepy soundtrack paired with wonderfully acted voiceover work, the world of Benedict Fox comes alive in an eerie and fantastical way.
The atmosphere is also created with lighting states, for example when exploring Limbo, the colour palette changes quite dramatically and, in some places, even goes black and white. All these choices by the development team are for one purpose – to make the game creepy, yet still fun.
Final thoughts
The Last Case of Benedict Fox was a fun and immersive experience, and honestly, I wish the demo had been longer because I enjoyed it that much! The puzzles were fun, the combat was difficult yet enjoyable, and the exploration was exciting. The world and characters that have been developed have certainly piqued my interest and you find yourself wanting to know more about the family and more about the demon inside you.
This is a murder mystery with a difference, and if you like platformers that offer up a whole lot more all bundled in an eerie, atmospheric, and emotional paranormal story – this is one to watch out for. I know one thing, I can’t wait to solve the case and immerse myself in this dark, twisted world.
The Last Case of Benedict Fox is slated for release in 2023 on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
From Team NINJA and Koei Tecmo Games (Nioh, Dead or Alive) comes the explosive new Soulsborne action-adventure game, Wo Long Fallen Dynasty. Revealed earlier this year, I managed to try out the demo at EGX 2022. Here’s what I thought about this difficult dark fantasy epic.
Gameplay
The demo was played with PS5 controllers and played smoothly throughout my experience. The controls made sense for this style of game and moves were easy to pick up. What will be a challenge is timing. Timing parries, dodges, and attacks are crucial to stay alive. I don’t profess to be that good when it comes to Soulsborne games, but I know to know what I’m getting in for. It’s challenging. Combat is brutal. It is, however, an incredible amount of fun and despite dying more times than I will publicly admit, I never felt frustrated to the point I wanted to give up.
Set in the later Han Dynasty of China, Wo Long Fallen Dynasty tells the story of a nameless soldier fighting for survival in a world where demons plague the lands. Fighting off monsters with hidden powers within and intricate swordplay. You can switch between defensive and offensive moves and master when to use what will be the difference between restarting a section of the game and progressing deeper into the adventure.
Going through the start of the game, it looks like there will be a detailed character customisation ability prior to jumping in. This will help make the character your own. It is not yet known how much voiceover the game will feature, but I suspect the player character may be silent. This will immerse the player into being the unknown protagonist. Once loaded into the demo, I found myself in a cave area, planting standards and fighting off a very diverse array of monsters. One that stands out is the tiger creature. Fighting it requires mastery of the dodge to avoid a frenzied flurry of attacks. This tiger creature is now my mortal nemesis, and I will defeat it when the game launches! Very little else was given away in terms of the story or where the game will take you, but I am intrigued to find out more.
When it comes to the character, and as you would expect, there is a leveling-up system to better improve your skills and abilities. Enemies will also have a level so you can decide for yourself if you want to fight or try and get past them.
The controls felt solid during my gameplay session, and I think with practice the combo moves and control layout will fall into place.
Wo Long Fallen Dynasty Sound and Visuals
I was blown away by just how good this demo copy looked. Wo Long Fallen Dynasty is going to be a spectacular visual feast. The fluidity of movement when performing sword-based action (which is based on Chinese martial arts) was flawless. The movement and switching between offensive and defensive blended so well that it felt like one continuous dance, rather than the clunky affair it can be. In addition, the powers and skill trees will offer up countless combos as each player works out their own preferred style.
Conclusions and Release
A dark, supernatural action-adventure game set in the Three Kingdoms. Wo Long Fallen Dynasty is shaping up to be the next great game in the Soulsborne category. Be under no illusion, it will be incredibly difficult (and is not likely to have an easy mode) but incredibly satisfying to play. With its stunning next-gen visuals, I can’t wait to review the game in full… oh, and finally beat that tiger. Wo Long Fallen Dynasty is slated for release in early 2023 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Picking the right gaming headset can be tough. Consequently, with many options available and a range of price points to look at, it can be a minefield. This is particularly relevant if you have a limited budget. If you are a gamer who wants great quality but doesn’t want to break the bank, it can be particularly tough. Luckily, though, the Turtle Beach Recon 500 could be the solution.
This inexpensive, stylish, and well-built headset offers some high-end functionality at a fraction of the cost. What’s more, Turtle Beach is a household name that is known for its quality. Therefore, if you are planning to upgrade your existing setup, or buying a gift for a loved one, this accessory could tick every box.
PRO-LEVEL COMMS.
What’s in the box of the Turtle Beach Recon 500?
The sturdy packaging is 100% recyclable and feels robust and hard-wearing. Moreover, it is adorned with colourful images and key selling points. Furthermore, it’s a nice size and protects the contents perfectly.
The Turtle Beach Recon 500. This headset comes in a range of colours and I’m reviewing the latest one. The Arctic camo option looks fantastic and can be paired with the React-R controller. Other key features to note are its lightweight nature, smooth finish, and wired connection. Other than this, there is a simple volume control located on the left ear cup and a mic mute button.
Detachable mic. Now, you may play solo and have no need for a microphone. The Turtle Beach Recon 500 covers this option. The Truspeak gaming microphone can be attached with ease and is simple to adjust.
PC audio cables. This headset is multifunctional and, accordingly, you are given a PC audio splitter for maximum compatibility.
Stickers and user manual. The final items are the stickers and the simple user manual. Fortunately, this headset is easy to understand, so the guide isn’t really essential.

The Turtle Beach Recon 500 headphones are designed for multi-platform use. But arguably, they are focused on the FPS genre and team games. Therefore, it was fantastic that the microphone delivers crystal clear comms. Thanks to its noise-cancelling technology, you needn’t worry about garbled messages or horrendous feedback. Alongside this, the audio sounds amazing thanks to the revolutionary drivers.
The over-ear cups have 60mm Eclipse Dual Drivers that deliver meaty and aggressive sound. Consequently, you’ll hear every noise as the dedicated tweeters and woofers work in perfect harmony. What’s more, they are engineered with Accutone to create acoustic perfection. This level of tech in an entry-level device is almost unheard of. Subsequently, you get a lot of bang for your buck if you don’t wish to invest heavily.
Having looked at the Turtle Beach Stealth 600 and 700 Gen MAX 2 headsets, I was impressed with the audio quality and the extra features. However, the Turtle Beach Recon 500 headset still delivers an immersive and game-changing experience, nonetheless.
TURTLE BEACH ACCUTUNE™ PRECISION
Comfort during extended gaming sessions.
If you play FPS games, you know you are in for the long haul. As such, your headphones must be comfortable, lightweight, and last each session. Fortunately, thanks to the wired approach, you needn’t worry about the juice running out. Instead, all you must do is plug in the 3.5mm audio jack and away you go.
So, that’s the power sorted! Now, let’s look at ear comfort and overcoming the issues of wearing glasses. No one likes to have hot ears. In fact, any headphones that do this are instantly dismissed. Fortunately, though, the breathable memory foam cushioning is durable and lightweight. Accordingly, wearing them for long periods wasn’t a problem. Furthermore, if you wear glasses, this is designed with them in mind. Thanks to the exclusive Prospecs design, little pressure is exerted onto the frame of your eyewear. This was phenomenal, as it enhances comfort and removes an annoying issue for many players.
TURTLE BEACH 60MM ECLIPSE™ DUAL DRIVERS
Are the Turtle Beach Recon 500 headphones worth it?
Retailing at £50-£65, this is an early mid-range price point. Consequently, you don’t expect all the bells and whistles. However, you get a lot of bang for your buck and I wasn’t disappointed. Accordingly, I was extremely impressed by the build quality and its durability. Furthermore, the adjustable headband is strong, flexible, and easy to operate.
Alongside this, the over-ear cups are extremely comfortable and built to last. More importantly, though, is the sound quality and the microphone delivery. Both of these elements excelled, though there were some limitations compared to their high-end peers. At this price, you won’t find better, and therefore, I recommend you to buy them here!

I love it when the development team is as crazy as the games they create. Coffee Stain North is the crew behind the highly anticipated Goat Simulator 3. This fun-loving and eclectic group of like-minded individuals has a wicked sense of humour and an unrivalled passion for the gaming industry. I was fortunate enough to get hands-on with the game and harass the team for a considerable amount of time. As such, we discussed a plethora of subjects, laughed, talked, and laughed some more. However, you don’t want to know that. Instead, you want to know about the wonderful goaty game.
Due to be released on November 17th, 2022, this is exclusive to the Epic Store and next Gen titles only. This will be disappointing news for fans of Steam or those on older consoles. However, no longer will the devs be restricted by dated tech, and the heavy investment from Epic has pushed them towards the finish line.
Which goat will you pick?
What’s new in Goat Simulator 3?
Everyone loved the high-energy madness of the original. However, this time around, the goat is a little slower. Now, this doesn’t reduce the insanity. Instead, it enhances the experience as it’s more manageable. This aside, there are many major changes afoot. The first is a whopping world to explore! You now have a map that is 18 times larger than the first and measures approximately 1.1 million square goatage. I was assured that this was the correct term of measurement, though I’m still a little dubious.
On top of this, there are some incredible custom options. Through crazy goat shenanigans, exploration, and progression, you will unlock skins and earn tokens. This can be spent on more cosmetic gear to make the goat of your dreams. If this doesn’t tickle your fancy, you can now grind rails and wires like Tony Hawks, or steal cars like some goat mobster from Grand Theft Auto. These mechanics were introduced to help traverse the monstrous 1.1 million square goatage map. (Wait a minute, is that even a thing?) This was a phenomenal choice as it retains the goaty charm without relying on jetpacks, teleporters or other unnecessary nonsense*. (* Disclaimer, other unnecessary nonsense is likely to be included.)
Finally, multiplayer goat action!
You screamed, you shouted, and you cried! Thankfully, the devs aren’t monsters, mainly, and they listened. The result? Multiplayer goat action! With the ability to invite three like-minded goat friends to your world, you can complete quests, enter mini-games, and be goat assholes together. There is one caveat, however, and that is no random player may enter your goat paradise. Yes, you read that correctly. Goat Simulator 3 doesn’t allow promiscuous meetings with random goat enthusiasts. Therefore, you’ll have to convince your friends to buy a copy of the game or King of the Hill, The Floor is Lava, and the 5 other mini-games will never be experienced.
What were they smoking?
Goat Simulator 3 is so crazy that it is a must-have title.
I rarely consider niche games as must-have experiences. Normally, they try too hard and they lose their way. However, Goat Simulator 3 is different. It stamps its personality on every element and you know what you’ll get. At times, it is ruthless, unfair, and infuriating. Yet you’ll still laugh, as it’s undeniably insane, immature, and childish. I adored my limited time with it and can’t wait to cover it fully in the near future. I know that the action and story will be full of surprises, but one thing that is guaranteed is that it’ll be a toy box of fun with minimal restrictions. If this takes your fancy, preorders can be found here; Epic Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Why not prepare to get your goat on by looking up more information here?
I rarely encounter innovative gaming experiences. With many titles following tried and tested mechanics, there is a distinct lack of originality. Recently, the most eye-opening games have been A Way Out and It Takes Two. These games tested how we worked together and pushed their player base to think outside the box. As such, whenever I find a developer who tries to be innovative, I sit up and take notice. Unknown Number: A First Person Talker does just that with its incredibly unique core mechanics. What’s more, it has an enthralling story and some excellent acting all wrapped up in a simple approach.
Developed and published by Godolphin Games, this is a voice-controlled adventure puzzle title. Furthermore, there are some minor story branches that impact how the game plays out. Alongside this, you’ll experience an uneasy plot that twists and turns and leaves you feeling uncomfortable. Developer Thomas Keane has taken influence from some unusual and experimental titles. With an eclectic blend of themes, he points to Her Story, Kind Words (Lo Fi Chill Beats to Write to), and Before your Eyes as a source of inspiration. However, it is fair to say that his creation stands alone in both its presentation and its core mechanics.
Do you know Morse code?
Unknown Number grabs your attention immediately.
When a game is pushing the envelope, I worry that it’ll lose its way. Somehow, Unknown Number retains its creepy charm while immediately grabbing your attention. With an almost episodic approach, you tackle the story in bite-sized chunks, and this was phenomenal. With so much going on and plenty of cryptic puzzles to solve, it could have been overbearing. However, the slow-paced delivery, combined with the energetic and dramatic plot, ensures that you are never out of your depth.
You are an innocent bystander who inadvertently becomes embroiled in a dangerous plot to take down an oil giant. An innocuous phone call uncovers a secret plan to steal valuable assets from a company known as Sligoil. However, the party behind the call soon realise that you were not their intended recipient. Yet, desperate for help, they drag you into their seedy affair in order to solve puzzles and open each of the 7 vaults that stand in their way. Without you, Ethan Hammer and Amanda Reid will fail in their mission. Accordingly, you must decide whether to join forces with these eco-warrior criminals or abide by the Met police’s advice and give up your newfound friends. Whatever you decide, the consequences will be deep-seated and the ramifications will rumble on for years.
How long until this board turn on you?
Action, puzzles, and a mobile phone.
The story sounds incredibly exciting, but the mechanics are slow, methodical, and deliberate. As such, the narration and the problem-solving wonderfully juxtapose each other. Accordingly, it takes a bit of getting used to, especially when the shit hits the fan. Unknown Number’s key principle revolves around its voice-controlled experience. During every puzzle and most phone calls, you are expected to answer clearly and concisely. Now, this is a fantastic twist on normal puzzle titles. Instead of giving you mountains of time to resolve the issue, you must think fast and deliver a solution to keep the protagonists alive.
You are expected to move guards by hacking into a PA system, crack unusual codes to unlock doors, solve chemical formulas, relay Morse code, and much, much more. Alongside this, you must decipher a range of mind-boggling cryptic clues as a timer ticks down and orders are barked over the phone. Consequently, there is an uncomfortable pressure that pushes you during every chapter. Now, this isn’t a complaint, as it works perfectly with the drama and the flow of the story.
Alongside this, your imagination runs wild as you only hear selected portions of audio. Subsequently, you must fill in the blanks and interpret many segments of the story. This was particularly great, especially when the police phone calls cast shadows over the legitimacy of what you are trying to achieve. Consequently, the plot is a mystery right up until the finale, and this makes it gripping, exciting, and tough to put down.
Move the guards and open the vaults.
Grab a notepad and speak clearly.
There are many brilliant elements, but two areas that may frustrate you are note-taking and the lack of an alternative input method. In order to complete Unknown Number, you must have a pen and paper handy. This shouldn’t be a problem, and in fact, I enjoyed the note-taking and problem-solving moments. However, a lack of an in-game journal or notebook was a mistake. It would have been helpful to be able to pin key information on the main screen and it would have saved paper at the same time.
The second issue won’t impact everyone, and I know the game’s USP is its voice-controlled approach. Yet, gamers who have no microphone, or those who have speech impairments, cannot play this amazing title. Therefore, I would like to see an alternative input method incorporated as a backup. If this was included, it would make it a more versatile game that manages to retain its dark and creepy charms.
Unknown Number is incredibly atmospheric.
I was amazed that a simple graphical approach could be so atmospheric. Most of the action focuses on a rudimentary touch screen phone and an animated robotic logo. Alongside this, there is a dated and charming internet search browser that’ll remind you of the 90s. Furthermore, the environment has a futuristic edge thanks to the rich colour palette and cold imagery. During each chapter, you are introduced to different backdrops that help to set the scene. This straightforward visual trigger changes the dynamic of each segment while adding variety throughout.
Though the visuals were great, the audio was better, still. The blend of incredible sound effects, cold and callous automated messages, and brilliant acting sucks you into this dangerous world. Furthermore, you soon empathise with Ethan and Amanda as their passion and drive outweigh their criminal approach. I adored the everyday sound effects and danger associated with every alarm, warning message, and oppressive voicemail.
Use the map to navigate the rig.
Tick, tick, tick goes the timer.
When much of the action focuses on time-critical tasks, you’ll be focused on the ticking timer. Fortunately, this simple element was easy to understand and a cinch to follow. Further to this, the other basic controls worked well and were responsive. As long as you were patient with each cryptic clue, the delivery of a solution was neither difficult nor was it taxing to execute.
Unfortunately, Unknown Number isn’t the longest game I’ve played. But what you experience is enjoyable, touching, and memorable. On top of this, its £11.99 price point is great value when you consider the unique core mechanic. To complete the game and experience everything on offer, you’ll need to invest approximately 4 to 5 hours. As such, there is ample gameplay for the price.
Unknown Number is an innovative title.
Unknown Number immediately grabbed my attention! Its amazing voice-controlled mechanics are so unusual that I admired the developer’s original mindset and bravery. This unique approach must be applauded, and it needs to be tried to be appreciated. However, I shouldn’t overlook the incredible puzzles and awe-inspiring audio that deliver the amazing and touching plot. Accordingly, this is one indie title that sets the bar extremely high. Undoubtedly I fell for its charms and therefore I can easily recommend you to buy it here! Will you be able to solve every problem and help out your new friends? Note down the clues, crack the puzzles, and decide which side you are on.
I’m of an age that remembers the dawn of VR gaming. Consequently, my mindset has been tarnished by janky and sick-inducing experiences. Even recently, the market hadn’t evolved enough to convince me to change my mind. However, a 15 to 20-minute demo at EGX 2022 of Peaky Blinders – The King’s Ransom VR has opened my eyes.
Developed and published by Maze Theory. This is an interactive and immersive gaming experience. It takes you on a wild adventure through some incredible locations as you delve into the Peaky Blinders world. Fans of the series with cherish the chance to step inside the grim mobster environment. Yet, if you’ve never watched the TV series, it matters not. Why? Well, the developers have created a unique tale that sits somewhere between series 4 and 5. As such, no prior knowledge is required.
What is so good about Peaky Blinders – The King’s Ransom VR?
Powered by an Oculus headset, this game should have been limited in what it could do. Instead, the developers created a masterful world with some fantastic locations to explore. Without spoiling it for you, you’ll be dumbstruck by the levels of detail and the oppressive nature of your surroundings.
On top of this, there’s a chance to interact with some key characters. This was phenomenal, as it added a little spice to the fantastic story. Also, why wouldn’t you want to converse with and impress Tommy Shelby?
Game mechanics.
The story and environment were mighty impressive, but the game mechanics were mind-blowing. The accuracy of your actions and the fluid nature of the combat elements transport you inside the game. Then there are the minor details which add to the quality. Your gloved hands and pistol are both era-specific and look fantastic. Alongside this, there are many time-consuming events to become engrossed in.
This aside, the team wants their player base to explore the seedy and nasty world. Consequently, they’ve hidden collectables and Easter eggs in each scene. What’s more, there are items that can only be accessed after you’ve returned to a specific location. This highlights the desire to enhance longevity and increase the replay value.
Peaky Blinders – The King’s Ransom VR should be on your radar.
Though I’ve alluded to some key areas, there is much, much more to see and do in this game. Subsequently, Peaky Blinders – The King’s Ransom VR is one title that should be on your radar. Yes, fans of the series will relate to the action more than others, but this doesn’t detract from its brilliance. I, for one, can’t wait to see how it evolves in the coming months. Final Thoughts
Setting up the Pad 8 was simple, switch it on, follow the usual steps of picking your country and wi-fi network and then just wait. The whole process took less than 5 minutes. Once the installation has finished there is an optional configuration you can go through, or if you are familiar with Android you can just go ahead and set the Pad 8 just how you would like it.
A quick check also revealed a new Magic UI update, which completed very quickly. The Magic UI is based on Android 12 so any existing Android user will be very familiar with the UI.
The Pad 8 is quite thin and the screen is larger, however the quality isn’t the best we’ve ever seen.
The front and rear cameras work well, but again they are not the highest quality on the market – both front and rear are 5MP cameras), but again, you get what you pay for and they work well enough.
Battery life is good – we managed to get around 10 or so hours of use out of it, more if we turned down the brightness, but for most people 10 hours is probably more than enough.
There is no 3.5mm headphone socket on the Pad 8, if you want to use headphones then they have to be Bluetooth. Setting up Bluetooth headphones was easy enough though.
The sound is really good on the Pad 8 – there are 8 speakers that work very well.
Overall the Pad 8 feels a little underpowered, although depending on what you want to use it for, its a good price for a good tablet.
The HONOR Pad 8 is available now in Blue Hour priced around £269.99.

Final Thoughts
The Nano Facial Steamer is very easy to use – just fill the water tank and switch on. Wait about a minute or so for the steam to start coming out then move your face over the steam.
The steamer will continue to produce steam for about 15 minutes when the tank is full, and the steam will gradually decrease as the water level decreases. The optimal usage time is between 5 and 10 minutes 2 or 3 times a week.
The steamer has a handle to make it easier to carry but also a mirrored surface so you can see your face.

I’ve tried and tested many mobile gaming accessories. Consequently, I have a fair amount of expertise in this field. However, every day is a school day and I find new and exciting products all the time. The latest one to hit my desk is the Gamesir X2 Pro. This officially licensed Xbox accessory is up there with the best on offer.
Nacon, Backbone, Riot, and Razer all make phenomenal goods. Accordingly, it is tough for me to pick a market leader. In fact, recently, I covered another great Gamesir controller, the Gamesir X3. I loved its cooling fan, its comfortable set-up, and its style. Yet, I think the Gamesir X2 Pro offers a little more than its counterpart.
Thanks to its additional mappable buttons, free Game Pass code, and responsive controls, it makes mobile gaming an absolute pleasure. On top of this, it has pass-through charging as standard and feels and acts like an official Microsoft accessory. As such, if you love to game on the move, this could be the device for you.
Black or white?
What’s in the box of the Gamesir X2 Pro?
The external packaging is robust and colourful and screams Xbox. It is adorned with every key selling point. Furthermore, it is fully recyclable, and that’s great to see.
The Gamesir X2 Pro is housed within a textile carry case. This handy case is hard-wearing, water resistant, and looks stylish. The device is made from blackened plastic and has a sturdy expandable mobile phone holder. There is a USB-C connection port, and the buttons are consistent with traditional gaming controllers.
Additional bits. You may wish to change the feel of the analogue sticks. Well, you can with the concave and convex thumbstick caps. Simply slide them on and enjoy your new style.
User manual and stickers. Understand the fundamentals with the basic user guide. Alongside this, you can show your love of Gamesir with a colourful logo sticker.
Eye catching packaging. The textile case. The thumbstick covers. Stickers and the user guide. The Gamesir X2 Pro. Connect to Game Pass and get gaming. The complete package.
Technical aspects.
One of my favourite qualities about the Gamesir X2 Pro is its custom options. With easy-to-map rear buttons, you can play like a pro. However, if this doesn’t take your fancy, you can remap the main buttons using the handy and free-to-download Gamesir app.
This fantastic application connects automatically to your controller and identifies a range of games available. What’s more, it shows which service they belong to, and how you can play them. Moreover, with your permission, it’ll automatically boot your gaming-specific apps to act as an entertainment hub for your phone.
Build quality.
Whenever you are gaming for extended periods, you need a comfortable device. Luckily, the textured grips and lightweight nature do just that. Consequently, it is no different from gaming with a traditional controller. On top of this, the additional thumbstick caps allow you to personalise your experience. Though this is a minor thing, I appreciated the flexibility and extra comfort.
Like its peers, The Gamesir X2 Pro can house most mobile phones. With a range of 110 to 179mm, many models are compatible. The same can be said for the pass-through charging facility. This fantastic piece of tech keeps you gaming and your mobile device charged. I adore any controller that includes this option and scowl when it is missing.
It is compatible with many games.
Robust and responsive.
The device feels robust, and I liked the smooth and reassuring mobile clip. Alongside this, it has a handy one-press capture button as well as other elements we’ve all come accustomed to. As such, it is a familiar beast to use and excellent for anyone who loves to post their gaming victories.
Finally, gaming is all about the finer details. Fortunately, the Gamesir X2 Pro has a low latency connection as well as responsive inputs. Because of its Hall Effect analogue triggers, you’ll experience buttery smooth movement and unprecedented control. Moreover, the Alps 3D analogue sticks are precise and help you to compete with the best. This is then supported by the Kalih Microswitch bumpers. With a minute actuation distance of 0.6mm you’ll enjoy responsive and tactile feedback. In short, it gives you an elite setup at a fraction of the cost.
Use the app to customise the controller.
Is the Gamesir X2 Pro worth it?
The market is saturated with mobile gaming accessories. This torrent of devices will not stop as long as cloud gaming expands. Subsequently, picking the right device is hard. I’ve recommended many great peripherals and I stand by my words. However, I love an officially endorsed device. I find those words to be reassuring, and that’s a massive plus point.
Yet, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the product will be worth it. But, luckily, the Gamesir X2 Pro absolutely is. Thanks to its amazing build quality, easy-to-use app, pass-through charging, and user-friendly approach, I can’t fault it. Furthermore, it is also cost-effective, and it has a handy carry case to keep it safe. It is for these reasons that I recommend you buy it here!
