The Ring Battery Doorbell Plus is really easy to set up – just decide where you want to put it, place the bracket (if required) on the wall or door frame and then follow the installation steps in the Ring app, and within a couple of minutes it will be ready to use.
The image and sound quality is excellent and works really well even at night. You can of course turn off sound if you just want picture and you can set up privacy zones if you only want to capture a certain area.
You use your phone (or tablet, or other device) to receive notifications of someone at the door, or to see who is at the door, but if you combine it with a Ring Chime Pro you can also receive audio notifications (like an old fashioned doorbell).
The box also includes a 30 day trial to Ring Protect so you can see what it can offer you and then you can decide if you want to sign up for a subscription and gain all the extra benefits. Technical aspects.
Gaming mice come in all shapes and sizes. Some look exceptionally complicated and this can be off-putting. However, the GXT 100 Felox Wireless Mouse has a stripped-back design that is straightforward to master. Additionally, the DPI setting can be changed with ease. Ranging between 800 and 4800, this peripheral is excellent no matter the genre. Furthermore, if you make an error, you simply press the central button and readjust your settings accordingly.

This affordable speaker may not be as advanced as its Amazon counterparts. However, I was impressed by its punchy audio, accurate voice recognition, and ease of use. Moreover, the ability to wall mount it made it perfect for smaller spaces. On top of this, if you don’t wish to interact with the Alexa voice control, you don’t have to. Accordingly, you are free to use the speaker however you wish.
The fantastic 49.5 mm front speaker delivers an impressive range of tones and bass. What’s more, the sound is never distorted no matter the volume. As such, this was an impressive result of a tiny and inexpensive device.
Alongside this, your security and privacy are paramount. With built-in layers of security and the ability to electronically disconnect the microphone, you feel reassured. Furthermore, thanks to the RGB light bar, you know when Alexa is activated. As such, you needn’t worry about checking your settings.
Smart home.
If you use the Alexa app, you’ll know how intuitive it is. However, if you are new to this, you’ll discover a world of intertwined devices. Accordingly, your home soon becomes a modern, tech-filled environment. Furthermore, you can adjust your lighting, plugs, thermostats, and more with your voice. This tiny speaker is impressively light but well-built. I adored its recycled nature and the fantastic mesh speaker cover. However, once you know what you are looking at, it is a piece of cake to use.
The hardened plastic looks refined and professional. Yet, this can be altered by purchasing a silicone case. These colourful accessories make the Echo Pop stand out from the crowd. Additionally, they add a layer of protection and make the speaker easier to clean.
Is the Echo Pop worth it?
Compared to its high-end counterparts, the Echo Pop is understated. However, I adored its straightforward approach and its refined style. Moreover, it wonderfully complements your existing Amazon tech. As such, I loved it and I recommend that you buy it here!
I played a variety of video games growing up, but if I were to pinpoint a few influential ones, on that list would be the Dynasty Warriors games from Koei and Omega Force. Over the top, ridiculous action combined with a loose interpretation of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong. I was hooked. Now, don’t get me wrong, those games are not what you’d call critically acclaimed, nor are they particularly good action titles but they are popular enough to have spawned their own sub-genre so there’s something to be said for their wider appeal.
Guan Yu, Xiahou Dun, Lu Bu and more were as famous to me as any household name now or then. To the point where I even stole Guan Yu’s character for a creative writing piece in Year 9 English.
So anything adapting their stories is always something that turns my head whether it be video games or any other medium (except for you Dynasty Warriors 9). So a turn-based card battler/rougelike telling those old tales should be a slam dunk for me, right? Well yes and no.
Let’s start with the setting. The Romance of the Three Kingdoms covers a period of Chinese history starting with the fall of the Han dynasty in 184 AD and going all the way up to the reunification of China in 280 AD by the Jin dynasty. If that’s all gobbledegook to you, no worries, basically imagine 100 years of war, intrigue, and strife and you won’t be far off.
Now through this era, the land is in constant chaos, eventually culminating in the titular Three Kingdoms being established named Shu, Wu, and Wei. These kingdoms skirmish for decades only falling apart when those who began the war are succeeded by those who no longer have the same zeal for battle as their predecessors. This is what allows Jin to emerge from within Wei and unite the land. That’s an oversimplified version that I’m sure many historians would take umbrage with, but it suits our purposes here.
It’s an era of history that has inspired a number of adaptations. From the aforementioned Dynasty Warriors games to movies (specifically Red Cliff, check it out if you don’t mind foreign language films), and novels, not even counting Luo Guanzhong’s prestigious text.
Three Kingdom The Journey is merely the latest to be added to an already impressive list.
Does it do justice to the story whilst setting itself apart from those who came before?
Kind of?
The art style is very colourful and stylised but does remind me a little too much of a mobile game. Maybe that’s what they were going for, but the cartoony visuals don’t do much to convey the savage butchery that took place during The Yellow Turban Rebellion (named the Yellow Scarf Rebellion here, I’m not enough of an expert to tell you which is right). In fact, the whole aesthetic, whilst visually pleasing is a little childish, especially when the characters are spouting big ideas about life, liberty, and all that good stuff.
To be fair, if my offices were on fire I wouldn’t hang about either.
The gameplay loop seems fairly simple. Each level has a boss battle that you must reach by completing a series of smaller skirmishes. Each stage has three choices of location, allowing you to build up your resources and stack your deck in a way that suits your playstyle. This part is well implemented, I felt as though I had a decent amount of agency in my deck build, something essential in any card game.
Combat is also fairly simple for anyone who has played a card battler before. Each turn you have a select amount of command points to use up, different cards cost different amounts so you must be careful with how you use them. Make your attacks, stack your defences, and end your turn, allowing your opponent to make their next move. During my time with the game I never really had any issue with any bosses but there are several difficulty levels you can unlock after playing the game for a while.
The only issue I have with this is that it becomes incredibly repetitive, hence my comparison to a mobile game. I was a little shocked that there wasn’t an energy system, only allowing me a certain number of battles before I’d need to wait or purchase more with actual cash.
And that encapsulates what I feel about this game. The aesthetic is nice but doesn’t suit its source material. The combat is clean and simple but doesn’t have a lot of depth. The story is one of my favourites, but they spend next to no time on it. All in all, it just feels like they created a half-decent mobile game but couldn’t successfully monetise it so decided to make it a PC release instead.
If all you’re after is a fairly mindless little tactical card battler/rougelike then this does the job, but there are other games in this genre that do it better, and if you come here looking for classic Three Kingdoms stories, there are others that do that better too. Also I’ve no idea why it doesn’t pluralise Kingdom in the game’s title. Drove me insane.

How To Play
Set up the game board, give each player a set of answer tokens and place the playing pieces on the board. Shuffle the question cards and place them on the table.
Each player is dealt 2 bonus question cards and asks the player to their left to choose which of the two categories they want as their bonus round questions.
All players answer standard questions and move up the board one space for every correct answer given. Answer incorrectly, and you must stay where you are!

In my experience of reviewing, I find visual novels to be the hardest to review. In the case of Pechka, there is no gameplay to review, just a story. However, since this is a game review, I will be reviewing it as a game rather than a story. Pechka, developed and published by Growing Seeds, is a visual novel game with an engaging narrative, fantastic visual themes, and an immersive soundtrack. Unfortunately, due to its narrative focus, it suffers from a lack of gameplay. It also suffers from awful pacing thanks to its episode format.
War never changes
Pechka’s has a very gripping narrative, however, to avoid spoiling the game, I will be as vague as possible. This story follows a young man named Pyotr. Pyotr has lived a very troubled life in three separate countries. However, he considers none of them his homeland. As such, he must carefully navigate his way through a war between the three countries. The story is very well written, and for the most part, I was entertained throughout my time with this title. Furthermore, it takes inspiration from historical events and even features people from historical events adding to the immersion of the story.
While the narrative is solid, the pacing of said narrative is awful. This is most likely due to the way the game was originally released. The game features both episodes and chapters, where episodes would come out once every week until the game was eventually completed. Due to this, the game’s story rarely feels like it’s advancing, leading to an overall long plot. While it is still entertaining, I often felt fatigued getting through all the mindless dialogue. Overall, The story is great, however, the pacing of the story is quite poor.

Choices
As stated earlier, Pechka has very little in terms of gameplay. You will move to the designated area and talk to the correct person to advance the story. Sometimes you will be given dialogue options, which impact the ending of the game. You can affect your bond with each character to get a different ending through these dialogue options. Furthering this, these options happen fairly infrequently, so the amount of gameplay on offer is minimal. This hurts the game a lot as it makes the long stretches of mindless dialogue even more draining. Furthermore, a lot of important decisions within the game are made for the player. There were multiple points in the game where there could have been interesting branching story paths, however, they fail to take that opportunity, which is disappointing.
Black and White
Pechka’s visual themes are fantastic. It uses a black-and-white color scheme throughout the story. This works well with the story’s theme, which is the horrors of war. Furthermore, characters important to Pyotr are given a little bit of color, to show the player that these characters are important to both the story and Pyotr, as they are his light in the darkness. Despite the simple design the character models and faces are very expressive, which makes for fantastic emotional moments in the story. I found myself very immersed in the game world thanks to its graphical style.
Pechka’s soundtrack was also fantastic. The atmospheric soundtrack makes you feel what Pyotr is feeling at the moment. Even the lack of music is used to give the player the feeling that something is off. Unfortunately, while the music does a great job of setting the tone, it can be very repetitive at times. Especially since the same tracks are used throughout the whole game. Pechka could have used some more songs or some unique themes for the characters. Overall, the soundtrack is still great, as is the visuals.

Pechka is a hard game to recommend. If you are looking for a great story, with an immersive soundtrack and great visual themes, then Pechka has you covered. However, if you are looking for a visual novel game with plenty of story-impacting choices, or any gameplay at all, you would be better off looking elsewhere. Techno Banter was a game that I enjoyed whilst at Develop Brighton. This Early Access preview gave me a glimpse into a seedy yet humorous world. Furthermore, this grim environment was full of danger, snappy one-liners, and plenty of game-changing decisions. Accordingly, this title can be as simple or as complex as you like it to be.
Developed by Dexai Arts and published by Crunching Koalas, this is a techno-infused adventure title. Moreover, it tests your witty nature and ability to read between the lines. As such, you may make mistakes as you try to complete your job as a bouncer at a weird nightclub.
Will you let this hunky panda in?
Techno Banter is dark yet funny.
Helping out as a bouncer at your local nightclub was never meant to be easy. However, things are made worse when you have to deal with anthropomorphic denizens. These seedy individuals will stop at nothing to party the night away in the coolest venue in town. Yet, it is your responsibility to keep the riff-raff out whilst improving the “coolness” of the night ahead.
This task isn’t for the faint of heart, as you are tested almost immediately. Your amphibian boss gives you a list of demands and you must try to match the clientele accordingly. By asking an array of open questions, you’ll discover what makes each would-be partygoer tick. Consequently, if they match the requirements, you can let them in. But, if they are bad for business, then you must refuse them entry. Normally, your potential clients don’t take refusal lying down, and this is where the fun begins.
Banter and one-liners.
No one likes to be scorned. Subsequently, whenever anyone is refused access to the nightclub, they will start an argument. However, you must keep your cool and listen to what they say. Once they finish talking, you must backchat them and throw them off balance. If you successfully overcome their advances, they will be sent packing. Yet, if they get the better of you, they will be allowed to enter the nightclub, and this is bad for business.
Occasionally, you will face some badass individuals that are tough to defeat. When this happens, you must stay calm and stick to the plan. If you fail, your score for the day will be badly impacted, and this will prevent you from upgrading the club and potentially helping those around you.
Talk to the locals and see who wishes to party.

In its current build, the developers focused on the day-to-day running of your job. Yet, there promises to be plenty more to see and do. There will be an array of characters that can be helped and an upgrade system to improve the layout of the club. Furthermore, there will be side quests that can be completed or ignored.
This additional meat on the bone will add to an already impressive-looking title. The never-ending stream of punters and witty comebacks was enough to keep me busy. But I’d love to see if the upgrade system and additional quests impact the atmosphere and the desirable clients you wish to attract.
Techno Banter looks wonderfully seedy.
Techno Banter focuses on a pixelated and grim finish. The seedy nature of the nightclub and rundown neighbourhood leaves a lot to be desired. On top of this, the weird mixture of animals and humans will make you frown. There was nothing stranger than a muscly tiger or a pissed-off rhino. What’s more, the scantly clad ladies of the night add some colour to proceedings.
Talking of colour, Techno Banter is a neon-infused explosion of a game. The bright colours juxtapose the grey and sinister environment. Moreover, the excellent character models were great to look at. Accordingly, the developers cannot be accused of creating a mundane or dull title.
Where this truly excels is its banging soundtrack. Dexai Arts are influenced by the wonderful Berlin Techno dance scene. The phenomenal music is amazing to listen to! I adored the bass-heavy and BPM-enriched songs that play on a loop. Even if you are not a lover of this genre of music, you’ll admire the excellent party atmosphere.

It is easy to play.
Techno Banter is a pleasure to play. Thanks to the simple controller layout and excellent UI, you can focus on your witty comebacks. Additionally, exploring the neighbourhood and upgrading the nightclub was easily achievable. Consequently, I can imagine that the extra tasks will be straightforward once they are incorporated.
I wasn’t able to gauge how long this would take to complete. Moreover, I didn’t get a sense of replay value or longevity. Yet, if the promised additional content is anything to go by, I believe this will keep you busy. What’s more, there is the ability to bum rush the core concept or enjoy every unique avenue. As such, this should draw you in repeatedly.
Techno Banter is unusual but addictive.
This is an edgy and niche title that won’t float everyone’s boat. However, I liked its weird characters, excellent environment, and dark humour. On top of this, the promise of additional content makes it even more moreish. As such, I liked it and I recommend you wishlist it here! The club’s reputation falls on your shoulders. Therefore, you must pick the right clients or pay the price. Listen to their answers, scrutinise their personalities, and humiliate those that don’t make the cut.
Thronefall is a minimalist tower defence game that is addictive as hell! This simple game is surprisingly deep and tough to put down. What’s more, there is a leaderboard to top and many challenges to complete. Accordingly, though it appears understated at first glance, there is much more than first meets the eye.
Developed and published by GrizzlyGames, this is an indie tower defence title with base-building mechanics. What’s more, it requires a tactical mindset if you are to complete every object. As such, this is the perfect endeavour, whether you are a genre newbie or a renowned veteran.
Oh no, they have caused so many problems.
Thronefall has no story!
A deep and rich story isn’t always necessary. However, no story at all is more than a little unusual. Yet, this is exactly what you get when you play Thronefall. For reasons unknown, you are riding around different kingdoms without a guard, army, or any royal entourage. Instead, it is your royal duty to rebuild your castle and protect it at all costs.
As the King, you thrive on power. However, each of your kingdoms is being attacked by random monsters. This alone is bad enough, but if they manage to destroy your castle, your reign is all but over. Consequently, you are required to spend your limited gold supply on new troops, defences, and ways of enhancing your income. If you can do this wisely, you may survive the onslaught and advance to the next arena.
How you survive is your choice!
At the start of each run, you are presented with a range of perks, weapons, and mutations. These elements are key to how easy or difficult each attempt will be. Will you arm yourself with a bow and enhance your combat options, or will you prefer close-quarter combat? Alternatively, will you improve your armour and power, or will you increase your productivity and earning potential? Whatever you decide will alter the course of each playthrough whilst adjusting your tactical mindset.
Alongside this, you can select mutations to make your enemies much tougher. Each of these core concepts is essential, as every one of them must be utilised to complete each stage. Subsequently, you must complete every set objective if you wish to save your kingdom. This is a difficult ask as increasing your enemies’ health and power requires a lot of luck and plenty of planning. Yet, if you get things right, the outcome is both enjoyable and rewarding.
This sandy backdrop is cruel and unforgiving.
Improve your base and start each battle.
Every playthrough comprises a fixed number of battles. Furthermore, each fight takes place after you complete the planning stage. During this peaceful time, you are free to build houses, production lines, barracks, defences, and towers. Each of these items costs money that you earn by defeating your foes and keeping your production buildings and houses safe. As such, the better your defences, the more you can earn, and the more you can invest.
Once you are happy with your base layout, you can move your troops to the highlighted areas of assault. Here you can maximise your defensive duties by placing knights, soldiers, and ranged troops correctly. However, if you make an error, you can alter your troops at any point during the heat of the battle.
In the heat of the battle, your troops are automated. This was a great choice, as you are free to roam the battlefield and slaughter anyone in sight. Furthermore, you can orchestrate your troops to maximise your defensive potential. Yet, if you are killed or your base is destroyed, it is game over and you must start the stage again.
Thronefall looks great.
The isometric viewpoint and vivid colours complement one another. Additionally, the clean sprites and unique backdrops prevent this from becoming tedious. Furthermore, the animation is smooth, and I didn’t experience any performance issues. These elements are supported by the excellent stage design. Every chapter has its own setup, and this kept you on your toes. As such, though the gameplay loop was familiar, the action rarely felt strained or repetitive.
The audio is just as good. The simple but folksy soundtrack suits the rudimentary medieval gameplay. Moreover, the sharp and obnoxious sound effects are harsh, cruel, and brilliantly cold. Subsequently, I adored the blunt bludgeoning of every melee weapon. What’s more, who doesn’t love the twang of a bow as it annihilates its target?
Brrr. It’s a bit chilly.
It runs perfectly on Steam Deck.
I adore a great Steam Deck title. Thankfully, Thronefall plays wonderfully on this platform. Furthermore, it excels on PC as well. Consequently, it mattered not what input method you use; the game is just as easy to pick up and play either way.
Though Thronefall is a short game, it is addictive as hell. Additionally, there is plenty of replay value and longevity because of the different perks, weapons, and mutations. These modifiers alter every element of the gameplay and will keep you on your toes. Alongside this, a friendly leaderboard will test your score against that of your friends.

I was sold by the genre and its Steam Deck validation. There is nothing better than playing a smooth and well-considered tower defence game. Luckily, Thronefall ticks these boxes as you try to protect your kingdom from hellish creatures. I adored the aesthetics and the straightforward action. What’s more, it is tough to put down and can be enjoyed casually. Accordingly, I cherished my time with it and I recommend that you buy it here! Can you save your kingdom? Plan your approach, kill every demonic wave, and save the day.
