This week also saw the release of two new headsets from SteelSeries – the 7H and the Siberia v2, both designed for Apple devices.

This week, SteelSeries, the leading manufacturer of gaming and entertainment peripherals, announced that Siberia v2 and 7H Headsets for iPod, iPhone and iPad are available online and in select retail locations around the globe. Installing SQL 2008 R2 Express with Management Tools on Windows Home Server 2011

If you are one of the millions of users who just use Windows Home Server to remotely access your data, stream Media, and Backup your PC’s then there really is no benefit in installing this particular application. However if your one of those Hobbyist or IT Tinkers who want to get the most out of their Home Server beyond the scope of what it was designed to do then this maybe exactly what you need.

Since this Version’s underlying code is Windows Server 2008 R2 there is just so much that can be done to get some of those Enterprise applications and just make them useful for your family’s or small business’s every day needs for example like WSUS and SharePoint. These programs usually require a Database application server (Which usually comes with a lite version that is a bear to manage) like SQL but under normal circumstances obtaining a professional version to manage these Databases are a bit pricey.

With SQL 2008 R2 Express with Management Tools you can get the power of their Microsoft Full fledge version but on a much smaller scale (Each DB instance has a 10GB limit), the best part it’s free.

Prerequisites

– A Windows Home Server 2011 with at least a Intel Dual Core or equivalent and 3GB’s of system Memory.

– Download the 64 bit installer of the SQL 2008 R2 Express with Management Tools. (The software is free but you will most likely have to register with a Windows Live account). https://www.microsoft.com/betaexperience/pd/SQLEXPDBMT64/enus/

– Remote Desktop or Keyboard, Mouse, and Monitor.

Before You Start

Do a backup of your system drive before you begin the installation just in case the install does not go as planned and the registry somehow gets damaged.

Installation Instructions

1) Double click on the SQL 2008 R2 express installer and wait for it to unpack.

2) Once the SQL 2008 R2 express opens to the Main setup scree click on the 1st choice “New installation or add features to an existing installation”.

How Does $200 Off an HP TouchPad Strike You?

I saw today via an article on Engadget, which linked to ThisIsMyNext and webOSroundup, a Staples in-store promotion, coupled with an HP promotion, that cuts the price by $200.  Wow!

First off, the HP promotion.  HP is knocking $100 off of either 16GB or 32GB models.  In addition, webOSroundup found a Staples coupon for another $100 off, in-store only, and confirmed that they would honor both the HP price cut AND the Staples coupon.  Now, that means HP TouchPad goodness for $399/$299 in Staples this weekend.  Is that low enough for you to try one?

I played with one of these the weekend that they were released in a Best Buy store.  I have to say that webOS was very easy to use and I was able to pick it up and immediately use it.  While not as easy to use as an iPad, it was really a nice piece of hardware, and the browser runs flash.  App count is light, so no iOS fart apps here, but at that price, it might make sense to pick one up.

What do you think?  Is this cheap enough to take a shot with?  I may consult the Family CFO tonight over dinner…

One of small businesses’ most pressing needs and requests is advanced security of their IT infrastructure and, when Windows 7 Professional and Windows SBS 2011 Essentials work together, they offer our customers a cutting edge solution to help safeguard the security of their information and the control of their PC’s.

The Windows 7 Pro Pack is a free add-in designed exclusively for Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials. It is easy to set up and manage, especially with limited IT skills and resources, and was designed to improve and further the interoperability between these two products, thus providing small organizations with a best of class solution for IT security and protection.

Folder redirection is designed to allow users to continue working in the same way saving their data in real time on their client computer, but reduces the risk of data loss by having the most important data on a particular computer automatically redirected, stored and protected on the server (when on the local domain). This way, even if the client computer is lost or suffers critical damage, is it still possible to access the latest set of data on the server when the client has not been backed up recently. Best of all, when users edit local data when away from the network, any small business can ensure that when the PC is back on the local network, updated information is immediately replicated to the server and protected.

Final Thoughts

The A-Frame is really easy to use and I found it very comfortable when using it all its different positions.

It works with both the iPad 1 and iPad 2, and works fine if you have your iPad in a case as well.

This is now a permanent addition to my desktop!

The A-Frame can become marked quiet easily, but this isn’t really anything to worry about.

The A-Frame retails for £39.99 but you can get some great deals if you look around.

The Motorola XT531 will be available starting this month in China. The device will be available in Hong Kong, Taiwan and select countries in Europe and Latin America starting this fall.

Capture and share your memories in crystal clear clarity with its 5-megapixel auto-focus camera with built in flash. With the *Qik Video Connect you can easily create videos and share with friends in real-time. You can also use the Qik app with the front-facing camera for video chatting. Typing text and email messages is faster and easier with the touch-screen keyboard. Plus, with access to leading social media applications users can stay in constant contact with friends and family.
