NETGEAR has launched the REadyNAS 716, a quad-core Xeon-equipped NAS that they claim is the fastest NAS in the world. The 716 runs ReadyNAS OS 6, and addresses what NETGEAR views as the highest-end virtualization and video editing requirements in the market today. In addition, NETGEAR claims that this is the only NAS on the market capable of simultaneous streaming of hi def video content to multilple clients. MSRP will be $4,500 so this is positioned as a premium NAS aimed at the small to medium sized business. Here is the press release:

- The ReadyNAS 700 Series (RN716X) is designed for campus and high performance business environments supporting up to 500 concurrent users. It is a six-bay device and is only offered diskless.
- The ReadyNAS 500 Series (RN516XX) is designed for small to medium-sized business networks supporting up to 250 concurrent users. It is a six-bay device offered as either diskless or populated with drives.
