Notice the status reads Off. Let’s power that puppy up and see how it goes! Select your VM and click on Start in the bottom right hand portion of your screen. Here is what happened on mine:
Whoo hoo! I am running! Double click on your VM to bring up the OS window. Enter language and other preferences and click Next.
Choose Install Now. Windows Server 2012 Essentials will now install. When prompted for a license key, use M4YNK-GV7CR-GPDCP-4KKJX-2YPP2 and choose Next.
Click on Custom Install and click Next. The traditional Windows installation screens appear.
After a few reboots, I chose Clean Install as I do not have an existing Windows domain.
I named the domain and retained the default server name. Next, I established an admin account and a user account.
Next, select whether you want the server to check for updates. I chose Use recommended settings to ensure that updates are applied. After a few reboots, the following progress window appeared:
Once it completes the process, you are done! Congratulations! You are now running Windows Server 2012 Essentials Beta inside Hyper-V in Windows 8!
If you’ve used WHS2011, you’ll be very comfortable inside Windows Server 2012 Essentials Beta….the dashboard looks very similar, and the desktop is now a Windows 8 desktop with live tiles.
