Unplug unit.

Wedge Craftsman screwdriver in rounded edge. Be careful not to scratch the screwdriver.
Pry it apart about 1/2 inch. Repeat on the other side.
.
Slide case off. It is tricky but it will come off. Remember Prom?
.
Press the drive out of the frame. Be careful not to jack up the plastic.
.
Unscrew the circuit board and save parts for later.

Physical Drive Size
It is the same size as every other SATA drive out there but it is not as heavy as you would think. The new Advanced format technology allows for more data on the platters.
These are three of my test drives. The 320GB Seagate Barracuda , 300GB WD VelociRaptor and the 3TB Caviar Green drive. They all do the same thing at just different speeds. 7200, 10,000 and 5400 RPMs respectively.

My 600T UEFI Test System
Michael Martis and I built this system over the Halloween weekend and I have been using it to test UEFI ever since. It will end up in the living room as my main HTPC when I am done.
- Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q8200 – $99
- Intel DP43BF Motherboard – $85
- Corsair 600T Case – $160
- Corsair H50 Liquid Cooler – $65
- XMS3 Dual Channel Memory – $40
- Corsair 400W PSU – $20
- Western Digital VelociRaptor WD3000HLFS 300GB – $140
- GTS 450 – $99
- Misc cables, USB 3.0, DVD and Blu-ray – $90
The whole build cost me $798. Not too bad. The 3TB drive is eventually going into my WHS so it is not included in the build cost.

Notice the internal USB 3.0 card above the GTS450 in the picture below? No USB 3.0 headers on most mobos yet so if you have a case with a USB 3.0 port you need to connect it inside the case with a PCI-E card. Get one with an internal port!

I managed to install UEFI Windows 7 on my Intel DG41WV Motherboard by following the steps above, the only difference was that i managed to install it with an internal SATA DVD drive.
I popped the disc into the drive, rebooted the PC and at the boot menu it showed me
internal uefi shell : (name of my DVD drive).
It seems that the BIOS scanned the disc for the efi file. When the disc was not inside, there was no such option. Just a tip to those who don’t have a spare external usb dvd drive around.
Thanks for this tutorial, I manage to install the Windows 7 Prof as downgrade of Windows 8. Only the BIOS settings have to be change in order to boot to a UEFI Downgrade of Windows 7.
very detail and easy to read tutorial! I think i have more understanding on how to do that after reading this. I will try this out. Thank you!
