The drive bays are very simple to use, and are a bit like the drive bays on the HP MediaSmart servers.

Just one little click releases the handle, pull that down, slide the bay out, clip the drive in and slide it back into place – very simple, and no fuss whatsoever.

WHATS IN THE BOX?

The box contains the SQA-5H (pre-loaded with an SSM in slot 1), a power supply, short Ethernet cable and a media pack.

This Media Pack contains the initial setup DVD, Connector software and Server Recovery DVD, along with a silver credit card looking object, which is in fact a USB key used for Server Recovery – but more on that in a moment. The initial setup DVD also contains instructions and manuals for setting up the SQA-5H.

INSTALLING AND CONFIGURING

Taking it all out of the box and plugging it together is simple and within a few minutes you can be up and running. Just pop the server initialisation DVD in and follow the instructions.

There is no additional configuration required for the SSM part.

  1. Good review. I just bought one of these and have high hopes. Initial thoughts:

+no need to leave my pc running for torrents etc

+works nicely with the Xtreamer that came with it

    but

-can't get my laptop to backup to it (keeps telling me to try chkdsk)

-steelvine monitor just refuses to detect the server

-it has a fan! Not too loud but louder than nothing.

    • Hi Mario

What OS is your laptop running?

have you run chkdsk on your laptop?

I had a problem with Steelvine, turned out to be a firewall problem and ports needed to be opened (check the "manual" that came with it).

And yes, it has a fan – the bottom picture on page 1 shows the fan. It needs a fan to protect the disks.

      Andrew
