THE SAFE SERVER MODULE (SSM)
As mentioned earlier, the Safe Server Module comes preinstalled into slot 1 of the SQA-5H-SAFE, and there is nothing else you need to do to get it functioning.
If you want to read more about the SSM, click here.
There is also some software called the SSM monitor that you will need to install on your computer in order to monitor the SSM (yes, I know that sounds obvious).
The instructions that came with the SQA-5H-SAFE and the SSM were not very clear, but I have spoken with Tranquil and worked with them over the weekend and the next set should be a lot clearer.
The software itself is located in the Tranquil SSM folder in the Software share of your Windows Home Server. The first thing you need to do is to copy the folder to your desktop and run it from there – if you try to run it from the share, as per the instructions, it just doesn’t work.
When you first run the software, which appears in your software list as SteelVine Manager, there isn’t much to see.
So the first thing you need to do is to connect the software to your Windows Home Server by changing the connection information from localhost to the name of your Windows Home Server.
Once the connection has been made you can see information on the SSM.
One of the options you have is to have the software email you status reports. This is a good idea, but again, this is where the original instructions missed a step – the password!![]()

Excellent review Andrew, Tranquil is tops in my book. They have a nice line of servers and are consistantly improving. The ultimate box is RS5 with SAFE

Good review. I just bought one of these and have high hopes. Initial thoughts:
+no need to leave my pc running for torrents etc
+works nicely with the Xtreamer that came with it
but
-can't get my laptop to backup to it (keeps telling me to try chkdsk)
-steelvine monitor just refuses to detect the server
-it has a fan! Not too loud but louder than nothing.
Hi Mario
What OS is your laptop running?
have you run chkdsk on your laptop?
I had a problem with Steelvine, turned out to be a firewall problem and ports needed to be opened (check the "manual" that came with it).
And yes, it has a fan – the bottom picture on page 1 shows the fan. It needs a fan to protect the disks.
