New PS4 update 3.50 coming tomorrow 2nd March

0

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) today revealed the features included in the beta for the next major system software update 3.50, codenamed MUSASHI, for PlayStation 4.

As part of the beta phase, players can schedule gameplay events with friends directly through their console. Players can also receive specific notifications as selected friends appear online.

Heading the list of features is full support for PS4 players to set-up and arrange gameplay events in console as well as via PlayStation App (PS App), making it easier for like-minded gamers and friends to arrange gameplay together. The feature gives event hosts the ability to edit events after they’ve been scheduled, with invited friends and community members notified of any changes.

ps4_thumb.jpg

In addition, players can now be notified as friends come online, bringing more visibility to when friends are available to play and inspiring more immediate interaction between gamers. This much-requested feature allows gamers to tailor notifications for individual friends, meaning it can be activated for a select group of close-friends, rather than the entire friends list.

Whilst playing together is at the heart of the beta, the trial also brings functionality and improvements for those wishing to enjoy an uninterrupted experience on PS4. The ability to appear offline is included to allow gamers full immersion in their play experience, whilst still offering them the full suite of PS4 features.

In this new PS4 update, Sony have made it easier to connect and play together with friends and the wider community, as well as introducing some much requested features:

  • Remote Play (PC/Mac) – We’re bringing PS4 Remote Play to Windows PC and Mac. This feature won’t be available to test in the beta, but you can look forward to it soon.
  • PlayStation Plus – A new option in the PlayStation Plus destination will allow you to easily check and manage your online storage
  • Dailymotion, New service partners in Share feature – Dailymotion, an additional live streaming service, will become available for PS4 users to enhance their broadcast experience. Like other live streaming services available on PS4, users will enjoy the following features: Activity Feed, What’s New Broadcast Info Tile, Live Detail and Live from PlayStation.

All of these features are currently being trialed as part of the beta by community members who chose to sign up when PlayStation invited players via the PS Blog. The final features list will be revealed when the system software update goes live.

Review: Project X Zone 2

0

Project X Zone 2 Review

Project X Zone 2 takes place a short while after the last game where we are introduced to our two new starter heroes. Reiji Arisu and Xiamou who are both part of the Shinra, a special unit directly affiliated with the government and created to deal with supernatural phenomena, monsters and such. After we discover that Ouma, an organisation that Shinra has stopped several times in the past is causing problems, Reiji and Xiamou make it their mission to stop them and along the way, come across more than a few familiar faces.

The story progresses in stages where you have characters conversing about a subject, enemies appear and then those who were initially against each other will team up, for example; Heihachi, Kazuya and Jin, the very dysfunctional Mishima family. Once the map is cleared of enemies, you are given time to save, buy items such as health and weapons from the shop, and make any customisations to the characters you have.

JINKAZUYA_1428657561

It’s a game where it basically puts together characters from different games and tries to tie them all together to make one universe that makes complete sense. You can expect characters from big franchises such as Capcom’s Resident Evil, Street Fighter and Mega man; Nintendo’s Fire Emblem and Xenoblade Chronicles; Bandai Namco’s Tekken and Tales of Vesperia or Sega’s Space Channel 5, Shenmue and Shinobi series making for one diverse cast of personalities. There are even more than those I’ve mentioned, some which you will see during the opening intro and some you will come across as you play the game.

The gameplay is turn based and consists of you strategically taking down the opposing force as efficiently as possible. Each character has their own strengths and these can be further customised in the main menu with items collected during the story. Some characters differ not only in their customisations, but also how much area they can cover in one turn. In most cases, you can attack the enemy from a reasonable distance, however for some you need to get up close before initiating an attack. Another interesting mechanic is being able to team up to create stronger attacks and this is done by attacking an enemy with a team mate close by. What this allows you to do is call on that team mate during the attack phase to squeeze out that extra damage, something I found very useful; especially when going up against those with a high amount of HP.

Depending on who you are controlling, you have a couple of options when it comes to advancing on the enemy. In regular RPG’s, attacking  from behind will always cause the most damage and if you can do it, definitely go for it however watch out for it yourself.

I never got the chance to play the previous game, however after playing Project X Zone 2; I’m actually upset at myself for having missed it. I enjoy games that make me want to think and this has that in bundles. Luckily the events they mention from other games I’ve actually played, so it was pretty cool to see how the other characters fitted together into that one universe. One thing I will mention is that it didn’t feel seem too difficult to out think the enemy and in most cases I would just need to split the team apart and bring it back together to take down the boss.

If you like the idea of having some of your favourite characters, fighting and talking to each other; something that would never usually happen, then yes Project X Zone 2 is for you. As far as this game is concerned, it is one shared universe. If you enjoy turn based combat on top of that, well what are you waiting for?

Anno 2205: Tundra first major DLC is out now

0

Ubisoft has released Anno 2205: Tundra, the first major DLC for the city-building simulation from Ubisoft’s Blue Byte studio, along with a free update available today for all 2205 players. With Tundra, players will have access to a brand new sector to manage along with the Temperate, Artic and Moon sessions. In the desolate land of the Vanha Plains, players will gather new resources and complete specific quests to further improve their metropolises.

ANNO2205_TUNDRA_DLC_logo_black_1456493590

In this new 82,000 acre territory, players will discover new gameplay tactics as they need to dry the marshes before settling in the area among the muskoxen and the icy surroundings. Two new population types are also available, the Tundra Scientists and the Tundra Protectors, of which players will have to manage their specific needs. In order to fulfill these needs, five new production chains and ten new goods types challenge players to use their management skills more effectively.

Anno2205_Tundra_DLC_Drainage-Site_1456493499

A new additional module type can be unlocked by solving the sector quest and inquiring on the past generations failures. This module improves farms and factories in the Tundra sector, but also in all other regions of the game. Throughout the story quests and optional side quests, players will control a futuristic flying vehicle to hover over the desert landscapes.

A free update named “Corporation HQ” is also available today for all Anno 2205 players. This patch enhances the corporation progression screen to make it more intuitive, and to provide a good overview of the player’s achievements and improvements. With this update, players can now sell goods depending on requests to NPC traders.

Tundra is available to owners of the Anno 2205’s Season Pass, and can be purchased independently for all players.

If they can put a smile on a child’s face, then we know we’ve done our job right.”

Microsoft to start shipping HoloLens Developer kits

Today Microsoft has announced that its HoloLens development kit will set those planning on buying it back $3000. The development kit begins shipping 30th March and comes with three games: Young Conker, Fragments and RoboRaid.
Young Conker is based on the original squirrel although is developed by Asobo Studios rather than Rare and it’s something Microsoft seem pretty excited about.
“It is amazing how different the play experience feels based on playing the game in your living room versus your kitchen or your bedroom,” said Microsoft’s Kudo Tsunoda, in an official blog post.

“Even starting the game from a different position in a single room creates an entirely new gameplay dynamic.”

Fragments in a crime drama which “blends the line between the digital world and the real world.” And finally there is RoboRaid, an FPS with aliens bursting through your living room walls.

The development kit comes with other apps for creating games, as well as an enhanced edition of Skype.

Review: Hitman GO: Definitive Edition

0

The mobile edition of Hitman GO was a complete and total success in my opinion. The challenging and creative puzzles plus absolutely ridiculous amounts of content makes for a brilliant mobile experience. But it’s not all that often that a mobile game makes the shift over to a console. What looks great on a high definition 8 inch screen doesn’t necessarily look great with the same resolution stretched across your relatively large screen of choice. There’s a few things about Hitman GO that actually make it a pretty good candidate for a non-mobile platform.

Mechanically speaking Hitman GO doesn’t rely much on a touchscreen interface. In his GO incarnation Agent 47 is restricted to moving around a fixed grid displayed on the floor. It’s using this grid that allows for the difficult puzzles although this is a turn based game and every time you take a move so do the guards. There’s no chance to stay still and wait for a guard to finish his patrol, which would really destroy 90% of the full Hitman games. If you want a guard to move or if you need to position yourself behind him you will have to move in the correct way in the correct order.

It’s a simple core mechanic to base the game on but that’s the way with all great puzzle games. With the addition of some different guard types and a few environmental objects there’s a positively chess like level of strategy that emerges in Hitman GO. There’s also a strange analogy to those sliding puzzle games that have a single tile missing. If you cross those puzzles with chess and add a shaving of Agent 47 this is exactly what it looks like. Definitely an odd combination but the end product is one of my favourite puzzle games.

Visually there is no translation issue at all. Hitman GO is made to look like a board game with models that look a bit like Subbuteo players. The environments are overly smooth and cartoonish representations of the fictional cardboard cut-out version of the game. On a mobile device Hitman GO looks stunning and it looks just as stunning on a full screen. The artistic representation moves over smoothly with no problems at all. There’s a nice variation in the environments as you work your way through the adventure and travel around the world. There are more than enough to keep things fresh and progressive through to the end of the game.

Controls are simple to use too and despite the fact the touchscreen controls were excellent the grid movement is even easier given a d-pad or keyboard. Thankfully the most challenging experience you will have when playing Hitman GO is solving the puzzles. I’d be surprised, and more than a little impressed, if you don’t get stuck for a while on more than one occasion. GO is a satisfyingly difficult game which makes success feel like a real achievement most of the time.

On the down side there can be situations where the solution is so many steps ahead that you can’t realistically figure it out and resort to some constructive trial and error. At times it can feel a little too challenging because of this and almost all of the satisfaction is gone when you didn’t actually solve the puzzle using the grey cells.

Removing the convenience of the mobile platform hasn’t hindered Hitman GO. It’s more than capable of supporting itself on a console thanks to the thoughtful and challenging puzzles. At times they can be a bit too difficult or the solutions are too long winded which leads to trial and error gameplay that doesn’t feel right. But for the most part Hitman GO is a great puzzler.

The looks also move over nicely. Hitman GO has so much style and flair that it still looks gorgeous. I absolutely love the crisp smooth designs and board game appearance. It’s beautiful looking and confident enough to show off. A great looking and mechanically sound puzzler that works just as much on a console as it does on your mobile device. GO Hitman GO.
