Ceton talks more about companion apps for Windows Phone and Android; Let’s Browse and Record TV

Ceton have posted a new article talking about their companion apps for Windows Phone and Android.

Home_thumb3

This is how the blog post starts:

A few weeks ago I showed off the re-imagining of the home screen on our WP7 application. While I covered some information, there is still obviously a lot of depth to the companion apps so this week I wanted to dig deeper into how you will search to find television shows and what the experience is like on WP7. To start off we have our Television pivot. Inside this pivot is everything crucial to your television experience on your “Q”. Today I will be going over two key ways to search which is either via the guide or through a channel listing. Let’s first jump into the channel list.

It’s worth reading the rest of the post, and checking out all the screenshots. You can do so by clicking here.

As I am on my travels this week so Garry and Andrew host the show and talk over the weeks news including Nokia Lumia 900, Plex, Twonky, BBC Sport Apps, The Gadget Show Live,DVBLink APIs and new products from Kingston.

Garry and Andrew recorded the show earlier this week before Microsoft announced the editions of Windows 8 and the fact that Windows Media Center will be in a addon “Media Pack” which is only available in the Pro version so I touch on this in the intro to the show and we will talk about it more next week, so it would be great to get your feedback on this.

Raspberry Pi progress update from RS Online

Those few very lucky people at the front of the queue will be getting their Raspberry Pi’s shortly as they are now shipping, I got an email from RS Online with an update.

CDW---The-Beeb--30-Event-037_thumb1_

This is the email I got last night from RS Online:

Great progress this week on moving towards deliveries and mass production…

  • Together with the Raspberry Pi Foundation we’ve successfully completed compliance testing and certification work for CE, FCC and C-Tick.
  • This means we are now starting to ship our share of the first 2000 boards that arrived in the UK last week.
  • We have opened our dedicated Raspberry Pi Store to those lucky people who were first in the registration queue to place their orders.
  • Now that the Raspberry Pi boards are compliance certified we have triggered our manufacturing processes to move into volume production.
  • As new batches of Pi’s become available over the coming weeks we’ll be inviting the next in-line into the Raspberry Pi Store to place their orders.
  • The next batch is already in production so we’re expecting more deliveries shortly and we’ll continue to keep you updated via our regular email and online FAQs.

And while we’ve been compliance-testing the boards, a number of engineers have been road-testing the product! You can see some first reviews of the Raspberry Pi at DesignSpark.com including Raspberry Pi and Custard. As the anticipation continues to build, our Pi Perspectives are getting lots of attention too – these are the views and opinions of leading academics and scientists across industry and education.

With any luck, by the time you read your next weekly update, the first Raspberry Pi’s will be out in the world. Thanks for your continued patience and please rest assured that your Pi will be on its way as soon as we can bake it!

Check out our Raspberry Pi coverage from the Beeb@30 event

Hauppauge launches StreamEez high definition video streamer

Yesterday, Hauppauge launched a high definition video streamer designed to broadcast Live events over the internet, called the StreamEez.

hauppauge

Hauppauge Digital has announced ‘StreamEez’, a high definition video streamer designed for organisations who want a simple to use, high quality video streamer to broadcast live events on the Internet.

The StreamEez ‘box’ connects to an HD video camera using either HDMI or Component Video, compresses the camera’s video using a built-in high quality H.264 encoder into a form which is compatible with many common streaming video sites such as Ustream and Justin.TV. StreamEez then connects to a laptop computer over USB. The computer has the Hauppauge StreamEez control application installed, which makes a connection to the streaming Internet web site.

StreamEez is based on the same high quality video encoders which were developed for Hauppauge’s popular line of HD video recorders, Colossus and HD PVR. StreamEez requires a small laptop computer to act as the video server, a HD video camera which has HDMI or Component Video output, the SteamEez device plus an Internet connection and an account with a streaming video site such as Ustream or Justin.TV. All encoding and formatting of the high definition video signal is done inside StreamEez, making the video transmission the highest quality possible.

Since most organisations streaming live events store the video equipment between broadcasts, StreamEez is designed to make set up and removal fast. The StreamEez device is in a rugged housing and connects to the laptop PC via a USB cable. And because it is based on well-proven hardware encoding technology, the best possible video stream is created with the lowest possible bit rates making for a better end user experience.

StreamEez is compatible with several popular video streaming sites, and uses standard protocols such as RTMP. Pricing on the StreamEez ‘box’ and Windows based application software starts at £299.

Hauppauges TV Streamer Broadway gets TV Recording feature added

Hauppauge Digital has announced that Broadway, Hauppauge’s live TV streamer for the iPad and iPhone, now has TV recording support.

Broadway-2T-angle

With this new feature, Broadway can record TV programs locally and then stream it to an iPad or iPhone at a later time. “Broadway” is a stand alone “box” which allows live TV to be watched on an Apple device in the home through a WiFi connection, or anywhere in the world via an Internet connection.

Broadway has-2 built in DVB-T Tuners supporting Freeview allowing users to watch one channel and simultaneously record another. Broadway also connects to cable or satellite set top boxes. Once connected to a TV source, Broadway can tune into a TV program and then either stream the live TV program to an iPad or iPhone, or, with the new feature, record the TV program to a locally attached storage device and then stream the recording at a later time.

Broadway can be used in the home, for example, to stream a football game or a news program over the home Wi-Fi network to an iPad. The iPad will display a list of Broadway’s TV channels, and with two taps of a finger on the iPad, live TV will be displayed on the iPad screen.

If you travel and have a Wi-Fi or Internet connection, you can watch live TV from your home anywhere in the world. Broadway connects to your home network router and transmits the TV signal through your network router over the Internet to your iPad or iPhone.

Hauppauge’s PCTV Systems division in Germany developed Broadway. One of the key technologies within Broadway is a high-quality, high definition H.264 video compressor, which can take TV programs from clear QAM digital cable TV or ATSC over-the-air TV and “shrink” these programs into a form which can be displayed on an Apple device. Broadway has a built-in multi-format TV receiver which can tune to digital cable TV channels and ATSC over-the-air broadcast TV channels, and then compress those TV channels and rebroadcast them over both WiFi and the Internet so that the TV programs can be watched on an Apple device. In addition to HD TV, Broadway can also receive and convert analog video into a form which can be watched on Apple devices.

Broadway is standalone, and simply needs a TV source (a cable TV connection or a TV antenna) and a connection to a home network router in order to send live TV anywhere in the world where a Apple device has a connection to the Internet.

The new record feature will be a free software upgrade to Broadway users.
