Exclusive new FUSE interview with Ted Price from Insomniac Games with gameplay footage

05_Raven_group

We recently had the opportunity to sit down again with Insomniac Games CEO and founder Ted Price to talk about their forthcoming game Fuse due for release in a few weeks.

Fuse is a 4-player co-op, story driven action game that forces players to consider what happens when humans exploit alien technology they were never meant to have. Developed by award-winning Insomniac Games, Fuse enables players to use lethal teamwork as they battle a rogue paramilitary outfit that has stolen a volatile alien energy source called Fuse.

Each agent is equipped with Fuse-powered weapons that gives them unique capabilities to expand their strategic options and yield extraordinary results. Solo players can experience each unique agent by using the LEAP feature to switch characters at will during combat. As players complete objectives, they earn Fuse points that can be spent on powerful upgrades.

Over to Ted and that all new gameplay:

Here is the interview we did with Ted earlier in the year.

And you can also check out when we interviewed Brian Allgeier from Insomniac Games about Fuse too.

Fuse is due to be released in 30th May 2013 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

LG has announced that they will update their Google TV products to Jelly Bean, version 4.2.2.  Here is the press release:

LG TO UPDATE GOOGLE TV WITH LATEST ANDROID 4.2.2. JELLY BEAN OS
With Support for the Android NDK, LG Smart TV with Google TV Will Provide Access to Larger, More Diverse Selection of Apps and Games

SEOUL, May 16, 2013 — LG Electronics (LG) today announced that its Google TVs will be updated with the latest version of the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system. Available in the third quarter, the update will enable customers to enjoy more applications, including games that provide a greater level of interactivity and advanced graphics. LG is showcasing its Google TV with the new operating system at the Google I/O developer conference in San Francisco this week.

In addition to boosting overall performance, the latest Jelly Bean update supports the Android-based Native Development Kit (NDK) so Google TV owners can have the widest, most diverse selection of apps to choose from. Smartphone apps designed using the NDK will run on Google TV with little to no modifications. With NDK compatibility, users can now play more games on a bigger LG Google TV screen. This level of compatibility makes it easier for developers to enter the burgeoning Smart TV app market.

“LG’s Google TV with the latest Jelly Bean operating system and NDK support will deliver an enhanced user experience and access to more great apps,” said Havis Kwon, president and CEO of the LG Home Entertainment Company. “In addition to enabling users to enjoy advanced Android apps, the latest OS will also provide developers with new opportunities in the Smart TV arena.”

Users will also benefit from LG’s exceptional remote control options, which will make it easier to interact with the vast amount of content available on LG Google TV. In addition to the intuitive functionality of its Magic Remote Qwerty, LG will introduce a free remote control app that can turn any Android smartphone or tablet into a two-handed, touch-sensitive game controller. LG’s new controller app is the ideal control solution for the large number of interactive games set to arrive on the upgraded Google TV platform as it provides a level of control necessary to play more complex games such as football and racing simulations.

The latest update will also include LG’s patented 3D Game Changer, bringing a dimension to interactive games never seen before. 3D Game Changer produces a fully immersive effect by displaying 2D games in enhanced 3D mode, for an effect previously available only in movies filmed with 3D equipment.

Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean will be available as an over-the-air (OTA) download for existing LG Google TVs in the United States starting in the third quarter. What’s more, LG Google TV will be available for the first time outside the United States when it is introduced in the Korean market later this year.

Help Bring Video Games: The Movie To The Silver Screen

0

Mediajuice Studios announced that it has launched a Kickstarter campaign to finalise its indie documentary film, Video Games: The Movie.

Hiroyuki_Kobayashi_HeadofGames_Creator_DMC_ResEvil_Capcom

Mediajuice Studios, which has created scores of trailers and live-action commercials for the world’s top video game brands, recently concluded a year’s worth of on-camera interviews with many video game icons and celebrities for Video Games: The Movie, and is now raising funds to complete post-production before releasing the film theatrically.

Video Games: The Movie is a documentary that hopes to entertain and educate people about the rich history, unique culture and exciting future of the video game industry through incisive interviews with the people who helped shaped the interactive entertainment industry, including Nolan Bushnell founder of ATARI, Randy Pitchford, Cliff Bleszinski, and many others. Also included are some of geek and gamer culture’s leading celebrity voices such as Wil Wheaton, Chris Hardwick and Alison Haislip.

Directed by Jeremy Snead, Video Games: The Movie will tackle many of today’s hot button topics, including the questionable correlation between video games and violence, the exploration and elevation of video games as an art form, next-generation and future-generation gaming and the negative stereotypes that continue to plague the industry despite its popularity and commercial success.

“We have spent the past year gathering footage, speaking with industry founders, influencers, and pundits to get their take on what we’ve collectively created as an industry and where we’re headed. We’ve amassed an amazing library of footage that we think will help bring the true story of the video game industry into clear focus. We’re now headed into post-production and are looking to the community to get us to the finish line. We are on Kickstarter to generate enough funding to create the type of film the video game industry deserves,” said Jeremy Snead, director of Video Games: The Movie and president of Mediajuice Studios.

Mediajuice will use Kickstarter to fund post-production on the film, which includes editing, a musical score, voice over narration, the acquisition of licensed archival clips from as early the 1960s through the late 1990s, motion graphics, and the need to gain a handful of key interviews that are needed to cover the next generation of consoles as well as round out and better present the video game industry to viewers.

“I hope that once we’re done, Video Games: The Movie will stand as a benchmark for all other movies about the games industry; and that it will help dispel some of the nagging falsehoods that ignorantly plague game makers and players keeping them from receiving mainstream acceptance like other art forms such as films, music and books. In the end, our hope is that this film will help further legitimize the industry and the culture to those who continue to disregard it without really spending time to learn about it,” said Snead.

Video Games: The Movie is a feature-length documentary, which aims to tell the untold story of video games by giving a past, present and future look into how games are made, marketed and consumed, and how in turn, that has created a culture unlike any other. Where is the industry and the growing audience of gamers headed? The entire story will be told through the eyes of game developers, publishers, and consumers.

Video Games: The Movie is not just another film about the games industry – it will attempt something much more ambitious: the question of what it means to be a gamer, a game maker and where “video games” will be in 10, 20, even 100 years from now.  Video Games: The Movie will showcase the evolution of industry via four sections: The History, The Culture, The Creation and The Future through insightful interviews. Participants include  Rob Pardo (CCO, Blizzard Ent.), Mark Rein (vice president, Epic Games), Cliff Bleszinski (Gears of War, Unreal Tourn.), Nolan Bushnell (founder of ATARI), Brian Fargo (founder, Interplay & InXile), David Perry (co-founder, GAIKI), Randy Pitchford (president, Gearbox), Palmer Luckey (creator of the Oculus Rift), Kudo Tsunoda (Corp. VP, Microsoft Game Studios) as well as some of geek & gamer culture’s leading celebrities such as Wil Wheaton, Chris Hardwick, Max Landis and Alison Haislip.

EA Kills Off Online Passes For New Titles

0

From today, new EA releases won’t require you to own an online pass in order to access all of their multiplayer content. EA senior director of corporate communications John Reseburg confirmed the news to VentureBeat via e-mail. “Yes, we’re discontinuing Online Pass. None of our new EA titles will include that feature,” he wrote.

Online passes, which have proved deeply unpopular since their introduction, are required to access extra or online features in games like Battlefield 3 and SSX, and after their one-time activation restrict those features to a single online account.

EA logo

Passes were introduced by publishers as an attempt to encourage players to pick up games new rather than second hand. Though unpopular, they did help publishers recoup some losses from preowned sales. Ed has spoken out in defence of the online pass before – do you agree?

Could EA be scrapping online passes because the rumoured-to be always online next gen console simply won’t need them.

Ubisoft ‘Indefinitely Suspends’ work on 1666

0

Ubisoft has placed a hold on Patrice Desilets’ 1666, following the creative director’s departure from the company. Publisher Ubisoft recently bought out THQ’s Montreal studio following the latter’s demise. This mean’t that former employee Desilets also came as part of the package, although it wasn’t long before Desilets and Ubisoft parted ways.

“After more than two months of discussion with [Desilets], we couldn’t align our vision both on project development and team management,” Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot said in a recent investors call (via Eurogamer).

“Consequently our collaboration has ended. We have suspended development on 1666 for an undisclosed time.”Ubisoft_Logo_4C_Black.jpg

Desilets had previously stated in another interview that he “Was terminated by Ubisoft,” adding “I was notified of this termination in person, handed a termination notice and was unceremoniously escorted out of the building by two guards without being able to say goodbye to my team or collect my personal belongings.”

Apparently Desilets’ contract specifies that IP rights revert to him in event of the game’s cancellation, however as a way of getting around this it’s alleged that internet supersleuth, Superannuation, that the game has instead been indefinitely suspended, likely meaning that it’ll never see the light of day.
