Ubisoft has placed a hold on Patrice Desilets’ 1666, following the creative director’s departure from the company. Publisher Ubisoft recently bought out THQ’s Montreal studio following the latter’s demise. This mean’t that former employee Desilets also came as part of the package, although it wasn’t long before Desilets and Ubisoft parted ways.

“After more than two months of discussion with [Desilets], we couldn’t align our vision both on project development and team management,” Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot said in a recent investors call (via Eurogamer).

“Consequently our collaboration has ended. We have suspended development on 1666 for an undisclosed time.”Ubisoft_Logo_4C_Black.jpg

Desilets had previously stated in another interview that he “Was terminated by Ubisoft,” adding “I was notified of this termination in person, handed a termination notice and was unceremoniously escorted out of the building by two guards without being able to say goodbye to my team or collect my personal belongings.”

Apparently Desilets’ contract specifies that IP rights revert to him in event of the game’s cancellation, however as a way of getting around this it’s alleged that internet supersleuth, Superannuation, that the game has instead been indefinitely suspended, likely meaning that it’ll never see the light of day.
