Ubisoft Partners with Coeur de Pirate for Child of Light

0

Ubisoft announced partnerships with Canadian artist Coeur de Pirate to produce the game’s original soundtrack and le Cirque du Soleil Media to enhance the sense of theatricality in the game.

1

To fit the mystical atmosphere of Lemuria, Coeur de Pirate composed an intimate and nostalgic soundtrack. With the support of The Bratislava Symphony Orchestra, the Montreal-based artist was also able to recreate the epic and operatic ambiance of in-game fight sequences.

Music is one of the most important ways to communicate emotion to players,” said Patrick Plourde, Creative Director, Ubisoft. “The music of Coeur de Pirate is fresh, romantic and optimistic, a perfect match for what we wanted to express with Child of Light. I am extremely honored that she wanted to join us on this adventure.”

“My experience with Ubisoft was great. I was there from the beginning, so they didn’t have so much material for me to work with at first, which gave me complete freedom. Then, when I first saw the images, I really felt I could create something great with them” said Coeur de Pirate, songstress and Child of Light’s music composer. “I remember seeing for the first time the music on the images. This is wonderful to see something come to life like this.”

By collaborating with Cirque du Soleil Media, the Ubisoft Montreal team was able to benefit from a world class experience in theatrical realization and costume design, providing a real stage direction point of view to the game’s creation. It was the perfect match to expand Child of Light’s universe and design.

“Videogames invite players to be immersed in virtual worlds and no one is better at creating immersive and magical experiences than the artists of the Cirque du Soleil,” said Patrick Plourde. “So to be able to collaborate with them to achieve Child of Light’s ambition to create a playable poem was a dream come true.”

“One of the most important aspects of our business philosophy is to assess the creative challenge a project may present,” said Jacques Méthé, President, Cirque du Soleil Media. “Ubisoft is a leader in the gaming industry and throughout the years, they have acquired worldwide success with an impressive portfolio of original brands. We are proud of our collaboration with Ubisoft who share similar artistic values.”

Child of Light is a reimagining of classic fairytales set against a picturesque background inspired by the watercolor artworks of The Golden Age of Illustration. As a playable poem, Child of Light puts players in the shoes of Aurora, a young princess who must win back the sun, the moon and the stars held captive by the mysterious Queen of the Night.

Child of Light will be available to download on April 30, 2014 on Xbox LIVE for the Xbox  360 and XboxOne, the PlayStation Network for the PlayStation  3 and PlayStation4, the eShop from Nintendo for the Wii U, and PC Digital, at the price of £11.99. A boxed Deluxe Edition will also be available in retail on PS3 & PS4 as a cross-buy and on PC and includes a unique artbook, Igniculus key ring and other exclusive content.

2K and Gearbox Software Announce Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

3

2K and Gearbox Software has announced today that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, an all-new standalone Borderlands game set in-between Borderlands and Borderlands 2, is currently in co-development by Gearbox Software and 2K Australia. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will be available worldwide in autumn 2014 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows PC.

Borderlands-Youtube-header

“Borderlands is one of 2K’s premiere franchises, and Borderlands 2 is the highest-selling title in the history of our company,” said Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K. “Fans are clamouring for an all-new, triple-A Borderlands experience, and we will
deliver just that with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.”

Borderlands – The Pre-Sequel – Developer Overview

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel launches players to Pandora’s moon to experience wild, gravity-bending gunfights in zero-atmosphere environments using an array of all-new weaponry. For the very first time, fans play on the other side as four new playable
characters contributing to the rise of the Hyperion Corporation. Fighting alongside Handsome Jack, players witness his transformation into the megalomaniacal tyrant that fans loved to hate in Borderlands 2.

“Since Gearbox Software first created the Borderlands franchise, we never dreamed of this much love and support from gamers,” added Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox Software. “We are grateful that the incredible talent at 2K Australia has been able
to jump in with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel to help it live up to the high standards that Borderlands fans have come to expect.”

“Gearbox has entrusted 2K Australia with the co-development of their award-winning franchise and we are committed to delivering an all-new shoot ‘n’ loot experience that fans will love,” concluded Tony Lawrence, general manager of 2K Australia. “Fans
will see for themselves at PAX East that there’s nothing quite like moon jumping in a low-gravity gunfight, completely freezing a moon bandit with one of the new Cryo weapons, and then shattering him into little pieces that float off into space. It’s pretty
epic.”

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will be available in autumn 2014 for Xbox 360, PS3, and Windows PC.

Pop-Up City Farm Planted in London–Launches ‘Be a Farm Hero’ Campaign

UK, take a break, spring is in full swing and it’s time to bloom! The ‘Be a Farm Hero’ campaign, championing the benefits of embracing a bite-size piece of the country life to de-stress from the chaotic city living, was launched today with a pop-up farm experience set amongst the gleaming skyscrapers of Canary Wharf.

Bringing the tranquility of the countryside to the city, the ‘Be a Farm Hero’ campaign is from Farm Heroes Saga, the new match-three game from King, the creators of the phenomenally successful Candy Crush Saga.

New research findings, commissioned by Farm Heroes Saga to celebrate the game’s launch, highlighted a large proportion of urban dwellers crave the country life to relax. In response to this, Farm Heroes Saga has teamed up with Alex James, Blur bassist turned farm owner, to launch a global campaign encouraging more city dwellers to ‘Be a Farm Hero’ and try a bite-sized portion of farming as a way of switching off from busy city living.

In London’s Canary Wharf, Alex James today laid the foundations of the ‘Be a Farm Hero’ campaign, encouraging city workers to roll-up their shirt sleeves, muck in and learn some simple steps to grow their own produce, even using their office desktop space to create their very own green area.

“I completely understand the lure of country life having made the switch from city living myself,” said Alex James. “The opportunity to grow your own fruit and veg shouldn’t be limited to those who live in the country. Farm Heroes Saga brings a taste of the country to the city. Urban farms are a fantastic escape from the concrete jungle and it’s been brilliant to raise a few smiles from the Suited and booted Up farm in Canary Wharf.’’

The Event

In the dedicated allotment space in the pop-up farm, the public were treated to live demonstrations, given top tips for sowing  their Cropsie seeds and learnt how easy it is to start growing, even if they don’t have a garden or windowsill. To show how growing can even work in the office space, a lucky few had their pen pots, mugs and filing trays given a special green makeover, filled with soil and seeds, to help brighten up their working day.

Farm Heroes Saga is played by millions across the globe every day as a way to switch off  for a few minutes and have fun on their stressful city commutes” said Tommy Palm, Games Guru at King. “Always wanting to create moments of fun for our players and in response to this global research, we’re encouraging city dwellers to be Farm Heroes themselves.  It’s well known that tending to plants or vegetables can keep stress at bay and put a spring in your step, so, we’re bringing these key qualities of the game to life by encouraging urbanites to roll up their shirt sleeves and grow their own Cropsies after the well-loved characters in the game.”

Seed packets of carrots, strawberries and lettuce were handed out for people to join the campaign and start growing. At the pop-up farm it was not all grow, grow, grow, with pampering sessions on offer, including nail art with a farm-themed twist, professional therapists offering Shiatsu massages, and also a chance to meet selection of adorable farm yard animals for that authentic countryside experience – all in the middle of Canary Wharf.

Survey Results

The campaign comes off the back of a survey conducted by Farm Heroes Saga highlighting the extent to which people feel deprived of greenery, boxed in by their concrete jungle. More than half (52.2%) of respondents felt that lack of green areas contributed to city living stress, whilst in the capital only a third of Londoner’s (33.9%) claimed to have access to a garden, compared to over 40% nationally.

The Farm Heroes Saga team is also educating people about the opportunities to tend to their plants on their desk as the survey showed that almost half of Londoner’s (45%) forget to take breaks during their busy working days, compared to the national average of nearly one in four.

When it comes to de-stressing, nearly one third of people say that playing mobile games like Farm Heroes Saga and Candy Crush Saga helps them chill out, with a quarter saying that it gives them a brief escape from the real world.

King, the world’s leading casual games company and creator of global hit game Candy Crush Saga, recently launched Farm Heroes Saga on mobile and it’s now available to download for free on iOS and Android platforms.

To join the movement today and to ‘Be A Farm Hero’, head over to http://www.farmheroessaga.com/ for tips on how to grow your own produce and much more.

New Details for Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS

0

A new Nintendo Direct video revealed numerous details about the upcoming Super Smash Bros. games for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS systems. At the start of the video shown below, the series creator Masahiro Sakurai announced that the Nintendo 3DS version of the game is planned for this summer, with the Wii U version targeting winter 2014. Both games will be available in stores and on Nintendo eShop for their respective platform.

super smash bros

Sakurai also detailed many of the stages and items in both versions, described the games’ online functionality, revealed a new mode exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS version and announced fan-favourite Greninja, a Pokémon from the Pokémon X and Pokémon Y games, as a new playable character.

  • Launch windows: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is planned for this summer. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is targeting winter 2014.
  • Silky smooth 3D: Most gameplay elements of the Nintendo 3DS version of the game will run at 60 frames per second, all in stereoscopic 3D.
  • “Smash Run”:  Exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS version of the game is a new mode called “Smash Run.” In this mode, four players have five minutes to enter a dungeon and explore the surroundings, fight enemies and obtain power-ups to enhance their fighters. Once the five minutes are up, all four fighters enter a battle arena using their newly equipped items and power-ups.  Enemies encountered in the Smash Run mode are from a wide range of game series. Multiple Nintendo 3DS systems and games are required for multiplayer modes.
  • New challenger!: Greninja, the awesome final evolution of Froakie from Pokémon  X and Pokémon Y, joins the roster as a playable character in      Super Smash Bros. for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
  • Oldies But Goodies: Many of the classic characters from past Super Smash Bros. games that are returning in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS have new powers and abilities. Four characters that have appeared in previous games.
  • Zero Suit Samus: That’s right, Zero Suit Samus is back, but this time she is her own fully playable character, separate from suited Samus. In the new game, she is given jet boots to make her even more powerful.
  • Sheik: As with Zero Suit Samus, Sheik is another character that appeared in previous Super Smash Bros. games, but will be a unique playable character for the first time in the new Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games. Sheik has new moves like Burst Grenade and Bouncing Fish.
  • Yoshi: In previous games, Yoshi stood on two legs and hunched over, as if Mario was going to jump on top of him at any moment. This new version of Yoshi stands completely upright, making him an even stronger fighter.
  • Charizard: After appearing from a Poké Ball in Super Smash Bros. Melee and becoming playable by using Pokémon Trainer in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, this fire-breathing Pokémon is now a selectable character.
  • Online play: Both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions of Super Smash Bros. will offer online multiplayer gameplay with other players on the same platform. Players with broadband Internet access can battle it out with anyone else who is online and also has the game.
  • When playing with random players online, two modes are available: “For Fun” and “For Glory.” In “For Glory,” only Final Destination stage variations are available. There are no platforms, elevated areas or items in this mode. It is a nice, clean battle between characters. In “For Fun,” all stages are picked randomly and all items and power-ups are available.
  • When playing with friends, full customisation is available – players can set the rules, stages and items however they want.
  • Variety of stages: While the cast of playable characters is the same in both versions of the new games, the stages where the battles take place are vastly different, depending on which system a player chooses. The Wii U stages are primarily based on past home console games, while the Nintendo 3DS stages draw from handheld games for inspiration.
  • Boss characters, such as the Yellow Devil in Wily Castle will make appearances in some stages. When bosses appear, fighters will have to battle the boss, as well as one another. The boss can even be used in strategic ways to damage other fighters.
  • Almost all the stages in both versions of the game will have a “Final Destination form,” an alternate form of each stage that is inspired by the relatively simple layout of the much-loved Final Destination stage.
  • Items, Trophies and Pokémon: Items, Assist Trophies and Poké Balls all return in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. New to the games are Master Balls, special Poké Balls that contain Legendary Pokémon like Arceus and Xerneas.
  • Get connected: There will be elements in Super Smash Bros. that link both versions of the games. More details about this will be revealed at a later date.
  • Custom moves: In a series first, players can now customise move sets when playing locally or online with friends.
