The search is on to find the UK’s ultimate gaming rig. The UK’s largest independent tech retailer Ebuyer is asking for gamers from across the UK to submit photos of their gaming setup for a chance to win a £200 Ebuyer voucher code to add to their setup.

Creating your own gaming rig is a rite of passage for gaming enthusiasts, with fans looking to continuously build bigger and better setups to enhance their gaming experience. By modifying your PC, it allows for the ultimate gaming experience, creating features that aren’t part of the intended experience.

Recently it was revealed, American rapper Post Malone is a huge gamer, with him unveiling the custom-built gaming PC that cost him approximately $6,400!.

Although his set up is extreme, it features the key essentials for a top rig, includes a gaming PC, fast monitors for a cinematic experience, additional storage and graphics cards and a liquid cooling system.

All these essentials come at a cost, but we want to find the UK gamer who has the ultimate gaming setup – think big, extravagant and costly!

Submit your pictures through the Ebuyer blog here: https://www.ebuyer.com/blog/2018/09/do-you-have-the-uks-most-impressive-gaming-setup/

We also want to see your images across social media so, don’t forget to use #showoffyoursetup when sharing.

Stephen James, Marketing Manager at Ebuyer said: “Here at Ebuyer we are fascinated by all things gaming. We want to see the real-life setups of some of the best gaming rigs out there. It’s going to be interesting to see just how dedicated UK gamers are to their hobby, and just how extreme some of the rigs are!”

Review: Shenmue II

Shenmue II was released on the Dreamcast towards the premature end of the console’s life cycle and Sega’s adventures as a games hardware company. The company’s new direction meant that many titles such as Shenmue II got a chance of being played by more players on other consoles. Shenmue II was released, along with a couple of other Dreamcast titles, on the Xbox and now it has been given a new lease of life yet again with the release of the Shenmue collection on the current generation of consoles.

Review: Yakuza Kiwami 2

As someone who came to the Yakuza series very late as a result of the excellent remaster remakes of Yakuza Zero and the first Kiwami, this has been a gaming experience really like no other for me as I continue to discover its charms and magnificence. Earlier this year my GOTY contenders were all knocked out as I reviewed Yakuza 6: Song of Life and it is still high on the list next to God of War, Ni No Kuni 2 and MARVEL’s Spider-Man as PlayStation 4 game of the year. I have been so hungry to feed on as much Yakuza games and story as possible so it was with legitimate excitement to finally get to play Kiwami 2.

It is strange having played the possible end of this series with Yakuza 6 and knowing where the story may end for Kiryu but thanks to these remakes coming to the west, it is a real joy to experience the early chapters in his life and see all the memories and events that lead to that end. Kiwami 2 picks up one year after the events of the first Kiwami games as Kiryu is now full guardian to Haruka and has walked away from his Yakuza life in the Tojo Clan. Fair to say that the game starts with Kiryu and Haruka in a rather happy place.

But as the Yakuza series so often does, that happiness is cut short as Yakuza politics and drama following the assassination of the Tojo Clan’s Fifth Chairman, Yukio Terada at the very feet of Kiryu as he and Haruka were paying respects at a cemetery. Terada’s final act was to ask Kiryu to step in to try and avoid a Yakuza Clan war despite of this assassination which forces Kiryu to return to the city of Kamurocho. But things are never as black and white as it first seems and as always with the Yakuza there are many twists and turns as this story unfolds putting Kiryu once again in the middle of everything.

The twenty-five hours it took to complete the main story just shows yet again how much the Yakuza games have to offer and that time still left plenty of sub stories and side content to still do. The strength in the writing of the story and characters is the foundation as to why these games continue to amaze and impress me. The drama along with each twist will just carry players through the story itching to see what happens next and despite the fact that all the dialogue is still in its native Japanese with English subtitles, none of the emotion of the story is lost as the voice acting along with the visuals, convey every scene and moment in the story in a completely captivating performance.  On the visuals side Kiwami 2 using the same Dragon engine as Yakuza 6 but for me, this actually looks better with impressive character models and tremendous cinematic cutscenes throughout the main campaign and sub stories. In a year of such impressive PS4 titles like God of War and Spider-Man, the Yakuza titles this year are right up there at the top of besting looking games of 2018 for me.

As great as the main story is, the sub stories still serve as the side content to the game which allow for pause from all the action of the main and offers some very interesting tasks for Kiryu to undertake. The freedom to just explore Kamurocho and other locations in the game in between main story missions is a real joy, not to mention all the side activities such as visiting the SEGA Centre to play retro SEGA games or doing some Karaoke. One thing I will say about some of the Sub Stories is that they are rather grown up in terms of the subject and tone of the story with some ranging from simply helping strangers when you can to some very saucy and at times kinky stories of a sexual nature. These felt very strange but they reflect the Japanese culture and are fully optional with the ability to back out of completing that sub story altogether if you choose. With a main story that can get rather dark at times, the sub stories do offer some light relief from the heavy story driven main campaign missions. I did feel uncomfortable with some of them, but the writing for the quite grown up ones does tend to make it sillier by the conclusion and the majority are just fun and a great way to earn extra XP to help Kiryu level up his stats and skills.

A fun surprise was discovering that there is also a full side campaign for Majima with three chapters unlock via Kiryu’s main story progress. The Majima Saga serves as a prequel of sorts which allows the player to experience how and why Majima came to leave the Tojo Clan by playing through the events that lead up to where Kiryu finds him in Kiwami 2. This is purely fan service content really as Majima is a real fan favourite but the fact it is included is yet another example of the level of detail put into these remakes to honour but to also enhance the original experience. By playing Majima’s Saga you can also donate money for Kiryu to use in the main game so it is well worth playing through one the chapters unlock and accessed via the game’s main menu.

The levelling system is taken right from Yakuza 6 and it still works amazing well and easy to understand with XP rewards for every action and objective you complete used to upgrade Kiryu’s stats such as health and heat bar as well as improving attack and defence stats. New fighting moves and combinations can also be unlocked including some incredible finishing moves for when Kiryu has his heat at maximum. The further you increase his stats the more unlocks become available which allows for a very rewarding and balanced increase in Kiryu’s abilities as you move further through the campaign so you can feel in the combat just how much you are improving him.

The combat is still perhaps my favourite aspect to the game next to the writing and it is a joy just to bring Yakuza justice to the scum and villainy of the city. It is really just so easy to pick up but at the same time deep enough to put combos together especially when you unlock the finishing moves for the various weapons you can use in combat as well. Everything is fluid and smooth about the combat and you will literally have that badass feeling whenever you take care of a group of enemies. But the real power of combat has to come in when you tackle the boss fights throughout the campaign which are so truly cinematic it just becomes a real thrill and challenge each time.  Some fights can feel a little cheap so a great tip is to make sure you are fully stocked up on medical drugs and boosters as well as food in order to quickly top up your health in these fights.

Only real complaints about this game will come in the camera, especially in combat when all you can do is reset the camera position rather than keeping it locked on to a target and sometimes the weapon damage can feel more of a nuisance than a threat but can interrupt a nice combo when the sheer number of enemies can overwhelm you. But really, I just had so much fun experiencing more Yakuza series and the quality of each remake that comes across to the west just makes me regret only discovering this series this late in my gamer life.

The Yakuza series is well worth your attention if you like a strong and engaging story and rich action adventure title. Kiwami 2 absolutely shows all the strengths of this series and is yet again a fantastic example of how you take old games and remake them the right way for a new audience to find and original fans to cherish even more now. If you are worried about jumping into the series with Kiwami 2 don’t be, as with previous titles recently released, the game has a great catch up to bring players up to speed with all the events that lead up to this point in the series and after you do play this, both Yakuza Zero and Kiwami can be picked up dirt cheap not to mention my own top runner for GOTY in Yakuza 6: Song of Life.

The Yakuza games have yet to disappoint me and the polish and quality of the remakes in Kiwami and now Kiwami 2 just make getting this series an absolute no brainer. I am intrigued and fascinated by the adventures of Kiryu with a life story told by an amazing collection of games that have yet to disappoint.

I cannot recommend a better time to pick up these games and Kiwami 2 only has me wanting more of the series to be remade and released for me to play. It has quickly become one of the top game series to experience and if you own a PS4, this is a collection worthy of your time and investment.

Vodafone UK conducts First Holographic call using 5G

0

Today Vodafone has conducted a live, holographic call as part of the company’s 5G trials. The call, conducted between Vodafone’s offices in Manchester and Newbury is the first of its kind in the UK, and forms part of Vodafone’s ongoing testing of new 5G technology.

Manchester City and England Women’s football captain, Steph Houghton, takes part in the UK’s first 5G holographic call as part of Vodafone’s 5G trials staged between Manchester and Newbury today where she conducted a virtual training session for young fan Iris, 11 from Surrey. (Chris Ison/AP Images for Vodafone)

Manchester City and England Women’s Captain, Steph Houghton MBE, stationed in Manchester, interacted in a 3D, real-time communication with Vodafone Enterprise Director, Anne Sheehan, in Newbury. This gives a glimpse of what advances in network and technology could bring to our lives in the future. Also taking part in the conversation was Manchester City and Lionesses fan Iris, 11, from Surrey. Iris’s dream of being in the same room as her idol was realised through the power of 5G and the use of a HoloLens virtual reality headset – despite being over a 190 miles away. The exchange demonstrated the exciting possibilities that such technology can bring to sport, including remote coaching and training as well as the ability to bring fans closer to their idols.

The call follows Vodafone’s successful first test of 5G spectrum across a live network in April 2018 and gives an early indication of how advances in technology can transform our lives in the future. The power of super-low latency 5G could enable a range of life-changing applications, from a surgeon remotely joining a theatre from Manchester to advise on a patient’s condition in Birmingham, to a technician with a virtual reality headset advising on the fix of critical infrastructure, to 4K gaming on the move. 5G significantly reduces the time it takes for data to be sent and received. This will help eliminate the motion sickness many people experience when using today’s VR headsets.

Commenting on the ground breaking call, Vodafone’s Chief Technology Officer Scott Petty said: “We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to prepare for 5G with a multi-billion pound investment in new fibre infrastructure and technology. I can confirm today that we are ready and good to go with UK-wide city and rural 5G trials starting from next month.”

The holographic moment took place during Vodafone’s ‘Future Ready’ conference in front of a live audience. Football captain Steph Houghton MBE, who dialled in as a hologram from Manchester said: “It was fantastic to see first-hand the opportunities 5G could bring. As a player, one of the most exciting benefits of 5G is the ability to bring us closer to our fans no matter where they are, allowing us to interact with them remotely in real-time. When I’m playing abroad with Manchester City and England, this technology will also make it even easier to stay connected with everyone back home. To communicate in 3D, in real time and with no delay or interruption is an unbelievable experience.”

Vodafone also confirmed that in the coming weeks it will switch on 5G trials in the first of its city test beds, following end-to-end 5G testing at its Newbury-based laboratory. Manchester and Birmingham will be the first of Vodafone’s seven UK 5G test cities to go live, underlining a commitment to develop a super-fast and reliable network across the UK. We will also roll out 5G to popular UK holiday destinations such as Cornwall and the Lake District during 2019, so the UK’s cities aren’t the only places to benefit.

The infrastructure and technology is already in place to support 5G on our network. Vodafone was the first company in Europe to introduce Multiple Antenna (Massive MIMO) – an important building block of 5G – to boost capacity. With the addition of Software Defined Network and Edge Computing layers, we will be able to bring the power of 5G closer to customers on a mass scale when compatible devices arrive.

Withings Returns With Steel HR Sport

0

After reacquiring itself from Nokia on May 31, 2018, Withings is back with a new look, a strengthened focus on connected health and the first new product under its original brand.

Today, it unveiled Steel HR Sport, a multi-sport hybrid smartwatch that offers heart rate monitoring, connected GPS tracking and Fitness Level analytics – an estimation of VO2 max. The device that boasts an unprecedented 25-day battery life joins the product portfolio of connected health devices that encompass activity trackers, blood pressure monitors, smart scales, thermometers and sleep tracking devices.

With the launch of Steel HR Sport marks a new chapter in the Withings story, which has seen its original co-founder, Eric Carreel, buy back the business he sold to Nokia Technologies in 2016. Four months after officially reacquiring Withings, the brand is back with a new logo and product.

“With its advanced sport and health tracking capabilities, Steel HR Sport is a perfect example of how Withings is delivering against its original mission to help better manage health,” said Eric Carreel, CEO of Withings. “The public reaction to the return of Withings is extraordinary and renews my belief that elegantly designed devices with health tracking abilities can dramatically improve individual and society’s health.”

Steel HR Sport – Designed For Life

With the groundbreaking launch of Activité back in 2014, the first analogue watch with activity tracking features, Withings paved the way for all hybrid smartwatches to come. Steel HR Sport continues this tradition with a premium design blended with smart health and sport features for analytics.

Its elegant design features 316L stainless steel and a 40mm case that is water resistant up to 50M (5ATM). Available in both white and black face variants, it is equally eye-catching in sporting or social settings.

The analogue face of Steel HR shows the time as well as a sub-dial that shows the percentage of daily activity goals achieved. Goals are set and managed within the Health Mate app. The device’s discrete OLED display shows important health and sports data such as daily steps, calories, distance and heart rate and can be navigated with a push of a button. The display also shows smartphone notifications, which appear automatically along with a discreet vibration.

Workout ready: Multi-sport, connected GPS & Fitness Level

Steel HR Sport offers dedicated multisport tracking for over 30 different activities from yoga, volleyball and rowing to boxing, skiing and ice hockey. Users select the chosen activity on the watch display to start their workout session. During workout sessions, Steel HR Sport continuously tracks and displays heart rate and the duration of the workout directly on the watch screen. After the session, users can understand the intensity of their workout with heart rate zones and calories spent based on the specific activity selected.

Steel HR Sport is the first product within the Steel HR range to feature GPS connectivity. Once paired with a smartphone, users can track their pace, distance, elevation and map their workouts while walking, running or cycling. Pace, distance and continuous heart rate are displayed on the watch face screen and can be tracked live on the user’s phone. After a session, the user’s workout route can also be viewed in the Health Mate app.

The device is the first Withings product to offer Fitness Level assessments of its user. The fitness indicator, called VO2 max, measures the heart and muscles ability to convert oxygen into energy during physical exercise.

The fitter the individual, the higher the VO2 max. Following running sessions, Steel HR Sport calculates the user’s personal Fitness Level using pace, heart rate and morphological data (age, weight, gender). This fitness metric will help users to optimise their training, increase performance and achieve long-term fitness objectives.

Day and night companion

With an battery life of 25 days that can be extended for a further 20 days in a power reserve mode, Steel HR Sport is able to track fitness, activity and sleep patterns around the clock.

The device’s tracking ability is not limited to the waking hours. Steel HR Sport is a sophisticated sleep tracker, detecting length and quality of sleep and providing an overall Sleep Score in the Health Mate app that is based on sleep duration, depth regularity and interruptions. Steel HR Sport has capabilities such as Smart Wake-upTM that will wake users with vibration alarms at the most optimal times during their sleep cycle. The app even offers a Sleep Smarter Program, consisting of eight weeks of recommendations to improve sleep patterns.

During waking hours, Steel HR Sport helps users keep on top of their daily communications. Both Steel HR Sport as well the existing Steel HR product will benefit from enhanced notification capabilities, allowing a multitude of app notifications to be displayed on the digital screen. Previously limited to calls, text messages and events, the Steel HR line is now compatible with notifications from over 100 apps. Whether it’s flight alerts, breaking news or messages from friends and family on social channels, notifications appear on the watch with a content preview.

Availability

Priced £189.95, Steel HR Sport is available starting September 18, 2018, from www.withings.com, Amazon and selected retailers. It is available in both a white and black face variant with each coming with a grey silicone band. Additional exchangeable wristbands can be purchased exclusively on withings.com.

Steel HR Sport connects with the free Health Mate app, available both on Android and iOS. Health Mate also connects with a range of third party apps such as Apple Health, Google Fit, or MyFitnessPal.

Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Bundle Brings Side-Scrolling Classics Home this month

0

Capcom today announced Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Bundle, a new collection featuring seven games that pay tribute to the classic era of arcade side-scrolling co-op games. Releasing September 18, 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Steam for €19.99 / £15.99, Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Bundle features seven of these classic beat ‘em ups, including two never before ported titles, in one essential collection.

Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Bundle includes Final Fight (1989), The King of Dragons (1991), Captain Commando (1991), Knights of the Round (1991) and Warriors of Fate (1992), which gamers may remember from arcades or previous console releases. Armored Warriors (1994) and Battle Circuit (1997) have previously only been available in arcades, rounding out the collection providing an opportunity for gamers that may have missed out on that era a chance to play these retro gems at home. All of these titles exemplify some of the best side-scrolling games of the arcade era, and introduced players to iconic Capcom characters such as Captain Commando, plus Cody, Guy and Mike Haggar from Final Fight.

Playing co-operatively with friends was a huge draw for the arcade beat ‘em up genre, and Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Bundle preserves that popular feature. All seven games in the collection will support drop-in local and online multiplayer co-op play. In addition, a variety of customisable options are available to tailor gameplay such as number of lives, continues and difficulty.

In between battles, players can also dive deeper into each game with comprehensive galleries. A time warp of each game’s history includes stunning art, design sketches, development documents, archives of the original game sleeves and instruction cards, as well as special artwork that was only available to fan-club members at the time.

The Assassin’s Creed Odyssey live roadmap plan is the biggest and most ambitious in the franchise, giving players more story content than ever before, in a brand new, episodic format, for the two story arcs included in the Season Pass. Players will be able to dive into new episodes as they premiere, or experience the epic adventures in their entirety once all episodes are available.

The Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Season Pass includes:

· Story Arc 1 – Legacy of the First Blade: This episodic adventure will introduce players to the first hero to wield the iconic hidden blade, changing the course of history. Players will learn more about the backstory of the Assassins and why they choose to fight from the shadows. Starting December 2018, episodes will be released approximately six weeks apart.

Story Arc II – The Fate of Atlantis: In the second story arc, players will confront godly creatures and uncover the secrets of the legendary sunken city. In a surprising saga filled with twists and turns, players will get even closer to Greek mythology and the First Civilization. Coming spring 2019, episodes will be released approximately six weeks apart.

Assassin’s Creed III Remastered: Ignite the American Revolution as Connor, the master assassin, born amidst the beauty and the brutality of 18th century America. As a bloody uprising draws ever nearer, your clan is threatened by a powerful group seeking to crush the American Revolution and control the thirteen colonies. Shocked into action by the devastation of your village, you pledge your life to the cause of freedom, and embark on a decades-long quest to achieve it. Assassin’s Creed III Remastered will be released in March 2019 and will include :
All the DLC: The Benedict Arnold Missions, Hidden Secrets Pack and Tyranny of King George.
Assassin’s Creed Liberation Remastered.

The Remastered editions will feature 4K and HDR on PS4 Pro, Xbox One X and PC, higher resolution textures, a new graphics engine, and several other graphical enhancements. Gameplay mechanics and ergonomics have also been improved. Assassin’s Creed III Remastered will be sold as a stand-alone title for players who do not own the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Season Pass.

The Season Pass is included in the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Gold, Ultimate, Spartan and Pantheon Editions, and is also available for purchase separately.

In addition, an extensive lineup of free content, including new narrative content and in-game events, will be available for all players after launch, including:

The Lost Tales of Greece: Free episodic questlines will release regularly in-between episodes, providing a constant flow of new stories for players to discover. These quests will feature familiar faces and new characters from the world of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

Recurring In-Game Events: Each week a new epic ship or mercenary will appear, presenting players with challenging battles as they hunt down these powerful enemies. Daily and weekly contracts will send players on new quests across Greece.

Discovery Tour: The educational tool that lets anyone explore the game in a conflict-free environment, will be available for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Players can traverse the entire interactive 3D recreation of Ancient Greece, free of conflict, time pressure or gameplay constraints, after launch.

Many more updates, including new monstrous and mythical creatures to defeat and a New Game Plus mode presenting new challenges and the ability to see how different choices affect players’ stories.

There will be more to come as the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey development team is committed to support the game and continued improvement of the core experience with additional content, yet to be revealed.
