Kevin Riley (Eion Bailey) is a successful doctor who has worked hard to secure his family’s future. When the long hours take a toll on his relationship with his wife, Julie (Bethany Joy Lenz), and son, they decide to take a family holiday to the Caribbean. However this was not the break they pictured, and the holiday takes a dangerous turn when they become deserted on an island several miles from the mainland. When a boat comes along the family’s hopes of rescue are raised, but are quickly dashed when its cold-hearted skipper, fisherman Miguel Kaba (Barkhad Abdi), demands one million dollars in exchange for safe harbour. A tense stand-off ensues between Kevin, who is fighting to protect his family; and Miguel, whose interests lie squarely with getting his pay off – at any cost.

Review : diskAshur 2 USB Drive from iStorage

Here is our review of the diskAshur 2 USB Drive from iStorage.

An easy to use ultra-secure, PIN authenticated, portable USB 3.1 hard drive with real-time AES 256-bit XTS hardware encryption, software free design and super-fast data transfer speeds. The diskAshur2 has an easy-to-use keypad design enabling you to securely access the drive with your own unique 7-15 digit PIN and with software free setup and operation, the diskAshur2 is platform/device independent and works across all operating systems including all versions of MS Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, Chrome, Thin Clients, Zero Clients and embedded systems. In fact, it will work on any device with a USB port! One of the unique and underlying security features of the GDPR compliant diskAshur2 is the dedicated hardware based secure microprocessor (Common Criteria EAL4+ ready), which employs built-in physical protection mechanisms designed to defend against external tamper, bypass attacks and more. Unlike other solutions, the diskAshurreacts to an automated attack by entering the deadlock frozen state, which renders all such attacks as useless.

EDGE technology offers advanced portable data security via built-in FIPS PUB 197 validated AES 256-bit XTS hardware encryption engine. The data encryption key is randomly generated by a Common Criteria EAL4+ ready Random Number Generator and protected by NCSC, FIPS and Common Criteria validated wrapping algorithms.   Uniquely featuring a dedicated on-board Common Criteria EAL4+ ready secure microprocessor to enhance security through true random number generation and built-in cryptography. The security component employs physical protection mechanisms to protect itself from any external tamper, bypass laser attacks and fault injections and incorporates active-shield violation technology. More specifically, the secure microprocessor reacts to all forms of automated hacking attempts by entering the deadlock frozen state where the device can only restart through a ‘Power On’ reset procedure (i.e. power off/power on). The security lock feature protects the device against any unauthorised firmware modifications from the host side (fully protected against BadUSB). The diskAshur2 uniquely incorporates a secure microprocessor providing secure algorithms to encrypt both the data and the encryption key, giving you confidence that your data is protected to the highest standards at any given time.

What’s in the box?

The box contains the diskAshur 2, a storage case and a quick start guide.

A Closer Look

Using the diskAshur

When you used the diskAshur for the first time, the standby state shows a red locked light, as below.

You enter the default Admin PIN and wait whilst the various checks are run.

Then it’s ready to use!

Final Thoughts

The diskAsur 2 is bigger than the previous iStorage USB drives we have reviewed. It’s still fairly lightweight though so you can carry it around without feeling like you are dragging a brick around!

Including a carry case is also a great idea – it not only keeps the drive clean but it keeps it safe too!

Using the drive is very simple – just enter your code and the drive is ready to use. When you have finished with the drive just remove it and it locks automatically.

One nice feature is the ability to have an Admin code on the drive, so if you forget your code you can use that one to gain access.

You may be wondering why the drive has a keypad and why you wouldn’t just use the keyboard on your computer to unlock the drive. It’s to stop keyloggers and brute force attacks from gaining access to the drive.

If you enter your code incorrectly 15 times in a row (for example if someone else is trying to guess your code) the user code is deleted. The only way to access the drive is to use the Admin code and reset the user code. If the Admin code is then entered incorrectly 15 times in a row that too is deleted and this time all the data on the drive is also deleted thus protecting whatever you stored on it, so you should feel safe in the knowledge that whatever happens your data is safe and secure.

The drive is recharged when it is plugged into a powered USB port, so don’t worry too much about it losing charge.

Using the drive is simple – once you have entered the PIN you use it just like any other drive, only everything stored on the drive is encrypted.

Speed wise the drive delivers up to 148MB per second read and up to 140MB per second write. But remember, it is hardware based encryption so that is far more important than speed.

You can set your own unique Self Destruct PIN which can instantly delete the encryption key, all PINs, all data and then creates a new encryption key so that the drive is blank.

There is also an auto-lock feature which you can set. This will automatically lock the drive after a set period of time.

The keypad is even coated with a wear resistant epoxy so that you can’t tell which keys have been pressed more than others. When it comes to security, every little bit helps!

If you want a high capacity portable drive that is safe and secure, and comes in different colours, then look no further than the diskAshur 2.

Available now in 500GB, 1TB and 2TB, in either Fiery Red, Phantom Black, Racing Green and Ocean Blue, with prices starting around £159 (the 1TB Phantom Black drive retails for around £219).

Two Minute Review : Hape Monkey Pop-Up Track

It’s time for another two minute review: the Monkey Pop-Up Track from Hape.

Three monkeys hide in the jungle just waiting for their chance at snatching a banana treat. Watch as they hop out just as the banana car passes!

The Monkey Pop-Up Track contains 7 separate pieces that you put together – it only takes a few seconds to do that.

The three monkeys click into place ready to pop-up!

The car goes along the track and makes the monkey’s pop-up!

You can add additional pieces of track to make it bigger if you wish.

The Monkey Pop-Up Track from Hape is a very simple, yet extremely fun toy for children aged 18 months and over. There are small pieces which is why you shouldn’t give it to a child under 18 months old.

The track encourages imaginative play, creativity and helps to develop planning and logic skills.

It’s available now from Debenhams priced £15.

The Folio Society Release Dr No

The Folio Society continues their beautifully illustrated reproductions of Ian Fleming’s Bond novels with Dr No.  The third in The Folio Society’s best-selling James Bond series, Dr No once more features the talents of Fay Dalton, who has provided seven images and a stunning slipcase portraying the unforgettable Honeychile Rider.

Dr No by Ian Fleming The Folio Society edition

With a torture-loving villain, a feisty female lead and death-defying feats, including a battle with a giant squid, Dr No sees Fleming revelling in the dramatic appeal of his indestructible hero. Having recently recovered from his near-fatal poisoning at the end of From Russia with Love, Bond is sent to Jamaica for a working holiday. To his annoyance, his mission – to investigate the disappearance of two fellow MI6 operatives – sounds ‘rather like the soft life’. But the elegant Strangways and his pretty young colleague have not eloped, as M believes. Dispatched by sinister assassins, their bodies lie in a single coffin at the bottom of the Mona Reservoir. And so Bond enters an exotic and perilous world, manipulated by the sadistic Dr Julius No from the desolate Crab Key island.

Fay Dalton is a London-based illustrator. She has a first-class degree in Illustration and was the winner of the 2010 Pickled Ink Award for illustration. Fay combines traditional drawing and painting methods with digital painting. She has also illustrated Casino Royale (2015) and From Russia with Love (2016) for The Folio Society.

The presentation of the book, from the artwork on the case, to the printing on the spine, is lovely.

Having read the James Bond books when I was a child I was eager to see the illustrations from Fay Dalton and how well they integrated into the story, and I wasn’t disappointed. The  illustrations are amazing and really help to bring certain scenes to life.

If you are a fan of James Bond books, this one is a must for your collection. I look forward to getting both Casino Royale and From Russia With Love to see how Fay Dalton has illustrated them.

Available now from the Folio Society priced £34.95.

You can learn more about Dr No and other books from the Folio Society from their website.

‘A Way Out’ From Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Dev

0

Also at today EA Play conference, the company announced A Way Out from Hazelight Studios. It’s a co-op adventure about breaking out of prison. It’s designed to be a two-player split-screen game, with both story sequences and gameplay shown across two perspectives. Even if you play online, it will be split-screen.
A short demo showed how the goals toward the prison break can be accomplished in different ways, through setting accidents in motion or using your fists to wail on guards.

“This game is going to bring a co-op experience unlike anything you have ever seen before,” said Josef Fares, Writer and Director at Hazelight. “The idea for A Way Out came when me and a friend tried to find a story driven co-op game that wasn’t a drop-in/drop-out experience. We simply could not find a game like that. We’re also bringing an innovative look into how to tell the story of both these characters. Players will be immersed in the game with the way we change the display from a full screen experience seamlessly to different cinematic split-screen formats. By focusing on the two characters in different ways, it opens up a huge variety of gameplay, as we really wanted to avoid repetitions so they will get to know the characters through very different situations.”
The Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons developer draws on its experience of co-op and two perspectives, this time with two human players. It’s coming in 2018 to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
