What if Minigolf had roguelike power ups? That is surely a question not many would think requires an answer however Triheart Studios’ latest game “Golfie” aims to answer that very question.
While it is still in its early form, Golfie already has all the makings of a uniquely fun experience.
Gameplay
So obviously the gameplay resembles any old minigolf game with some wacky tracks, a few windmills here and there, and a hole you’re trying to get into at the end. There is however a twist, before each putt you draw some cards that can enhance the motion of your ball or even allow you to place objects on the track that help you in your next putt. These cards include simple augmentations like power ups, curve shots, lob shots all the way to more complex enhancements like a jetpack and a ramp you can launch your ball off of.
The main objective of the game is to complete courses while progressing through a roguelike map as you make your way to a 3 phase boss fight at the end which also requires you to use your golf ball to push some buttons and defeat a boss. I’m sure more varieties of bosses and maps will be added as the game is developed further however what is present already accounts for a pretty fun contained experience.
As you progress through the game you can also unlock more power up cards, gain some currency and unlock cosmetics for your ball. With each power up card adding to the different ways you can play through the game combining a wide array of abilities and looks.
Graphics and Sound
The game leans heavily into a stylized low poly aesthetic which makes it pretty easy on the eyes and also fairly easy to distinguish different assets during gameplay. The sound track is still very much a work in progress however the songs currently within the game to provide a nice atmosphere to get you along with multiple songs playing based on the aesthetics of different levels the sound and art direction though simple, does well to keep you engaged.
Overall Impressions and Score
I quite enjoyed my time with Golfie. The game in its current state did feel a bit short however that is to be expected as more updates continue to keep the game alive. I do hope the developers do not abandon this game as it currently has all the standings of a good casual fun experience going forward. I however cannot rate the game on where I think its going to go I can only judge what is currently available and what is currently available is a nicely put together contained experience with a nice $9 price tag you can definitely get your money’s worth of fun from this title.

Unlike its rivals, these headphones focus on touchpad controls to answer calls, skip tracks, and adjust the volume. Now, this was an interesting setup that takes some getting used to. However, once you are familiar with each swipe, tap, and hold, you’ll adore this “futuristic” arrangement.
Alongside this, there is hybrid ANC tech that creates an immersive atmosphere. On top of this, you can mute the sound by cupping the right earcup. This strange technique allows you to listen to the outside without removing your headphones. Yet, you look a little silly, so I preferred to pause what I was doing and remove the device altogether.
The ANC technology and the ambient sound were phenomenal. Both settings changed the way you listened to your music as they cancelled out up to 32dB of environmental sounds. The story follows the tale of Bub, Bob, Peb, and Pab after discovering that the whole of their homeland, Rainbow Island, has been covered in bubbles. Only the aforementioned bubble-blowing dragons will be able to eliminate the bubbles and figure out why the island is covered in bubbles. While I wasn’t expecting a complex narrative, the interactions between characters left much to be desired. Thankfully, the meta jokes and humor in some of the dialogue kept me from being completely bored with the story. Unfortunately, the plot is dull even with its occasional witty humor. While the story may not be the best the rest of the game is simply a treat to experience.

Puzzle Bobble Everybubble! features very enjoyable gameplay with lots of different modes. The basic gameplay is simple. Connect three or more bubbles of the same color to pop them. If you burst bubbles that are holding other bubbles up, those bubbles will fall off and burst as well. While seemingly simple, the gameplay has a lot of depth with its various power-ups, changing the way you think about the levels. You can even save the power-ups for later by having them drop on the ground. All of this combines into a satisfying and addicting gameplay experience. This is enhanced by the various modes on offer, including, Story, Versus, and Puzzle Bobble vs Space Invaders.

Story mode has you playing through the story of the game, going to different areas to clear all the bubbles. In each area, there are 15 levels, each of them being a mini puzzle. These puzzles may task you with bursting all the bubbles within a time limit or helping the creatures stuck inside the bubbles before the whole puzzle squishes you. While easy at first, these levels can become quite challenging and may take several attempts for even a one-star ranking. Each of the levels has a possible ranking out of three stars, which you can earn based on how quickly you complete each one. By getting three stars on every level in an area you unlock extra stages, giving you the incentive to master each level. Overall, the story mode is a great mode with lots of content to play through and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Versus
Versus mode is where you can go head-to-head locally or online. Similar to Puyo Puyo and Tetris 99 you can send grey bubbles to your opponent’s field by clearing your bubbles. A grey bubble will change to the color bubble it is hit with so you can use the grey bubbles to send a large amount of bubbles to your opponent. Bubbles that fall off also add to the damage sent. You lose by having your bubbles reach the ground. This is a fun mode that I can see myself logging hundreds of hours into. Now all we need isPuyo Puyo Tetris Puzzle Bobble.
Puzzle Bobble Vs Space Invaders
Lastly, we have Puzzle Bobble Vs Space Invaders. In this mode, you move around and dodge enemy lasers while throwing bubbles at the spaceships that are shooting at you. Each spaceship corresponds to a color and just like in the main game, you destroy the spaceships by matching them with three or more of the same color. This mode feels a little lackluster compared to the other two modes, however, it is still just as enjoyable.

Puzzle Bobble Everybubble! has a fantastic presentation, from the menus to the adorable art style and even the bright and bubbly soundtrack. The menus of this game remind me of Kirby Star Allies, with their comic book art style, and they look just as gorgeous. These menus are also very simple to navigate making it quite easy to get to the mode you want to play. All the character designs are also done in such an adorable fashion that it’s hard not to like any of them. Although the character designs are well done, the voices can sometimes become quite annoying. Thankfully the annoying voices are exclusive to the story cutscenes and they are not in the gameplay sections but it shouldn’t be an issue in the first place. Lastly, the soundtrack is well done. The soundtrack changes based on your situation, which is a really neat touch.

Puzzle Bobble Everybubble! is a fantastic game that is perfect for newcomers to the Puzzle Bobble series. The first thing you notice about the controller is that it is decked on in Forza Horizon 5 colours, and it looks cool!
The controller is fairly lightweight, although it feels very robust – which it it!
The buttons and sticks feel comfortable to use and are extremely responsive.
The unique selling point for this particular controller is that you can swap the two thumbsticks and the D-pad around. You just pull them out and move them into whichever position on the controller you want. It’s the ultimate in remapping! But it doesn’t end there! This particular controller comes with an extra module – it’s a mini steering wheel! Just pop that into place and you can use it to control the steering of your car! It’s incredibly responsive and it has a 95 degree rotation angle – it feels like you are using a steering wheel with just your thumb! When you have the racing wheel module plugged in (you’ve probably removed the D-pad to use it), the d-pad controls are automatically remapped to four buttons on the underside of the controller. The modular design works really well – and if at some point in the life of your controller you break one of the sticks, you can just buy a replacement rather than having to buy a whole new controller.
Thrustmaster have also included a bag and a small screwdriver to keep everything together and to help you remove the D-pad when the time comes.
There are also a number of buttons on the controller you can use including volume and mic.
The controller itself is wired, so you just plug in the supplied cable and start using it. It’s a shame it’s not wireless, but the cable should be long enough for most people, and you can always buy a longer cable if needed.
You can also use the ThrustmapperX software to adjust the sensitivity and other settings of the controller with ease. You can also use your Xbox to make changes too. The ThrustmapperX software is only available for Windows though, so if you are a Mac user you will have to use your Xbox.
If you are a fan of Forza Horizon 5, or you want to play other racing games, then this controller is a must have! I found that it really helped my driving – it took a little bit to get used to, but once I did I honestly believe it helped me!

However, the compact design has no rubberised finish and this may be an unfortunate oversight. It would have been nice to have a form of textured grip by the rear buttons for added comfort.
Talking of the rear buttons, these mappable inputs give you a competitive edge. Like the Elite controller, these buttons can be changed on the fly and this makes a massive difference. Whether you are trying to “no-scope” an enemy or complete a speedrun, these additional inputs make a massive difference.

The official Microsoft controllers have ruled the roost forever. However, the MOGA-XP Ultra controller gives it a run for its money. Thanks to the excellent build quality and its versatility, it is an amazing option. Brotato is the type of game that’ll make you scream. This hectic and addictive affair will drive you mad from the moment you switch it on. However, it is this moreish gameplay that makes it so incredible. As such, if you love Vampire Survivors, then I suggest you keep reading.
Developed and published by Blobfish, this is an action rogue-like title. Moreover, this arena-based shooter is fast-paced, aggressive, and tough as hell. On top of this, there are loads of weapons to master, items to purchase, and plenty of potatoes to pick from. Consequently, there are many ways to play it and trial and error will be your best friend.
Brotato has been in Early Access for some time. However, this review coincides with the full game release. Subsequently, the team has added new weapons, characters, items, and bosses to expand your horizons and the challenging gameplay.

What the heck is happening in Brotato?
Unlike Vampire Survivors, Brotato sticks to one arena. Now, you may worry that this is a bad idea. Well, worry not, as it’s utterly fascinating. The refined space creates a manic environment that is filled with projectiles, enemies, and danger. However, as you progress, it is also filled with mines, turrets, drones, and other helpful assets. Accordingly, the unruly nature of the action doesn’t allow you time to think or get bored.
The gameplay loop is easy to understand. You pick from a list of unlocked potato heroes. From here, you are thrust into a deadly arena. You must survive 20 waves of maddening action that progressively get worse. The waves get longer and last no more than 90 seconds. En route, you’ll encounter elite mobs and finally a boss battle. Subsequently, it is no mean feat and finishing the game is not for the faint of heart.
The action was phenomenal, but I was confused by the lack of storytelling. It would have been nice to have an overarching story that defined rivalries or a war between civilisations. However, this wasn’t to be and you are free to create a fitting scenario.
The heroes.
Brotato’s concept remains the same throughout unless you activate the endless mode. Yet, that option is for hardcore gamers and those who are a little sadomasochistic. Where the action alters is your character selection, the weapons you buy, and the items you invest in.
Each potato has a set of skills and strengths and weaknesses. Consequently, there is a hero to match every playstyle. Luckily, any weaknesses can be removed and strengths improved as you level up. By collecting resources, you’ll obtain XP and gold. The XP improves your level and, therefore, your skills. Gold is equally essential, as it is used to buy weapons and items at the start of each wave.

Upgrading your hero is the only way you’ll complete the game. As such, levelling up is key, but so are the weapons and items that you buy. Your hero can only wield 6 tools, so choosing the right ones isn’t an easy task. Will you stick to melee weapons but risk close-quarter combat? Or will you arm yourself with lasers, shotguns, and other guns? Whichever you select, they each have pros and cons. Alongside this, there is a tiered weapon system and you can combine equal-tiered weapons to improve your arsenal. Accordingly, there are many tactical layers that must be considered.
To complicate the matter further, the list of items appears endless. These helpful tools change every aspect of the game while strengthening your character. You’ll improve your agility, armour, speed, accuracy, and much more. Alongside this, you can invest in turrets, drones, mines, and so forth. Effectively, the combination of weapons and items creates a super vegetable hero that changes on every playthrough.

Vampire Survivors is an exceptional game. Yet, it isn’t that attractive. Yes, I liked its pixelated style, but it won’t be for everyone. Thankfully, Brotato has removed this concern. Not only does it compete with its gameplay, but it looks incredible as well. In fact, the developers have somehow made potatoes look beautiful. Moreover, the varied sprites are great and the refined arena prevents it from becoming overbearing.
The audio, on the other hand, rattles your senses. The aggressive and upbeat soundtrack is punctuated by insane sound effects. The consistent noise gets under your skin and drives you crazy. Yet, this cacophony of noises works perfectly as you slay each creature in sight.
