CloudBerry Backup Adds Amazon Glacier Support

CloudBerry’s backup solution has added Amazon Glacier support.  Read on for details.

CloudBerry has added support for Amazon’s Glacier service, which is lower cost than S3.  Here is what CloudBerry announced:

CloudBerry S3 Backup is a powerful Windows program that automate backup and restore processes to Amazon S3 cloud storage. Now with Amazon Glacier support.

Amazon Glacier, a secure, reliable and low cost storage service designed for data archiving and backup. In order to keep costs low, Amazon Glacier is optimized for data that is infrequently accessed and for which retrieval times of several hours are suitable. With Amazon Glacier, you can reliably store large or small amounts of data for as little as $0.01 per gigabyte per month.

The latest release of CloudBerry Backup comes with full support for Amazon Glacier. Using the product you can move your files to Glacier vaults taking advantage of the extremely low cost storage .

Note. Current version of CloudBerry Backup doesn’t allow you:

1. Restore the files stored in Glacier Vaults and updated version with the Glacier restore is coming shortly. You should use CloudBerry Explorer to restore the files

2. Doesn’t allows you to encrypt and compress files yet. This is also coming in the future release.

This is good news as Amazon S3 can get a little pricey, but I think I would wait to jump on this until encryption is fully implemented.  If you are interested, cruise on over to CloudBerry and check it out!

Sky adds new Catch Up TV service to Sky+ and launches 2TB Sky+HD box

Sky+, Britain’s most popular personal video recorder, is getting even bigger and better with the launch this week of a brand new Catch Up TV service, more personal storage and new ways for customers to interact with their favourite TV shows.

catch_up_tv

The wave of new features marks the latest stage in the ongoing development of Sky+, which is now enjoyed in over nine million homes – more than all of the other competing pay TV services added together. In the last two years, Sky+ has introduced TV on demand, hundreds of the latest DVD releases to rent through Sky Store and a new EPG making it easier to find what to watch. More than a decade after launch, Sky+ was heralded by T3 magazine this month as retaining its place as ‘King of the TV services jungle’. Last month alone, Sky+ generated more than 1.2 billion sessions of time-shifted viewing as customers took control of their own TV schedule.

Catch Up TV

From today, Sky+ is giving customers even more flexibility by adding a new 7-day Catch Up TV section to its On Demand* service. Customers will be able to keep up to date with their favourite Sky shows and also get programmes from ITV Player and Demand 5. With BBC iPlayer coming this autumn and 4oD arriving in early 2013, the Catch Up service will keep getting better, with programmes from the most popular free-to-air and pay channels all seamlessly integrated into the Sky+ experience. Sky’s On Demand service also includes access to box sets such as Mad Men, An Idiot Abroad and Mad Dogs available at no extra charge to Sky customers.

Everything is separated into simple categories so it is easy to find what you want to watch and search by most popular, by genre and by day. So if customers hear about a show they missed or forget to record a crucial episode, it will be ready and waiting for them. All they need to do to access Catch Up is to activate On Demand and connect the Sky+HD box to their broadband router – all for no extra monthly cost.

More personal storage

Coinciding with the roll-out of Catch Up TV, Sky customers will now also be able to store more of their favourite shows than ever before with the launch this week of a new Sky+HD 2TB box. In response to customer demand for extra space to store their favourite TV shows, the Sky+HD 2TB box provides six times more storage than a regular Sky+HD box.

The Sky+HD 2TB box offers more personal storage than any other subscription TV provider, for example customers can record three times more high definition (HD) TV than with Virgin Media. Sky customers will be able to use the massive capacity to store up to 350 hours of HD content, equivalent to more than two weeks’ worth of HD TV viewing.

New ways to interact

Meanwhile, away from the main TV screen, Sky+ customers will also be able to start using the exciting new Sky+ app for iPad that lets them connect to online communities around virtually every show on TV, across Sky and other channels. Through the app, which goes live this week, Sky customers can interact more fully with content than ever before, following and contributing to online chat via an in-built Twitter feed, plus gain easy access to a range of extra information related to the show they are watching. So whether a Sky customer wants to find out more about a particular actor in a drama, or buy a piece of music featured on a TV show’s soundtrack, they will be able to use the Sky+ app to find out more.

The immersive second-screen functionality – powered by the augmented TV specialists zeebox – is available in addition to existing features offered by the app which hand more control back to Sky customers over their viewing experience. These include being able to use the app to change the channels on their TV through a swipe of their fingers on the iPad, as well as browse their Sky+ planner through the app, adding and deleting shows without interrupting their viewing on the main TV set. The Sky+ app for iPad is available to Sky TV customers at no extra charge.

Netccentric Launches New “Social Blog Stalking” App

0

Netccentric has launched a new service for keeping tabs on blogs, called NuffnangX.  Read on for details.

clip_image002

Netccentric has launched what they are calling a social blog stalking app, called Nuffnangx.  It operates as a blog aggregation service.  Here is the announcement:

Social blog stalking revolutionising the blogosphere

NuffnangX launched to bring social and mobile layers to the blogosphere

London, 18 September 2012 – Netccentric, one of Asia’s largest online social and media ventures with a community of over one million bloggers, has today launched NuffnangX, the new ‘social blog stalking’ app that allows users to find, follow AND communicate with fellow bloggers and readers. NuffnangX aims to revolutionise the blogosphere by bringing together all aspects of blog discovery and consumption in to one user-friendly, on-the-go platform.

The beauty of NuffnangX lies in its ability to take the hassle out of blog interaction with three key features:

Find new reads – The Internet is literally swarming with blogs and content to discover; however, likelihood suggests that a large percentage of it won’t be of interest to you personally. Without sifting through each blog individually, there has been no way to pull out blogs and content to read, until now.

NuffnangX’s recommended lists, highlight new, high quality content from over 20 categories such as fashion and shopping to technology and food – NuffnangX trawls the blogosphere so you don’t have to.

Follow your favourites – Everyone’s favourite blogs are now available in one place and can be added to the user’s feed so they are always up to speed on the latest news, views and reviews. NuffnangX patent pending algorithm pulls that sentence which most accurately reflects the content of the post (the ‘elevator pitch’), instead of using the often unhelpful first line of the blog, so users can quickly decide whether a post is interesting enough to read – a great time saver that takes the guess work out of reading content on new blogs.

Enhance communications – NuffnangX Conversations allows users to communicate with each other, friends and the actual writer behind the blog. Gone are the days of scrolling through pages of irrelevant comments to find the relevant response. With NuffnangX, users can carry on a conversation with others in a private window or can read other archived conversations.

Discussing the motivation behind the new social blog stalking app, Cheo Ming Shen, founder of NuffnangX comments, “The popularity of blogging has gone through the roof in recent years. Although this has led to an abundance of high quality and varied content, which can only be a good thing, it has meant searching for the right blog content for you can be a long and arduous task. The aim of NuffnangX is to allow people to easily access their favourite blogs on the go and perhaps even strike gold with some great new content in the process.”

“At Netccentric, we are also wary that the popularity of social sites, such as Twitter and Facebook, could see the death of prose as we know it today. Short-form communication is becoming more and more prevalent and we’re looking to encourage users to reengage with the written word through blogging and social blog stalking.”

NuffnangX is available to download on Android and iOS for FREE and can be accessed online at http://www. nuffnangx.com/

Sony Computer Entertainment UK has announced an internship with the developer of Little Big Planet for the PS Vita.  To enter the competition, just design a mini-game for the PS Vita version of Little Big Planet.  If your minigame is chosen, you get a one month internship working for the developer of LBP for the Vita!  Cool, huh?  Here are the details:

London, 25th September 2012: Sony Computer Entertainment UK has today revealed details of a search for PlayStation’s next intern – sure to be sought-after by anyone looking to gain experience in the gaming industry. The month-long position, hosted by Swedish Studio Tarsier, will be awarded to the applicant who can create the best mini-game using upcoming PlayStation®Vita title, LittleBigPlanetPlayStation®Vita.

Sackboy’s first PS Vita adventure will be let loose on September 19th. Once the game is launched, would-be interns will have one month to get to grips with the all-new minigame creation feature and submit their efforts for consideration.

To test and review each entry PlayStation has assembled a crack team of portable gaming aficionados from across Europe. These PlayStation Judges will put each minigame through its paces before selecting a top five from each country. The final decision will then be handed over to the team at Tarsier – the studio behind LittleBigPlanetPlayStation®Vita – to choose the overall winner. Submissions will be judged on gameplay, originality, and commercial appeal.

PlayStation has collaborated with Moleskine to create custom edition LittleBigPlanet notebooks. The top five finalists from each participating country will each receive one of these.

The overall winner will be flown to Sweden where they’ll spend one month working within the different departments of Tarsier, polishing their title from amateur excellence to a fully-fledged piece of official DLC.

Elliott Linger, Product Manager for LittleBigPlanet PlayStation Vita said: “Gaming is an exciting and fast-growing industry but it can be tricky to get your foot in the door. This internship offers a whole month’s experience at a great studio, all for creating an awesome minigame. We’re expecting hundreds of entries and can’t wait to see what players of LittleBigPlanetPlayStation®Vita come up with.”
