ReCore Definitive Edition announced for release on the 29th August

0

ReCore was a game that had some very good potential as a new franchise, but it felt a bit incomplete for a game. It was somewhat surprising to see Microsoft trot out a new and shiny ReCore Definitive Edition with a new free expansion for folks who have already purchase the game.

Check out the trailer that they showed off during the Xbox Gamescom 2017 live stream.

Jon Baker (Shepard) and Frank “Ponch” Poncherello (Peña) have just joined the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Los Angeles, but for very different reasons. Poncherello is a cocky undercover Federal agent investigating a multi-million-dollarheist that may be an inside job—inside the CHP.

The inexperienced rookie and the hardened pro are teamed together, but clash more than click, so kick-starting a real partnership is easier said than done. But with Baker’s unique bike skills and Ponch’s street savvy it might just work…if they don’t drive each other crazy first.

“CHIPS: Law & Disorder” also stars Rosa Salazar (“Insurgent”), Adam Brody (“Think Like a Man Too”), Kristen Bell (“Bad Moms”), and Vincent D’Onofrio (“Jurassic World”).

“CHIPS: Law & Disorder” was produced by Andrew Panay (“Earth to Echo,” “Wedding Crashers”), who previously produced Shepard’s “Hit & Run,” and Ravi Mehta (“Get Hard”), and is based on the popular television series created by Rick Rosner. To celebrate the release of American Gods Season 1 on Blu-ray and DVD, we are offering you the chance to win a copy on Blu-ray along with a copy of the book.

When Shadow Moon is released from prison, he meets the mysterious Mr. Wednesday and a storm begins to brew. Little does Shadow know, this storm will change the course of his entire life. Left adrift by the recent, tragic death of his wife, and suddenly hired as Mr. Wednesday’s bodyguard, Shadow finds himself in the centre of a world that he struggles to understand. It’s a hidden world where magic is real, where the Old Gods fear both irrelevance and the growing power of the New Gods, like Technology and Media. Mr. Wednesday seeks to build a coalition of Old Gods to defend their existence in this new America, and reclaim some of the influence that they’ve lost. As Shadow travels across the country with Mr. Wednesday, he struggles to accept this new reality, and his place in it.

Based on the critically acclaimed international best-selling book by Neil Gaiman (‘The Sandman’, ‘Coraline’), AMERICAN GODS comes to Blu-ray, DVD and digital download via TV powerhouse showrunners Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Pushing Daisies) and Michael Green (Heroes, screenwriter of Logan, Alien: Covenant and Blade Runner 2049). With an all-star cast that includes Ricky Whittle (The 100, Hollyoaks) as Shadow Moon; Ian McShane (Deadwood, Ray Donovan) as Mr. Wednesday; Emily Browning (Sucker Punch, Legend) as Laura Moon and Pablo Schreiber (Orange Is The New Black) as Mad Sweeney. Gillian Anderson (The X-Files,The Fall) as Media; Kristin Chenoweth (Pushing Daisies, Wicked) as Easter; Jonathan Tucker (Kingdom) as Low Key Lyesmith; Cloris Leachman (Malcom in The Middle, Raising Hope) as Zorya Vechernyaya; Peter Stormare (Fargo, Prison Break) as Czernobog; Chris Obi (Snow White And The Huntsman, The Counselor) as Anubis; Demore Barnes (12 Monkeys) as Mr. Ibis, Corbin Bernsen (LA Law) as Vulcan and Mousa Kraish (Superbad, Fast & Furious) as The Jinn round out what must be 2017’s most impressive ensemble cast.

An epic tale rooted in an alien and yet familiar landscape, AMERICAN GODS represents a perfect storm of creativity that sees Fuller and Green at the dizzying height of their powers. Alongside Gaiman himself, they’ve brought a world to screen that is the stuff the most fantastical, shocking and absolutely riveting box set dreams are made of.

Arena of Valor arrives for iOS/Android

Very good news for all MOBA fans and gamers: One of the most successful mobile MOBAs is now available on the European market: “Arena of Valor” the long awaited smash hit from Tencent’s division Proxima Beta can now be downloaded from the Google Play Store and iOS App Store.

Delivering authentic and challenging 5v5 MOBA gameplay, Arena of Valor is already a huge success in MOBA dominated gaming nations of South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. It is also the first title to lead the download charts of both the Google Play Store and the App Store for several months. In addition, after only a year on the market it has already gained a well-established eSports-community in Asia, with a line of successful tournaments taking place.

Bringing true MOBA gameplay to the mobile dominion

The developers of Arena of Valor have made sure to include all the important MOBA elements and has optimised them for mobile gaming. The game features fast paced combat on a classical battlefield with three lanes and towers to conquer, a jungle filled with monsters, as well as various gameplay modes, from 5v5 for large parties over 3v3 matches to a 1v1-mode for small rounds among friends.

The gameplay time for each mode won’t usually last longer than 10 minutes and is perfect for a gamers’ daily commute to to school or work, or to play during a  lunch break. The starting line up of heroes is very impressive with more than 42 heroes available, be it marksman, tanks, assassins, mages or warrior.  Players can look forward to the list of heroes being continuously extended.

On the community side, Arena of Valor makes sure to deliver a true MOBA-experience. Players will be able to match up in real-time with gamers from all around the globe,or just invite their friends to form victorious alliances and battle their way up to the top of global ranks. All this is enhanced by a first-class soundtrack from the master of soundtracks, Hans Zimmer himself.

The best part however: Arena of Valor is all about a gamers’ skill. The developers at Tencent aimed to create a MOBA in which the prowess on the battlefield will decide the outcome of a game, instead of the amount of money invested. Thus the majority of available heroes are unlockable via in-game currency, to be earned by playing the game and completing quests.

Review: Agents of Mayhem

I loved Saints Row because of its pure arcade action and fun but the humour and characters were engraved into my mind and my soul. As a series though, it really reached its peak with Saints Row IV, well that and the fact the Earth was completely destroyed by an alien invasion. This all pretty much made the possibility of a next Saints Row game hard to picture, but the fun that the virtual playground that Saints Row IV lived in created a very interesting use of super powers and now its creators Volition have side stepped that in favour of a new game but very much keeping in the tone of Saints Row. Agents of Mayhem is the evolution of Saints Row and it manages to carry on that torch really well.

The world is in trouble after LEGION, the evil military force of head bad guy Morningstar, has taken over thanks to the advanced teleportation technology which enabled them to instantaneously appear in all the major countries forcing their governments to surrender. Now only one agency is equipped to fight back, MAYHEM. Led by former Legion Minister Persephone, the twelve Agents of Mayhem must use their unique fighting gifts and talents to take the fight to LEGION, and to stop their goal which has brought the fighting to Seoul and to end the plotting of Doctor Babylon who has something in mind for this city and its resources.

The gameplay for Agents of Mayhem is a very interesting twist on the style of Saints Row and focuses on a refreshing take on squad team ups. For AoM (Agents of Mayhem) using a 3 in 1 squad dynamic which will see the player setup a team of three agents to deploy in the city and on the campaign’s story missions. Only one agent can be controlled at a time but the ability to hot switch immediately to another agent in the team can help adapt gameplay to any situation the game will throw at you. Agents all have their own individual fighting style and talents but also have a particular specialisation such as being able to do damage to enemies or structures with shield or armour whilst others are capable of hacking LEGION systems. Now how you form your team will be shaped not just on the fun of the agents themselves but also using a strategic need to balance their abilities to suit the missions. Enemies can have either armour or shields or both, so having a team that is suited to taking on such enemies is key to why the hot switching between the team of three is so key. During a battle if a high level enemy appears, the agent best suited to taking them on will speak up to guide the player to switch to them to do the most damage.

The twelve Agents are the highlight of this game for me and is far more diverse in their character designs than I had hoped for. As characters they have clearly been inspired by the cast of Saints Row with bombastic personalities but for the first time, they are playable instead of just being background characters. From Hollywood the big screen actor looking to save his career to Rami the archer who is helping MAYHEM in the hopes of finding a cure to the plague ravaging her home of Mumbai and my personal favourite Daisy, the roller derby tough as nails star who skates around with her mini-gun just looking to tear the place up. Each agent has their own personal reason for joining MAYHEM and a back-story that links them to other members of MAYHEM which the game explores through the side missions called Operations, which is the way to unlock agents to use in the game outside of natural unlocking of some via the main campaign missions. The more you use an agent the more XP they earn which can then be used to upgrade their skills and abilities making them stronger. Agents can also be equipped with up to three gadgets which give additional buffs to abilities and something that surprised me, damage over time and status effects to attacks. I never expected the combat to be more than just shooting or hitting but this gives the fighting a real depth and RPG element as you work to develop the most powerful team of agents you can through the game.

To begin with agents can be leveled up to 20 but in order to get them to their maximum potential you will need to use Power Cores to boost them another 20 ‘Super Agent’ levels to fully max out their skills. At level 40 agents are truly powerful fighters but the game will also balance the difficulty according to the strength of your team, so nothing will be a cake walk especially in the later stages of the campaign when all of your agents are hitting that maximum super agent level. Now the game will allow you to turn the difficulty down before deploying your team in the field, this will reduce the amount of XP and money you can earn from gameplay and missions but if the game is kicking your butt, which believe me even with a fully powered up team the game will do which is a harshness I will come to a bit alter on, but does allow players to keep the action going without feeling too overwhelmed.

The RPG elements truly give a depth I had not expected, with leveling up agents being a natural part of the game but to add the ability to craft them beyond that with gadgets to more abilities and then on top of that, the gadgets can be further enhanced with captured Legion Tech just gives extra levels on top of what is already there for the player to enjoy. Evolving the agents will make deciding which ones to use a difficult choice but they are all such fun to use.

So like Saints Row, AoM has a city in which players can free roam to do side missions and find collectibles and the city of Seoul with various tasks to complete as well but it is for me, the presentation of the main campaign. Everything is put together like an 80’s Cartoon series with the cut scenes telling the story. Each episode focuses on taking on one of Doctor Babylon’s lieutenants with the objective of weakening his forces in order to draw Babylon out himself. The strength of the story campaign and AoM comes in the humour, which is very much in line with that of Saints Row but has a much slower delivery pace I found which made it more enjoyable over the 30 plus hours I put into my review playthrough which meant the longer I played there was always something to enjoy and find out about this world and the many agents and characters in it. On board the Ark, the hub flying fortress that MAYHEM uses as a base, there is a database which allows the player to watch any and all cut scenes from the story and individual agents including the back story of the mysterious but beautiful Persephone once enough story progress is made.

AoM feels like the next natural step from Saints Row and whilst it uses the same iconic purple colour scheme and Fleur logo, it plays different enough to make it stand out. The gameplay is rewarding thanks to the RPG elements and with such terrific detail in character design that makes each agent play very different that trying out different combinations is and will be satisfying to players. I love the animations of some of the MAYHEM supermoves, which each agent has and is tailored so well to their character such as Hollywood’s which has him able to fire his gun continuously until the MAYHEM metre is spent but has pyrotechnic explosions going off around him as he moves around to give extra damage to enemies or Oni who enhances his ability to scare the enemy by boosting his aura making all enemies around him panic and run. These are such fun to pull off in the middle of a huge fight and are so different for each Agent it just highlights the real attention to detail in the design that along with a fun story, wonderfully animated cutscenes just brings the whole of AoM together nicely. Even the different skins for each agent reflects this as there are some amazing skins for them with references to modern day geekdom as some will be vary recognisable such as plenty of MARVEL nods, DC Comics nods but also some nice little nods to 80’s such as Yeti with his Panthro from Thundercats skin. It is all just nerdtastic fun and a nice reward for just playing the game and exploring.

I was not sure want to expect from Agents of Mayhem when I first learned about it. Being a Saints Row fan, the thought of a spin off was troubling but with how AoM has been put together, Volition has both started a new potential game series but also a new way forward for future possible Saints Row titles. It looks amazing, though still has some issues with vehicle use and a rather harsh “oh you got a fully powered up team, well let me just show you how killable you are” difficulty spike in the later stages but overall Agents of Mayhem is just great arcade fun to have with surprising depth to it and plenty of room to tell more stories based on the forces of MAYHEM battling LEGION. If you liked Saints Row then you will certainly enjoy this and if you are new, there are plenty of refreshing new gameplay to satisfy you.

Lando Norris Takes F1 2017 For A Test Drive

0

McLaren Young Driver Lando Norris recently test drove a host of his team’s classic FORMULA ONE cars, as well as the striking MCL32 from this year’s championship, in F1 2017, the official videogame of the 2017 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP.

Codemasters and Koch Media have today released a new trailer which showcases Norris taking on the new Japan Short circuit and talking about how each of the cars feels to drive.

The exciting young driver, just 17, recently took part in the official FORMULA ONE testing at the Hungaroring, setting the second fastest time behind World Championship leader Sebastian Vettel’s Ferrari.

“Getting behind the wheel for the first time was a really great feeling – after my test in the 2017 car in Hungary, I’m happy to confirm that these cars are much faster and more intense to drive, and that really comes across in the new game,” commented Norris. “I think people are going to have a lot of fun driving the new breed of Grand Prix car in F1 2017.”

He continued: “It was also a really nice experience to get to re-live several chapters of McLaren’s past by driving classic cars from 1988, 1991, ’98 and 2008, each representing a world championship success for the team. The 2008 title-winning car has tons of downforce, and is a lot of fun to throw about. The heritage cars are really the icing on the cake.”

In addition to all the official teams, cars, drivers and circuits from the current scintillating season, F1 2017 features 12 classic cars from McLaren, Ferrari, Williams, Renault and Red Bull Racing. There are also four brand new shortened circuits in Britain, Bahrain, USA and Japan as well as the chance to race around the famous Monaco street circuit at night. F1 2017 releases onto PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC (DVD and via Steam) worldwide on August 25th.

Review: Samsung S8 what is the Infinity Display on the S8 like?

Back in March of this year Samsung announced the Samsung Galaxy S8 (Amazon UK under £600) and S8+. They both feature a new curved edge “Infinity Display” which is designed to give maximum screen size, whilst maintaining a small phone size, with a 5.8inch screen on the S8 and a 6.2inch on the S8+. Both smartphones feature a 12 megapixel rear camera with an f/1.7 aperture, and optical image stabilisation (OIS).

This review sample was sent by the kind people from Vodafone UK

Front of the Samsung Galaxy S8

The front camera has been updated to an 8 megapixel camera, with a bright f/1.7 aperture.

a pair of AKG headphones
Micro USB to USB type C converter and USB connector is in the S8 box
finger print sensor and main camera

A second front camera has been added for face recognition which can be used to unlock the phone.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Features

The Samsung Galaxy S8 camera remains very similar to the excellent camera found in the Samsung Galaxy S7, with a 12-megapixel dual pixel sensor, and a f/1.7 aperture on both the front and rear cameras. There have been updates made to the software, with the camera app now featuring “Bixby Vision” built-in – letting you search the internet for similar items to what you’ve taken a photo of.

Bixby

The Galaxy S8 has the latest SnapDragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. There is the capability to insert a microSD card into the phone, allowing for much greater storage when you’re taking lots of pictures, although most people probably won’t need it.
The S8 is also dust resistant and water resistant,  it can withstand a half – hour dunking up to 1.5m down. It’s also got protection if you drop it – Corning Gorilla Glass 5 is used on both the screen and the back panel, making it tough.
The 12 megapixel back camera has 1.4um pixels, which are quite large for a smartphone, and allow the sensor to gather more light, and the camera also has optical image stabilisation. Touch focus can be used and 4K video can be recorded whilst simultaneously capturing 9-megapixel images. With incredibly fast autofocus, thanks to every pixel on the dual pixel sensor being used for phase detection. This means that the autofocus of the phone is blisteringly fast, capturing sudden movements.
There is a built-in LED flash on the rear, and the front screen can be used as a selfie flash when using the front camera, in low-light conditions.
Shooting modes include Auto, pro, panorama, selective focus, slow-motion, hyper lapse, food and virtual shot.

Samsung S8 Fast Charger

You get fast charging if you use the charger that came with the S8

The front “selfie” camera has been updated to an 8-megapixel camera, with a bright f/1.7 aperture, and auto-focus. Next to this, you can see an additional front camera, which is used for face recognition which can be used to unlock the phone. You can also use Iris recognition to unlock the phone or the fingerprint sensor on the back. There are additional sensors on the front as well (on the left). The front camera features Auto HDR and can record video up to QHD resolution (2560×1440), and FullHD with HDR.
As with all smart devices these days, it’s simple to share your images via Wi-Fi or on social media through the various apps available.

Volume rocker and Bixby button
Power button on the right side of the S8

There is no longer a dedicated home button, instead, the button is on the screen. On the left-hand side are volume buttons, and a new “Bixby” button, and on the right-hand side is the power button.

Key Features
12-megapixel Dual Pixel rear camera, 1.4micron pixels
f/1.7 aperture, 26mm equivalent lens with Optical Image Stabilisation
8-megapixel front camera with f/1.7, and AF, 25mm equivalent.
Auto HDR (front and rear cameras), Raw shooting possible in Pro mode
4K UHD video capability whilst capturing 9-megapixel stills
Dustproof and waterproof to 1.5m for up to 30 mins
5.8inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED (2960×1440) with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 (S8+: 6.2inch)
3000mAh battery (S8+: 3500mAh)
MicroSD slot, Fingerprint Sensor
Available in a number of colours
Samsung Galaxy S8 Handling

The Samsung Galaxy S8 looks rather nice, and photos don’t particularly do it justice, as often it just looks like a flat black soap like object. However, the curved front and back of the smartphone, as well as the large screen with thin edges, makes the smartphone almost feel like all you’re holding is a screen. One issue with the design of the S8 is the position of the fingerprint sensor, which is likely to cause you to put your finger over the camera lens, causing smudges, and lowering image quality. You can avoid this, however, by using one of the other methods for unlocking the phone (pin/pattern or iris scanner).

There are a number of shooting modes available including Auto, Pro, Panorama, Selective Focus, Slow motion, Hyperlapse, Food, and Virtual shot. You can even download additional (free) shooting modes from Samsung, including Animated GIF, Beauty Face, Sports Shot, Dual Camera, and more. To view the modes available you simply slide your finger from the left to right. Sliding your finger from the right to left will bring up the effects available within the camera app. When using the selfie camera, there are a number of built-in effects available.

The camera app is easy to use and it’s quick and easy to find options and change settings. The screen looks good whether used inside or outside, and it has an impressive resolution.

Bixby Vision requires the creation of a Samsung account and can help you find Wine, Text, Images or Shopping products similar to what you’ve pointed the camera at.

Battery life

The Samsung Galaxy S8 has a 3000mAh battery, which is not removable. The phone should last at least a day, and the battery life appeared good even though the smartphone has an always on display that shows the time on screen. There are options to optimise battery life with different power saving modes.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Verdict

It seems strange that changing the screen ratio has made such a huge impact on the enjoyment of a smartphone, but a taller, narrower screen, means you’ve got plenty of space for apps, but you can also reach from one side to the other with one hand, and I’m able to reach the top and bottom of the phone with my thumb. The Samsung Galaxy S8 makes all other phones seem bulky with large frames, like when flatscreen TVs first came out and had huge frames.

The S8 has all of the benefits of the S7, including the same camera, waterproofing, MicroSD card slot, but with exceptional design improvements, increased memory and storage, as well as improved performance. The Samsung Galaxy S7 has one of the best cameras on a smartphone available, and the S8, with effectively the same camera, gives similarly excellent results, with one of the brightest lenses available at an impressive f/1.7. The camera is also capable of taking sharp, detailed images that look great, with colour that pops. With optical image stabilisation, ultra-fast phase-detection focus, and a 12-megapixel sensor, combined with a bright aperture, the S8 performs admirably in low-light.
The camera app gives excellent control, particularly in the Pro mode, where you can change manual settings, and shoot raw images. There are numerous shooting modes and effects, as well as the option to download additional features straight into the camera app. Add in the fact that you can use the camera underwater if the opportunity comes about, and you have an extremely capable camera, and smartphone, at your disposal.
If you want to shoot photos with your smartphone, and want one of the best possible cameras available, as well as a phone that impresses with a large 5.8inch screen, and a stylish design, then the Samsung Galaxy S8 is definitely at the cutting edge. For those that don’t like the recent trend of smartphones growing in size, the Samsung Galaxy S8 offers an impressive screen size, whilst remaining compact thanks to the tall, but narrow display.

One of the best phones I have used today hands down.

Pros

  • Beautiful screen and phone design
  • Bright f/1.7 lens for front and rear cameras
  • 4K (UHD) video recording
  • Extremely fast camera focus
  • Adobe DNG raw shooting
  • Optical image stabilisation
  • Waterproof
  • Under £600 on Amazon UK sim free

Cons

  • Rear fingerprint sensor position

Again I like to thank Vodafone UK for the review sample.

“From the beginning, we committed ourselves at Boss Key to find the fun first when making LawBreakers, and place gameplay ahead of everything else. Since then, we’ve worked to push the genre into a new direction, taking everything we’ve learned in the past to deliver a super fast FPS that challenges gamers to be their best and truly compete in gravity-defying  combat,” said Cliff Bleszinski, co-founder and CEO, Boss Key Productions.

“We’re thankful to all the fans that participated in the various alphas and betas we rolled out. We always strived to do “open development,” and found that being upfront and honest with our testing, along with no NDAs, provided invaluable, transparent feedback. Without this rapport, the game wouldn’t be what it is today – and we think we have something really special because of it.”

Review: X Field Paintball Game 3

X Field Paintball looks to take the real life sensation of competitive paint balling and put it into video game form. It’s an interesting idea, so what about its execution.

X Field Paintball 3 looks to bring something different to eSports, however its execution is severely lacking, to the point I had to wonder how this got the green light in its current stage.

The only game mode that was available to me was 1 vs. 1 where the goal is to eliminate the other team, gain as many points as you can and press the buzzer located at their base. You can give commands to your team mates in order to work out a strategy to best go forward and even switch between offence and defence, depending on the situation.

The arenas themselves look to be pretty authentic, however the PS2 visuals doesn’t help to try and immerse you into it, especially as it’s an actual sport. The controls felt really wonky and the janky character models and movement doesn’t make me feel I’m in an actual paintball tournament.

The settings themselves didn’t have any graphics options, to the point that I couldn’t even choose the window size, something that should be basic in this day and age.

As for actually playing online, well unfortunately, I couldn’t get into a game no matter how long I waited (and believe me I waited). Was that due to server issues or perhaps not many people playing online, who knows? Is this also a reflection of the actual quality of the game as well? Well that would be a resounding yes!

The one thing that really baffles me about this is that the game was initially released for 24.99 and it was in a similar state, why it wasn’t put into early access from the beginning and from there have the fans help give feedback and support it would have done a lot more for it in the long run.

I honestly believe this could have been something special and it looks like to me that it was just pushed out the door too quickly. Both 1 and 2 were released on mobile and have apparently had great success, so If this is taken back into development for a couple more years, then yes we definitely have something on our hands here, but for now it’s even less than a shadow for what is full potential could be.
