Youth Concern has been awarded a £1,000 donation from Vodafone U.K. The charity collected the Vodafone Community Connection Award this week after the store team in Aylesbury chose the deserving cause.

Launched in 2014, Vodafone’s Community Connection Awards have already made a difference to more than 170 local communities across the UK. Selected by local Vodafone staff and aimed at supporting local causes with a £1,000 donation, the awards have been used to help fund everything from new equipment for soup kitchens and day centres for the elderly to helping people with disabilities to take part in sporting activities.

Youth Concern offers guidance and counselling for vulnerable people aged 13-25. This support covers a range of issues from education and employment to housing and mental health. The charity also runs the Aylesbury Nightstop Programme which provides emergency accommodation – for up to 7 nights – for young people facing homelessness.

The Vodafone Community Connection Award will help fund a new project called ‘The Next Step’ which will provide those in need with alternative accommodation for up to a year as well as bespoke support packages to help people living independently.

Fran Borg-Wheeler, CEO at Youth Concern said, “We’re really grateful to have been selected for a Vodafone Community Connection Award it will help to make “The Next Step’ project a reality. We believe that every young person needs a safe home and this award will be a big step to making that possible in Aylesbury.”

Wayne Brown, Vodafone Store Manager in Aylesbury said, “We are absolutely delighted to donate £1,000 to Youth Concern. After hearing about ‘The Next Step’ project I knew we had made a terrific decision selecting them as our award winner. The donation will go towards an amazing development that will have a lasting impact for young people in our community.”

Review: Google 3 XL is it the King in Photo’s?

When Google launched the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL a few months ago come with the latest from the Android world, upgraded hardware specifications, and more importantly, lots of machine learning.

Let’s take a closer look at the latest Google flagship phone, Pixel 3 XL.

Google Pixel 3 XL runs on Android 9 Pie, the latest Android OS iteration.

The new mobile OS itself is a big leap forward from the previous versions of Android, especially in terms of display and battery optimisation. The software also brings a set of Pixel-exclusive features.

Fast charger, USB type C cable, headphone jack apadter, usb type C headphones

Pixel 3 XL features Apple iPhone X-like gestures with a small pill at the bottom. The gestures are simple with a small swipe up to pull recent apps and a long one for the menu. It does take some time to get a hang of the gestures but soon enough you’ll find it more intuitive.

Pixel 3 XL also comes with Android Pie’s ‘Adaptive Battery’, one of the most important features of the OS. This AI-based feature studies your phone’s usage and accordingly limits battery usage for apps used seldom.

You’re also notified about the battery’s usage pattern and when the juice will possibly run out. When it comes to battery life, Pixel 3 XL runs for an entire day starting with 100%.

Pixel 3 XL
Key specs:

6.3-inch OLED notched display with QHD+ resolution

Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor

4GB of RAM,64/128GB storage

3,430mAh battery

Price starting from £869 for 64GB Storage (Price is £769 at the time of writing for a new year special discount from Google Store) but still available from Vodafone UK on pay monthly deals.

If the phone is put through excessive use, the battery does trickle down faster and heats up a little too. For example, when I was using the Pixel 3 XL as a Wi-Fi hotspot for almost an hour the phone started to heat. It isn’t alarming though.

Delving further into its performance, the Pixel 3 XL runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor. As expected from a flagship smartphone, the Pixel 3 XL runs smooth across regular apps like WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook. Also with a RAM size of 4GB, Pixel 3 XL still offers solid performance.

Welcome to the big notch

We also played the most popular smartphone game, PUBG Mobile, on the Pixel 3 XL. PUBG Mobile is optimised for phones with low specs and the opposite. We played PUBG Mobile with the highest graphics and frame rate option. The game runs effortlessly smooth on the Pixel 3 XL and never stutters even though it heats up a little bit, and yes it plays Foritnite with no problems at all.

We got some consistently good results in the game proving that the Pixel 3 XL can be of a big advantage when it comes to smartphone gaming.

The Pixel 3’s dual front speakers are very impressive and were a delight when streaming videos and shows.

With the Pixel 3 XL’s camera performance where software does most of the magic. A small recap – Google Pixel 3 XL features a 12-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, dual pixel phase detection, OIS and EIS, and f/1.8 aperture. On the front, it features dual 8-megapixel cameras (wide-angle and normal sensors). Google Pixel 3 XL delivers impressive results in daylight. But there’s more to the camera.

A little while ago the Google Pixel 3 XL added a feature called ‘Night Sight’ feature, the mode amplifies the quality of images taken in low-light.

The Night Sight mode on the Pixel 3 XL essentially brightens up your photos taken in low-light. We tried this feature in the darkest background we could find and the result was amazing. Not only does it brighten up the photo, it doesn’t miss details either. You can refer to the camera samples shot in normal mode, with flash and with Night Sight on.

Speaking about aesthetics, the only issue with the Pixel 3 XL is its weird looking notch. We’ve all made peace with the notch which wasn’t that big of a deal to begin with. But the notch on the Pixel 3 XL is just not right. In fact, the dual camera sensors along with the speaker look like a bad smiley face. Unlike most smartphones, this one doesn’t have an option to hide the notch. There is a workaround to it though.

Google continues with the subtle two-tone colour design on the Pixel 3 series.

Camera Samples

Normal Camera mode on
Night Signt Mode on
Normal Camera mode on
Now with Night Sight on

As you can see the night sight mode does amazing work with just one camera.

Verdict

A stunning camera makes this one of the smartphones to beat in 2018.

Pros

  • colourful display
  • One of the best camera on any phone
  • A slick version of Android
  • Much-improved design over the Pixel 2 XL

Cons

  • Can Scratches very easily
  • Not a 100% fan of this style of notch
  • Battery life not as good as similarly sized rivals

Like to say a big thank you to Vodafone for the review sample

Review: Doctor Who New Year’s Day Special – Resolution

To those who have been reading my reviews of Series 11 will know that my reaction to not having a Christmas Day episode of Doctor Who for 2018, breaking a 13 year tradition, was not a happy one. The first series for Chris Chibnall and Jodie Whittaker has been very up and down with a lot of the problems I have with it coming from Chibnall’s refusal to embrace anything about Doctor Who that fans have come to love. The TARDIS is rarely used in many of the episodes and the new monsters and sci-fi episodes have failed to really feel like the Doctor Who I know and love. Combine that with the news that we will not see another series until 2020 and this could well be the only Doctor Who in 2019 as nothing has been mentioned about next Christmas having a special in any way. So here we are, one special episode to both round off series 11 and keep fans excited for over 12 months to come….

“As the new year begins, a terrifying evil from across the centuries of Earth’s history is stirring. As the Doctor, Ryan, Graham and Yaz return home, will they be able to overcome the threat to planet Earth?”

It actually takes 15 minutes to find out what the threat truly is, and it is the Doctor’s oldest and deadliest of enemies. But before we do get to the actual fun stuff, the opening 15 minutes does need to be addressed as we catch up with Team TARDIS as they are enjoying New Year celebrations across the universe, when the Doctor whilst searching for the 20th celebration for them to visit is alerted to extra terrestrial shenanigans afoot on Earth, taking them back to modern-day Sheffield. I must admit, the usual banter between the Doctor and her team that I found charming during the series just feels more cringe now and just a little annoying especially with Bradley Walsh’s oh so wooden performance at the start.

This episode really has two stories within in with one being the discovery of who is threatening the earth but the second is perhaps the biggest connection to the series itself as with perfect timing, just within minutes of them landing the TARDIS in Graham’s front room (his poor chair) then a knock on the door introduces Ryan’s father for the very first time. This actually has some nice moments as both Ryan and Graham have their moments to confront him, with Ryan finally able to release all the feelings he has held within with his Father running away after the death of his mother and failing to show up at his own mothers, Ryan’s Nan’s funeral. Even the Doctor reminds him of this fact when they first meet.

The second story is of course the main focus and one which sees the return of the DALEKs in the form of a DALEK scout which centuries ago was defeated by tribes of men and then split into three parts and scattered to the furthest corners of the Earth where the descendants of the original tribes now stand in ritual defence of the burial sites. This reads well on paper but on execution it just becomes rather messy and almost farcical to see on-screen, such as one person reaching Russia but showing no effects of the winter she is  trekking through or the man who managed to reach a far off tropical island by row-boat. The third of course, is the tribe from England and the man who could only make it to Yorkshire before being killed by bandits who also fail to steal the very object he was carrying and leaving the body on a road which is then not discovered until modern-day leaving his body and object to be buried by natural means.  This would not be the first instance of sheer lazy writing by Chris Chibnall this episode.

I actually quite liked how Chibnall eventually uses the DALEK for this story, by inventing a new type of DALEK in the scout class, a class sent from planet Skaro to conduct reconnaissance and capture of worlds for the DALEK race but it is hard to  imagine how medieval tribes people were able to overpower it enough to be able to dismantle it and then the only pieces they did decide to scatter was the now seemingly immortal genetic part of the DALEK, which instead of just burning it up as I assume they did with the metal shell, they chose to cut it up and send it around the world in 80 days. But once you put down the sheer laziness of just making things up to explain why events have happened as they have, what you do end up with is a genuine threat to Earth.

However it really is the performance of Jodie once again who sells this story completely with her first reaction to the most classic of Doctor Who monsters. The Doctor has genuine fear about this DALEK and when she tells Team TARDIS that “this is personal” you can feel it even if no one around her remembers what a DALEK actually is. The moments between her and the DALEK are great screen moments and are some of the best of her era so far and proves that Chibnall’s reluctance to use old Who for his run is a mistake, imagine this Doctor meeting the Cybermen or even the Master. So far none of the new monsters he has introduced into Doctor Who compares to any of the old guard and he did show that he can refresh them as he did with this Scout DALEK in order to tell new stories and to make them more threatening than ever before if he simply took the effort to use them properly.

There are other examples of Chibnall’s lazy writing by just having things happen with little explanation but with lasting results such as the Doctor placing a call to UNIT only to be told that due to having funding removed, UNIT was now suspended as an organisation to the shock of the Doctor. Even throwing in Kate Stewart’s name to find they had no contact information for her just showed Chibnall is more than happy to bin Doctor Who lore when it allows him to have a three-minute comedy skit that only fell flat for me as a viewer and fan. Then you have the DALEK building itself a new combat shell in the barn of a farm, now it having the look of being built using cast iron actually gave it a great look but there is no way the weapon systems including flight, laser and rockets (yes it even had rockets) could have been built in that farm in the short time. Now complaining about that in a show about an 2000 year old alien who travels in time and space does sound silly but Chibnall relies on the audience ignoring what they see in front of them too much in his writing for Doctor Who.

I did enjoy this episode but it does showcase more of why this series has been so hit and miss with fans and though it was enjoyable it was not amazing. Team TARDIS is still too big with Yas having yet again so little to do as Graham and Ryan took front and centre for the team in terms of story. Jodie is still an amazing Doctor and I do wish the number of people she travelled with is reduced going forward into the next series, a series we now have to wait over a year to see. This did little more than tie off the whole Ryan and his father story arc and drop some classic Doctor Who in the form of this one-off DALEK encounter, which the special Making Of vidoc on the Doctor Who YouTube channel explains “does not mean the DALEKs are returning, it is just a one off” just to remind us of Chibnall’s need to not revisit old Who for his time.

For me there is just something not clicking with this new Doctor Who structure with Jodie being the only constant brilliant thing about the show at the moment. I do feel as though in this next year, a lot of rethinking has to be done about the stories being told and how they are told each episode. A lot can happen in a year, and with the reports of both Jodie and Chris moving on after the next series still rumbling about but having more substance knowing the show is not returning until very early 2020, right now I am very concerned about Doctor Who.

This New Year’s special was average at best for me and not helped by the massive wait for the next series or Chris Chibnall’s writing still being rather lack lustre for me. But that is it now, the first series of the new Doctor is now completed and I can honestly say, if it was only Jodie and the TARDIS that returned in 2020 I would not be upset about it!

Huawei launches new Huawei P smart 2019

Huawei has today announced the launch of the Huawei P smart 2019. Featuring an expansive Huawei Dewdrop Display, as well as a new and more powerful octa-core chipset Kirin 710, Huawei P smart 2019 delivers the quality user experience that the Huawei P smart Series is known for, together with high-performance AI cameras both in the front and rear of the all-around smartphone.

Originally launched in 2017, the P smart is a midmarket device targeting young consumers seeking an affordable, high-quality user experience. The 2019 edition improves upon every aspect of its predecessor, incorporating some of the latest technologies and designs to deliver a more sophisticated experience that caters to the dynamic needs of today’s consumers.

Justin Costello, Head of Marketing, Huawei UK & Ireland commented: “Huawei’s devices truly disrupted the smartphone arena in 2018, making us the fastest growing smartphone brand in the UK and the second biggest globally. With its outstanding AI, photography and performance capabilities, the Huawei P Smart 2019 delivers a superior smartphone experience at an accessible price point. We look forward to launching the device in the UK next month, in what is set to be the start of an even more ambitious year for our brand.”

Flagship Display Design

Comparing the Huawei P smart 2019 with its predecessors, consumers will immediately recognise the more expansive viewing area made possible by the 6.21-inch 19.5:9 Huawei Dewdrop Display. Besides a physically larger screen, the new Huawei smartphone replaces the upper bezel with an unobtrusive pearl-shaped notch that houses the front camera and completely removes the lower bezel. This allows the display to achieve a modern, almost bezel-less face. Furthermore, the 415ppi high pixel density of the panel affords a higher FHD+ (2340×1080) resolution, which combined with the support for 85 per cent of the NTSC colour gamut, makes for a truly compelling viewing experience. Given how consumers are spending more and more time with their smartphones, Huawei P smart 2019 includes a new TÜV Rheinland-certified Eye Comfort Mode, which effectively filters high-energy blue lights to alleviate user eye fatigue during extended sessions.

Enhanced Camera Functionality

Alongside a more premium display, the Huawei P smart 2019 is equipped with improved front and rear cameras. At the front, embedded in the dewdrop notch is an 8MP wide-aperture (f/2.0) selfie camera. As well as more powerful camera hardware, the selfie camera of Huawei P smart 2019 supports new AI and AR capabilities, and quality-of-life features such as gesture control. Portrait Mode lets users easily apply beautifying effects in the virtual viewfinder, a great way to touch-up selfies after-the-fact. The front camera also recognises and optimises eight categories of common selfie backgrounds, so users can snap freely and still produce socials-worthy selfies.

Powerful AI Dual Camera

As the industry leader in smartphone photography, Huawei is known for equipping powerful cameras in devices across its product portfolio. The AI Dual Camera is comprised of a 13MP main camera and 2MP secondary camera. The high-resolution primary camera is equipped with a 5p f/1.8 wide-aperture lens with a virtual aperture range of f/0.95-16, while the secondary camera collects depth information for accurate depth segmentation and creating authentic bokeh effects. Combined, the camera system can produce studio-quality portraits. AI operates in the background to intelligently recognise over 500 scenes and provide real-time optimisations, bridging the skill gap between a photography amateur and a professional. Furthermore, the Huawei AI Image Stabilisation works in concert with the wide-aperture lens to produce bright, detailed, low-noise nighttime photos without the need for a tripod.

Optimised Performance for Everyday Use

The Huawei P smart 2019 is equipped with the new Kirin 710 Chipset. Manufactured with the 12nm process technology, the new octa-core chipset features a CPU clock speed of up to 2.2GHz. Kirin 710 ensures a smooth, natural system response, immersive gaming performance and excellent power efficiency. The independent image signal processor (ISP) and digital signal processor (DSP) in the chipset accelerate all photography optimisations and further enhances the quality of output.

EMUI 9.0 comes standard on the Huawei P smart 2019. The latest Huawei custom Android 9 Pie-based operating system optimises process allocation to improve CPU core utilisation across the board. GPU Turbo 2.0, the latest iteration of Huawei’s AI-powered graphics processing solution, doubles the GPU power efficiency while granting up to 30 percent better GPU performance on Huawei P smart 2019. This capability enables Huawei P smart 2019 to deliver a stable, high-framerate experience across all mobile entertainment scenarios.

In addition, the 3400mAh battery provides all-day battery life for everyday users. The battery supports up to 10 hours of internet browsing on 4G networks, up to 18 hours of continuous video playback, and up to a groundbreaking 96 hours of continuous music playback. Additionally, the smart battery management system applies several measures to further extend the battery life, including suspending minimised apps to significantly prolong battery life of the device on idle.

Huawei P smart 2019 also introduces an innovative Extendable Read-Only File System (EROFS) to achieve greater disk performance and speed. The file system is extendable with file compression features to enable users to make the most out of their device storage.

Beauty that Belies Ruggedness

Launching in three colourways, Midnight Black, Aurora Blue and Turquoise Blue, the Huawei P smart 2019 is beautifully ergonomic. The 3D curved unibody design comes with a glossy, ceramic-like back that gives the smartphone a premium look and feels. Because smartphones have become such an integral part of the modern lifestyle, a daily driver must be built to weather wear and tear from frequent use. As a result, Huawei has engineered the Huawei P smart 2019 to be extremely durable. The various components of the device have been rigorously tested in Huawei’s testing facilities. For instance, both the power button and fingerprint sensor can withstand 200,000 triggers and remain in good condition.

The Huawei P smart 2019 will be available to buy in the UK on 10 January 2019 from retailers including Carphone Warehouse, Vodafone, A1, Amazon, AO.com, Argos, Clove, Fonehouse, JLP, Jersey Telecom, SDG, Sky Mobile, Tesco Mobile and Virgin Mobile; from EE on 11 January; and O2 and Three mid-January.

The Price will be announced nearer the time of availability

  • The Huawei P20 series is once again raising the bar for what smart mobile photography can do, proving that even thin and stylish mobile phones can provide a professional-level photography experience. • The Huawei Mate 20 series follows the advanced technological standards that the Mate series established and is equipped with the most powerful and sophisticated chip in Huawei history, the Kirin 980. As one of its most beautiful 2018 flagship smartphones, the Honor 10 is boldly innovative in both its appearance and interactive design. With “Beauty in AI”, the Honor 10 has built itself around the creation of fashionable products that feature innovative technologies. The outstanding performance of the Honor 10 and V10 has helped the Honor brand rank as China’s number one brand in Internet-based smartphones.

Huawei smartphone shipments from 2010 to 2018 (in millions of units)

In the past eight years, Huawei Consumer BG has persisted in the concept of “consumer-centric” and using innovation to create value for its customers. The company has also led a number of the industry’s most popular, innovative, and competitive technological fields, such as photography, battery life, communication, and AI. This innovation has won the favour of consumers around the world.

It’s important to remember that a smartphone serves as the bridge between the physical and virtual worlds, and to continue to play that role, it must constantly store and protect more and more information. Therefore, Huawei believes that the privacy and security of its users is just as important as making outstanding and appealing products; this is an issue of trust between us and our consumers around the world. Huawei has thus put the issue of privacy protection ahead of basic commercial interests and complies with Generally Accepted Privacy Principles (GAPP) for privacy protection, the most stringent privacy technology framework in the world, as well as all requirements set forth in the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Huawei also applies Privacy by Design principles throughout all of its product development, design, verification, sales, services, and procurement activities. Huawei has also built onto the open ARM chip architecture and its underlying Google Android system to further enhance security for both devices and users.

In the past eight years, Huawei’s smartphone shipments have increased from 3 million units in 2010 to 200 million units in 2018, reflecting approximately a sixty-six-fold growth. In the global smartphone market, Huawei has gone from being dismissed as a statistical “Other” to ranking among the top 3 players in the world. And in the second and third quarters of 2018, Huawei became the world’s second largest smartphone manufacturer, with a global market share of 14.6%.

At present, Huawei smartphones are being used by more than 500 million consumers in more than 170 countries around the world. According to a report by IPSOS, one of the industry’s leading third-party research institutions, the Huawei brand has already become associated with the idea that it keeps on progressing and has strong innovation ability and trustworthiness in the eyes of its global consumer base.

Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer BG, stated that: “Looking to the future, Huawei’s consumer business will focus on the core concept of ‘consumer-centric’, and will dare to keep innovating, and make every effort to become a pioneer and leader in the next wave of the smartphone revolution, as well as constantly create new value for consumers, let our consumers better enjoy their lives, and truly make Huawei a brand that is beloved by consumers the world over.”

Review: Soul Calibur VI

Transcending history, and the world, a tale of souls and swords, eternally retold: Those iconic words instantly transport me back to when I first fired up the Soul Calibur game on my original PlayStation console all the way back in 1998. What made this series stand out from the Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and Tekken fighting games that I loved was the focus on using weapons which was refreshing and new. It has been several years since I last played a Soul Calibur game but 2018 has certainly been a year for Fighting Games coming back and so I was more then happy to jump back into the fight!

The moment Soul Calibur 6 was announced in late 2017 I was excited to see it making a return following the return of Street Fighter, Tekken and Mortal Kombat in recent years meant that all my favourite fighting series were returning to the spotlight which as a gamer who grew up with these iconic fighting games is something amazing. Soul Calibur was always a different game to play for me so was more than a little intrigued to see how this attempt at rebooting the series would play out. I have to say, I am rather happy with how this entry turned out.

The first instance of improvement easily comes with the visuals which are just gorgeous in Soul Calibur 6 which have clearly benefited from 2018 console power. This is especially true when you look at the amazing roster of characters who all look amazing like the original series characters in Sophitia, Zoldo and Yoshimitsu to the new to the series additions like Azwel. The roster was always one of my highlights to play this series with the unique looks the characters have even before you get to their fighting style and weapon. It also has some of the best concept art as well which you can find with a quick internet search as well which just emphasises the attention to detail that goes into the visuals here.

But it is not just cosmetically where this game is rather lovely to look at as the stages you fight on just look amazing even when you are busy focusing on the fighting. The fighting is again very pretty to watch as the animation flows so well for each fighter and even when the battle is fierce with so much going on, the animation remains smooth and fluid with no slow down which is something I had noticed can happen with Tekken 7 before updates cured that that. The audio and musical score help enhance everything visual as well and despite it being a good few years since playing the series, it all transported me right back to the days where I did so effortlessly which is exactly what I hope for when jumping into a rebooted series.

I was a little worried that I would be rusty at the gameplay having played so many different fighting games this year in Street Fighter V, Injustice 2 and Mortal Kombat X and Dragon Ball FighterZ but it only took a few rounds with new character Azwel to take to its four-button system once again. Fighting games do feel more natural with control simplicity, which I know may annoy those fed up with the button mashing style systems but this is a simple system that allows for real depth for expert players but easy enough to allow newcomers to pick up and play which also makes experimenting with different characters on the roster the focus instead of working out which button does what. With X and Y buttons handling the weapon attacks with vertical and horizonal, B to kick your opponent and A acting as the block button you have a system that you can build your experience on and refine your gameplay the more you play because the foundation is so pick up and play.

Now when it comes to fighting games I do expect more to them then just an online mode, having a classic arcade mode is a big deal for me because its how I became hooked to fighting games back in the past and have really enjoyed when that arcade mode evolved into a full on story mode for this recent generation of gaming and I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised by the modes offered in Soul Calibur 6. Starting with a new story style mode in ‘Libra of Souls’. This mode requires the player to create their own character, fully customisation their appearance and selecting a fighting style from any character on the roster. This mode feels like its own Soul Calibur based mini-RPG game as you travel across the game world in order to level up your character and weapons to become stronger. You can even make dialogue choices and encounter other characters from the main game roster during this mode. It can be quite fun to spend some time in and makes a very different way of having a story in a fighting game as usually it is just revolving around cut-scenes and the player handling the fighting in order to progress further but to have this evolving the story mode even further and the fact it also has the traditional arcade mode to tell the story of the individual roster characters as well and you can really see that this was not just a cash in attempt on bringing the series back but a focused effort to reclaim its rightful position in the top portion of fighting games.

Bringing back old fighting games can be hit and miss and sometimes they have to be totally overhauled in order to compete in todays competitive market for fighting genre. Soul Calibur 6 managed to stay faithful to everything that made the series such a hit with fans but also refreshes so much such as the new Libra Souls game mode and being able to create your own customisable fighter to play in there and online against other players. It feels both familiar and new at the same time and even after a good number of years since I played this series, I was right back into it with character I know and a story I still find fun to be a part of.

Though some I had some issues with the online, updates have improved things and continue to do so making this a must have fighting game for any fan and especially now in the Christmas season with sales which will only make this even more attractive. The fighting game genre has really found momentum again and against the newest titles battling to make a name for themselves, Soul Calibur 6 does more than enough to make its own mark once again with classic gameplay and new modes. I honestly had not expected to be this excited to see how fighting games continue to evolve again but it is a delight to see the old classics are indeed timeless.

Final Thoughts

The first thing you notice is how cool each of the cabinets actually look. They have the same artwork as the original cabinets which adds a nice little touch.

They are fairly lightweight and can be easily carried. You need to peel the sticker off that is protecting the screen then you have to either put 4 batteries into the back, or you can use a micro-USB cable to power it – the choice is yours. Neither batteries or the cable come with them though so make sure you have one or the other to hand.

Switching them on involves you pressing the power button, which is where the coin slot is, which is also a nice little touch.

Then the familiar music starts playing the and screen comes alive and you are back in that arcade again playing your favourite game!

Both the sound, video and gameplay is excellent, with the controls being easy to use. Each game is a perfect replica of the arcade original.

I spent many MANY hours in arcades as a kid, and getting to play these again on the mini cabinets really brought a smile to my face and made me relive a little part of my youth.

Available now priced around £34.95, these are a must for any retro gaming fan and will make an excellent Christmas gift for the gamer in your family. I can’t wait to get my hands on the others!
