The Guts of Gears Multiplayer video for Gears of War: Judgment released

Microsoft and Epic Games today unveiled a new “Gears of War: Judgment” video entitled “The Guts of Gears – Multiplayer,” giving fans a look at the new multiplayer modes,  weapons, in-game rewards and gameplay updates that will make it the most intense “Gears” game ever when it launches in the UK on 22nd March.

ffa_gondola_pax_01_thumb1

In the new video, everyone’s favourite smart-ass hero, Lt. Damon Baird, walks gearheads through four multiplayer modes, and showcases fresh ways to take down the opposition with new weapons, grenade types, and more.

The details covered in this video include a sampling of the biggest and most exciting updates coming to “Gears of War: Judgment” multiplayer, but there is much more to come, so stay tuned in the coming days and weeks heading into launch for more juicy info.

Here is the video:

Multiplayer Modes:

Highlighted in the video are the following four multiplayer modes, with more to be announced as we get closer to launch:

  • OverRun:
    • OverRun marks the first time that class-based competitive multiplayer has been introduced into the “Gears of War” series. Think of it as a combination of the popular Beast and Horde modes pitted against each other. OverRun is a 5v5 attack/defend game type, where the COG are always defending, and the Locust are attacking… and you have an opportunity to play both as attacker and defender to determine the winning team.
  • Team Deathmatch:
    • In this returning fan-favourite, two teams of five players start with a shared pool of respawns. The goal is to take out your opponents and deplete their respawns before your own pool is gone. Perfect for “Gears” veterans and new recruits alike, Team Deathmatch has everyone battling to be the last squad standing.
  • Free-For-All:
    • Free-For-All is an “every player for themselves” Deathmatch mode. No teams mean shoot anything that moves.  The perfect mode for relieving some stress.
  • Domination:
    • Domination is a 5v5 team based competitive multiplayer mode.  Teams will compete over three rings placed throughout the map.  Control the ring to earn points; the first team to 250 points wins the match.

Armory Updates:

Not only are there new grenades for any situation you might encounter online, but Epic also confirmed that players will have the ability to toss grenades without a windup – including specifically for quick, close-quarter encounters. Adding to the expansive war chest of returning weapons and grenade types, below are six new additions to the “Gears” arsenal:

  • Sticky Grenades: Like Frag Grenades, these cause lethal damage to opponents, except they stick to targets before detonation.
  • Beacon Grenades – The Beacon is a tactical grenade most commonly used by COG Scouts.  It electronically marks all enemy targets in its blast radius, and reveals their position for a short time, even though walls and other obstacles of any thickness.
  • Stim Grenades – The Stim is an extremely useful tool for Medics and those wishing to play a support role in combat.  When detonated, it emits a cloud of medicinal gas that will instantly heal all friendly targets within its radius.
  • Markza: Before the Locust invaded Sera, the people of the COG had spent decades at war with the Union of Independent Republics, and the Markza is one of the UIR’s most infamous weapons.  This semi-automatic rifle is perfect for medium range combat, with a deep clip and an attached scope that extends its effective range and ensures greater accuracy at distance.
  • Breechshot – The Locust are more than just a brute force, and the Breechshot is a shining example of their ingenuity and tactics: the base of the gun is a confiscated UIR Markza that has been converted to inflict massive amounts of damage.  The barrel has a larger bore to support a higher-caliber projectile, and the stock has been retrofitted with a vicious blade making this versatile weapon perfect for short to medium range combat.
  • Booshka – The Booshka is a devastating grenade launcher of UIR design.  It is capable of lobbing smart shells that detonate on direct impact with an enemy, or bounce off walls and other obstacles to detonate off a brief timer.

Rewards:

With “Gears of War: Judgment,” your multiplayer career is always in your control; the better you play, the bigger the payoff. With Prizeboxes, players can earn XP bonuses and exclusive unlocks like weapon and armor skins to get a leg up on the competition.

NVIDIA releases GeForce 314.07 WHQL driver with Crysis 3 support

nvidiaplaceholder1-280x179

The new GeForce 314.07 WHQL driver is now available to download. An essential update for gamers jumping into Crysis 3 this week, 314.07 WHQL improves single-GPU and multi-GPU performance in Crytek’s sci-fi shooter by up to 65%.

Other highlights include sizeable SLI and single-GPU performance gains of up to 27% in Assassin’s Creed III, 19% in Civilization V, 14% in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, 14% in DiRT 3, 11% in Just Cause 2, 10% in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, 10% in F1 2012, and 10% in Far Cry 3.

Rounding out the release is a ‘Excellent’ 3D Vision profile for Crysis 3, a SLI profile for Ninja Theory’s DmC: Devil May Cry, and an updated SLI profile for the free-to-play, third-person co-op shooter, Warframe.

You can download the GeForce 314.07 WHQL drivers with one click from the GeForce.com homepage; Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8 packages are available for desktop systems, and for notebooks there are Windows 7 and Windows 8 downloads that cover all non-legacy products.

Crysis 3

Following a closed alpha and an open beta, Crysis 3 finally hits store shelves this week, and as you might expect Crytek’s shooter is as graphically demanding and power hungry as previous releases in the franchise. To give your system the best chance of success in the technologically-advanced title, download and install 314.07 WHQL, which improves single-GPU performance by up to 4.7%, and boosts multi-GPU performance by up to 65%.

Paired with a high-end processor, our GPUs hit the levels of performance shown below at 1920×1080, with Very High, maxed-out settings, and 4xMSAA enabled.

If you don’t have a system capable of maxing out Crysis 3, don’t worry, GeForce Experience can automatically optimize the shooter with settings tailored to your PC’s CPU and GPU. These optimal settings maximize image quality whilst maintaining great performance, giving you the absolute best experience. And what’s more, GeForce Experience can notify you of new driver and profile releases, all of which can be downloaded and installed with one click.

Performance Improvements

Our first, all-new WHQL driver of 2013 features performance improvements in seventeen games, measured across our complete range of GTX 600 Series graphics cards. Improvements of particular note include 27% in Assassin’s Creed III, 19% in Civilization V, 14% in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, 14% in DiRT 3, 11% in Just Cause 2, 10% in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, 10% in F1 2012, and 10% in Far Cry 3.

Please note that performance improvements benefit all GeForce GTX graphics cards, though obviously to varying degrees. Showing the level of improvement on every single supported GPU would be fantastic, but sadly this is unfeasible given the number of benchmarks required. For example, for each GPU and game to be tested take a before and after reading to show the level of improvement, then multiply the number of tests by the number of resolutions, three, and then again by the number of different detail levels and anti-aliasing modes. Then, finally, to verify the results, run everything again. With so many GPUs in our lineup, even focusing exclusively on the most popular models would prove impossible in the time between a driver being finalized and released.

If you test the changes out at home on hardware not represented below, please share your results with the community via the Disqus comments and the GeForce.com Forums.

Halo 4 Majestic Map Pack details and pictures revealed

0

343 Industries today announced the first details for the next major expansion in the Halo Infinity Multiplayer experience, the Majestic Map Pack, launching next Monday, 25th February. Developed by Certain Affinity, in collaboration with 343 Industries, the Majestic Map Pack delivers the close-quarters action fans have been craving in three all-new maps designed specifically for tight, competitive combat in small-team and free-for-all modes.

halo_4_majestic_map_pack_landfall_07

Landfall’s emphasis is on infantry battles amidst a glittering ocean and a city under siege on a distant world. Monolith is an open battlefield; a Forerunner monument that exposes you to the naked vacuum of space –and the firepower of opposing teams. Skyline puts you in the air on a new construction site, and its distinctly industrial surroundings and sky-high locale provides new challenges in confined spaces.

Additionally, the map pack introduces two new “Majestic DLC” playlists and a new free-for-all game type, “Infinity Rumble,” that is exclusive to the “Majestic DLC” playlist for a limited time, as well as 10 new Achievements worth a total of 250 Gamerscore.

Descriptions of the three maps are as follows:

New Battlegrounds: Majestic Map Pack

· Landfall: A shining city under attack…

o The world of Tribute is now a graveyard, but its capital was once a bright beacon of commerce among the inner colonies. Fight in the corridors and courtyards of Casbah’s port authority buildings, but don’t stand still too long. Perfect for Infinity Slayer, this small to mid-size asymmetrical map offers interiors with sparse cover, which encourages close-range combat, while the exteriors offer long lines of sight to stalk your opponents. Awesome jump routes let players spring around the outside of the map, incidentally offering a perfect view of the city as it is razed by the Covenant’s brutal assault.

halo_4_majestic_map_pack_landfall_01 halo_4_majestic_map_pack_landfall_02

· Monolith: Adrift in a forgotten asteroid belt…

o This monument and many like it were built by the Forerunners after their final victory over the ancient humans. This small map has central man-cannons, short corridors, almost no cover, and open sightlines which make the location great for a mixture of close and mid-range battle. Monolith harkens back to more classic “Halo” arena-based maps, and its symmetry lends nicely to objective-based modes like Capture the Flag. Monolith is an open battlefield; wherever you look, you will witness the ferocious action that only a small and open map can provide.

· Skyline: Combat analysts agree…

o The rooftop terrain on this new space tether construction site is an ideal training environment for close-quarters infantry combat. This map, perched high above the sights of reconstruction in Cascade’s capital city, is small and symmetrical, perfect for Regicide with a mixture of high and low spaces and plenty of cover. Don’t think cover means you’re safe, however – this map holds explosive fuel cells that can and will wreak havoc in Skyline’s confined spaces, not to mention the long, long drop if you misstep.

Far Cry 3 Update Coming Soon Adding Master Difficulty, Multiplayer Fixes

0

Ubisoft has announced a number of new features in the works for Far Cry 3 in upcoming updates.

For the single-player campaign, a new Master difficulty setting  will be available, offering a greater challenge through more aggressive enemy AI and wildlife. Ubisoft has not specified whether Master difficulty will be  available immediately after the update or if players will need to complete the game on one of the prior difficulties first.

far cry 3 screenshot

The single-player campaign will also add the option to reset all outposts,  allowing players to recapture outposts after completing the game. The option  will only be available to users who have finished the game and captured all  outposts, and will hide all incomplete side-quests until their associated  outpost has been recaptured.

For multiplayer, Ubisoft has added a feedback system for custom maps, letting users give feedback directly to map makers like whether a map is too big or small, or does not have enough  cover.

There will also be an option to beta test custom maps, allowing  map creators to spectate over matches and see how other users are playing on their maps.

Other fixes include an option to search for new maps based on  author, disabling the timer to kick idle players from private and custom matches  and revised voting to skip maps in multiplayer.

Ubisoft did not specify when this updates will arrive, nor for which versions of the game will get the update.

To enable this new dynamic approach to the smartphone, HTC will provide both local and global content from more than 1,400 media sources with more than 10,000 articles per day from some of the most innovative media companies, such as the AOL family of media properties, ESPN, MTV, Vice Media, CoolHunting, Reuters and many others.

HTC Zoe gives people the ability to shoot high-res photos that come to life in three-second snippets.  These Zoes, photos and videos are then displayed in a unique way that brings the gallery to life and transforms the traditional photo gallery of still images into a motion gallery of memories.  It also automatically creates integrated highlight films from each event comprised of Zoes, photos and videos set to music with professionally designed cuts, transitions and effects. These highlight videos can be remixed or set to different themes, and can be easily shared on social networks, email and other services.

To enable this innovative camera experience, HTC developed a custom camera that includes a best-in-class f/2.0 aperture lens and a breakthrough sensor with UltraPixels that gather 300 percent more light than traditional smartphone camera sensors.  This new approach also delivers astounding low-light performance and a variety of other improvements to photos and videos.
