Xbox One to Expand Friends Lists to 1,000 friends

0

Xbox One

Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox One will offer an expanded friend list compared to the Xbox 360. Answering questions on Twitter, the Xbox Support account revealed that Xbox One will let users store up to 1,000 people on their friend list.

Speaking with Polygon, Microsoft’s Marc Whitten added that “you’ll see us pulling friends from across other social experiences”.

For example, Xbox One could add friends from a user’s Facebook account, which would likely require more friend list spots than the Xbox 360’s 100-friend limit allows.

Announced yesterday (May 21), Xbox One – described as an all-in-one “ultimate home entertainment system” – will be launched later this year.

Microsoft has confirmed that while Xbox One won’t require an always-on connection, there will be a fee to play used games.

Microsoft has announced a new live-action television show based on the Halo series. The programme will be overseen by Halo 4 developer 343 Industries, with Steven Spielberg as the executive producer.

Halo Steven Spielberg

“The Halo universe is an amazing opportunity to be at that intersection where technology and myth-making meet to produce something truly groundbreaking,” Spielberg said during the Xbox One reveal event.

It is unknown where in the Halo series the show will take place, or which characters will appear.

The show will debut on Xbox One, though there is no air date yet for the series, and it is unclear if it will be broadcast outside of Xbox One.

At the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), DICE will be unveiling Battlefield 4 multiplayer with a spectacular live demo at “The Download: EA 2013 Preview” press conference taking place at 9:00 pm GMT on Monday, June 10 on Spike TV and at http://www.ea.com/e3. Xbox One to have used Game Fee, Won’t be Backwards Compatible

Xbox One will require users to pay a fee to play second-hand games on the console, Microsoft has confirmed. Speaking with Wired, a Microsoft representative said that all Xbox One games will be installed to the system’s hard drive to be played without the disc inside the system.

Xbox One pic 2

The game disc is then registered to a user’s Xbox Live account, tying that copy of the game to a single user.

Microsoft added that a second user could still install the game from a second-hand disc, but there would be an activation fee to install and register the game to an additional Xbox Live account.

Microsoft also confirmed to The Verge that Xbox One will not be backwards compatible with Xbox 360 games.

“The system is based on a different core architecture, so back-compatible doesn’t really work from that perspective,” Microsoft Xbox Live vice president Marc Whitten said.

Xbox One was announced at a recent Microsoft event, billing the system as an all-in-one console for gaming and home entertainment.

The system will include a next-generation Kinect sensor, which can record video at 1080p and 60 frames per second.

Xbox One will launch later this year worldwide, with no exact date or price set at this time.

No Live TV Outside US at Launch for Xbox One

0
Microsoft has just sent through a press release revealing a few interesting fact. Interestingly Live TV with Kinect navigation, Live TV with One Guide, Trending, and NFL on Xbox will be available in U.S. at launch, however Microsoft says that it is “anticipating a global launch over time.”
Xbox One - Back
While users may be disappointed with this we have some more slightly disappointing news. For instance Kinect voice functionality will only be available in supported locales and languages, while at launch, Live TV will require a supported receiver device with HDMI output which are sold separately – obviously this could mean your TV Box, Cable Box etc, although given that the US is the only country getting this function it won’t matter too much at first.

Assassins Creed 4 – Black Flag,Watch Dogs and More Coming to Xbox One

0

Following the announcement of Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, Ubisoft revealed hat two of its most highly-anticipated titles – Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag and Watch Dogs – will be available on the platform later this year. Ubisoft also announced that these titles will be among at least six next-gen games released for Xbox One in the system’s first year.

“The next generation of consoles will reinvigorate our industry and make it possible for us to deliver incredible new entertainment to gamers,” said Yves Guillemot, co-founder and chief executive officer, Ubisoft. “Our teams are using the innovations in connectivity, immersion and social gaming included in Xbox One to create original and memorable next-gen gaming experiences.”

In addition to Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag and Watch Dogs, Ubisoft will deliver a mix of new episodes of existing franchises, new IPs and digital titles for Xbox One within the system’s first 12 months on the market. More information about the lineup of games planned for the new system will be available during Ubisoft’s press conference at E3.

About Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag:

Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag tells the story of Edward Kenway, a young British man with a thirst for danger and adventure, who falls from privateering for the Royal Navy into piracy as the war between the major Empires comes to an end. Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag features a vast open world with more than 50 navigable locations. Combat combines the weaponry of the Assassin’s Order with armaments of the era, and rewards both daring and stealth. First Look for Call of Duty – Ghosts on the Xbox One

1

Call of Duty: Ghosts has been fully unveiled by Activision, showcasing a next-generation shooter with a new engine.

Developed by Modern Warfare studio Infinity Ward with support by Raven and Neversoft, the latest in the shooter franchise will feature a new world, story and characters, and is powered by a new next-generation engine.
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zxnx3W-HA18?feature=player_detailpage%5D

Call of Duty: Ghosts Reveal Trailer

The story sees a mass event cripple the United States’ government and military forces, leaving the country no longer as a superpower.

The lead character and his brother then join a secret, elite group known as the Ghosts, which employ guerilla warfare-style tactics against a mysterious enemy force.

One of the squad members is a dog, described as a core member of the team, which will smell and detect explosives and protect squad members.

The dog has been motion captured, and is constructed in-game using high-resolution scans of a real Seal team service dog, complete with scars and a tattoo inside the ear.

“That squad dynamic is really important, because the characters in that squad all have a different way to interact with you as the player, and they’re unique individuals,” said vice president of production Daniel Suarez.

With a story written by Oscar-winning Traffic and Syriana writer Stephen Gaghan and a focus on more detailed characters, developer Infinity Ward wants players to become emotionally attached to the story.

“What they wanted in this game, Call of Duty: Ghosts, is they wanted emotional reality,” said Gaghan.

“They wanted these characters to feel real, feel like real people.”

Call-of-duty-ghosts-9

The new game engine will provide high polygon counts, higher resolution textures, improved lighting, smoke and particle simulations to help create a more immersive world.

Weapons and equipment will receive far more detail than previous Call of Duty games, with rifles showing detailed grips, wires and screws, while arms and hands will show finer hairs, cuts and dirt under fingernails.

Infinity Ward has employed several key technologies that have been used by CG film artists to provide improved visuals.

call-of-duty-ghosts-in-game-models-1

One is SubD, a technology originally created by Pixar and employed by movie studios, which provides smoother curves the closer the player gets to an object.

Ideal for weapons and characters, one specific use shown in a tech demo was a scope and the player’s arms, both of which are formed of more polygons when viewed up close.

Another is Displacement Mapping, which creates geometry out of flat textures by dividing the amount of polygons it uses to create new detail, which is perfect for rock faces.

While there is a focus on better visuals and animations, Infinity Ward stressed that the franchise’s core philosophy of 60 frames per second gameplay and low latency controls have been maintained.

“One of the key reasons Call of Duty has been as successful as it is, is we focus on gameplay,” explained executive producer Mark Rubin.

“It’s the thing we design for, it’s the thing that drives the success of the franchise.

“With all of the new tech, all of the new storyline, everything that we’re putting into this next generation Call of Duty, we are still 60 FPS, low latency controls, and a great feeling game.”

New gameplay mechanics that have been revealed include leaning in and out of cover to get a better view of the battlefield, a new mantle system that retains momentum when jumping over low walls, and a slide that allows players to get to places quickly.

Two new features were confirmed for multiplayer. One was dynamic maps, where earthquakes and floods would change the landscape and change the flow of the match.

Call of Duty: Ghosts Behind the Scenes Preview

Welcome to the World of Xbox One

0
Don Mattrick has just taken to the stage at the Xbox reveal to announce Microsoft’s latest console. He started off by revealing that using the new console your TV will come alive, before reminiscing on its previous console, Xbox 360.
But now was for the future and in this respect, Mattrick announced that “Team Xbox is on a new mission,” by introducing an Xbox for the living room, at which point he unveiled the “ultimate all-in-one entertainment system,” Xbox One.
Xbox One
The Xbox One will be a new redesigned system and when we say redesigned we mean everything, from the controller, to Kinect to the actual console (which looks a little like a Sky box). The console will be cloud powered which we presume means that it’ll always be connected.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWnSCKmCa3s?feature=player_detailpage%5D

This was best demonstrated by being told ‘Xbox On’ at which point the console dashboard popped up. We are told the console will always be on-line, although it seems very gesture based. Features shown previously saw the presenter flicking between Gaming, TV and Music just by using voice recognition. The console switched between these functions instantly.
One of the more controversial features is that you can use gestures to perform different tasks. Something which could take some getting used to.
Also shown was the ability to snap programs together, allowing you to watch TV, while having internet (for example) on the other half of the screen. Skype was also confirmed for the new Xbox.
Other features focused on sports, which also allowed you to pull up Fantasy Football teams. This also provided similar functions for Politics programs, news etc. A Tv guide was also shown, all while the presenter continued to talk to the console to bring up these features.

Processor and graphics: as rumoured, a heavily customized AMD chip that combines an eight-core CPU, a GPU tailored for DirectX 11.1 graphics and 32MB of high bandwidth embedded ESRAM memory. The 28nm chip will consume around 100 watts, which is slightly higher than current Xbox Slim and PS3, but Microsoft promises noise from the cooling fans will be “four times quieter.”

System memory: a Sony-rivaling 8GB of RAM, although it’ll be DDR3 instead of the PlayStation 4’s GDDR5.

Audio and video: 1080p and 4K both supported; 7.1 surround sound.

Kinect: This will be bundled with the console and contain 250,000-pixel infrared depth sensor as well as a regular 720p web cam.

Storage and media: a 500GB hard drive of unknown speed plus a Blu-ray / DVD combo drive that will be used as little as possible. We’re told disc-based games will be ripped to the HDD automatically.

Connectivity: HDMI 1.4 output and passthrough; a “few” USB 3.0 ports; gigabit Ethernet; plus, three separate 802.11n radios to allow the console to communicate with its controller (over a form of WiFi Direct) as well as other devices (such as perhaps other Windows-based phones and tablets) without losing its connection to the internet. At other times, two radios could be used to maintain a stronger WiFi signal.

A Reddit user has pieced together an image of Sony’s PlayStation 4 has pieced together the parts from Sony’s PS4 reveal yesterday, and came up with the image you can see below.
It’s a pretty valiant attempt to be honest, but do you really think the PS4 could look like this and more importantly, would you want it too?

Dragon’s Prophet Open Beta coming May 30th

0

After several weeks of extensive closed beta testing, the open beta of Dragon’s Prophet is finally just one beat of a dragon’s wing away. As Infernum announces today, the gates will be open to all fans on the 30th of May. All Founder’s Club members will get the exclusive chance to access the fantasy MMORPG one day earlier (29th of May).

Dragon's-Prophet---Taming-a-Dragon

For those who haven’t yet taken a glimpse into the world of Dragon’s Prophet, Infernum offers new information about the dragon system. Players can expect numerous and complex ways of interacting with their new friends. Each of the more than 300 dragons has to be tamed in a challenging mini game. After that, the scaled creatures support and accompany the player on their adventures in the expansive game world of Auratia. They serve as riding, gliding, swimming, and flying companions. Some places can be reached just by swinging on the back of a flying dragon, but they also prove to be indispensable help in battle. Each dragon comes with different active and passive skills, as well as special skills which can be used directly by the player.

Dragons also help by collecting important crafting resources. Players can charge dragons with collecting tasks and go about their other important business in the meantime. By fulfilling those tasks or fighting battles, dragons can even be trained and learn skills from other dragons to improve all of their abilities. Players decide on the exact specialization and determine how each of their dragons should evolve.

Auratia also provides special encounters for players. All zones and dungeons hold the chance to come across rare dragons. They have special skills, are hard to tame, and have a unique physical appearance.

All players are invited to share their experiences with friends or the community, as Infernum is dropping the NDA today.

Dragon’s Prophet is a new online role-playing game which features all virtues of a classic MMORPG and “evolutionizes” them. Players will experience immense dragon features and an epic story in a modern fantasy world featuring next-gen elements such as action-based combat, deep character development and the extensive cross-server Frontier PvP system. Dragon’s Prophet is being developed by Runewaker Entertainment, known for their successful blockbuster MMO Runes of Magic. In 2013, Infernum will publish Dragon’s Prophet in Europe, together with co-publisher Deep Silver.

We recently had the chance to play the game so stay tuned for our thoughts soon.
