Today Tranquil are talking about a new app called StreamToMe which you can use to stream audio and video from Windows Home Server 2011 to your iPhone or iPad.
Here is what Tranquil have said:
Utilising the substantial CPU performance of the Leo HS4 server, you can now enjoy audio / video streaming both local (LAN) and remote (Internet) to various mobile devices.
But we have now also set up streaming for iPhone / iPad. The StreamToMe Add in can be installed to your iPhone or iPad for a nominal fee (£1.79) you can get it from the App Store. If you would like to give the server a test drive for yourself, drop a line to Tranquil PC now, and we’ll provide you with the WHS2011 details to stream from.
You can stream music test files, recorded TV (.wtv), HD recorded TV, .mp4 video (HD) etc. There may be occasional issues with some of the video files, ie the audio codec may or may not stream. (SALT in the videos folder is a good example of movie streaming!)
See how you get on with your iPad or iPhone !!
I haven’t tried it yet, but I will do soon and let you know what I think.

What does Tranquil have to do with StreamToMe? I’ve been using both StreamToMe and AirVideo for awhile now. (both work great)

I think that unlike most other WHS manufacturers, Tranquil are trying to promote WHS 2011 by talking about things you can do with it.
A much better option is the Orb Server. A free server software install and the iPhone / iPad app is great.
Orb index all your files and state they can and will do what they like with that information. The technology doesn’t require a middle man logging everything you do.
Air playit alsolooks like it has potential but the frustrating part of all this is that WHS already has a built in streaming server, why aren’t Microsoft making any supporting apps for mobile devices? Not even for WP7?! Do they really expect us to install a 2nd server app for mobile access?
