World of Tanks is now available on the Xbox One, and its time to roll out our review.
World of Tanks has been around on PC for a number of years now, and has a huge following. About 18 months ago, Wargaming released an Xbox 360 version too, but it’s only now they have released a version of the Xbox One.
World of Tanks is an online free-to-play multiplayer historically accurate tank combat game that puts you firmly in control of a tank on the battlefield.
I’ve played a little bit of World of Tanks on the Xbox 360, and one of the things I didn’t really like was that you were just sort of thrown into the deep end and you had to figure everything out for yourself. This I know put a lot of people off, myself included, so I was very happy to see the inclusion of a new feature called Proving Grounds which basically helps new players get to grips with their tanks, but also has something for existing players.
The first thing I noticed once I started playing was that the graphics are much better on this Xbox One version as compared to the Xbox 360. Obviously you would expect this, but it would have been just as easy for Wargaming to have ported World of Tanks as is, but thankfully they rebuilt the game to take advantage of everything the Xbox One has to offer.
One thing I was really happy to see was the inclusion of cross-play – basically you can play against other players regardless of whether they are playing on the Xbox One version or the Xbox 360 version – smart move Wargaming!
When you first start out you have a fairly basic tank, you have to earn upgrades, or you could just buy them, but it is certainly a lot more fun, and satisfying to get them the old fashioned way – although this will take time, a lot of time. There are a lot of different types of tanks to choose from, so make sure you try out as many as you can until you find the one you like the most.
Wargaming have added a weather system into the game which not only makes the game look better but it can change up the gameplay.
If you are expecting a tank game where you just go charging ahead expecting to shoot everything that you are going to be in for a very short experience, because you will basically be destroyed and you will be out of the game. World of Tanks makes you think strategically before making your move – but don’t worry, you can shoot, just think about where you want to be first.
At the end of the day, World of Tanks is free, so you can download it, and give it a try for yourself – go on, what have you got to lose? See you on the battlefield!
