Samsung has formally announced the Galaxy S4 Active, a water and dust-proof version of its flagship smartphone the Samsung Galaxy S4. The Android device’s sealed design keeps out dust particles and enables it to withstand submersion in up to three feet of water for 30 minutes.
The Galaxy S4 Active also features a water-resistant headphone socket, a special ‘aqua mode’ camera setting, and ‘glove touch’ screen technology.
Powered by a 1.9GHz quad-core processor, the handset sports a 5-inch 1080p display, capable of displaying images with 443 ppi, an 8-megapixel camera on the rear and a 2-megapixel shooter on the front.
Other features include LTE support, a built-in barometer and Google’s Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system.
“The Galaxy S4 Active offers all the great features of the original Galaxy S4, but with added innovative protective design elements to suit our most active customers,” said Samsung vice president Simon Stanford.
“Built for an outdoors lifestyle, the Galaxy S4 Active is a life companion for all environments.”
The Galaxy S4 Active will be available in Urban Grey, Dive Blue and Orange Flare this summer, with a price yet to be confirmed.
