Over the weekend I was talking to Viridian PC about their Windows Home Servers, and they told me about their Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials servers they were launching.

VSS-4HA COLORADO EDITION

Our Colorado Storage server range comes pre-installed with Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials. Based on Windows Server 2008 R2, WSS 2008 R2 Essentials is 64-bit and supports the latest technology such as Advanced Format hard drives. Aimed at the small business market it delivers features including remote access and media streaming. WSS 2008 R2 Essentials is the ideal platform to backup your PCs and Macs, stream media to your DLNA™ compliant devices, and access your data from anywhere you can access the Internet.

The VSS-4HA Colorado Edition server delivers an outstanding range of features in a very compact unit. The server comes with features not typically found on small home servers, such as full hardware based remote management with KVM over IP and virtual media, which allows the user to perform any task necessary on the server from a different PC even including BIOS changes and OS installation. Also, the Colorado range feature dual Intel server class network adapters that allow advanced features like teaming and redundancy.

Using the latest dual-core Intel Atom processor, this server is remarkably energy efficient, only drawing around 30w at idle when coupled with green hard drives.

Windows is installed on the internal 2.5” hard drive, leaving all of the space on the data drives free. The data drives are housed in hot-swap bays and can be configured as RAID 5 or RAID 10 to protect against drive failure.

The server comes installed with 2Gb of DDR3 memory. The memory can be upgraded to 4Gb or 8Gb. We can also offer upgrades to the storage capabilities as follows :

Internal drive + no e-SATA – The standard configuration.

Internal drive + e-SATA (no port multiplication) – this simply routes the remaining sata port on the motherboard to a bracket in the expansion slot.

Internal drive + 2 x e-SATA (with port multiplication) – in this configuration, a PCIe card is installed to provide two e-SATA ports with RAID capability and support for port multiplication.

2 x 160Gb drives (mirrored) + no e-SATA – in this configuration a card is installed that holds the two 2.5″drives in the PCIe slot, whilst this offers redundancy of the system drive, it means there is no e-SATA capability on the server.

Please note : All our systems are built to order and have an 8-10 working day lead time

vs-6icr-500x500

The VHS-6IC Colorado Edition server delivers an outstanding range of features in a compact unit. The server comes with features not typically found on small home servers, such as full hardware based remote management with KVM over IP and virtual media, which allows the user to perform any task necessary on the server from a different PC even including BIOS changes and OS installation.
