As soon as the Lion update was available this afternoon I downloaded and installed it. But then I noticed that the fan was constantly on and the battery life dropped considerably!
After doing some digging, I found out that this is because Spotlight re-indexes everything and then rebuilds it’s system caches once the upgrade has completed, and this can take a little while to happen.
A few hours in and the fan has stopped spinning and my battery life is back to normal.
I thought it was worth sharing this so that other people didn’t start thinking something was wrong!
Have you installed Lion yet? What do you think?

Did you get the server version or only the desktop version? I am curious as to what the new webmail interface in Lion looks like from a client machine. Other server features as well look interesting. I’m still learning the server Admin roles in 2008R2. Apple server looks much more like a mix between WHS and the functionality of something like SBS or basic 2008r2 setup.
At the moment because I only have an Air, I went for the Desktop version.
I’m planning a number of articles that show off the new features, so watch this space 🙂
Are you sure that your battery got back up to pre-lion levels? It didn’t happen for me. In the end i had to do a SMC reset and battery calibration which got me back an hour. I’ve detailed the instructions for the macbook pro smc reset if someone needs it.
My current batt life is like: 150mins movie with full sound and medium brightness + 90 mins 8 tabbed browsing through wifi.
There’s an update to the solution for Lion users who are using the macbook pro series of laptops. It works better than the last one.
