What’s In The Box?
As usual with Synology products, the boxes are very small and well packaged.
When you open the box, you see the DS411slim itself, a stand for putting the DS411slim on (which you need to make sure you use as there is a fan underneath so you need the airflow). There is also the usual assortment of cables, power supply, screws, paperwork and disc.
Looking around the box you will see the usual Synology quality and look – lights on the front, connections and drive bays on the back.
Adding a hard drive is very simple – you just slide out the drive tray, pop the 2.5” drive in the tray, screw it into place and then just slide the drive back into the box.

Looks like a nifty little unit. The Synology DSM Software really impressed me and I do get the benefits of using 2.5" HDD — just that 2.5" disks are considerably more expensive when compared to the 3.5" variants.
im loving the DS411slim NAS Box but with only 4 x 1TB drives 4TB max, thats a bad thing, with drive size ever increasing and more demand for storage space, this unit has it's limits. and to me its over before it has begun,
Are you limited to the 9.5MM 2.5" drives or can you leverage the larger 12.5MM drives(current 1TB 2.5" drives are all 12.5MM high)?
Yes the larger drives do fit.
I currently have 4 WD Scorpio blue in it and they fit perfect.
