Yesterday we announced the release of XBMC for the Apple iPhone 4, iPad and AppleTV 2. Today we show you how to install XMBC to your Apple iPhone 4 or iPad.
Back in December we published our hands-on review of XBMC 10.0, and we loved it.
And now for those of us that have Apple devices, such as the iPhone, iPad or the new AppleTV, we can get XBMC as well.
One thing you need to remember is that XBMC is NOT available it the App Store which means the only way to install it only your Apple devices is to jailbreak the required device.
This process isn’t for the fainthearted, and can jeopardise your warranty, so please only do this if you are sure. UWHS cannot take responsibility if you try XBMC and you brick your device!
There are a number of different ways to jailbreak your device, we are not going to cover them here in this article – just do a search on Google!
The following screenshots were taken on an iPhone 4, this is the same process if you want to install XBMC to your Apple iPad.
When you jailbreak your device, you get a new application called Cydia. This is where we must add the source in order to download the app to the device.
Click on Manage, then click on Sources.
Click on Edit, then Click on Add.
Type in mirrors.xbmc.org/apt/ios and click Add Source
Cydia will attempt to verify the URL you have entered
It if it successful it will update your sources list.
