As you know, we are here in Las Vegas for CES 2011, and our friends at ioSafe invited us to a special event. At the time no details were given to us, but we knew from last year it was going to be something fun, and something worth attending.

Here is how ioSafe describe the Rugged Portable:

Blasting the Drive
So we were given a safety briefing about the firearm (after all we were on a working live gun range) and we were shown a brand new drive being loaded with pictures of us taken a few minutes earlier. ioSafe then put this drive in a fishtank full of water then showed us it working, then tried to crush it in a vice, and showed us it work, and then it was time to shoot.
Obviously I volunteered to go first 🙂
More than anything I think I was surprised that I actually hit the drive!!! Although I am certain that was more to do with Jeremy showing me how to stand and what to do, so thanks for making me not look too stupid Jeremy!
You can watch me shoot the drive below:
As you can see below, after 7 people had fired that Remington shotgun into the drive it was peppered with damage – and it still worked!

And just to prove it, take a look at the video below:
You can learn more about the ioSafe Rugged Portable drive from the ioSafe website, and expect the UWHS hands-on review soon.
And I just wanted to say a big thank you to ioSafe – Brett, Kris and Robb, and also to Jeffrey from American Shooters.
Best Demo Ever!

A Brit firing a weapon, and not in Afghanistan! Good for you Andrew! Any chance that you'll now take up fox hunting with the royals? 🙂
Jim
🙂 I doubt it, seems like a lot of effort, and you would get cold!
I believe I read where this drive comes in both an SSD and 'regular" HDD version. Any idea which version was being demo'd?
Yes, it was the 2.5" regular HDD – they took it apart to show us how it all worked.
