You then have to create a volume in the Drobo before you can start to use it.
If you only have one drive in the Drobo (as I did at first) you are continually warned that you are note protected against hard drive failures. This is useful for those people who think they are protected just because they have a device.
You can take a closer look at the drives from here as well.
When you add at least one more drive you will see that the Drobo will automatically begin data protection – this can take some time so be patient (even with no data on the drives).
I then added two more drives to fill the Drobo to maximum.
The Tools tab also gives you a number of different options including checking for updates and performing actions.
You can also launch the Drobo Dashboard again at any time from the Windows Desktop.
If you are not sure what the various lights mean on the front of the Drobo you can have a look at the reverse of the front cover.
I could then open the Drobo volume using Windows Explorer and start copying data to it.
