Review: Pechka

In my experience of reviewing, I find visual novels to be the hardest to review. In the case of Pechka, there is no gameplay to review, just a story. However, since this is a game review, I will be reviewing it as a game rather than a story. Pechka, developed and published by Growing Seeds, is a visual novel game with an engaging narrative, fantastic visual themes, and an immersive soundtrack. Unfortunately, due to its narrative focus, it suffers from a lack of gameplay. It also suffers from awful pacing thanks to its episode format.

War never changes

Pechka’s has a very gripping narrative, however, to avoid spoiling the game, I will be as vague as possible. This story follows a young man named Pyotr. Pyotr has lived a very troubled life in three separate countries. However, he considers none of them his homeland. As such, he must carefully navigate his way through a war between the three countries. The story is very well written, and for the most part, I was entertained throughout my time with this title. Furthermore, it takes inspiration from historical events and even features people from historical events adding to the immersion of the story.

While the narrative is solid, the pacing of said narrative is awful. This is most likely due to the way the game was originally released. The game features both episodes and chapters, where episodes would come out once every week until the game was eventually completed. Due to this, the game’s story rarely feels like it’s advancing, leading to an overall long plot. While it is still entertaining, I often felt fatigued getting through all the mindless dialogue. Overall, The story is great, however, the pacing of the story is quite poor.

Pyotr coming to terms with his choices

Choices

As stated earlier, Pechka has very little in terms of gameplay. You will move to the designated area and talk to the correct person to advance the story. Sometimes you will be given dialogue options, which impact the ending of the game. You can affect your bond with each character to get a different ending through these dialogue options. Furthering this, these options happen fairly infrequently, so the amount of gameplay on offer is minimal. This hurts the game a lot as it makes the long stretches of mindless dialogue even more draining. Furthermore, a lot of important decisions within the game are made for the player. There were multiple points in the game where there could have been interesting branching story paths, however, they fail to take that opportunity, which is disappointing.

Black and White

Pechka’s visual themes are fantastic. It uses a black-and-white color scheme throughout the story. This works well with the story’s theme, which is the horrors of war. Furthermore, characters important to Pyotr are given a little bit of color, to show the player that these characters are important to both the story and Pyotr, as they are his light in the darkness. Despite the simple design the character models and faces are very expressive, which makes for fantastic emotional moments in the story. I found myself very immersed in the game world thanks to its graphical style.

Pechka’s soundtrack was also fantastic. The atmospheric soundtrack makes you feel what Pyotr is feeling at the moment. Even the lack of music is used to give the player the feeling that something is off. Unfortunately, while the music does a great job of setting the tone, it can be very repetitive at times. Especially since the same tracks are used throughout the whole game. Pechka could have used some more songs or some unique themes for the characters. Overall, the soundtrack is still great, as is the visuals.

Talking about the difficult choices

Great story but not much else

Pechka is a hard game to recommend. If you are looking for a great story, with an immersive soundtrack and great visual themes, then Pechka has you covered. However, if you are looking for a visual novel game with plenty of story-impacting choices, or any gameplay at all, you would be better off looking elsewhere. For those who want to try this game out, you can find it here.

Preview: Techno Banter

Techno Banter was a game that I enjoyed whilst at Develop Brighton. This Early Access preview gave me a glimpse into a seedy yet humorous world. Furthermore, this grim environment was full of danger, snappy one-liners, and plenty of game-changing decisions. Accordingly, this title can be as simple or as complex as you like it to be.

Developed by Dexai Arts and published by Crunching Koalas, this is a techno-infused adventure title. Moreover, it tests your witty nature and ability to read between the lines. As such, you may make mistakes as you try to complete your job as a bouncer at a weird nightclub.

Techno Banter is full of weird and wonderful characters.
Will you let this hunky panda in?

Techno Banter is dark yet funny.

Helping out as a bouncer at your local nightclub was never meant to be easy. However, things are made worse when you have to deal with anthropomorphic denizens. These seedy individuals will stop at nothing to party the night away in the coolest venue in town. Yet, it is your responsibility to keep the riff-raff out whilst improving the “coolness” of the night ahead.

This task isn’t for the faint of heart, as you are tested almost immediately. Your amphibian boss gives you a list of demands and you must try to match the clientele accordingly. By asking an array of open questions, you’ll discover what makes each would-be partygoer tick. Consequently, if they match the requirements, you can let them in. But, if they are bad for business, then you must refuse them entry. Normally, your potential clients don’t take refusal lying down, and this is where the fun begins.

Banter and one-liners.

No one likes to be scorned. Subsequently, whenever anyone is refused access to the nightclub, they will start an argument. However, you must keep your cool and listen to what they say. Once they finish talking, you must backchat them and throw them off balance. If you successfully overcome their advances, they will be sent packing. Yet, if they get the better of you, they will be allowed to enter the nightclub, and this is bad for business.

Occasionally, you will face some badass individuals that are tough to defeat. When this happens, you must stay calm and stick to the plan. If you fail, your score for the day will be badly impacted, and this will prevent you from upgrading the club and potentially helping those around you.

Explore the city in Techno Banter and see who wishes to party.
Talk to the locals and see who wishes to party.

Plenty more to see.

In its current build, the developers focused on the day-to-day running of your job. Yet, there promises to be plenty more to see and do. There will be an array of characters that can be helped and an upgrade system to improve the layout of the club. Furthermore, there will be side quests that can be completed or ignored.

This additional meat on the bone will add to an already impressive-looking title. The never-ending stream of punters and witty comebacks was enough to keep me busy. But I’d love to see if the upgrade system and additional quests impact the atmosphere and the desirable clients you wish to attract.

Techno Banter looks wonderfully seedy.

Techno Banter focuses on a pixelated and grim finish. The seedy nature of the nightclub and rundown neighbourhood leaves a lot to be desired. On top of this, the weird mixture of animals and humans will make you frown. There was nothing stranger than a muscly tiger or a pissed-off rhino. What’s more, the scantly clad ladies of the night add some colour to proceedings.

Talking of colour, Techno Banter is a neon-infused explosion of a game. The bright colours juxtapose the grey and sinister environment. Moreover, the excellent character models were great to look at. Accordingly, the developers cannot be accused of creating a mundane or dull title.

Where this truly excels is its banging soundtrack. Dexai Arts are influenced by the wonderful Berlin Techno dance scene. The phenomenal music is amazing to listen to! I adored the bass-heavy and BPM-enriched songs that play on a loop. Even if you are not a lover of this genre of music, you’ll admire the excellent party atmosphere.

Talk to the locals and invite them to the party.
She looks like she wants to party.

It is easy to play.

Techno Banter is a pleasure to play. Thanks to the simple controller layout and excellent UI, you can focus on your witty comebacks. Additionally, exploring the neighbourhood and upgrading the nightclub was easily achievable. Consequently, I can imagine that the extra tasks will be straightforward once they are incorporated.

I wasn’t able to gauge how long this would take to complete. Moreover, I didn’t get a sense of replay value or longevity. Yet, if the promised additional content is anything to go by, I believe this will keep you busy. What’s more, there is the ability to bum rush the core concept or enjoy every unique avenue. As such, this should draw you in repeatedly.

Techno Banter is unusual but addictive.

This is an edgy and niche title that won’t float everyone’s boat. However, I liked its weird characters, excellent environment, and dark humour. On top of this, the promise of additional content makes it even more moreish. As such, I liked it and I recommend you wishlist it here! The club’s reputation falls on your shoulders. Therefore, you must pick the right clients or pay the price. Listen to their answers, scrutinise their personalities, and humiliate those that don’t make the cut.

Review: Thronefall

Thronefall is a minimalist tower defence game that is addictive as hell! This simple game is surprisingly deep and tough to put down. What’s more, there is a leaderboard to top and many challenges to complete. Accordingly, though it appears understated at first glance, there is much more than first meets the eye.

Developed and published by GrizzlyGames, this is an indie tower defence title with base-building mechanics. What’s more, it requires a tactical mindset if you are to complete every object. As such, this is the perfect endeavour, whether you are a genre newbie or a renowned veteran.

Your foes have destroyed most of your base!
Oh no, they have caused so many problems.

Thronefall has no story!

A deep and rich story isn’t always necessary. However, no story at all is more than a little unusual. Yet, this is exactly what you get when you play Thronefall. For reasons unknown, you are riding around different kingdoms without a guard, army, or any royal entourage. Instead, it is your royal duty to rebuild your castle and protect it at all costs.

As the King, you thrive on power. However, each of your kingdoms is being attacked by random monsters. This alone is bad enough, but if they manage to destroy your castle, your reign is all but over. Consequently, you are required to spend your limited gold supply on new troops, defences, and ways of enhancing your income. If you can do this wisely, you may survive the onslaught and advance to the next arena.

How you survive is your choice!

At the start of each run, you are presented with a range of perks, weapons, and mutations. These elements are key to how easy or difficult each attempt will be. Will you arm yourself with a bow and enhance your combat options, or will you prefer close-quarter combat? Alternatively, will you improve your armour and power, or will you increase your productivity and earning potential? Whatever you decide will alter the course of each playthrough whilst adjusting your tactical mindset.

Alongside this, you can select mutations to make your enemies much tougher. Each of these core concepts is essential, as every one of them must be utilised to complete each stage. Subsequently, you must complete every set objective if you wish to save your kingdom. This is a difficult ask as increasing your enemies’ health and power requires a lot of luck and plenty of planning. Yet, if you get things right, the outcome is both enjoyable and rewarding.

The desert stage is cruel and unforgiving.
This sandy backdrop is cruel and unforgiving.

Improve your base and start each battle.

Every playthrough comprises a fixed number of battles. Furthermore, each fight takes place after you complete the planning stage. During this peaceful time, you are free to build houses, production lines, barracks, defences, and towers. Each of these items costs money that you earn by defeating your foes and keeping your production buildings and houses safe. As such, the better your defences, the more you can earn, and the more you can invest.

Once you are happy with your base layout, you can move your troops to the highlighted areas of assault. Here you can maximise your defensive duties by placing knights, soldiers, and ranged troops correctly. However, if you make an error, you can alter your troops at any point during the heat of the battle.

In the heat of the battle, your troops are automated. This was a great choice, as you are free to roam the battlefield and slaughter anyone in sight. Furthermore, you can orchestrate your troops to maximise your defensive potential. Yet, if you are killed or your base is destroyed, it is game over and you must start the stage again.

Thronefall looks great.

The isometric viewpoint and vivid colours complement one another. Additionally, the clean sprites and unique backdrops prevent this from becoming tedious. Furthermore, the animation is smooth, and I didn’t experience any performance issues. These elements are supported by the excellent stage design. Every chapter has its own setup, and this kept you on your toes. As such, though the gameplay loop was familiar, the action rarely felt strained or repetitive.

The audio is just as good. The simple but folksy soundtrack suits the rudimentary medieval gameplay. Moreover, the sharp and obnoxious sound effects are harsh, cruel, and brilliantly cold. Subsequently, I adored the blunt bludgeoning of every melee weapon. What’s more, who doesn’t love the twang of a bow as it annihilates its target?

Can you tackle your foes in the wintry environment?
Brrr. It’s a bit chilly.

It runs perfectly on Steam Deck.

I adore a great Steam Deck title. Thankfully, Thronefall plays wonderfully on this platform. Furthermore, it excels on PC as well. Consequently, it mattered not what input method you use; the game is just as easy to pick up and play either way.

Though Thronefall is a short game, it is addictive as hell. Additionally, there is plenty of replay value and longevity because of the different perks, weapons, and mutations. These modifiers alter every element of the gameplay and will keep you on your toes. Alongside this, a friendly leaderboard will test your score against that of your friends.

Thronefall is a great indie title.

I was sold by the genre and its Steam Deck validation. There is nothing better than playing a smooth and well-considered tower defence game. Luckily, Thronefall ticks these boxes as you try to protect your kingdom from hellish creatures. I adored the aesthetics and the straightforward action. What’s more, it is tough to put down and can be enjoyed casually. Accordingly, I cherished my time with it and I recommend that you buy it here! Can you save your kingdom? Plan your approach, kill every demonic wave, and save the day.

Review: Vinsetto High-Back Office Chair

The Vinsetto High-Back Office Chair from Aosom proves that comfort and quality don’t have to break the bank. This excellent chair is available for £99.99. However, at the time of this review, there is a whopping 26% off the RRP, making it even more affordable at just £72.99! This faux-leather chair is comfortable and cool during long gaming or working sessions. Furthermore, it looks great and the build quality is comparable to its more expensive peers.

Unlike its peers, the Vinsetto High-Back Office Chair keeps things simple. With minimal moving parts, this chair is easy to operate. What’s more, the pleasant armrests and strong wheeled feet allow you to relax and move without getting out of your seat. Additionally, the moveable parts are smooth and the levers are robust and built to last.

What’s in the box of the Vinsetto High-Back Office Chair?

  • The packaging is recyclable and understated. As such, it won’t catch the eye of any would-be deviants. Moreover, it protects its contents, and the box was easy to manage single-handedly.
  • The Vinsetto High-Back Office Chair comes in many parts. Thankfully, though, it is straightforward to construct and you can piece it together on your own.
  • Tools and screws are provided to construct the product. Luckily, some spare bits are included just in case you were to damage or lose a screw. Furthermore, you will not need any other tools to put this together.
  • A user guide talks you through the build and tells you the fundamentals.

Technical aspects.

The Vinsetto High-Back Office Chair doesn’t have an ergonomic system, nor does it have an adjustable headrest. Yet, this didn’t bother me too much. Thanks to the adjustable height, this works perfectly with an array of desks and gaming options. Furthermore, the strong wheels allow you to move freely on hard floors.

The gas-powered strut is smooth and steady. Moreover, the lever is easy to locate and operate. Alongside this, the rigid armrests are designed to support your arms without being in the way. Subsequently, they are set at the perfect height to comfortably operate a mouse and keyboard or a gamepad.

Gaming and working can be tiring endeavours. Consequently, you may wish to lean back and relax. Thankfully, you can do this as the back tilts to a pleasant angle. By simply leaning back, the chair smoothly adjusts to your favoured position. However, once you are ready to spring into action, the back will slowly reset itself to allow you to keep on working.

Build quality.

The faux leather finish is pleasant to look at and it is fire retardant. As such, you are assured that this looks good and is a safe chair to own. The hardened plastic feels robust and should survive some roughhousing. Yet, I would be careful with it hitting abrasive surfaces. The blackened finish could become damaged and will potentially scratch.

The plush padded seat and backrest are fantastic for long gaming/working sessions. Additionally, thanks to the central mesh-style material, the chair is always cool and a joy to sit in. The material looks attractive thanks to the clean stitching and tight curves. Moreover, the striking red-on-black finish gives it an edgy look that will complement any high-end gaming rig.

Finally, this excellent chair is easy to maintain and keep clean. Whenever you work and game for long periods, you are going to need to eat and drink. Occasionally, accidents happen and this can lead to a nightmare cleanup. Luckily, though, that isn’t the case with the Vinsetto High-Back Office Chair. Every element of this chair is simple to clean and straightforward to maintain.

Is the Vinsetto High-Back Office Chair worth it?

I’ve looked at some incredible ergonomic chairs, for example, the BS12 Pro from FlexiSpot. However, this all-singing and all-dancing chair has a price point to match. As such, I didn’t expect the Vinsetto High-Back Office Chair to hit that standard. Whenever I’m spending under £100, I want a comfortable and stylish option that will last me a considerable amount of time. What’s more, I want it to be easy to use while looking great at my desk. Luckily, this chair does all that and more. As such, I can easily recommend that you buy it here! If this article has piqued your interest, use code DW15 for a further 15% saving.

Review: Monoprice 13-in-1 Triple Docking Station

0

The Monoprice 13-in-1 Triple Docking Station is an exceptional tool that can streamline your office space. Moreover, it goes one better than the Monoprice 12-in-1 Triple Docking Station. Thankfully, this unit includes a DP port instead of the tried-and-tested VGA output. Accordingly, this setup is better suited to those with a more advanced rig.

This incredible docking station allows the user to enhance their productivity whilst allowing up to 3 simultaneous displays. Furthermore, you can connect an array of USB-powered accessories or transfer data at an alarming rate. What’s more, it can be connected to a local network thanks to its Gigabit Ethernet port. As such, this is a great option if you wish to simplify your office space without compromising your performance.

What’s in the box of the Monoprice 13-in-1 Triple Docking Station?

  • The stylish packaging is sleek and professional. I admired the monochromatic design and the simple imagery. Moreover, it is fully recyclable and that must be applauded.
  • The Monoprice 13-in-1 Triple Docking Station is compact, lightweight, and built to last. Additionally, the ports are well-labelled and this device can be transported with ease.
  • A user manual helps explain the fundamentals.

Technical aspects.

Docking stations must be easy to use and simple to set up. What’s more, I desire exceptional data transfer speeds and incredible output resolution. Luckily, the Monoprice 13-in-1 Triple Docking Station delivers each of these requirements and much, much more. This device houses a whopping 5 high-speed USB-A ports. 3 of them allow up to 5 Gbps data speeds with a maximum power output of 5V/0.9A. Additionally, the remaining ports are USB-A 2.0. These allow up to 480 Mbps data speeds.

These well-labelled ports offer enough USB slots for the busiest of users. Whether you work in an office or you game and stream, you need not worry. Accordingly, you can connect your controller, mouse and keyboard, external hard drive, and much more to this amazing device. Alongside this, you can hook up to your local network thanks to the RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet port. This stable connection is perfect if you don’t wish to rely on Wi-Fi. During testing, this delivered a steady and problem-free connection.

The Monoprice 13-in-1 Triple Docking Station allows you to fast charge any compatible device.

Expand your display real estate.

Working from one screen is all well and good. However, for some of us, this isn’t enough. Yet, setting up additional screens and running all those cables is messy and unsightly. Fortunately, the Monoprice 13-in-1 Triple Docking Station lets you connect up to 3 displays with a 4K resolution. However, depending if your source is DP1.4 or DP1.2 mode, it will impact your display resolution. At worst, you will observe 4Kx2K 30 Hz / 3840×2160. At best, however, you’ll enjoy 4Kx2K 60 Hz / 3840×2160. Consequently, both options are viable no matter your needs.

During testing, I had to play around a little to get things just right. Yet, once I was set, I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. The transition between each display was seamless and the resolution and refresh rate was nice to look at. Moreover, thanks to the Monoprice DisplayPort 1.4 to 8K cable, I enjoyed sharp visuals and a robust and stable setup.

The Monoprice 13-in-1 Triple Docking Station lets you use 3 screen simultaneously.

SD reader and through charging.

If you are a content creator or a budding photographer, you’ll want a reliable way to transfer videos and images. Thankfully, the Monoprice 13-in-1 Triple Docking Station has both an SD and Micro SD reader. These sturdy and snug ports work simultaneously while keeping your precious cards safe. With read speeds of 20-40 MB/s and write speeds of 10-30 MB/s, they deliver impressive data transfer speeds.

Alongside this, you can connect any compatible device to the USB-C power delivery port. This exceptional charging point supports 100W as a power adapter. Accordingly, you can charge your host laptop without the hassle of additional cables. Alternatively, you can fast charge other devices as long as you use the correctly rated cable.

Build quality.

This device has a professional edge thanks to its metal finish and sleek black plastic moulding. Moreover, the embossed silver text highlights each port while complementing the core colour. USB-A ports line each side of the docking station. Furthermore, the HDMI ports and DP port are located towards the front. Consequently, this was a great decision as it was easy to switch between ports if you wished to improve your refresh rate.

The USB-C cable is built in and the sturdy and thick rubberised material is robust and hard-wearing. Additionally, the lightweight design was a pleasant surprise, as this makes it easier to transport the device from your home to your office.

Is the Monoprice 13-in-1 Triple Docking Station worth it?

The Monoprice 13-in-1 Triple Docking Station is available for $54.99. I believe that this is an exceptional price point for an incredible piece of tech. Not only does it allow you to use 3 screens simultaneously, but you can transfer data at impressive speeds. Subsequently, this device will increase your productivity whilst tidying up your workspace. As such, I loved it and I recommend that you buy it here!

The Monoprice 13-in-1 Triple Docking Station has been awarded the Movies Games and Tech Gold Award.

Review: Nimbus INFINITY

I’m not a superstitious man, but the first time I pressed A to proceed to Nimbus INFINITY‘s main menu, it threw up a fatal error and crashed to desktop. I felt like Dante Alighieri reading the inscription on the gates of hell. Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch’intrate. It wasn’t the best start, is what I’m getting at. The feeling turned out to be rather on the money, as there was a lot in Nimbus INFINITY that rubbed me up the wrong way. As a first proper step into a beloved genre, it wasn’t selling it.

The actual mech combat isn’t the main issue, mind you, as you’ll see as we pick it apart. It’s just an unfortunate fact that no matter how solid the core, things will always be dragged down if the set dressing isn’t up to snuff. In this case, moving the game from Japanese to English left Nimbus INFINITY with a bizarre feeling throughout, which no amount of giant robots could salvage.

Nimbus INFINITY - Warspite attacking a battleship called Moby Dick

Dōmo Arigatō Misutā Robotto

Alright, let’s start with the reason we’re here: mechs. This is my first foray into the genre, unless you count Shogo: Mobile Armor Division. Which you probably don’t. Our mech, or ‘Battle Frame’ as it’s known, in this case is Warspite, a high-tech mech with a fully customistable loadout. Weapons can be tailored from distant sniper shots all the way up to shotguns. I went for a mid-range feel, with some heavy shoulder mounted cannons for anything that had a bit of muscle to it. Worked quite well, even if things did tend to whizz past a little too fast for my weary brain.

Still, actually controlling the mech feels nice, once you get used to it. Nimbus INFINITY‘s slightly wonky controller support didn’t help, but after the first mission I was merrily whizzing about. It’s nice for space to actually feel properly three dimensional. To actually attack, you lock on to enemies and keep them if your sights as they zoom around. It works well, even if most of the combat does dissolve into little yellow circles winking out of existince in a hail of bright lights. Our hitbox felt a little oddly shaped too, especially when dealing with lasers. Fighting larger ships, though, can feel downright exciting.

Nimbus INFINITY - Warspite attacking a laser turret

A Little Less Conversation

I carefully used the word ‘can’ in that last sentence, because everything else in Nimbus INFINITY brings it down a little. Let’s start with the writing. It has the hallmarks of something that’s been translated directly into English. The main ones being the characters all getting confused about who’s talking to who and a general awkward feel to the conversations. As for the plot, well it follows on from Project Nimbus, which I’ve not played. It’s a mish-mash of political intrigue, with some promising notes. Didn’t have much of a chance to catch up on it though, as a lot of it is layered over the gameplay. Hard to concentrate on someone wittering in my ear when I’m facing down a giant wall of missiles.

Not that I’d want to listen to them much anyway, due to the pretty poor voice acting. All lines are delivered strangely slowly and without any real emotion. Especially the British characters, which feels a little personal. I can’t help but feel that the developers just used the initial script read for every actor. That or the actors were exceedingly drunk. At times, I wondered if it was going for a deliberate B-Movie feel, à la Earth Defense Force, but it seems to be playing everything straight. There were strange misprounciations of both Japanese and English words too. Even simple ones like ‘biplanes’. I’m guessing they weren’t given any notes with the script. Perhaps they were just locked in a cupboard and told to record all their lines in five minutes or they’d be blasted by a laser. The captain does a passible Keith David impression though.

Nimbus INFINITY - Warspite inside a base, attacking enemy ships

Fatal Error

There’s also a strong sense of instability throughout, like Nimbus INFINITY is being held together by sellotape. It crashed multiple times for one, which required a full restart of the mission – including the visual novel sections. Given the writing and acting, this grew to be excrutiating. Other minor gripes include some awful sound mixing and a sickening camera wobble during cutscenes. That, and the constant filling of the screen with bright lasers made it hard to figure out what was going on.

Which brings us back to where we started: the mech combat. When the music gets going and you blast forward into the enemy lines, it’s exciting. Fun, even. To me, though, it just boiled down to locking on and spamming the trigger until everything died. It came alive most in the one-on-one fights. The final boss fight was the most exciting, as it used all ranges – even melee. Then it was done and the game was over. I felt like I was finally getting it and it was gone. What it left me with was a profound feeling that there’s an interesting core buried somewhere in Nimbus INFINITY. It’s just a shame it’s dragged down by everything else, leaving it simply sub-par.

Review: Tranya S2 smartwatch

0

The Tranya S2 smartwatch is an impressive all-rounder. Though it markets itself as a sports accessory, I can’t see hardcore athletes jumping to buy one of these devices. Instead, I think this is the perfect option for walkers, part-time sports people, and those who wish to have a smart-looking watch/step counter.

This device does track an awful lot of data. As such, you can keep on top of your oxygen levels, heart rate, sleep pattern, the weather, and up to 25 unique sports. On top of this, there is the “Glory Fit” app that enhances your experience further still. Additionally, unlike its peers, this is relatively straightforward to master. Accordingly, with a little trial and error, you’ll be tracking your exercise, understanding your physiological cycle, and much, much more.

What’s in the box of the Tranya S2 smartwatch?

  • The bright and sleek packaging is professional and striking. A monochromatic design keeps things simple while making them pleasant to the eye. Furthermore, it is made from cardboard and can be recycled with ease.
  • The Tranya S2 smartwatch has a wide screen but is lightweight. The watch has a black finish, and the rubberised strap feels solid and comfortable against your skin. Moreover, there are 2 tactile buttons to power the device and select any exercises. To the rear of the watch is a heart rate monitor. The sensors emit a green hue, but this cannot be seen once it is placed on your wrist.
  • A USB-A charger with a unique Tranya connector is provided. The rubberised cable is hard-wearing and built to last.
  • The user guide is essential to get the best out of this accessory. Furthermore, there is a QR code to download the “Glory Fit” app.

Technical aspects.

This all-rounder has a vast range of tools at its disposal. Whether you want it to count your steps, or you wish to track your running whilst controlling your music, it has it all. On top of this, you can monitor the weather, keep an eye on your O2 levels, and you can see how well you are sleeping. Alongside this, it is water-resistant up to 30 metres and it has a 7-10 day battery life. Accordingly, this is an excellent device if you want a jack of all trades.

The accurate heart rate monitor and O2 sensor compare closely to the one on my Garmin Fenix Pro 6. Furthermore, the GPS for distance and time are surprisingly close as well. Subsequently, I know that the Tranya S2 smartwatch delivers an accurate reading for exercising and health monitoring. Alongside this, the display is vibrant, busy, and full of details. Additionally, the touch screen allows you to swipe between settings with ease. As such, you can view your daily and weekly stats within seconds.

Notifications.

Like its peers, this watch allows you to stay connected to your mobile phone. I hate this option, but I know that many people find it useful. Accordingly, I kept it switched on for this review. If you wish, you can funnel every social media notification as well as phone calls and messaging through your watch. Therefore, you can choose to reject a call without getting your phone out of your pocket. Alternatively, you can look through the endless stream of social notifications if you so wish.

Though this isn’t something I find useful, I liked how easy it was to navigate each notification. Moreover, there was no lag between my phone ringing and the watch picking up the information. What’s more, managing and removing unwanted messages was an easy task. Subsequently, Tranya has made this a user-friendly device that can be mastered by the greatest of technophobes.

Glory Fit” app.

If you purchase this watch, I suggest you install the “Glory Fit” app. Like Strava, Fitbit and Garmin Connect, this app tracks every activity you have completed. Furthermore, the more personal data you input, the more accurate the results are. Consequently, if you enter your weight and height, the app will determine how fit you are.

Alongside this, it’ll track your level of exercise and highlight the number of steps you have completed. This simple but effective tool helps you to keep on top of your goals. If you have used Garmin Connect or Strava, do not expect this app to be as robust or in-depth. Instead, you get a pleasant overview that’ll appease a lower-end user. Accordingly, it is perfect for people that don’t need every ounce of data to be happy.

Build quality.

The 1.32” wide screen high-resolution display is pleasant to look at. With striking fonts and vivid colours, it looks great on your arm. Moreover, if you are running or cycling, it is easy to see the display without having to stop. Though the display is large, the watch is extremely lightweight. As such, it was easy to forget that you were wearing it at all.

The rubberised wrist strap is the perfect choice for a sports watch. This robust material will take a bit of a beating without breaking or getting damaged. Additionally, it is easy to clean whether it gets sweaty or covered in mud, salt, or any other bits of dirt.

I liked the combination of tactile side buttons and the excellent touch screen. Even when the display is dirty or wet, I experienced no issues or input lag. What’s more, the buttons were responsive and selecting your activities or other features was a cinch.

Review: Yomi 2

Card games are always looking at new ways to reinvent themselves while maintaining a balance of both complexity and simplicity for those looking to just jump in along with those who are in it for the long hall. The Indie scene has become overrun with card based games and Yomi 2 is another entry in the over saturated market. While I open some time with Yomi 2 and enjoyed it, I still haven’t won a single match at the time of writing this and there isn’t much there to encourage me to keep trying.

There is a story mode to be found here and while I would love to tell you me about it, The game does require you to win in order to progress the story. Winning was something I found myself unable to do so I can’t speak much on this aspect. It seems to start off with the traditional tournament arc that most card based games shoot for so I don’ think I have missed much on this end. One of the more interesting things that I realized during my short time in the story mode was how the players see to communicate with one another. After each battle (or loss in my experience) we see notifications on a social media app in game that talks about each match. This gives us some personality in the characters we come across during our time in the story mode.

Story mode is a wonderful place to start off with when it comes to learning the game. Yomi 2 is a card based fighting game, with each character having their own deck and play style. I found myself playing Grave a lot due to his simplicity. Each character has their own difficulty rating and play style. With characters being broken up into Zoning, Rush-down, Grappling, and wild card, There is a lot of variety to be found so there is a character for everyone. You can switch characters before each fight to get a feel for them but there is also a reference page that allows you to check out each characters deck. Along with a multitude of characters and play styles, there are also colors that you can select when picking your deck. This gives various buffs and bonuses to certain actions which allows for even more customization in the way you play. We have touched on a lot of aspects here and we haven’t even talked about the way combat unfolds.

After selecting a character and color for their deck, things start to really get interesting. The tutorial explains that each card has a different move and certain moves cancel each other out. We have throws, Blocks, attacks, projectiles, and specials that are readily available at the start of our turn. If we are able to get past our enemies defenses than we are allowed to unleash devastating combos to dwindle their health down. It is important to keep in mind that you can only string together combos with certain cards so keeping an eye out for combos as well as opening moves adds a certain level of complexity here. While the game does a good job of explaining all of this, there is still a strong level of difficulty to be found here. I found that each time I threw out a card, my opponent either countered my card or blocked it which left me open for combos. This is what caused my downfall on multiple occasions an brings up the conversation of difficulty.

Yomi 2 is a difficult game to learn and playing against the CPU means that you will be facing defeat on multiple occasions until you learn how the game plays. Although I’ve played through the tutorial on multiple occasions, I still found myself struggling to progress in the story mode. Thankfully, there are a couple of other modes you can take part in. With both online multiplayer and a mode that lets you pass turns around in local multiplayer, there is room for improvement and a way to better learn the game without hitting your head against the wall repeatedly. I had a blast playing the game with some friends in the same room since local multiplayer seems to be a thing of the past that pops up more frequently as a selling point than anything else.

Deck based games have been growing in popularity over time and the Indie scene has done a wonderful job of helping the genre gain traction. The ability to play both online and in local multiplayer is something I would love to see in more games moving forward. The most unfortunate thing here has to be the difficulty found in Yomi 2 since this could be detrimental to a new players experience. I was unable to find a difficulty slider but I believe this would be beneficial for the story mode. This would be a nice way to experience the game whiteout having to deal with the consistent failure that is to be found here. While it was a fun experience and one I’m glad I had, it is hard to recommend for those who would like a casual experience.

Review: AMVR Portable Neck Hanging Power Bank

If you have a problem with battery life during extended gameplay sessions on your favourite VR headset, you may need an external battery pack. A lot of battery packs, while good at what they do, can increase the weight of the headset, which over time will fatigue the neck and ruin the balance. This is where the portable neck-hanging power bank from AMVR comes in.

The Power Bank

The power bank offers an additional 8000mAh for any VR headset with a USB-C connection. Set up is incredibly simple. Plug it in and put it around your neck. That’s it. Once connected, it will charge your headset fully at least 1.5 times before you’ll need to charge up again. This extends playtime from two to three hours to a fantastic seven to eight hours. I will say this is longer than any play session I’ve ever had in VR, and I can’t fault the product’s effectiveness in keeping me connected. I tested the battery pack with both Quest 2 and PICO 4, and with both, it worked perfectly.

One of the most important things with PICO 4 (that I go on about a lot!) is how well-balanced the headset is. The headset designers put a lot of effort into making sure the balance between the front and back was fantastic and the weight was comfortable for prolonged wearing. With other battery packs that connect to the headset directly, there is a risk that this balance can be skewed and lead to neck strain. As the neck-hanging power bank from AMVR hangs around your neck, this isn’t a problem.

I will say that it does take some getting used to. The power bank itself isn’t too heavy, but it certainly feels weird when you first put it on. The strap part is rigid, with some flexibility to allow you to mould it to your body and neck. It will keep that position until you move it. The silicone-like coating ensures comfort. There’s a magnet connection to keep it secure for those more active games, which is a nice touch. At no point did I feel restricted by wearing it.

The whole thing feels premium and sleek in its design, and there’s only a single button to turn it on and a few LEDs to show the power level. The simplicity adds to its elegance.

What’s In The Box?

  • 1x AMVR Portable Neck Hanging Power Bank
  • 1x USB-C Cable
  • 1x Cable-tie
  • Literature

Final Thoughts On The AMVR Portable Neck Hanging Power Bank

While it takes a little getting used to, the AMVR Portable Neck Hanging Power Bank is a great solution to the problem of VR headsets not having quite enough when it comes to battery life. The design is sleek enough, and the silicone-coated neck strap is rigid enough to support the weight but flexible enough to mould to your body shape. Where function is concerned, the performance is fantastic. Overall, this is a great solution if you don’t want to ruin how lightweight and balanced your headset is but need that extra battery life.

Review: Layers of Fear (2023)

Layers of Fear (2023) gives this much-loved title a modern polish. Built on Unreal Engine 5, this exceptional game supports Ray Tracing, HDR, and 4K resolution. Moreover, it includes every game and DLC in the franchise and will impress existing and new fans alike. Now, I know the idea of another remake/remastered game is tedious. However, this is one modern remake that you won’t want to miss.

Developed by Anshar Studios and Bloober Team SA and published by the latter, this is a narrative horror title. What’s more, there are traditional jump scares and some minor puzzle elements. Furthermore, the setting is outstanding, the 4K finish is mesmerising, and the audio is out of this world. As such, this is a breathtaking experience that you cannot afford to miss.

Explore the mansion and understand the madness.
This place is familiar.

Layers of Fear (2023) tells a disturbing story.

You play the part of a crazed painter who is obsessed with perfection. His magnum opus drives his madness as he pushes his wife away. However, it is this psychotic state that generates the disturbing narrative gameplay. As the painter’s world falls apart, the surrounding world burns and melts away. Furthermore, Layers of Fear (2023) beautifully intertwine other viewpoints in chronological order. As such, the story makes more sense and plot holes are wonderfully filled.

This complete version includes Layers of Fear and the Inheritance DLC, Layers of Fear 2, The Lighthouse Chapter, and the Final Note DLC. Mostly, the additional content stays true to its original form. However, the Final Note DLC alters the perspective of the Painter’s wife. This was an excellent move that generates a fresh outlook on the protagonist’s relationship. Additionally, The Lighthouse Chapter cements every element to create a worthy conclusion that clears up any misunderstandings. As such, this modern version will impress fans of the franchise.

Horrific gameplay.

Layers of Fear (2023) could be accused of being a walking simulation title. Yet, I think this is unfair. Yes, much of the action demands a slow and methodical approach, but the gameplay is genuinely captivating. The horrific nature of the action is uncomfortable from the off. Moreover, you’ll be on the edge of your seat as the world evolves and crumbles around you.

As you explore your Victorian mansion, you soon realise the world is not as it seems. Your psychological mindset plays tricks on you and your paintings come to life. Additionally, haunting notes of arguments with your wife punctuate every chapter. Consequently, you are drip-fed key moments that help to put the meat onto the bone.

A shadow appears at the window.
What the hell is that?

Cliched jump scares.

Some may argue that cliched jump scares are a thing of the past. However, I think the developers have incorporated them brilliantly. The oppressive atmosphere makes your heart race. Yet, it is the cheesy jump scares that make you leap out of your skin. You’ll swear repeatedly as minor parlour tricks catch you out.

Alongside this, you’ll grind your teeth as the scary action draws you in. The ever-changing mansion plays with your mind and you won’t know if you are coming or going. Furthermore, minor puzzles and problems generate some head-scratching moments that offer some light relief. This combination of storytelling and rudimentary problem-solving was incredible. Yet, you never know when the next horrific moment was, therefore, you could never relax, and that was fascinating.

Layers of Fear (2023) looks incredible.

The original wasn’t a bad-looking game. Yet, thanks to Unreal Engine 5, it now looks phenomenal. The seamless transition between rooms and the beautifully oppressive environments is stunning. Moreover, the animation of the failing world will blow your mind. I adored the creepy first-person perspective as it enhances the sinister nature of the gameplay without milking the genre too much.

Visually, this is incredible! However, it is the amazing soundscape that wins the day. The spectacular ambient sound will send shivers down your spine. Moreover, the excellent soundtrack adds to the creepy atmosphere. If you then consider the excellent acting, you’ll fall for Layers of Fear (2023’s) horror charms.

Find the paintings and watch the world change.
What will happen to this painting?

Excellent controls.

The control system is well-considered. As such, it is easy to understand what must be done, and every task is straightforward. Furthermore, completing each puzzle is a cinch as the controls are responsive and well laid out.

Every chapter contains plenty of collectables, notes, and other minor items. As such, there are plenty of things to look for as you uncover the maddening truth. Additionally, the full array of DLC will keep you busy for hours. Subsequently, Layers of Fear (2023) is fantastic value for money and a must-have horror experience.

Layers of Fear (2023) is cruel, sinister, and fantastic.

I wouldn’t normally gush over a remake title. However, Layers of Fear (2023) is cruel, sinister, and fantastic. Consequently, every element of this remake has been improved, and that is pretty impressive. If you want a slow game that is story-rich and wonderfully horrific, then look no further. Accordingly, I loved every moment and I recommend that you buy it here! Can you piece together every layer of this uncomfortable title? Search the mansion, find the clues, and complete the story.

The Art of Winning: Mastering Your Gameplay at Online Casinos

2

Winning at online casinos involves talent, planning and self-control. Essential factors include knowing how games work, picking the correct games and managing your money. Learning the rules and strategies of various casino games, from classic table games to exciting slots, can significantly improve your chances of success. Moreover, responsible gambling practices, such as setting and sticking to a budget and knowing when to take breaks, ensure a sustainable and enjoyable gaming experience. Exploiting bonuses and promotions offered by online casinos can provide additional opportunities to win and enhance your gameplay. By embracing these techniques, players can elevate their gaming prowess and increase their odds of winning real money online gambling at online casinos.

Understanding game mechanics: Learning the rules and strategies

To excel in online casino gaming, understanding game mechanics is essential. Learning the rules and strategies of different games empowers players to make informed decisions and improve their gameplay. Whether mastering the intricacies of blackjack, comprehending the odds in roulette, or unraveling the strategies in poker, each game demands its unique approach. Utilizing free-play options or demo versions of games is an excellent way to familiarize oneself with game mechanics without risking real money. Additionally, exploring online resources, tutorials and guides can further deepen one’s understanding of casino games. By becoming well-versed in-game mechanics, players can confidently navigate online casinos and optimize their chances of winning.

Bankroll management: Setting and sticking to a budget

Effective bankroll management is the backbone of successful online casino gaming. Setting a budget for gambling activities ensures that players can enjoy the thrill of gaming without jeopardizing their financial well-being. It’s crucial to allocate a specific amount dedicated solely to online casino play and avoid exceeding it. Players should divide their bankroll into smaller sessions to prevent overspending in a single sitting. Sticking to the budget requires discipline and self-control, even amidst enticing opportunities. By adhering to sound bankroll management practices, players can savor the excitement of online casino games while maintaining financial stability.

Choosing the right games: Finding ones that suit your playing style

With a vast array of games available at online casinos, choosing the right ones that align with your playing style is crucial. Each player may have different preferences, whether the adrenaline rush of high volatility slots or the strategic approach of table games. Understanding the Return to Player (RTP) percentages and game volatility levels helps make informed choices. Exploring different game genres, themes, and features can also lead to discovering new favorites. Whether you’re a risk-taker seeking big wins or prefer steady, smaller payouts, there’s a game to match every playing style. Selecting games that resonate with your preferences can enhance your enjoyment and increase your potential for winning.

Exploiting bonuses and promotions: Maximizing opportunities to win

Smart players may take advantage of bonuses and promotions online casinos offer to raise their chances of winning. Among the benefits are welcome bonuses, free spins, cashback deals and loyalty programs. Carefully reading the terms and conditions and understanding wagering requirements are essential to exploit these bonuses fully. Additionally, timing your gameplay to coincide with special promotions or events can offer added benefits. However, responsible gambling remains paramount and players should avoid chasing bonuses or jeopardizing their bankroll. By smartly using bonuses and promotions, players can elevate their gaming experience and potentially boost their winnings.

Responsible gambling: Maintaining control for sustainable success

Responsible gambling is the cornerstone of long-term success and enjoyment in online casino gaming. Setting limits on time and money spent gambling, and adhering to them, ensures that playing remains a fun and responsible pastime. Recognizing signs of problem gambling, such as chasing losses or neglecting personal and professional responsibilities, is crucial. Regular breaks during gameplay can provide a sense of balance and prevent excessive gambling. Seeking support from responsible gambling organizations or helplines is available for those who may need assistance. By prioritizing responsible gambling practices, players can sustain a healthy relationship with online casinos and enjoy a fulfilling and sustainable gaming experience.

Test Yourself with Free Games

When it comes to gameplay for online casinos, your best bet (no pun intended) would be to test out the waters with free-casino-oriented games. This could be something like poker (which is skill-based) or even just trying to better grasp the concept of luck-based games such as blackjack. But in general, if you’re just a beginner, it’s going to be for the best to just go ahead and play with free games, so you won’t risk losing time or money when you play the real deal.
