0

Battlefield 4 has been confirmed as one of EA’s ‘big’ next gen launches by EA Labels President Frank Gibeau.

Battlefield-3-Close-Quarters-Ziba-Tower-5_thumb.jpg

Writing in a blog entitled ‘Transition is our friend,’ Gibeau said “For EA’s creative teams, this transition comes as no surprise. We’ve been investing and innovating on new technology for months. Console partners who have seen our early work agree, EA’s next-gen software is nothing short of astonishing.

“At a GameStop company meeting earlier this week, we gave 500 store managers a sneak peek at Battlefield 4. The game received a huge ovation and thousands of fans reacted to a single enthusiastic Tweet by GameStop’s CEO.” It comes as no surprise that Battlefield 4 will be one of the games gracing both PS4 and the Next Xbox. Now we await confirmation of other big name EA titles, such as FIFA 14.

Xperia Z Tablet Confirmed at MWC 2013

Sony has confirmed that its new Xperia Z ultra-thin tablet will be released in international markets in the second quarter of 2013.

Just like the Xperia Z phone, the tablet of the same name is claimed to be waterproof – making it “immune to accidental spills and splashes” – and also dust proof.

sony-xperia-z-tablet-1

The tablet has a 10.1-inch HD display (1920×1200) with high brightness and high  definition video WUXGA technology, along with Sony’s Mobile Bravia Engine 2 for  boosting the image content and contrasts.

Running Android 4.1 Jelly  Bean, the Xperia Z tablet is powered by a 1.5Ghz quad-core processor and has an  8.1 million pixel camera on the rear, equipped with a CMOS sensor Exmor R for  the first time in a Sony tablet.

Sony says that the camera performs  better in low-light conditions, and automatically adjusts to the optimal  settings.

This all comes in a tablet that weighs 495g, but is just 6.9 millimetres thick –  beating the iPad  Mini’s 7.2mm, believed to be the previous thinnest tablet on the commercial  market.

The Xperia Z tablet supports Near Field Communications (NFC),  enabling one-touch wireless streaming of photos and music, and also Long Term  Evolution, or 4G internet, as well as WiFi.

“Xperia Tablet Z sets new  standards in entertainment by matching premium specifications and Sony  technology with cross-device connectivity and a consistent user-experience,”  said Sony Mobile’s Kaz Tajima.

“Xperia Tablet Z reinforces our intention  to be a leading player in the premium Android device market, by building on the  principles established by Xperia Z and perfectly optimising them for the tablet  form factor.”

Sony says that it has fitted the slate with “S-Force Front Surround 3D”, a new  technology that gives the user ‘virtual surround sound’ from the speakers.

Available in either black, white or red, the Xperia Z will launch in the  first Sony stores on March 1, and then roll out globally in the second quarter  of 2013.

sony-xperia-z-tablet-2
Official pricing has not yet been announced, but AllThingsD says that the 16 gigabyte WiFi version will cost $499 (£329)  in the US, and the 32GB model will cost $599.

The Xperia Z tablet will  launch on Android 4.1, but upgrade to 4.2 afterwards.

LG to launch four new Optimus series smartphones at MWC

MWC2013_overview_1[20130224155224544]

LG Electronics (LG) will unveil a smartphone lineup at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain that focuses on a four-tier strategy. The four strategic Optimus series devices – G, Vu:, F and LII – all feature LG’s next generation core technologies. These new models combine outstanding hardware, world-class high definition displays and a user-centric user experience (UX) with each series emphasizing a different facet of the company’s smartphone expertise.

With an initial target to sell 10 million smartphone each quarter and double sales of LTE devices in 2013, this is LG’s most ambitious smartphone strategy to date. Flagship models from the G and Vu: series will target the premium segment while the F and L series will be positioned as more mass audience smartphones for 4G LTE and the 3G markets, respectively.

LG Optimus G Series — Flagship Superphones Featuring World-class Hardware
Since the launch of LG’s Optimus G last September, the immensely popular flagship product has received a number of awards and favorable reviews thanks to its high quality display, advanced 4G LTE technology, superb design and innovative UX. Development of the Optimus G was the result of close collaboration with sister companies LG Chem, LG Display and LG Innotek.

The Optimus G is the first smartphone in the world to employ Qualcomm’s powerful Snapdragon™ S4 Pro Quad-Core processor. And LG’s True HD IPS Plus display and Zerogap Touch technology deliver vibrant, high quality images and superior touch responsiveness. In addition to its unmatched hardware, stylish design and a beautiful screen, the Optimus G also incorporates user-friendly UX features, such as QSlide, QuickMemo and Live Zooming.

Originally launched in key target LTE markets, the LG Optimus G is making its debut in over 50 countries. The newest addition to LG’s Optimus G series, the Optimus G Pro, was recently introduced to the Korean public. The Optimus G Pro is a 4G LTE-equipped smartphone with a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display and compelling new UX features such as Dual Recording and Virtual Reality (VR) Panorama.

LG Optimus Vu: Series — Large Screens for Enhanced Viewing Experience
A new hybrid LTE device that combines the portability of a smartphone with the viewing experience of a tablet, LG’s Optimus Vu: is equipped with a 5-inch, 4:3 aspect ratio display that is ideal for viewing documents, e-books, multimedia content and browsing the internet. With the recent addition of the Optimus Vu: 2 in the Korean market, there are now two devices in Vu: Series that deliver a unique mobile user experience with UX features such as Vu: Talk and QRemote.

LG Optimus F Series — 4G LTE Smartphone for Everyone
LG’s Optimus F Series is the ideal 4G LTE smartphones for just about everyone. Both the Optimus F5 and Optimus F7 were specifically designed for consumers making the transition from 3G to 4G LTE networks. The launch of Optimus F Series this year will enable LG to expand its footprint rapidly in the burgeoning 4G LTE market. LG Optimus F will deliver to new 4G customers the speed of LTE and a range of useful UX features without the high entry fee demanded by most 4G smartphones.

LG Optimus LII Series — Continuation of Unique Design Heritage
The Optimus LII Series incorporates the refined sensibilities of LG’s L-Style design philosophy. Each 3G phone’s subtle yet bold aesthetics are representative of LG’s unmistakable design DNA. Surpassing the beauty of the first L Series, the Optimus LII Series were developed around four new design elements: Seamless Layout, Laser Cut Contour, Radiant Rear Design and a home button with Smart LED Lighting.

Creative and Friendly UX — Intelligent Features That Go Beyond Hardware
LG continues to develop the most advanced UX in order to provide unrivaled user-centric features in the era of LTE technology and large, high-resolution displays. The company’s four new smartphone series include an array of advanced UX features that were designed to take maximum advantage of the hardware specific to these devices.

First unveiled on LG’s Optimus G, QSlide provides the ability to display two full-sized windows simultaneously, enabling users to perform a greater combination of tasks with increased efficiency. The recently upgraded version of QSlide allows for the opening of two apps at the same time in full screen mode and change the size, position and transparency of QSlide windows as needed. Video, browser, memo, calendar and calculator functions are all compatible with LG’s true multitasking UX. Dual Recording and Virtual Reality (VR) Panorama are two of the newest additions to LG’s UX specifically designed to take advantage of the latest Full HD display technologies to enhance the users’ mobile viewing experience.

Behind the scenes video of Ashley Roberts as she dons the Crysis 3 Nanosuit to become Prophet

1_thumb3

A few days ago I posted about my attempts to becoming Prophet in preparation for Crysis 3. What I didn’t have was a Nanosuit. We then told you about former Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts wearing a Nanosuit made of bodypoint! There’s also a behind the scenes video you can watch.

Ashley’s suit took a staggering six hours to create and was bodypaint.

Here is the behind the scenes video:

I think we can all agree that she certainly looks better in it than I ever could!

Set in 2047, Prophet is on a revenge mission after uncovering the truth behind Cell Corporation’s motives for building the quarantined Nanodomes. The citizens were told that the giant citywide structures were resurrected to protect the population and to cleanse these metropolises of the remnants of Ceph forces. In reality, the Nanodomes are CELL’s covert attempt at a land and technology grab in their quest for global domination. With Alien Ceph lurking around every corner and human enemies on the attack, nobody is safe in the path of vengeance. Everyone is a target in Prophet’s quest for retribution.

Crysis 3 out now in the UK and US for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Samsung announces HomeSync home hub solution

re_HOMESYNC_007_Dynamic2_Grey

Samsung Electronics today announced HomeSync, a home hub solution that gives you the best entertainment experience on a big screen TV, a shared storage big enough for an entire family, and a new way of enjoying your HDTV through a familiar and smarter Android user experience.

HomeSync brings the best of Android gaming, movies, TV shows and streaming content direct into your living room. It allows you to stream content from your Galaxy device wirelessly to the TV – letting you watch, see and use all your home videos, photos and apps, and all at a full HD 1080p.

HomeSync’s 1TB drive can help you sync to multiple devices, providing shared or private storage for all your content. It supports eight separate accounts to cover a whole family, and allows everyone to upload and download content from multiple devices and instantly share with other family members. File encryption and user-specific IDs and passwords mean content in your private area remains separate from the shared area in HomeSync.

Not only that, you can enjoy the full and familiar Android experience with HomeSync’s Jelly Bean media player and access to Play Store and all of your apps. HomeSync also enables new ways to interact with your content via the control modes enabled wirelessly on the phone.

Simon Stanford, Vice President of IM division, Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland said: “HomeSync is a really exciting addition to the Samsung portfolio. As the number of smart devices that a person owns continues to grow, sharing and streaming content will become even more popular, creating demand for somewhere that all this content can be stored safely and readily accessed. HomeSync was borne from our experience across multiple markets, including mobile, digital imaging and TV, enabling us to create a single connected media environment, where people’s content is accessible at any time through whichever screen they choose.”

Simon Stanford, Vice President of IM division, Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland said: “This year, we expect tablet growth to accelerate at the same fast pace we saw last year and are excited to be able to make the tablet experience accessible to a wider audience by adding to our existing portfolio of devices. The Galaxy Note was a completely new category of device when we launched the first one back in 2011, and it’s been extremely satisfying to watch it sell so well and grow in stature as our customers’ understanding of the category has grown.”

Slim and compact enough to become the perfect on-the-go work and play companion, the Galaxy Note 8.0 boasts powerful performance and functionality to support even the most demanding of lifestyles. Designed to store and manage your personal and professional data efficiently, the Galaxy Note 8.0 is the perfect pocket-sized hands-on tool to organise your life. Practical S Note templates and the S Planner feature, help you manage everyday tasks, including meeting notes, to-do lists and even personal diary entries.

All content can be entered and updated with in the finest detail thanks to the evolution of the Samsung S Pen. Enhanced precision is available with Handwriting-to-Text conversion, whilst advanced Productivity Tools that support formula and shape recognition are now available at the touch of the S Pen.

New content and services

Upgraded Chat-On allows for easy instant messaging and group chatting in multiple formats, including images, video, voice and contacts. Awesome Note, an integrated application that is available on an Android tablet for the first time with the Galaxy Note 8.0, means you can take unlimited notes including Memo, Diary and Must-remember lists.

With Flipboard, your news, social networks and other feeds come together in one stylish, flippable format so you can enjoy all your news in one place. Not only that, Flipboard developed a customised version of its application exclusively for Samsung that allows you to take the S Pen’s hover feature and preview article headers beneath Flipboard’s main screen tiles. Finally, Smart Remote gives you a universal remote control and electronic programming guide so you can manage your TV and video viewing seamlessly and easily.

A new age of S Pen intelligence

Optimised to aid personalised creativity, the Samsung S Pen has evolved since it first launched to increase everyday usability and enhance creation expression. Embedded within the tablet, the S Pen is an extension of the Galaxy Note 8.0. Removing the S Pen from the device will automatically launch features such as Pen Detection, which suggests adapted menus that it thinks you’ll need, and Page Buddy, a feature that will intuitively activate your most recently adapted S Note home screen.

Samsung’s S Pen technology is now so advanced that it doesn’t even have to touch the screen. With Air View, the S Pen needs only hover over the screen to see previews of videos, emails, photos and appointments on S Planner without having to actually open the file or application in full. S Pen Gesture means images and content to be easily edited and cropped, whilst Paper Artist and Photo Note allow photos to be artistically personalised.

In addition, for the very first time in the Galaxy Note category, you can use the S Pen to control the physical menu and back buttons on the device with WACOM technology.

Maximising mass multimedia consumption

Creative multi-tasking with the Galaxy Note 8.0 has never been easier thanks to its Dual View feature, two multi window options that allow you to facilitate multi-screen usage. Dual View’s split screen accommodates optimal operation of different apps, such as launching the S Note on the web browser screen and allowing content to be resized, dragged and dropped as required.

Multi-tasking has also been extended to phone calls. Pop Up Note allows you to access S Note at any time to keep track of key actions and Pop Up Video ensures you can keep surfing the web whilst chatting to friends, colleagues and family members – content windows can be easily resized by pinching to enlarge or reduce.

Perfect info-tainment partner

Reading Mode transforms the Galaxy Note 8.0 into an e-Book reader, providing the optimal reading conditions to ensure you can curl up and enjoy a good book. You can even turn it into a universal remote control with Smart Remote, to seamlessly manage your TV, set-up box, DVD & Blu-ray player.
