The Empire is sweeping through the continent like an unchecked wildfire and has its eyes set on the rich Ragnite deposits of the Principality of Gallia. Although peaceful Gallia remains neutral in the conflict, its citizens will need to defend home and country against the inevitable invasion. Mighty No 9 gets delayed again

0

The Mighty No. 9, the Kickstarter backed homage to classic Mega Man games, has been delayed again.

In a note on the Kickstarter page (via IGN), creator Keiji Inafune apologizes profusely and blames the latest delay on network bugs.

“In preparation for the February release of Mighty No. 9 we have been working hard with our partners to resolve any network issues and porting work necessary to publish Mighty No. 9 on the various platforms,” Inafune wrote. “However, the issues relating to the network modes were more critical than expected, and it has become apparent that we will need to delay the game from its 9th February release date. We have been working up until the very last moment to resolve these issues in order to make the February release, but it has become clear that we no longer have enough time to fix the issues and have everything prepared for release.”

He goes on to talk more specifically about problems with the matchmaking, due to the multiple platforms which require their own solutions, as well as the fact that the engine itself is no longer being updated.

“Unfortunately, this is all a result of miscalculations on the part of us, the development staff. As a result, our fans who have been looking forward to Mighty No. 9 have been forced to wait for over half a year longer than expected, and for that we are sincerely sorry. I want to take this chance to apologize personally, and on the behalf of the development staff. … For this 3rd delay of the game, we have no excuses for disappointing our fans and especially our backers once more. We want to take this chance to express our sincerest apologies to everyone who has looked forward to the release.”

The new release date is slated for “spring 2016.”

Publisher Deep Silver originally delayed it to September of last year, reasoning that it would allow for more content. Then it was pushed to Q1 2016, on account of bugs. The delays have generally come close to the expected release date, so it’s hard to say just when we’ll see it finally release.

Review: Game of Thrones: Episode Six: The Ice Dragon

It’s the final episode in Telltale Games’ take on the Game of Thrones franchise. Whilst the majority of their games take place over five episodes, in this case, there have been of course, six. Let’s hope this extra allowance for exposition and plot lines doesn’t interfere with their usual focus on pacing during ‘The Ice Dragon’.

With each of the characters strewn across the land, each trying to stem the inevitable onslaught of House Whitehill, things look bleak for the members of House Forrester. Factoring in the knowledge that anything to do with George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones series almost always ends in disaster and death for any beloved character, it’s suffice to say that things likely won’t go as you wish.

GoT_Finale_Mira
Things can only get better surely?

What with it being the final chapter in the series, I’ll try to go a little light on the actual events that occur throughout in order to avoid any particular major spoilers. Mira’s story arch takes a shocking turn during the end of the episode and finally takes place as probably my favourite character, particularly after a rather slow start. She’s posed with a few choices that will ultimately decide what form of person she is; it’s up to you and your previous selections to decide to either follow up on your promises or not. For me, I took the moral high ground, and was painfully pleased with the outcome. Especially as how her many predicaments in Kings Landing had grown upon me over the course of the series.

Gared Tuttle/Jon Snow’s ambitious quest to reach the fabled North Grove continues ever onwards too. After a few too many parallels between the two during the previous chapters, Gared’s tale, as with many others in the show itself, takes a turn for the occult; thankfully it distances the two a little more before it became farcical. Whilst you might not get any particular sense of closure from the ending of this individual’s tangent, it does at least feel as though a journey has been accomplished. Ultimately feeling like the central character throughout the episodes, puts a lot more pressure on the writers to come up with suitable interactions; sadly I do feel as though they’ve tried to cram in too many situations. It was heavily foretold in the first episode that he was to reach the North Grove, yet looking back; everything in-between feels more like filler to pad the length out for him.

GoT_Finale_Gared_tree
Jon Snow has a ponder

Due to the absolute choice you’ll have made in the last episode regarding the other two playable characters, I’ll not reveal the consequences of the actions you’ll have to account for in this one. It’s safe to say that in this episode, you’ll finally have a chance at acting out some pent up revenge due to there being a majority of battle scenes throughout. It’s handled well and dishes out some truly tense moments that seemingly only Telltale Games can manage of late. Aping the show in every sense, it was great to see some of the more diverse choices pan out and see how it affected the finale.

That said however, whilst playing through the ending, it’s painfully clear that a second series was in mind. Some story arcs are left feeling mostly complete, yet others are essentially left on a cliff-hanger. Whilst this wasn’t entirely unexpected due to how much they’d have had to squeeze into this final chapter, it does leave a little sourness after having connected with them all for so long. There is an unusual, but very welcome voiceover upon completion that goes over your significant choices in respect to other peoples; it did somehow help give a little closure after a slightly underwhelming ending.

GoT_Finale_Whitehill_army
I don’t think they’re here for mead and biscuits

As an overall series, it had its ups and downs, the pacing of some characters made them feel slightly underdeveloped and underutilised. The loveable rogue Asher for example, he finally started to become less of a side plot in the previous chapter. Throughout his saga he’s had some of the best character relationships, mainly due to his connection with Beskha, who on her own, could easily have been more fleshed out than some of the games’ main cast. Mira for me, started out plain, but seeing her become so embroiled in the savage political minefield of King’s Landing, and her trying to figure out how to play each and every person at their own game, eventually made her sections the most enjoyable to me by far.

An issue I had at the start with the game as a whole, were their equivalent ‘real’ counterparts, which at the very beginning, you couldn’t help feel they were a little too close to. Throughout the series however, some have blossomed into their own unique personalities and distanced themselves from the stigma of comparison. Sadly though, Gared (not Jon Snow) Tuttle still borrows too heavily for my liking.

At the end of the day, I had a great time with Telltale’s take on Game of Thrones, it might not be their best work, but that’s only because everything they touch is held to such high acclaim. If you’re a fan of their work, or even just a Game of Thrones fan, (I’m pretty sure that there’s a few of those out there too) then give it a go and see how badly you can make things for House Forrester.

Dying Light – The Following announces new twitter campaign

0

In the era of smart homes, smart heating, heart rate monitoring and the possibility to connect almost anything to the internet, game developer Techland made an even bolder move and created a never before seen experiment in the form of a Twitter campaign that will clear the fog from the map of the upcoming Dying Light: The Following – Enhanced Edition.

tweetforspeed1

This is how the event is described by Michał Napora, the game’s Community Manager:

“The idea came from the current trend of connecting anything and everything to the internet. We thought why not let anyone with a Twitter handle use the hashtag #TweetForSpeed to make a real difference in the lives of all Dying Light fans. Every tweet with this hashtag will make our specially modified slot car go around on its track and by doing so, it reveals more parts from the new map of the upcoming Dying Light: The Following ahead of its release. The further the car goes, the more will be revealed of the map of the already highly anticipated Dying Light: The Following for the both the fans of the game and newcomers alike.”

There are a lot of Dying Light fans in need, Techland would like to urge you to go crazy with the tweets and even if you just feel like sending a tweet to make a little car go around its track, follow and tweet @DyingLightGame with the hashtag #TweetForSpeed and watch the action unfold on our live Twitch broadcast by following this link. http://www.twitch.tv/techland

Dying Light: The Following will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox ONE and PC from the 9th February 2016.

Super Dungeon Bros coming this year

0

Today Wired Productions has released a brand new trailer for its upcoming rock-themed, co-op dungeon brawler,  Super Dungeon Bros, developed by independent studio React Games. Entitled “Meet the Bros,” the trailer officially introduces the game’s lovable, heavy metal-inspired heroes: Freddie, Lars, Axl, and Ozzie.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOFZ03vpSWA

The Bros:

Freddie:  You know that guy in a group of friends that does the stupidest and most insane things because they believe it could be funny, even if no one else will? Freddie is that guy. Branded in  red so he doesn’t get lost, this slightly-slow but incredibly lovable bro simply does not understand the concept of fear (or much else).

Super Dungeon Bros

Lars: Lars believes himself to be quite the ladies’ man, yet he becomes incoherent once he starts talking to the opposite sex. Still, at least he can fall back on his completely unrealistic goal of charming the Queen of Chillheim. Ultimately, this super-serious bro is all about getting the gold to match his armour and making all of his dreams come true.

Axl: Axl is the muscle of the group, and he isn’t afraid to remind everyone of that fact. A ‘fight first, ask questions never’ type of guy, Axl will get the job done—just as long as huge piles of skeletons and A LOT of property damage isn’t an issue, because the bro in  blue loves to smash bad dudes!

Ozzie: Ozzie is a genius. However, his ingenuity is more often used to cause mischief and mayhem on an unbelievable scale than it is to make Rökheim a better place. There’s a fine line between genius and insanity; we’re just not sure what side of the line Ozzie sits on. At least this  green-clad bro always knows how to get fellow bros out of a pinch.

Super Dungeon Bros is an up-to-4-player dungeon brawler that features compelling action RPG style gameplay with a signature hard rock twist. Teams of players either on or offline can take on the roles of heavy metal heroes; Axl, Ozzie, Freddie, and Lars and embark on a quest from the gods of rock to search ever-changing dungeons seeking out epic loot, fighting hordes of evil undead and uncovering the legends of long lost fabled Rock Stars!

Coming 2016 on Xbox One, Windows 10, PS4 and Steam (PC/Mac),  Super Dungeon Bros promises a top-notch co-op experience complete with amazing visuals and fantastically fun gameplay, and features  cross-device multiplayer compatibility between the PS4 and Steam versions as well as between the Xbox One and Windows 10 versions.
