Samsung has officially announced the much leaked S9 and S9+

Today Samsung has officially announced the much leaked Samsung S9 and S9+ at this years MWC 2018.

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ are powered by 10nm 64-bit Octa-core processors, in 2.7 GHz Quad + 1.7 GHz Quad and 2.8 GHz Quad + 1.7 GHz Quad configs respectively. They’ve also added some software improvements and upgraded the camera.

With the S9, the fingerprint reader is now situated below the rear camera, as opposed to the right. Likewise, the S9+ also benefits from the new fingerprint reader placement and goes the full dual-camera route, just like with Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8.

Camera

With Galaxy S9 release teased with the intriguing statement: “The camera reimagined”. In reality it seems less of a reimagining and more of a retooling of the S9’s camera, delivering a mechanical aperture that can switch between f1.5 and f2.4, the stated benefit is that in low light, the S9 will benefit from having the widest aperture on any flagship smartphone and in daylight it will automatically stop down to f2.4 to limit the light getting into the camera.

Samsung says the ability to switch between the two aperture settings will deliver more consistent high-quality camera performance in all lighting conditions. The combination of the S9’s high sensitivity dual pixel AF sensor, wider f1.5 aperture lens with optical image stabilisation and new 12-frame night capture mode make the S9 a formidable smartphone when it comes to taking pictures and recording videos in low-light conditions. The S9+ also features a dual camera (dual OIS) setup, adding the ability to zoom optically.

The phone’s camera module the S9 can now capture super-slow-mo video at 960fps @ 720p, with intelligent motion detection technology to help you capture the decisive dramatic moment every time. The slow-motion features have been implemented very well in the S9, making slow-mo intuitive to capture and easy to share. For selfies, the Galaxy S9 retains the front-facing 8MP f1.7 camera module from the S8 and S8+.

S9 AR Emoji

Samsung now supports 3D-face mapping to create personalised emoji, either from a captured photo or from a picture stored in your gallery. But instead of making poo emoji speak, you can be the emoji yourself, which is pretty neat. Analysing an image of your face the S9 will map over 100 facial features to imitate your expressions, such as winks and frowns in realtime. Once captured, the S9 saves the files in standard AGIF file format so that your personalised emojis can be shared in a wider variety of third party messaging platforms, such as Facebook messenger and assumably Whatsapp.

Bixby

Samsung’s intelligent assistant platform is further enhanced. Integrated with the S9 camera and benefitting from the phone’s improved processing power, Bixby uses augmented reality functions and machine learning tech to provide useful contextual information wherever you point the phone’s camera.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eY_XbkU74eo&feature=em-uploademail

For example, the S9 can tell you how many calories are in your meals, show you highlights in your current location and provide live translation of text and signs when you’re on your travels

Specs

  • Snapdragon 845 (US & China-only), Exynos 9810 (UK, Worldwide)
  • 4GB RAM
  • 5.8in (S9) and 6.2in (S9+) display

Both phones have a water and dust resistance of IP68, fast QC 2.0 wireless charging and retain their respective battery capacities of 3,000mAh and 3,500mAh.

The price for S9 will be £739 and the S9+ will be £869, the S9/S9+ will start shipping from 16th March, if you preorder the device before 10pm on the 8th of March, 2018 will receive their device on the 9th of March, 2018 – 7 days early at least (VodafoneUK/Three/EE and O2 UK) will do.

Depending on the app being used, the M-Pen also has tilt and shade effects, as if you’re holding a real pen and scribbling on paper.

Get ready for Detective Pikachu out 23rd March for the 3DS

0

It’s time for some serious sleuthing, as the new Detective Pikachu: Get ready to crack the case! trailer for Detective Pikachu shows off new characters and gameplay footage for the upcoming game, which launches on 23rd March.

• Trouble in Ryme City!: Ryme City is a place where people and Pokémon live together. But recently, many friendly Pokémon are going on a rampage for no reason. While Detective Pikachu and his friend Tim search for Tim’s father, Harry, they unwittingly stumble into the mysterious case of the rampaging Pokémon. Can they solve the mystery and also find Tim’s father?

• The Mysterious Mewtwo: While many different Pokémon appear in Detective Pikachu, the one who seems to hold the biggest connection to the overall mystery is Mewtwo. How is Mewtwo connected to everything? And why does Mewtwo know Detective Pikachu?
• A Colourful Cast of Characters: Many charming characters roam the streets of Ryme City. These include Pablo Millan, owner of Detective Pikachu’s favourite café; Frank Holliday, an inspector at the Ryme City Police Department; and Meiko Okamoto, a camera operator for the local TV studio. Meeting and interrogating all of these characters throughout the game is part of the fun.

Fans may know and love Pikachu as one of their favourite Pokémon, but in Detective Pikachu they should be prepared for something a little bit different from the familiar! With his trademark detective’s hat, his gruff but loveable demeanour and his dry sense of humour, Detective Pikachu is a distinctive new character with a personality all his own and a firm resolve to get to the bottom of the mysterious goings-on in Ryme City.

An out-of-the-ordinary character like this naturally deserves an amiibo that’s a little bit different from the norm too, and the Detective Pikachu amiibo figure that’s also launching on 23rd March is noticeable not just for its cute and colourful appearance but for the fact that it’s considerably larger than a regular amiibo This sizeable amiibo can unlock cutscenes if tapped in the Detective Pikachu game, revealing a load of hilarious content that might also provide some useful hints. This same content can be accessed in the game without the amiibo, but tapping the amiibo will allow players to unlock the content more quickly.

Huawei unveils first car to be driven by AI-Powered smartphone

Huawei, has become the first mobile device manufacturer in the world to use an AI-powered smartphone to drive a car. The ‘RoadReader’ project pushes the boundaries of Huawei’s object recognition technology and puts the learning capabilities, speed and performance of its AI-powered devices to the test.

Unlike other driverless cars, which simply detect obstacles Huawei has transformed a Porsche Panamera into a driverless vehicle that doesn’t just see, but crucially, understands its surroundings. This means that can it can distinguish between 1,000s of different objects including a cat and a dog, a ball or a bike and learn to take the most appropriate course of action.

Huawei’s ‘RoadReader’ project is taking advantage of the AI capabilities already in the Huawei Mate 10 Pro. The device uses AI to automatically recognise objects like cats, dogs, food, and other objects, to help people take pictures like a pro.

Most autonomous cars currently being developed rely on the computing power of purpose-built chips developed by third party technology providers. However, as part of its ongoing mission to make the impossible possible, Huawei has used technology already available in its smartphones, demonstrating its superior functionality and ability to stand up to even the most advanced technology developed for use in self-driving cars.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBGRRx-aSpU&feature=youtu.be

“Our smartphone is already outstanding at object recognition. We wanted to see if in a short space of time we could teach it to not only drive a car, but to use its AI capabilities to see certain objects, and be taught to avoid them” said Andrew Garrihy, Chief Marketing Officer, Huawei Western Europe. “If our technology is intelligent enough to achieve this in just 5 weeks – what else can it make possible?”
