Review: Brain Show

Brain Show proves that trivia games are still popular. However, this particular title focuses on local and Remote online play rather than a single-player experience. Consequently, this is a little frustrating if you wish to test your knowledge with no friends around. As such, this will reduce its appeal and that is a shame. However, before I prematurely conclude my review, let’s look at its many plus points.

Developed and published by Simplicity Games, this is a colourful trivia game. What’s more, it is reminiscent of Buzz!: Quiz TV. This was a game I adored and something that was a little unusual. Subsequently, I knew I’d enjoy my time with this even if it has some irksome qualities.

Choose the right answer from 4 options.
Would you know the answer?

Brain Show will test your grey matter.

Like the best game shows, Brain Show is all glitz and glam. Moreover, its eccentric host is charismatic, OTT, and just a bit sarcastic. Consequently, if you have a troublesome round, the snarky AI won’t let you forget it. On top of this, the interesting and varied rounds will pit you against your friends and will cause plenty of arguments. Yet, it is this competitive edge that makes it so moreish and tough to put down when enjoyed with the right group of friends.

The action takes place over 6 rounds and can be completed by up to 8 players. Furthermore, there are over 5000 questions and 41 categories to choose from. As each round begins, a different player can select the topic from 4 options. This was an excellent choice, as it ensured that most players had the opportunity to excel. You’ll select from a whole host of topics and there is something for everyone. At times, however, some of the questions are stupidly random and this caused confusion and plenty of guesswork. But this was amusing and made myself and my friends chuckle a fair bit.

Choose the category in Brain Show.
Can you pick the correct category?

It’s all about the points.

No matter the setup for each round, the aim was simple. Individually, you must collect the most points before the final round. Rounds 1-5 present a unique and random challenge. Yet, the conclusion is always the same, and this was unfortunate, but to be expected. Accordingly, en route to the finish, you’ll enjoy a few lighthearted tactical choices as you’ll gamble your points, volunteer to answer questions, choose another player to answer a harsh question or drop the dynamite on a friend.

Whatever happens, it is guaranteed to cause arguments and make you laugh. Additionally, the traditional AI host was fantastic. His witty comments, sharp attitude, and charismatic approach are reminiscent of every great American TV host. As such, you’ll chuckle at his backhanded compliments and the way he deals with failure.

Brain Show is wonderfully cliched.

Game shows are a cliched mess that you either love or hate. I enjoy testing my grey matter, but I don’t particularly like the glitz and glamour that comes with the territory. Consequently, I tend to enjoy them in very short bursts. Brain Show was no different! This casual trivia title is wonderfully cliched and perfectly representative of the genre. However, its vivid nature and “Hollywood” finish were uncomfortable for extended periods.

I feel exactly the same about the audio. I chuckled at the sneaky comments and the silly nature of the sound bites. However, it was a little repetitive and if you play it a lot, it soon becomes tiresome. As such Brain Show wasn’t expansive enough. Its cynical one-liners and snappy responses will get under your skin and you’ll want the host to shut his mouth sooner, rather than later.

The confetti falls when a winner is announced.
We have a winner!

A wide choice of inputs.

I applaud the developers for their excellent control setup. You are free to use a controller or your keyboard. What’s more, you can play locally and share one keyboard, or you can go online and use the Remote play option. The latter choice was fantastic as only the host is required to purchase the game. Consequently, this makes it a great investment if you have extended family that can’t meet up in person. My only complaint is that you cannot map the buttons for each player. Therefore, you are limited to the developer’s choices, and this may frustrate some players.

Replay value and longevity are subjective. As there is no single-player option, you are limited to when you can play Brain Show. Accordingly, this annoyed me, as I wanted to enjoy the game by myself and this wasn’t possible. Additionally, the in-your-face host and the repetitive sound bites reduce your patience and make this an ideal causal experience.

Brain Show ticks many boxes.

On the whole, Brain Show does many things right. Yet, I think the lack of single-player action and the sarcastic host are major negative points. What’s more, no button mapping is a huge letdown as it will frustrate many players. However, this is great fun with the right people and when played in small doses. As such, I enjoyed it and recommend you buy it here! Can you prove that you are more intelligent than your friends? Choose your avatar, select your category, and score the most points.

Diamond Casino and Resort: What, Where, Playable Games, and Tips

0

GTA Online managed to help elevate an incredibly successful game franchise to new heights when it was first released in 2013, but a decade on, it is still one of the most enjoyed versions.

Naturally, playing online was groundbreaking for millions of players worldwide, as they could engage in cooperative and multiplayer modes of up to 30 while on the network. It could be argued that its success was achieved through the introduction of some of its in-game features, including the downloadable content (DLC) that was made available.

Diamond Casino and Resort

The Diamond Casino and Resort update is arguably one of the biggest highlights of GTA Online. Available as a DLC, the update provided players with the opportunity to go to the Diamond Casino where they would then be able to participate in playing a number of classic games. Each of these games offered players a lifelike gambling experience, as they can bet on the various games offered and potentially increase the money their character has.

Where can I find the Diamond Casino and Resort?

Thankfully, finding the casino is not too difficult. The resort is located in the northeast of Vinewood Hills in Los Santos. It is on the corner of Vinewood Park Drive and Vinewood Boulevard.

If you take a trip to visit the establishment, you will encounter much more than a casino where you are able to play some of the biggest and most renowned games. Aside from the game floor, you will find the Master Penthouse, a hotel, a garage that is linked to the penthouse, and a garage that is for hotel users.

What games can be played at the Diamond Casino and Resort?

Those who visit the casino are able to take part in the following games:

  • Slots: These games are a staple at casinos, and it is unsurprising they can be played when visiting the location. Unfortunately, they are completely random, but this adds to the authentic experiences that the casino provides. They are just as immersive to play, though, so be sure to be wise with the money you have in-game.
  • Roulette: Players can take a chance on a casino classic when they test their luck at the roulette table. Another authentic roulette experience is possible, as players can choose where they predict the ball will land before watching the wheel spin.
  • Three-Card Poker: You can enjoy a game of three-card poker when you visit Diamond Casino. Here you can play a number of hands, although it is recommended to only bet high when you have a hand that consists of a queen-six-four or better.
  • Blackjack: Another casino staple, blackjack is also possible to enjoy. You could try to implement the same types of strategies that you may use when playing properly, or you could hope for the best.
  • Wheel of Fortune: Spin the wheel once a day and receive a prize. There is no wagering required for this game, thus making it a wonderful incentive to visit the casino.
  • Virtual Horse Racing: If you like sports wagering, then virtual horse racing might be the best type of game to play in the casino. You can wager on which horse you believe will win the virtual races that are being run.

How can you enhance your experience at the Diamond Casino and Resort?

While players will undoubtedly be having fun while playing this DLC within GTA Online, there are numerous methods in which the experience can be made more enjoyable. The casino provides a fun and entertaining element to the game, but it is wise to make sure you take the right approach.

As with all forms of gambling, it is important to consider certain strategies that help you to enhance the potential to win. There is no guarantee that wins will be achieved, but individuals can maximize its possibilities. It is recommendable to try and use real-life strategies available and incorporate them into the games played, given the authentic gameplay provided.

Additionally, it is wise for players to accept that they will not win every time they place a bet. If they realize this beforehand, it may also help with discipline and ensure that they manage their money effectively instead of blowing it on the games that are playable.

Are Flying Simulators the Ultimate VR Experience?

0

Virtual Reality (VR) has revolutionised the gaming industry by providing immersive and realistic experiences. From exploring fantastical worlds to engaging in intense combat scenarios, VR has transported players into a whole new dimension.

Among the various genres, flying simulators have emerged as a popular choice for VR enthusiasts. In this article, we will explore whether flying simulators truly offer the ultimate VR experience.

Source: Pixaby

The Immersive Power of Virtual Reality

VR technology has the unique ability to transport users into a digital world, creating a sense of presence and immersion like never before. With high-resolution displays, motion tracking, and realistic audio, VR headsets can make you feel like you’re actually inside the simulated environment.

Flying simulators take full advantage of this immersive power. Whether you’re piloting a fighter jet flying a commercial airliner or soaring through the skies in a virtual reality fantasy world, the sensation of being in the cockpit is incredibly realistic. The combination of a wide field of view, 3D depth perception, and the ability to look around freely creates a truly immersive flying experience that is hard to replicate in any other medium.

Realistic Flight Controls and Interactions

One of the key factors that make flying simulators the ultimate VR experience is the ability to interact with realistic flight controls. Many VR flying simulators offer joystick and throttle compatibility, allowing players to have hands-on control over their aircraft. Whether it’s gripping the virtual yoke of a small plane or manipulating the flight stick of a combat jet, the tactile feedback adds to the sense of realism and immersion.

Furthermore, VR allows for intuitive interactions with the cockpit and its instruments. You can reach out and flip switches, adjust dials, and read instrument panels with natural hand movements. This level of interactivity enhances the sense of being a real pilot, making the experience more authentic and engaging.

Sensory Stimulation: Sight, Sound, and Motion

Flying simulators in VR provide a multi-sensory experience that engages sight, sound, and even motion. The visual fidelity of VR headsets combined with realistic graphics and detailed environments creates breathtaking vistas and realistic representations of the sky and landscapes.

In addition to visuals, sound plays a crucial role in creating a convincing flying experience in games like aviator game – 10bet in South Africa is a secure platform on which it can be played. The realistic audio design in VR flying simulators captures the roar of the engines, the wind rushing past the aircraft, and the communication between pilots and air traffic controllers. These audio cues further enhance the immersion and make the virtual environment come alive.

Moreover, some advanced VR setups incorporate motion platforms or motion simulators. These platforms can simulate the sensation of acceleration, turbulence, and G-forces, adding another layer of realism to the flying experience. Feeling the rumble of the engines or the gentle sway of the aircraft can greatly enhance the sense of being in a real cockpit.

Variety of Flying Experiences

Flying simulators offer a wide range of experiences, catering to different interests and skill levels. Whether you prefer the calm and serenity of piloting a light aircraft, the adrenaline rush of aerial combat, or the challenge of navigating complex commercial airliners, there is a VR flying simulator to suit your preferences.

For aviation enthusiasts, realistic flight simulators like Microsoft Flight Simulator or X-Plane 11 provide accurate representations of aircraft physics, navigation systems, and flight procedures. These simulators offer the opportunity to learn and practise real-world aviation skills, making them a favourite among aspiring pilots.

On the other hand, combat-focused flying games like Ace Combat 7 or War Thunder deliver thrilling aerial dogfights and intense missions. These games prioritise action and excitement, placing you in the cockpit of powerful fighter jets and challenging you to outmanoeuvre and outgun your opponents.

Unleashing Creative Possibilities

In addition to realistic simulations, VR flying experiences can also tap into the realm of imagination and creativity. Some flying games and experiences embrace fantastical worlds and magical settings, allowing you to soar through mythical landscapes or explore dreamlike environments.

These experiences offer a unique blend of freedom and fantasy, providing a sense of awe and wonder as you navigate through imaginative skies.

To conclude; flying simulators in VR offer a level of immersion, realism, and interactivity that is unparalleled in other gaming experiences. The combination of realistic flight controls, sensory stimulation, and a variety of flying experiences make them a compelling choice for VR enthusiasts.

Whether you’re a passionate aviation enthusiast, an adrenaline-seeking combat pilot, or someone looking to explore virtual skies with a touch of magic, VR flying simulators have something to offer. So, fasten your seatbelt, put on your VR headset, and get ready for an unforgettable journey as you take flight in the virtual skies. The ultimate VR flying experience awaits!

Review: BuddyPhones PlayEars+

BuddyPhones PlayEars+ are the perfect audio accessory for your children. Furthermore, these excellent headphones look cute as a button thanks to the latest design feature. These adorable headphones come in a choice of 4 animal-themed-finishes. Consequently, you get fantastic features as well as an amusing and sweet aesthetic.

You can listen to music, podcasts, or games whilst dressed as the following: a polar bear, a cat, a dog, or a fox. Each design is robust, loveable, and loaded with reassuring features. Moreover, these wired or wireless headphones are designed with comfort and safety in mind. What’s more, we all know that children are clumsy. Therefore, the BuddyPhones PlayEars+ are durable and built to last.

What’s in the box of the BuddyPhones PlayEars+?

  • The cardboard packaging is hard-wearing and recyclable. Additionally, it is adorned with pleasant imagery and key selling points. Alongside this, your kids will be desperate to open the striking and colourful box.
  • The BuddyPhones PlayEars+ are unbelievably cute. The polar bear design is eye-catching and unique. Furthermore, the tactile buttons are well-placed and helpful LEDs and audio prompts make them user-friendly.
  • 3.5mm jack to 3.5mm jack cable. Use this for the BuddyLink feature.
  • A short rubberised USB-C charging cable.
  • Decorative stickers to personalise your headphones.
  • A travel bag to keep everything safe.
  • Get started with the in-depth user guide.

Technical aspects.

Picking out the right audio device for your children is easier said than done. Not only do you want them to be comfortable, but you want them to be safe for their developing ears. Accordingly, the BuddyPhones PlayEars+ ticks both of these boxes. Moreover, they have a ton of extra features that make them the ideal choice for your munchkins.

I’ll start with the fantastic battery life. A full charge will last around 24 hours. Now, this may not seem like a lot, but it is great for trips out, camping expeditions, and regular usage. Additionally, the headphones can be charged quickly, so you are rarely without juice.

Second, the connectivity settings are great. You can choose a wired option with the audio jack cable. Alternatively, you can use Bluetooth and enjoy a 20-metre range. What’s more, this connection is stable, and it allows you to take advantage of the Buddylink feature.

The Buddylink feature impressed me. If you own 2 pairs of these incredible headphones, you can connect 1 via Bluetooth and the other using a wired connection. From here, you’ll be able to share the audio from one source. Therefore, 2 kids can enjoy a film or activity on 1 tablet.

Safety features.

I despise unnecessarily loud audio. Moreover, high-frequency sound is the cause of unnecessary hearing loss. As such, it is imperative that any child-friendly device has an array of safety features. Thankfully, the BuddyPhones PlayEars+ has 3 preset audio levels. By holding down the volume buttons, you can select Toddler Mode, Kids Mode, or Travel Mode. Each option delivers a maximum volume of 75 dB, 85 dB, or 94 dB. This is phenomenal, as these are comfortable levels that are designed to prevent hearing loss.

To help understand which setting you have chosen, the manufacturer has incorporated an LED system. Orange, Green, and Red lights are paired with single, paired, and a trio of lights. Accordingly, this makes it easy to identify what mode you have chosen and no mistakes can be made.

Other features.

These headphones have the ability to activate a StudyMode. By flicking a switch, your children will enjoy enhanced vocals. This may seem like a pointless tool, but it wasn’t! Instead, this allows the user to enjoy crisp and clear instructions without turning the volume up. Moreover, it reduces any distracting background noises without undermining a lesson or podcast.

Another interesting feature was the built-in microphone. If your kids are old enough to own a mobile phone, they can use these for hands-free calls. Therefore, they are surprisingly versatile. However, the microphone was somewhat tinny and I wouldn’t rely on them to have the best hands-free experience.

Build quality.

I’ve mentioned the cute nature of these headphones. However, I want to discuss the durability. I was shocked by how great the build quality was. The chunky headband and soft cushioned earcups ensure maximum comfort. Alongside this, the robust design allows you to adjust the size to your liking.

Alongside this, the tactile buttons are easy to locate and switching it on and off and into pairing mode was a cinch. Furthermore, the audio commands help to identify what the battery level is and if it has been switched on or off. Additionally, the ears feel smooth and tough. Unlike other quirky accessories, I have no concerns over durability.

Are the BuddyPhones PlayEars+ worth it?

As a parent, the BuddyPhones PlayEars+ thoroughly impressed me. Not only do they look great, but they are built to last and they have fantastic features. What’s more, I was reassured by the excellent safety elements and the usability. However, my opinion is shadowed by that of the end user!

My kids all want to have these headphones. Yet, my youngest shouted loudest and she is now the proud owner of a set of panda-inspired headphones. Consequently, every time she uses them, she beams with pride. Additionally, she looks super cute. On top of this, I know her hearing is protected thanks to each of the SafeAudio settings. As such, these are an incredible audio accessory that is a must-have for your children. Subsequently, I can easily recommend that you buy them here!

The BuddyPhones PlayEars+ have been awarded the Movies Games and Tech Gold Award.

Review: Homebody

Homebody proves that friendship can be a tough relationship to manage. What’s more, it tastefully tackles the effects of anxiety and intertwines these issues with a touching and petrifying story. Alongside this, it focuses on old-school influences while delivering a polished but oppressive finish. Accordingly, fans of Silent Hill or 80s slasher movies will adore this step-down memory lane.

Developed by Game Grumps and published by Rogue Games Inc., this is a horror title. Moreover, it has some stealth mechanics and masses of puzzles that must be solved. Additionally, there is a cruel gameplay loop, a host of colourful characters, and litres of blood and masses of gore to enjoy. As such, this isn’t a game for the faint of heart.

Homebody will resonate with many people.

The sense of anxiety and its controlling nature can be debilitating. Accordingly, many people will resonate with Homebody’s cruel and tense plot. However, it is its uncomfortable gameplay loop that makes this horror title stand out from its peers. Think of Groundhog Day and then include a nameless killer and the death of your closest friends. This is Homebody in a nutshell!

You are Emily, a timid and anxious woman that suffers from agoraphobia. This condition forms the backbone of her mental state and this forces a wedge between herself and her friends. The action takes place in a rented house in the middle of nowhere. The group of college friends are gathering for an annual get-together to enjoy a meteor shower. However, anxiety and social awkwardness are the least of their concerns. Why? Well, this remote location hides a dark secret that will haunt the group. A mysterious murderer is on the loose, and only Emily can stop them. Yet, if she is killed, she must relive the evening again.

The group relax before the power cuts off.
Enjoy the fun before the killing begins.

Puzzles and a sense of foreboding.

Homebody does an excellent job of creating a sense of foreboding. This cruel title lets you freely explore the dank and dangerous house. Furthermore, you are free to talk to any of your friends as long as the murderer hasn’t got to them first, that is. At first, everything is fine. You can talk to whomever you please, and there isn’t a sense of pressure or fear. Yet, once the power goes out, the atmosphere changes.

As you explore each creepy room, you’ll stumble across clues, puzzles, and hiding places. Each of these elements is key to progressing the action and, more importantly, you must hide to stay alive. The nameless killer is an intelligent beast that reacts to your movements. Accordingly, unlike other games and their poor AI, this brute is no pushover. Therefore, unless you escape their gaze, you have no chance of surviving.

This horrific sense of pressure creates an ominous atmosphere that is uncomfortable throughout. Moreover, there is no telling who the killer will target or when they will appear. Therefore, you can be talking to a friend, solving a puzzle, or exploring a new location, and all hell breaks loose. It was this randomness that worked brilliantly with the tense atmosphere. Consequently, you are kept on edge throughout, and playing is horrifically uncomfortable.

The antagonist is chasing you with a knife.
I suggest you run away!

Challenging problems.

Homebody does a great job of balancing its difficulty. If you are a puzzle aficionado, you’ll enjoy the blend of simple and tough problems. However, if you are new to the genre, there is a wonderful hint system that keeps things ticking over. On top of this, your journal pieces together the clues to help you keep on top of each puzzle.

Alongside the excellent balanced approach, there is a fantastic mixture of problems to solve. Whether it was minesweeper, word problems, or mathematical challenges, they were interesting and well-conceived.

Homebody is understated and creepy to look at.

The understated but polished finish is wonderfully reminiscent of 90s gaming. What’s more, the slow movement of the killer and its horrific costume would work in an 80s slasher movie. Though this dated finish won’t appease everyone, I loved the blocky imagery and the grainy textures. What’s more, the grim colour palette adds to the ominous nature of the game. My only complaint is the fixed camera angle. Whenever you move through tight spaces or into new locations, the camera doesn’t quite work. Therefore, you’ll run into walls and waste valuable seconds.

The audio, on the other hand, was flawless. I loved the creepy and sinister soundtrack and the blend of silence and sound. Furthermore, the sound effects send shivers down your spine. I despised the noises that the killer made! The creepy asshat was cliched, but unbelievably horrible to listen to. Moreover, the classic jump scares caused by this brutal menace were terrifying.

Question your friends to find the clues.
Can you get the clues and escape?

Clunky controls.

When time is of the essence, you don’t want clunky controls. Sadly, this is exactly what you get with this title. As such, picking up items or selecting important goods was challenging. What’s more, when the killer is chasing you and you end up running into a wall, it is unfairly infuriating. Accordingly, this has to be the weakest element and one that could have easily been overcome.

A déjà vu gameplay loop enhances replay value and longevity. Moreover, each time you die, you are forced to redo the puzzles again. Now, this would be tedious had the developers not incorporated a shortcut system. With this in place, you can push past some tedious elements and keep the action flowing.

Homebody is a great homage to the horror genre.

Though I didn’t like the controls, I loved every other aspect of this haunting title. Homebody does a great job of pacing the action whilst dealing with the protagonist’s debilitating anxiety. Moreover, the excellent dialogue choices and amazing hint system keep things moving nicely. On top of this, the blend of puzzles and creepy atmosphere complete the package. Subsequently, I loved this homage to the horror genre and I recommend that you buy it here! Can you escape the killer and save the day? Solve the puzzles, explore the house, and get everyone out alive.

Review: Spirit Hunters: Infinite Horde

Can you call someone a hero if they don’t actually defeat any villains themselves? Imagine, for example, a pajama-clad hero wandering into a dungeon. They’re thumbing through a copy of Moby Dick with one hand and tucking into a pain au chocolat with the other. They take a bite of the flaky pastry and turn the page, and then everything around them bursts into flames. No effort was expended on their part. You might as well give the pastry the medal.

I bring up this facetious imagination exercise because it encapsulates my biggest issue with Spirit Hunters: Infinite Horde. There are a lot of tremendously exciting things going on but my involvement in any of them is extremely limited. As a result, it was hard for me to stay interested, despite some good polish in key areas. Then again, I suppose it doesn’t matter how sweet the toffee is if it’s covering a rotten apple.

Spirit Hunters: Infinite Horde - Maxine with spinning fireballs in the middle of a horde of reapers

Great Balls Of Fire

Spirit Hunters: Infinite Horde doesn’t bother with plot or context. There are too many hordes to destroy for things like that. Instead it opens up with a choice of character. At first, you have a choice of just two: the grumpy looking mage Magnus and the equally grumpy looking sorceress, Vivian. Each character has a different focus, which alters your starting powers and gives their own unique boost. There’s quite a few of them too, which is good. Magnus, for example, is built around regaining HP, either by levelling up skills or by tearing it straight out of enemies.

Along with a hero, you’ll need to choose a starting skill. From the small selection I was presented with, I chose the fireball. An old mage favourite, after all. I was then plonked into a desert with a baseball sized fireball circling me. Therein lies the central mechanic. All attacks are automatic, all you need to do is line yourself up with the enemy and your attacks will do the rest. It’s a modification on what’s being termed ‘Bullet Heaven’, where the bullets that fill the screen are yours, rather than the enemy’s.

The bare truth is that I don’t like this system very much. The thing that I kept thinking of while playing was the brief time I played Counter Strike: Source and came up against people using aimbot. All they did was look at other players and they’d die. Not much difference here. There’s just a lack of actual, meaningful input that bothered me. I’d see bosses explode in a cacophony of spikes and flame, and feel nothing. I was just over here picking my nose. I didn’t even have the minor satisfaction of pressing a button to make it happen.

Spirit Hunters: Infinite Horde - a picture of the progression web with the oracle on the left hand side.

Automated Hero

That said, if this is the type of thing to grip you then Spirit Hunters: Infinite Horde will have its claws in you for some time. For one thing, the progression web – called the ‘Divinity Web’ – is immense. It will take quite a few runs to unlock it all. As you progress you unlock new skills, mods, characters, and locations. It’s the good kind of progression too, that generally changes up each run. It can become a bit of a grind, though, as some of the later nodes need a good chunk of resources. That’s mainly an incentive to dip toes into the higher difficulties though.

Speaking of difficulty, allow me to dip back down into grumble territory. When I play a game like this, with the emphasis on repeated runs, I never expect to beat the first run. It’s a pretty standard death so you can be introduced to the progression. Odd, then, that I beat my first run without incident. Then I beat the next run and the run after that. Of the eighteen runs I’ve done so far, I’ve won fourteen of them. That seems a little backwards to me. A smidge too easy, which means a smidge too repetitive. I think it comes back to the lack of player interaction again. When all you have to focus on is dodging, it becomes hard to be overwhelmed. The higher difficulties fare a bit better, but ultimately slide down into the same tedium.

It’s a hard judgement because there’s been a lot of polish in key areas. It looks rather nice, for one, with clean graphics that remind me of old Flash games. It even has an alright soundtrack. There’s a lot of variety here too. All the heroes look distinct and there’s an impressive range of different skills. I enjoyed Shakpana and his penchant for poisoning everything, especially when paired with the ability that caused spikes to erupt from the ground. There’s decent enemy variety too, and I like how it changes based on map and difficulty. But everything orbits around an unsatisfying core. Every time I saw a new enemy, I knew it would just slowly move towards me and little else. Then a spike would pop up and job done.

Spirit Hunters: Infinite Horde - Maxine firing a large laser at approaching enemies.

Infinite Bores

Let me throw Spirit Hunters: Infinite Horde a bone here. This genre has been long established before I came in here like a negative nancy. It’s possible I just don’t like the genre. Any game that seeks to take things away from the player, like actually attacking the enemy, and then doesn’t replace it with anything (such as turrets for instance) is one that I’m not going to have a good time with. It’s not menial enough that I can switch my conscious brain to a video and let my lizard brain take over and it’s not engaging enough that it keeps me solely focused on it.

Still, if this is your cup of tea then you’ll find some fun in Spirit Hunters: Infinite Horde. It polishes the right elements to keep it solely focused on the central component. The graphics are okay, the soundtrack has some good notes and there’s mountain of progression to keep you chiseling away. Unfortunately, from where I’m standing it’s all set-dressing around a hollow core. Your mileage may vary but, personally, if I’m faced with an infinite horde then I’d prefer to hunt it myself. I’ll eat the pain au chocolat beforehand.

Review: Tour de France 2023

Tour de France 2023 returns to console and PC with a flurry of minor gameplay improvements. However, in truth, it adds little to the franchise. Yet, this won’t discourage hardcore fans and I enjoyed my time in the virtual saddle. Last year I was lucky enough to review Tour de France 2022. Therefore, I leapt at the chance to give this a go.

Developed by Cyanide and published by Nacon, this is an ultra-realistic sports simulation title. Like its peers, this focuses on career options while maintaining a realistic approach. Consequently, it is no walk or ride in the park. Furthermore, players will have to invest hours to improve their rider or team and win every accolade going.

Tour de France 2023 has plenty of gameplay options.

Like its predecessor, Tour de France 2023 has plenty of gameplay options. You can enjoy a standalone race to test each riding style. Alternatively, you can tackle career modes as a team or as a solo rider. On top of this, there is a competitive online mode called Race of the Moment. Whichever mode you pick, the core mechanics remain the same and you must invest a hefty amount of time.

This year, the action focuses on the rider’s key abilities as well as some improved rider behaviours. Alongside this, there is the inclusion of the Grupetto to enhance realism and add more tactical choices. However, fans of last year’s title will notice some familiar mechanics. The usual energy gels, wind resistance, and team tactics all remain. Accordingly, you can jump straight into the action with no problems.

Change the perspective to get an immersive experience.
Ride from a 1st-person perspective.

So, what’s new?

Cyanide has done a great job of updating the team and rider roster. Alongside this, they have incorporated 2 new race jerseys to show off your approach. Subsequently, you’ll recognise the normal polka dot and leader attire. However, now there is something for the best team and those that are super combative. These are minor additions, but they make each race easier to follow.

The major improvements focus on rider attributes, handling, and AI. These clear changes push Tour de France 2023 out of its predecessor’s shadow. Furthermore, they make this new iteration much more in-depth. As a consequence, you’ll savour the tactical battles and the pleasure of winning each segment.

Depending on your team/rider attributes, you’ll aim for the stage win, mountain climbs, or intermediate sprints. Each of these elements awards the rider and team a unique number of points. Once the tour is finished and the points are tallied, you’ll see the standings and reap the benefits of your work. This slow but interesting setup made the action incredibly exciting, especially when you battle with the ultra-aggressive AI. Subsequently, the developers have done a great job of adding suspense to an otherwise simple idea.

Use those around you as a wind block.
Tuck in behind and protect yourself from the wind.

Tour de France 2023 isn’t the prettiest game.

Tour de France 2023’s gameplay is ultra-realistic, mostly. However, visually it’s a bit of a dog’s dinner. The poor textures and weirdly scaled bikes leave a lot to be desired. Alongside this, the character models are repetitive and plain and the animation is dated. Consequently, during each low point of a race, you highlight the shortcomings and graphical errors.

Some of the downfalls are obvious! You’ll clip bushes and nothing will happen, colliding with fellow riders has little to no impact, and I rode through several supporters. It was a shame as the developers have done a great job with the rest of the game.

Disappointingly, the audio is flawed as well. Though the sound effects are sufficient and the wind noise is excellent, the crowd are repetitive and dull. For unknown reasons, the crowd shouts the same few words repetitively. On top of this, there is no dialogue between the riders and 100s of km can pass without a sound. This was odd, as it vastly reduced the realism.

The riders tackle a tricky cobbled section.
Don’t slip on the cobbles.

Hold the “follow” button.

Tour de France 2023 could have been a nightmare to play. However, a thorough and quick tutorial sets you on your way. Additionally, the controller layout is remarkably simple and picking up the basics was easy. Yet, I couldn’t get over the go-to tactic of “follow”. Effectively, you can ride behind everyone else and do nothing if you hold the X button. This stupidly simple tactic undermines the complexities of the game. Yes, there are times when it doesn’t work, but these moments are few and far between. Consequently, you spend much of your time doing very little and this was disappointing.

If you love cycling and the sports genre, then this will hold your attention. Thankfully, there are plenty of game modes and riding styles to try. Moreover, there is online action if that floats your boat. However, if you like to go it alone, the offline gameplay is fantastic. Yes, the controls were dumbed down and this frustrated me. Yet, the tactical choices and team orders mitigate against this shortcoming.

Tour de France 2023 is a worthy successor.

Tour de France 2023 won’t be for everyone. As such, it’ll appeal to a niche audience, and that’s fine. But if you do love cycling and you fancy becoming the leader of your team, then you can’t go wrong with this game. Though its improvements are minor, they do enough to make it stand out from its predecessor. Consequently, it’s a worthy successor and I recommend that you buy it here! Become a cycling champion and never break a sweat. Put on your virtual lycra, pick a team, and dominate the mountains.

Review: Brave Soldier – Invasion of Cyborgs

Brave Soldier – Invasion of Cyborgs is a retro title with a simple concept. As such, this easy-to-pickup game is great for casual players. Moreover, the drip-fed mechanics and vivid colour palette will keep you interested throughout the 30 stages.

Developed by JM Neto Game DevRatalaika Games, and Eastasiasoft Limited and published by the latter, this is a run-and-gun title. What’s more, there are some basic platform elements and some shooting mechanics. Additionally, there are traps, chasms, and spikes to avoid as you traverse each linear stage.

Brave Soldier - Invasion of Cyborgs demands that you hang off of ropes and shoot your foes.
Hang tough and destroy those turrets.

Brave Soldier – Invasion of Cyborgs reminded me of Rambo!

Like Rambo, Brave Soldier – Invasion of Cyborgs focuses on one burly hero. This muscle-bound maniac has no fear and he’ll stop at nothing to bring justice to the world. Armed with a basic weapon, he must destroy everything in his path as he goes about his deadly mission.

This 2D side-scroller asks you to take on the role of a courageous commando. He must traverse jungles, icy tundra, clifftops and more as he tracks down a mechanical menace. This overbearing AI has turned on its master and now threatens to wipe out mankind!

Brilliantly simple.

Brave Soldier – Invasion of Cyborgs was exceptionally easy to play. Like the best arcade titles from the 80s, this was mindless fun from the off. The aim of the game is straightforward. Shoot each cyborg, oil barrel, or turret as you explore each level. En route, you’ll activate checkpoints, overcome an array of obstacles, and make it to the end. If you die, you’ll respawn at the nearest checkpoint and away you go.

This is the gameplay in a nutshell. However, thankfully, there is more depth than first meets the eye. The drip-fed mechanics add more obstacles and tough enemies to overcome. Moreover, the levels become more complex and navigating chasms, ropes, and traps becomes increasingly difficult. Yet, there is an array of weapons to pick up that’ll help your cause. Disappointingly, though, if you are shot, you lose your new weapon and you are left with your basic rifle.

A cyborg Yeti stands on a platform shooting projectiles.
Damn you Yeti!

Big bosses.

No arcade experience would be complete without a big boss to overcome. Luckily, Brave Soldier – Invasion of Cyborgs has plenty of enormous overlords to defeat. These overbearing monstrosities are tough to defeat and will test your patience and your eye for detail.

Each one follows a set routine that can be studied and manipulated to your advantage. Consequently, once you understand their pattern of attack, you’ll take each one down with ease. Once you’ve overcome each cyborg menace, the action moves to a new location. This was great, as there was a distinct cut-off between each location. Furthermore, it progressed the story nicely and kept it from becoming tiresome.

Brave Soldier – Invasion of Cyborgs is beautifully pixelated.

I adore retro indie games. There is something about the garish colours and modern polish that makes them fantastic. Brave Soldier – Invasion of Cyborgs looks beautiful with its clean finish and pixel graphics. Furthermore, the varied backdrops, excellent animation, and simple sprites were incredible to look at.

The dated aesthetic continues with the basic audio. The loud and often obnoxious music works perfectly with the theme and genre. Additionally, the uncomfortable sound effects are wonderfully horrible. Subsequently, the visuals and audio reminded me of early 90s gaming.

A cyborg skull tries to kill you with all its might.
Ohhhh such a scary skull.

Jump, jump, shoot, and jump.

I adore the simple controls and easy-to-follow concept. Consequently, you are instantly comfortable with the task at hand and there are no curveballs to put you off. Thankfully, the responsive inputs and excellent controller layout help to keep you on track as well.

Where this falls short is its replay value and longevity. Unfortunately, 30 levels are not enough to keep you satisfied. Moreover, there is no reason to return, as the action rarely changes. Luckily, though, the first playthrough is good, and this makes it great value for money.

Brave Soldier – Invasion of Cyborgs is short but sweet.

The short playtime left me wanting. However, I enjoyed every level and each of the bosses. Furthermore, the random nature of the weapon drops and the interesting stage design kept me interested throughout. As such, I liked what I saw and I recommend that you buy it here! Can you save mankind from the cyborgs? Grab your gun, destroy your foes, and avoid every deadly obstacle.

Review: My Summer Adventure, Memories of another life

My summer adventure, memories of another life is a visual novel that tells the story of a man transported into a different body after experiencing a rough patch due to a breakup with his ex. As a visual novel, the game plays out like a story book with players following along, occasionally making decisions that will impact the rest of the story. Unfortunately, this leans heavily into hoping that you have a dire love for both visual novels and the Isekai genre of anime. As someone who isn’t too deep into either of these categories, the story here was a miss for me and failed to grab my attention.

The game starts with Maksim Laas telling us the story of how his relationship ended before we are introduced to a woman named Kyoko. After coming home from a long day of work, we are given a brief explanation of who she is as well as her relationship with Maksim. She finds a note book he had been filling out and this is where the story really gets going.

With an interesting story hook, My summer Adventure, Memories of Another Life  has potential to be a wonderful visual novel but unfortunately it fails to grasp your attention right away. I was shifted from Maksims perspective to Kyoko’s and then back to Maksim and while this isn’t too unusual for video games, it was hard to build any kind of initial connection to either characters. We are introduced to the two of them during a fight in which Maksim remarks about how he wishes he didn’t marry Kyoko and this was a real rough first step for our main character. He comes off as whiny and passes the blame off to Kyoko right away and while a flawed character is fun to play as, I believe we should have spent more time with the two leading up to the fight in order to build a more solid foundation for the story.

When Kyoko is reading through the notebook left behind, we are given the story about how Marksim ended up in this situation and the time that they have spent together. One day, Maksim wakes up on a train in a different body and the first thing he does is remarks on the new body he has been moved to, saying things such as having sausage fingers and the fact that his gut is too large to be hidden. When a young Kyoko checks in on him, he makes remarks about her touching his arm and how he should have a black belt in arm touching since he has touched a multitude of people and animals appendages. The writing for the character does not do a good job of painting him in a positive light and I was checked out within the first 30-45 minutes of the game due to his character.

While the story is a major part of a visual novel, it is important that the game also have visuals that capture the players attention. This is another area in which things fall apart for this game. The visuals are very bland and basic with nothing really standing out. The first few moments of the game really has the screen showing some scenery with a text box bombarding you with information. When Kyoko reads the notebook, the screen shows text popping up over a blank background. I found myself missing screenshots of certain text due to the fact there is no indicator for when the text is over with and will move on to the next string of text. While a right click will allow you to pull up a history of things that have been said, it is disheartening to know that one misclick can cause you to have to pull yourself away from the story to go reread something.

I wish that there was more that could be said about this game but as a visual novel, it is hard to describe much in regards to the gameplay. While other visual novels rely on distinct character designs and wonderful writing to carry you through the experience, these are nowhere to be found here and makes this a painful journey. Having decisions impact the story is always a welcome feature for titles in this genre but those choices can lose their impactfulness when the player is uninterested in the things going on around them.

The supernatural event that kicks off the story is an interesting one but is also a trope that has been done a multitude of times. Although we can see that Maksim has to make a tough decision between two different girls with two different personalities, I did not find any reason to be invested in his story whatsoever and by the time things started ramping up, I was ready for it to be over.

I had such high hopes for this game going into it since the story concept is decent enough to warrant a playthrough but the characters seem flat and by the time you see any development or reason to be interested in, there is a chance you will be in the same boat as myself. It misses its first step and spends the rest of the time trying to bring you along for a journey that may have lost you right away.

GaN devices have changed the way we charge our devices. Thanks to the power output rating, you can enjoy the rapid charging facilities. Additionally, you are able to connect 2 devices simultaneously. Review: Mojawa Run Plus BC Headphones

Mojawa Run Plus BC Headphones are the perfect accessory for the keen athlete. These incredible bone-conducting headphones are comfortable, rugged, and certified IP68 for a fully waterproof experience. Consequently, if you love to run, cycle, walk, or swim, these are the headphones that you’ll want to buy.

Shokz is the market-leading brand in this category. I should know, I own a pair. However, the Mojawa Run Plus BC Headphones give them a good run for their money (pun intended). The waterproof certification and the minor design differences make this a prime choice for many keen sportspeople. Furthermore, the excellent build quality, amazing battery life, and built-in storage make these headphones stand out.

What’s in the box of the Mojawa Run Plus BC Headphones?

  • The compact but sturdy box is eye-catching. With suitable imagery and key selling points, it has a professional finish. Moreover, it is fully recyclable and the contents are well-packaged.
  • The Mojawa Run Plus BC Headphones have a grey and black finish and a rubberised texture. Unlike its peers, these headphones have no obvious buttons. Instead, the power button is integrated into the left ear module and there is a touchpad for volume control.
  • A magnetic charging cable is provided for the unique charging point. The rubberised finish is hard-wearing and rugged.
  • A pair of silicone earplugs can be used in unusually loud environments.
  • The simple but fashionable carry bag will keep your headphones safe.
  • Learn the basics with the user guide.

Technical aspects.

The Mojawa Run Plus BC Headphones are a phenomenal choice if you want a music device or a hands-free tool. Thanks to the noise-cancelling technology, you can make calls and reduce environmental noises by up to 40 dB. This was incredible, as you can enjoy crystal-clear phone calls while walking, running, or whenever you are in the gym. Moreover, you can use your voice assistant on your phone to skip songs, search for TV programs, or call your friends.

Though hands-free calling wasn’t my priority, I loved the clean audio and the pinpoint sound. Other earbuds are tinny and have an uncomfortable echo. Alternatively, the other person can’t hear you clearly and it is a painful experience. Thankfully, these headphones are different. No matter if I called using my phone, Skype, Zoom, or WhatsApp, the result was the same every time.

Precise audio.

I wanted these headphones because they promised amazingly precise audio. Luckily, they delivered this and much, much more. Thanks to their patented technology, you enjoy a hearty range of tones and a meaty bass line. What’s more, every song is crisp and sounds like it is straight from the recording studio.

It mattered not which sport I tried. The headphones never let me down. Whether I was swimming laps, running on trails, or enjoying a speedy descent on my bike, the audio was perfect. Alongside this, I felt 100% safe, as I could hear my surroundings as well. This is the beauty of bone-conducting technology. Thankfully, you don’t have to compromise your safety while enjoying your favourite tunes. By slipping the headset over your ears, you can hear every note of every song as well as the roar of each car or the sound of nature.

Don’t be tethered to your phone.

Having a mobile phone can be essential. However, there are times when it weighs you down. Therefore, leaving it at home can be refreshing and necessary. Yet, if you do this, how are you going to listen to your music? Well, the Mojawa Run Plus BC Headphones have this issue covered. Thanks to the amazing 32 GB of internal storage, you no longer need to exercise with your phone.

32 GB of storage may not sound like a lot, but mp3 files are tiny! Therefore, you can hold up to 8000 different tracks. This was particularly impressive whenever I swam. I simply activated the mp3 mode, tapped the multi-function button, and away I went. Moreover, if I didn’t like a song, I skipped it using the same multi-function switch.

Build quality and usability.

Like the audio, the build quality was mind-blowing. The rubberised finish makes the device easy to clean and simple to look after. On top of this, the flexible titanium alloy frame ensures a snug fit and durable finish. Accordingly, you are reassured that these are built to last and will take some rough and tumble along the way.

The excellent touchpad and multi-function button are simple to master and easy to understand. By following the user guide, you’ll get to grips with increasing and decreasing the volume, pausing, skipping, and rewinding tracks, and using your voice assistant. Additionally, swapping from Bluetooth to mp3 mode is straightforward. Thankfully, there is a clear and concise audio prompt that tells you about your battery level and which mode you have selected.

Finally, I want to discuss battery life. These headphones destroy its leading rivals. Thanks to the 150 mAh battery, you can enjoy 8 hours at a 75% volume level. Moreover, if you are running low on power, a 5-minute charge will keep you going for 1.5 hours of music. Alternatively, an hour’s charge will fill the battery and away you go. These stats were surprising as the Mojawa Run Plus BC Headphones dwarfed other leading BC headphones.

Are the Mojawa Run Plus BC Headphones worth it?

There are plenty of good BC headphones on the market. However, when you are investing your money, you want more than “good”. Consequently, if you want something that performs consistently whilst giving you amazing audio and a versatile approach, then look no further. On top of this, you can enjoy untethered action with incredible internal storage. As such, if you want to up your exercise game, whilst maintaining precise and rich audio, then I recommend that you buy these here!

How to Start a Film Production Company

0

Source: Pixabay

Behind every great movie is a film production company that helped bring it to life. Film production companies develop, produce, and distribute movies. This can involve finding (or writing) scripts, securing financing, hiring cast and crew, choosing locations, filming, and post-production. After this, production companies partner with distributors or streaming platforms to release the movie, and plan marketing campaigns.

Essentially, film production companies manage and oversee every stage of making, releasing, and profiting from a movie. In this guide, we’ll explore how to start your own film production company.

Choose a Name and Register Your Company

Choosing a name for your film production company is important. Many companies, like Warner Bros and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, are simply named after their founders, but have since become iconic. Paramount Pictures was named after an apartment building that founder William Wadsworth Hodkinson walked past every day. In the 1980s, Martin Scorsese named his production company “Cappa Productions” after his mother’s maiden name. If you’re struggling to think of a name, there are also plenty of name generators available online to aid you in your search for the perfect, catchy name. Sites like businessnamegenerator.com could come in handy with this endeavour.

Once your name is chosen, you need to form a legal entity. Examples of these include sole proprietorships, partnerships, limited liability companies (LLCs), or corporations. If in doubt, consult with an attorney or business professional to understand the legal requirements and implications of each. You then need to register your company name — check your local regulations and any licenses that may be needed in your jurisdiction.

Find a Script and Secure Financing

Source: Pixabay

Money is essential to fund every aspect of bringing a movie to the big screen. Determine how you will finance your film projects and cover your company’s operational costs. Explore various funding options, such as personal savings, investments, loans, grants, crowdfunding, or partnerships with investors or production companies.

It’s best to start small for your first movie with an inexpensive script. For example, Quentin Tarantino’s directorial debut Reservoir Dogs had a budget of just over 1 million dollars. This was deliberate, as the script features only a handful of characters and much of the action takes place in a single room. To contrast, Tarantino’s latest feature, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, had a budget of over 90 million, as reported by openculture.com — this is typically only achievable after you have had numerous successful and lucrative projects under your belt! You could even consider starting with short films before moving onto feature-length ones.

Distribution and Marketing

You’ll need to find the right people to help you get your movie into theaters, and get the public to pay to see it. It’s essential to network at film festivals, events, and conferences to connect with partners, investors, distributors, and talent. To generate buzz, you can create a marketing plan using online advertising, social media, PR, and partnerships.

Build a Team and Acquire Resources

To get films made, you need producers, directors, writers, and crew members who share your vision. While small, independent films may not require huge crews, most films require hundreds of people — just think how many names are on the average credits. As per studiobinder.com, there are many roles needed on a movie set, so do some research. Perhaps the most important ingredient in the mix is a director, who will manage and oversee the actual production of the film. Equipment (cameras, lighting, costumes, etc) is also vital, and you’ll need to invest in a functioning film set before shooting can start.

Remember — it’s best to have distribution and marketing organized before the movie is finished. That way, you can be ready to go as soon as post-production is over. In addition to understanding the practical steps of producing a film, it’s essential to have a passion for cinema. It’s a competitive, high-risk industry, and only the most dedicated will succeed.

Review: Golfie

0

What if Minigolf had roguelike power ups? That is surely a question not many would think requires an answer however Triheart Studios’ latest game “Golfie” aims to answer that very question.

While it is still in its early form, Golfie already has all the makings of a uniquely fun experience.

Gameplay

So obviously the gameplay resembles any old minigolf game with some wacky tracks, a few windmills here and there, and a hole you’re trying to get into at the end. There is however a twist, before each putt you draw some cards that can enhance the motion of your ball or even allow you to place objects on the track that help you in your next putt. These cards include simple augmentations like power ups, curve shots, lob shots all the way to more complex enhancements like a jetpack and a ramp you can launch your ball off of.

The main objective of the game is to complete courses while progressing through a roguelike map as you make your way to a 3 phase boss fight at the end which also requires you to use your golf ball to push some buttons and defeat a boss. I’m sure more varieties of bosses and maps will be added as the game is developed further however what is present already accounts for a pretty fun contained experience.

As you progress through the game you can also unlock more power up cards, gain some currency and unlock cosmetics for your ball. With each power up card adding to the different ways you can play through the game combining a wide array of abilities and looks.

Graphics and Sound

The game leans heavily into a stylized low poly aesthetic which makes it pretty easy on the eyes and also fairly easy to distinguish different assets during gameplay. The sound track is still very much a work in progress however the songs currently within the game to provide a nice atmosphere to get you along with multiple songs playing based on the aesthetics of different levels the sound and art direction though simple, does well to keep you engaged.

Overall Impressions and Score

I quite enjoyed my time with Golfie. The game in its current state did feel a bit short however that is to be expected as more updates continue to keep the game alive. I do hope the developers do not abandon this game as it currently has all the standings of a good casual fun experience going forward. I however cannot rate the game on where I think its going to go I can only judge what is currently available and what is currently available is a nicely put together contained experience with a nice $9 price tag you can definitely get your money’s worth of fun from this title.

I give Golfie a rating of 6.5 / 10 – with a few more updates I could very much see this number climbing.
