Canonical has officially unveiled its design for an Ubuntu Phone operating system.
When you turn on the Ubuntu phone you’ll see something strikingly different. You’ll see a beautiful reflection of yourself, a visualization of your life, crafted by artist, ever changing, totally personal, and completely unique, just like you. As you use the phone the image will evolve. It’s like your signature and it’s stunning. It’s not a lock screen, it’s not a barrier, it’s a welcome screen. We don’t need a lock screen because Ubuntu is the first phone that uses every edge of the screen to take you directly to what you need.
Check out the video demonstration of the new mobile phone OS below… It starts around the 6:30 mark. Ubuntu for phones will be showcased at CES on 8-11th January 2013.

The Ubuntu operating system on the phone is a beautyful idea I can’t wait to see what else we will see in the future.
Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 has finally got a release date instead of just Q1 2013.
Sniper :Ghost Warrior 2 is the only multi-platform FPS modern shooter exclusively designed around the sniper experience and built using the most advanced game engine in CryENGINE3. It takes all the breathless anticipation, precise controls and skilful fun of sniping and mixes it with stealth and silent elimination play.
The release date is March 12th 2013 on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
We recently had the opportunity recently to interview Michael Sroczynski, who is a producer from City Interactive working on Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2. Here is the interview:

Fancy beating up shadow lobsters as ‘Santa Claus’?
Story
Well, you’re in the right place! Rise of the Guardians lets you control one of five playable characters: Santa, Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, Jack Frost and Sandman. All in an effort to take down the villainous ‘Pitch’. These aren’t you’re typical festive friends however, Santa sports a thick Russian accent to go with his cutlass, whilst the Easter Bunny throws around a boomerang like there’s no tomorrow! Luckily, each character has some form of weapon/attack, hopefully making dispatching the shadow creatures a cinch.
Ultimately the story itself seemed a little bland and uninteresting, unfortunately lacking the charm and voice talent of its big screen counterpart was a large factor in this. Cut-scenes being presented via storyboard tiles did not help the sense of boredom encroaching upon me. Normally, accidentally skipping a cut-scene in a game would leave me distraught; forcing me to restart from an earlier save. The unfortunate time it happened here, I was almost relieved! I personally cannot stand storyboard cut-scenes, they feel lazy and lackluster as opposed to the intended ‘arty’ and original feel the developers were probably after.
Gameplay
I hope you’re X button works well as this game will really push your pad (and your thumb!) to breaking point. With basic hack and slash combat on tap; completely foregoing any kind of combo system, the combat will invariably get dull. Considering the small amount of enemy variation, with only an arbitrary level difference separating group from group, there is little reason to experiment. Even at a low level I found myself wandering into groups of enemies perhaps 10 levels above me and not struggling. There are special unlockable moves, which admittedly, are unique to each character, it’s just they aren’t even remotely necessary to progress through the game. In fact, in the meagre 4-5 hours it took to 100% the game, my most effective tactic was to utilize/spam the Easter Bunnies boomerang whilst revolving like a nutter in the centre of the screen. On occasion, when it took my fancy, pressing circle to launch a set of painted exploding eggs with a pretty devastating area of effect attack; yes I know how daft that sentence sounds!
As basic as the combat seems, there is some fun to be had here. It’s surprisingly addictive, add to this, the support for up to 4 players to jump in on the same screen can be entertaining. Just try not to pay too much attention to the frame rate drop if you do!
One annoying thing about this game, and many of this type to be fair, is that the evade/roll/dodge move is quicker at getting around the map than standard movement. It just looks daft rolling about all over the place as inevitably, there will be times when you want to cover a large distance. Then, unfortunately, you get into the habit; and never look back!
There is also a basic level up system in place here too. Points can be manually allocated into various categories such as speed and strength (which I would highly recommend!) Alternatively, you may let the computer ‘auto-level’ each character for you, as to why you would do that is beyond belief however, as some of the categories are clearly worse than others! With no obvious way to re-spend your points, there is a potential for screwing your character over but alas, at least there are others to choose from…
Hand in hand with the ‘RPG-lite’ levels are crystals to equip for each character, adding some interesting side effects to attacks, such as splash damage. Whether or not these made too much of a real world difference I don’t know however, still, it’s nice they’re there!
A Challenge?
No, not really! Given that there is no difficulty setting; that this is primarily aimed at the younger generation of gamers, you would be right in assuming that this is not a hardcore game! Each objective, of which there are around five staggeringly repetitive variations, are all marked on both the main and the mini-map, making navigation a cinch; exploration an unrewarding and pointless experience. Even, somehow, taking your time, the completion time is low, very low! The boss fights appear after an arbitrary amount of objectives have been completed, locking you in the area with no choice but to proceed in the story. Not wanting to miss anything, I completed all the objectives in each realm before moving on. Oddly, because of the previously mentioned restrictive and confusing story progression system, I technically finished the game before reaching the last third of the games locales.
Presentation
Graphically, this game isn’t great, even for a top down hack and slash. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 is not a new game by anyone’s standards, however as a reference point, it looks and sounds superior to this. Some of the effects on the special moves look nice enough with bright splashes of colour and some nifty particle effects making a welcome appearance. Unfortunately, the overall artistic direction suffers from a case of ‘the blands’! Unoriginal locales such as a library, sand-dune or a cheerful meadow feel uninspired and a disappointingly unvaried palette doesn’t help. A bit of a shame really, as every now and again, it can look great. Player animations are fine, but with a very limited repertoire of moves, they still age quickly. On this note, the characters seem to not have any real distinguishing or outstanding features from one another, save for some ‘hilarious and witty’ comments every now and again. If you are new to the franchise and have not seen the accompanying film, this game will not draw you in; sadly nor will it give you any real background about the characters either.
Should you buy?
I cannot honestly recommend you purchase this game at full price. If you’re really into Rise of the Guardians, you will at best get around five hours of playtime. With no branching storyline or other such draws, the replay value is also low. Unlockable art-work is nice but not exactly a deal breaker. Performance wise, as stated earlier, co-op can lower the frame rate somewhat. Other issues made rare appearances, such as floating AI companions; occasional hit-detection mishaps were also present. I did encounter one full lock-up, requiring a hard reset but with generous checkpoints a-plenty, it wasn’t such a heartache. Having neither a mandatory install or patch to download did make a pleasant change however!
If you have a couple of kids who are REALLY into Rise of the Guardians, then the local co-op could prove some entertainment for a drizzly afternoon. However, there are many more viable alternatives for both children and adults alike, such as Little Big Planet or any of the Lego games. My advice? Rent it or wait for the bargain bucket.

The next DLC expansion for Skyrim could be titled ‘Redguard’, it has been rumored.
Zenimax, the publisher that owns Bethesda Softworks, filed a trademark for the title Redguard back in March 2011.
The trademark is making news now because it will expire in February 2013, if Zenimax does not declare a use for the title. With an impending expiration, rumours began circling that it will be announced as the title for Skyrim‘s next expansion.
However, Zenimax also has the option to file for another trademark extension. The firm has already done so twice since the trademark was originally filed, most recently in August 2012.
Redguard is one of the races in the Elder Scrolls series which come from Hammerfell, one of the nations bordering Skyrim.
With the ‘Dragonborn’ expansion taking players into the bordering nation of Morrowind, it would make sense for the next expansion to take place in one of the other nations on Skyrim’s borders.
Of particular note is the city of Dragonstar in Hammerfell which, according to Elder Scrolls lore, has been a site of conflict between the nations of Skyrim and Hammerfell.
The trademark is not the first time the series would use ‘Redguard’ in its title. In 1998 a third-person spin-off of the series was released titled The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard.
Skyrim‘s ‘Dragonborn’ DLC released last month on Xbox 360, and will be available later in 2013 on PS3 and PC.

Verizon Announces S3 Jelly Bean Update VZW Jelly Bean Release NotesWe recently had the opportunity to preview parts of the new SEGA game Aliens: Colonial Marines – lets rock!
Aliens: Colonial Marines begins with an ostensibly abandoned ship, the U.S.S. Sulaco, recovered in orbit around LV-426. Players lead a group of highly trained United States Colonial Marines as they board the deserted craft to uncover the fate of the crew. They will have to fight to survive unspeakable horrors and their own anxieties as they chase down the truth behind a galaxy-spanning deception that places humanity at the mercy of the most murderous and deadly species in the universe.
The location for the preview was in London and had been transformed into Hadley’s Hope on LV-426. There were even facehuggers laying around!
During the day we played three separate elements of the new game and we shall talk about each in turn.
This is the single player story mode and has you playing as one of the Colonial Marines investigating the planet and coming under attack by the Xenos (think Aliens the film when they first get on the planet).
The campaign is a fairly standard first-person shooter mode where you explore various areas, perform tasks (such as moving sentry guns) and oh yeah, killing as many Xenos as you can in order to survive!
There are times when areas you go into are really dark and it’s difficult to see what’s going on. You can hear the constant beeping on the tracker and you know that something is out there, and that it’s coming for you.
We only got to play a single level of the game, but I certainly wanted to play more.
Escape is a multiplayer mode where your team can either play as the Marines attempting to escape or as the Xenos trying to stop them.
Escape is a lot of fun whether you are playing on either side. When you are killed, you remain dead, and the winning team is the one that survives, even if you only have one man, or Xeno left.
Because when you die you stay dead you play slightly differently – or at least I did. I found that I didn’t go charging into an area guns blazing, or acid spitting, until I was sure I could survive.
I look forward to playing this mode again when the game is released.
This mode is another multiplayer mode. Each game lasts ten minutes, encompassing two 5 minute sections. For the first 5 minutes your team are the Marines trying to kill all the Xenos, and the second 5 minutes sees you playing the Xenos trying to kill the Marines.
I found it great fun playing as the Marines, and you can even, if you are lucky, find the SMART gun – then all you have to do is sit back, wait for the gun to automatically lock on to any Xeno and just squeeze the trigger.
However playing as the Xenos is not as much fun. In fact it was really hard and my team kept getting wiped out over and over again. This wasn’t that our team was bad, it was just that the Marines could pick us off from great distances (and it was the same when the other team played as the Xenos).
During the game if you die you respawn, so at least you can keep trying.
Gearbox are going to have to do something to make this mode more interesting for the team playing the Xenos or I can see people skipping it.
I really enjoyed playing the campaign level and also the Escape mode, but not so much Extermination, so I really hope that changes.
Aliens: Colonial Marines is one of those games that has been talked about for years and is finally coming out.
It’s a pity we didn’t get to play more, we were certainly limited to what we were allowed to play, so I hope the rest of the game lives up to the hype and promise.
For now though I am looking forward to playing some more. For fans of the film this is going to be a great opportunity to explore areas that were only touched on, and Gearbox have certainly done their research. The game really does look and feel like Aliens.
Aliens: Colonial Marines is developed by Gearbox Software and will be published by SEGA, and is due for release on the 12th February for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and Wii U.

With only 39 hours to go the Kickstarter for Elite: Dangerous has hit its ££1,250,000 towards target and there is still time to spare.
“Elite: Dangerous” is the latest instalment of a long series of epic space games, starting with “Elite” – one of the most successful games of the 1980s.
Fight, trade, hunt your way across a giant galaxy of billions of star systems, starting with a basic starship and a few credits. You can make money from trading goods between the many star systems, by destroying pirate ships (and collecting bounty), or even by attacking traders and collecting their cargo (which in turn will get a bounty on your head!). There will be missions too, and exploration. Most people will do some combination of these things. Upgrade your ship and specialise in one activity – have a trader with a huge cargo bay, or use the space for weapons and manoeuvrability.
Real Freedom – Go where you like, be what you like – pirate, bounty hunter, trader, assassin, or some mix of all of these.
Trade – Buy low, cross dangerous space lanes, evade or destroy pirates en route, then sell high, if you make the journey!
Fight – Take on the pirates or be one yourself
Progress – Get your pilot rating all the way from “Harmless” to “Elite”
Explore – Head out to the far reaches of space and discover amazing sights
And the best part – you can do all this online with your friends, or other “Elite” pilots like yourself, or even alone. The choice is yours…
