In the screenshots, Aiden Pearce connects with Clara Lille, a woman with her own dark past and questionable methods. He uses any and all methods to exact vengeance against his enemies, be it hacking into personal cell phone conversations or using physical threats to get what he wants.

Players will assume the role of Aiden Pearce, a new type of vigilante who, with the help of his smartphone, will use his ability to hack into Chicago’s central operating system (ctOS) and control almost every element of the city. Aiden will be able to tap into the city’s omnipresent security cameras, download personal information to locate a target, control systems such as traffic lights or public transportation to stop a chase, and more. The city of Chicago is now the ultimate weapon.

Review of Black Ops 2: Revolution DLC From Activision

Forever a controversial subject, Call of Duty DLC has been consistently criticised for it’s pricing and general ‘cut and paste’ level design from game to game. With a bonus weapon included in this first of four batches, Treyarch and Activision hope to break the mould; finally remove all doubt regarding it’s products.

4153Downhill - Warning Thin Ice

Play Online Much?

Four new-fangled multiplayer maps, an SMG for use in multiplayer, an original zombie mode and a completely fresh zombie map are all incorporated into this first drop. The amount of content alone is vastly superior to the previous game’s offerings. All four maps are unique in design, appearance and tactics, not only from each other, but from the core maps that come as standard.

The Peacekeeper is the new gun, a hybrid with the range and accuracy of an assault rifle, yet the manoeuvrability of an SMG, incredibly useful in all scenarios, yet lets itself down at either of the extreme ranges. For example a PDW will beat it close up and a FAL will probably win at extreme range, yet for everything in that hazy middle ground, it can more than hold it’s own.

Hydro takes place at, surprise, a hydroelectric dam! A relatively symmetrical map, it’s close encounters and few long lines of sight are perfect for fast paced, close engagement matches. On each side/spawn point, there is an upper walkway with enough of a vantage point to try to keep people out of your team’s spawn! The main gimmick here being that every so often, a torrent of water rushes the lower level, instantly killing anyone foolish enough to ignore the warning signs! A decent map in of itself, but spawn rushing seems to happen often on the smaller maps; this is no exception!

Downhill is the resident ‘snowy’ map, featuring part of a ski resort, it includes long sight lines, perfect for campy snipers and those target finder LMG’s…Some flanking routes and a small inner section let’s those SMG’s open up on unwary foes. Another terrain hazard on this map, this one’s a lot more sarcastic however! Beware the unintimidating, leisurely paced cable cars, speeding along at a dizzying 1 mph, these can, and will flatten even the most perceptive of players!

4155Grind - Half Pipe Drop

Mirage is set in the desert; as such is a nice change of scenery. An interestingly laid out map, the domination points are set out in an equilateral triangle, leading to some excellent back and fourth’s between teams. A good mixture of line of sights and close range battles with plenty of cover in-between makes for some furious fire fights; choosing the corresponding loadout for your style of play is of obvious importance here!

Grind is by far the most visually arresting of the bunch, offering colour like you’ve never seen before in CoD! A stark contrast and a refreshing change gives it a much more ‘arcadey’ feel. With an incredibly busy centre portion; head glitches on the outsides, this can be a very dangerous map. Flanks are exposed and there are multiple entries to the main building, creating a false sense of power when overlooking an area.

They Just Keep Coming!

The new zombies map, perhaps aptly named ‘Die Rise’ brings a whole new threat to the zombie uprising. Long death defying leaps between floors of a towering building are the least of your concern here. Elevator shafts transport you and perk machines across several floors of the building, disorientating rooms that defy the laws of the universe as you know them, all combine to make your first attempt destined to fail!

4161Turned

New weapons, hilarious traps and of course the ever continuing storyline secrets are all present. Zombie fans will probably get their moneys worth out of this alone, for everyone else, it’s still an excellent way to spend an afternoon or five!

Along with the new map, a new zombie mode enters the fray, called Turned. Playing a little like ‘gun game’ in reverse, you either start off as a zombie or a human. As the human, your inevitable goal is survive as long as possible. As the zombie, kill the human!

For What It’s Worth

Of course pricing is always subjective, if you play Black Ops 2 a lot, around £12 is very reasonable for the amount of content here. Maps can be played in their own dedicated playlist, but they are also added to the roster in other game types helping mix it up a little. It’s probably the best value DLC Call of Duty have ever released. Add to that, the maps are not only comparable to the standard ones, but are in some cases, just plain better. If you’ve ever been on the fence regarding buying a map pack, there is no better place to start than here, viva la revolution!

Playable in OverRun mode, Dreadnought is set on the naval vessel CNV Pomeroy, on which the COG transported captured Locust Berserkers following Emergence Day.

“Little did they know that the Locust had waterborne beasts from the underground rivers of the Hollow, or that the Locust soldiers would use them so relentlessly to rescue the captured Berserkers,” reads the map’s description.

“The Pomeroy was corralled into a narrow channel and forced ashore, where the Locust sent a mass of troops to assault and overwhelm the beached vessel.”

Maxim sponsored a previous DLC featuring the Haven map and new Execution mode, which debuted in March. The DLC will be available for free for a limited time. The first Maxim DLC remains free at this time. The new Gears of War: Judgment DLC will debut on 15th May.

Review of Dead Space 3: The Awakened DLC by EA

The Awakened DLC promises to deliver a more psychological edge of scares and unease to counter Dead Space 3’s unfortunate lack of frights. Can Dead Space finally become chilling again or has it’s undulating quest towards ‘Action Shooter’ finally reached it’s uttermost peak?

dead_space_3_ice_demo_02_tga_jpgcopy

What’s The Threat?

The DLC takes place after the events of the game, and is initiated from the main menu. A brief recap is given at the start to either refresh or spoil the ending of the game if you are yet to complete it!

Once again, the two protagonists are thrust into yet another unknown situation with the characters mere guesswork being the reasoning behind progression. Needless to say, things soon turn sour and even the characters own psyche are thrown into doubt. The plot is enjoyable, accessible and follows on nicely from the main narrative. The only problem being that it’s about half the length of what it should have been.

Back The Way You Came…

Thankfully, there is a severe lack of of back-tracking, a problem the Dead Space series has embraced fully and become rather well known for it. However, there is nothing much new to see here either. Areas are recycled from the main game without impunity; a colour swap pallet is all you need to give the impression of progression.

Enemies are reused from the latter sections of the game, so tool up and expect a challenge if you struggled before. A couple of new boss battles occur; are a vast improvement upon the mains’ efforts. New weapon tips are available to help create an all new fabled ‘ulti-gun’, giving the more creative types room for experimentation. Personally, I found my incendiary LMG complete with under slung force gun from my original save game seemed to fulfil all my necro-slaying needs!

dead_space_3_ice_demo_01_tga_jpgcopy

Old Resident Evil Or New?

Again, the survival horror genre takes a hit once more. Admittedly, there are more moments in The Awakened akin to the old roots. A nemesis like foe haunts you throughout, as well as some darker sections with unnerving psychosomatic events. These would feel a lot more intimidating were it not for the previously mentioned overpowered weaponry Isaac wields. A few collectibles are dotted around in the guise of text logs letting you extrapolate some more backstory.

The DLC really moves towards action during the latter half of the content. Drawing parallels to our favourite scripted scenes, the DLC ends with a bang. Feeling a little more conclusive and far less anti-climactic than the main game, it ends satisfactorily whilst conversely still leaving a bitter taste in length.

Worth Every Penny?

Not really no! It’s very entertaining, yet short, recycled and still not that scary. For just shy of 10 pounds, I got approximately 3 hours of playtime for a first run on normal whilst collecting the vast majority of text logs and circuit boards. The cut-scenes and voice acting are seemingly better than the main game and as such are more engaging. The sound is still haunting; rasping screams in the dark will still panic you at least!

However, other than the fact that it will probably take you longer to read this than it does to actually complete this DLC, it was still a short sharp burst of necromorph fun nonetheless.

Assassin’s Creed 4 Video Focuses on PS4 development

Ubisoft Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag has been given a new trailer. The latest Assassin’s Creed 4 video goes behind the scenes with members of the development team, who discuss their experiences working with the PS4.
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dgb3VuRXh3Q?feature=player_detailpage%5D

Associate producer Sylvain Trottier highlights the visual differences between current and next-generation versions of Black Flag, before saying that the PS4 was custom built for the developers.

Meanwhile, creative director Jean Guesdon praises the system’s share button, which he believes promotes a connected experience.

Confirmed earlier this year, Assassin’s Creed 4 will be set in the Caribbean in 1715, with players taking control of Edward Kenway, the grandfather of Assassin’s Creed 3 protagonist Connor Kenway.

Said to be the biggest Assassin’s Creed game yet, it will feature 50 unique locations including the cities of Havana, Kingston and Nassau, as well as fishing villages, smugglers’ coves, plantations and jungles and more.

With Desmond’s story concluded, the player themselves will assume the hero in the present day setting, working for Abstergo and researching Kenway’s backstory.

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag will release 1st November in Europe and 29th October  in North America on Xbox 360, PC, Wii U, the PS3 and PS4.
