Review: Fire HD 8 Tablet

Amazon has long been renowned for its affordable technology. Furthermore, though their items may not be as aesthetically pleasing as their peers, they are well-built, feature-packed, and excellent value for money. The Fire HD 8 Tablet continues this trend! With minor improvements over its predecessor, this tablet will impress newcomers, but it won’t be as groundbreaking for existing customers.

With a familiar finish, fans of the Amazon tablet range will feel right at home. Moreover, a 2MP rear and front-facing camera enables you to video call, record, and take pictures to your heart’s content. On top of this, the slick interface is reliable, smooth, and responsive. However, if you’ve used an Apple or Samsung device, the UI will feel a little cumbersome by comparison.

For this review, I was kindly provided with a protective case specifically designed for the Fire HD 8 Tablet. This was a necessary addition as it makes the device much more user-friendly while keeping it protected. However, more on this later.

What’s in the box of the Fire HD 8 Tablet?

  • The packing is rudimentary, attractive, and recyclable. However, the box isn’t as robust as I’d have expected. Accordingly, it is much lighter and less substantial than its peers.
  • The Fire HD 8 Tablet is protected by a slim paper sleeve. Moreover, it has a familiar plastic finish with a tactile and grippy rear panel. The buttons are comfortable to use and easy to find. Additionally, the USB-C charging point is conveniently placed.
  • The USB-C charging cable is moderately sized and of good quality. Thankfully, if the cable isn’t long enough, you can replace it with any standard USB-C charging cable.
  • A USB-A plug. Unlike other tech brands, Amazon provides you with a USB-A plug to charge your device.
  • A simple user manual. Though not entirely necessary, you can study the fundamentals with the quick start guide.

Technical aspects.

If you have an earlier version of this device, you’ll notice limited differences. Yet, if you are new to the brand or you have a much older iteration, this will be a vast improvement. Thanks to the enhanced Hexa-core 2.0 GHz processor, the Fire HD 8 Tablet is up to 30% faster than the previous models. This is perfect as the UI isn’t as rapid as its peers. However, the improved processing power paired with the 2 GB of RAM makes this a pleasant experience.

Alongside this, the battery life is reassuringly good. You’ll get up to 13 hours of streaming, gaming, or reading out of one charge. What’s more, the USB-C charging option gets you back up and running in around 5 hours. This may seem slow compared to other devices, but with some forward planning, it isn’t as painful as it first appears.

The 8-inch HD display is pleasant, crisp, and responsive. This compact screen enables you to watch Amazon Prime, catch up TV, or Netflix with ease. The 1280×800 (189 PPI) resolution won’t blow you away, but it’s suitable for this sized device. On top of this, you’ll enjoy Dolby Atmos as standard.

Usability.

High-end features are desirable. Yet, I want my tablet to be user-friendly and easy to set up. Thankfully, if you use any other Amazon item, you’ll be extremely comfortable. However, if you are new to this, you’ll enjoy a straightforward procedure that takes under 10 minutes to sort out. Furthermore, once your device is connected to your Amazon account, you can create additional profiles for your family with ease.

As expected, the Fire HD 8 Tablet allows users to download many popular apps. Additionally, if you have any kids in your household, you can set parental controls to keep them safe. Sadly, though, the app store isn’t as vast as the iOS or Play alternative, so this may cause some frustrations. This is a minor complaint, as I was able to install apps and play the games that I wanted. However, it is something that must be considered depending on your requirements.

Alexa!

It wouldn’t be an Amazon product if it didn’t have Alexa! The voice-operated AI helps you to search for apps, movies, TV series, and much more. At the press of a button, you can let your tablet and Alexa do all the work. However, if you don’t wish to use this excellent feature, it can be disabled in the settings.

One of my significant concerns is the responsive nature of the on-screen keyboard. Other tablets have disappointed me in the past. Their clumsy ways and slow response times make it an arduous and frustrating experience. Well, thankfully, the Fire HD 8 Tablet is different. The keyboard is a pleasant size and is unbelievably accurate. As such, I enjoyed typing emails, using the Internet, and searching for apps from the store.

Though the camera isn’t that strong, it is more than sufficient for the price point. With 2 MP for both front and back lenses, the photo quality isn’t that spectacular. However, the 720p recording is nice enough if you haven’t got your mobile phone or high-end camera to hand.

The Fire HD 8 Tablet case.

You can use this tablet without a case if you so wish. Yet, I’d say they are essential as they keep it protected. Furthermore, they look fantastic, and you can stand your tablet up with ease. The grey model-specific case has a textile finish. Moreover, there is a pleasant-looking Amazon logo. The hardened material keeps the device protected as well as holding it in place with ease. Furthermore, the camera is not obstructed and the buttons are easy to use.

Alongside the robust design, you’ll enjoy a magnetic finish that keeps it closed. This feature doubles up as a stand and can be used in both portrait or landscape options. This was particularly handy when listening to Amazon music, watching Prime, or streaming a film. Though this case is a minor addition to the setup, I believe it improves usability and should be something you invest in.

Is the Fire HD 8 Tablet worth it?

The Fire HD 8 Tablet can be purchased as a 32 GB version or a 64 GB version. I was provided with the latter and both options can be expanded up to 1 TB with a micro SD card. Alongside this, there is a plus version which improves both the RAM and the rear camera. However, this comes at an additional cost. On top of this, you can buy one with or without advertisements. The difference in price is minimal, so pay a little more and get a cleaner experience.

The model variants to one side, the Fire HD 8 Tablet, is an exceptional device for the money. Not only is it extremely user-friendly, but it is faster than previous iterations, more robust than the iPad mini, and it has a pleasant and vibrant screen. Additionally, it isn’t too heavy, and the familiar finish is reassuring. Accordingly, I was impressed and I recommend that you buy it here

The Fire HD 8 Tablet is awarded the Movies Games and Tech Gold Award.

Overview of Mechanical Keyboards for Gaming Enthusiasts

0

A keyboard for gamers should be comfortable and quiet and offer excellent response times. This is because you may need to type very quickly when playing games. A keyboard with a good anti-ghosting feature will allow multiple keys to be pressed simultaneously without any of them being ignored by the system. The final issue worth noting is finding a keyboard with the right number of keys for your gaming needs.

But some users like mechanical keyboards. These are a little bit different from normal keyboards. The layout is similar, but the design is different. Users can make their desired changes to these keyboards. For casino games, players can use any keyboard. Gambling is more about strategies than hardware specifications.

What are mechanical keyboards? These technical aspects of the gaming setup make sense. But choosing the expensive keyboard seems odd. We will also analyze the benefits of mechanical keyboards. This guide will explore what a mechanical keyboard is. And why it is better than a normal keyboard.

Basics of Mechanical Keyboards

A mechanical keyboard is a keyboard with mechanical switches under the keys. This differs from rubber domes or membrane switches found in typical keyboards. They also offer a feel of typewriter keys.

These keyboards have key switches. These key switches are made of high-quality plastic material. Pressing these keys feels more satisfying. There are different benefits of these keyboards.

This arrangement makes gaming easier as the keyboard takes less effort to press all the keys easily. The other advantage is that mechanical keyboards last longer than regular keyboards. Here are some popular mechanical keyboards that are available in the market:

  • Corsair K70 RGB
  • Ducky One 2 Mini
  • Logitech G Pro
  • Razer BlackWidow Elite
  • SteelSeries Apex Pro
  • Keychron K6

A normal mechanical keyboard consists of a keycap, housing, and stem. Pressing the keycap will activate the physical switch on the housing. Keys will generate a clicking sound when you press them. That sound confirms that the key has been registered.

Advantages of using Mechanical Keyboards for Gaming

Every gamer knows that improving the gaming setup will make their activity more efficient and enjoyable. So, choosing a more advanced keyboard is a smart choice. If you think gaming tools and PCs are expensive for you, choosing online gambling is still a valid option here.

Online Gambling does not require High-end Hardware

Even if you are not a professional player, online casino games can offer you quick bucks. Getting started with online gambling is easier than ever. The availability of polskie kasyno online offers exclusive opportunities to get started without bigger deposits. Mechanical keyboards provide multiple benefits that cannot be found in normal keyboards. These benefits are listed as follows:

1. A Mechanical Keyboard is Durable

Players spend hours playing different games. If you are a desktop or laptop user, having a good keyboard for gambling will make your experience a lot better. Most types of mechanical keyboards are made of high-quality plastic material. They are not just durable; they can last for years without any issues of damage or replacement. For example, you can use the same Alienware keyboard for about ten years and still experience the same functionality as when you first opened it from its box.

2. Mechanical Keyboards Last Longer

In addition to being durable, mechanical keyboards also last longer than normal keyboards. Suppose you buy a $10 regular keyboard to replace a broken one. You will require spending another $10 in a few weeks. These keyboards are not durable, and many other components break quickly. Here are simple steps to take care of keyboards:

  • Keep the keyboard clean and free from dust.
  • Avoid eating or drinking near the keyboard.
  • Use a keycap puller to remove and clean keycaps if necessary.
  • Regularly clean the keyboard with a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Avoid using excessive force when typing or gaming.
  • Store the keyboard in a clean and dry environment.

3. Mechanical Keyboards are Bright and Colorful

Online casino games can be boring sometimes. With the right selections of themed slots, gameplay can be quite interesting. You cannot get a normal black-and-white keyboard for gaming purposes; you must go for colorful keyboards instead of boring black-and-white ones. A colorful keyboard is more attractive and will give a better impression when you show you setup to others. The mechanical keyboards normally come in different colors that instantly attract the gamer’s eye.

4. Mechanical Keyboards have Better Sound Quality

The sound quality produced by mechanical keyboards is simply superb. The click you hear when pressing any key is more audible and, therefore, better than the sound produced by normal keyboards.

5. Mechanical Keyboards are More Responsive and Precise

Finding a keyboard that will produce the same exact response as your regular touchpad is not easy. This can be attributed to many factors, such as the physical size of the touchpad, its resistance properties, and touch sensitivity properties.

How to Choose the Right Mechanical Keyboard?

Choosing the right mechanical keyboard for gaming is important. These keyboards produce different sounds, have different levels of responsiveness, and come in various colors. Therefore, choosing the right one can be a very challenging task, but it boils down to a few factors discussed in this section.

Type of keycaps

Pressing a Cherry MX key will produce sound, but will not generate any click feeling when pressed. They also make less noise compared to other mechanical keyboards, hence quieter than their counterparts.

A Topre key press will produce a click feeling when you press any key. This is the closest feeling to a typewriter sound. The keys are also more responsive and durable than Cherry MX keys.

Conclusion

As you have come to know, mechanical keyboards are not a product that is used only for gaming purposes, in the modern era; these are used for many other computing purposes too. They provide better keystroke accuracy and tactile feedback and come in different colors, which make them more attractive to gamers. For both video games and casino games, mechanical keyboards are a good fit.

Choosing the right mechanical keyboard for gaming purposes is a tedious task since there are many options in the market, but if you follow these factors based on your personal preferences and requirements, then choosing the perfect keyboard will be easy for you.

Apex Legends: 5 Facts About Pubg Killer

0

Apex Legends is a game that falls under the popular battle royale genre developed by Respawn Entertainment. The game was released in 2019 and is now one of the most-played battle royale games in the world, making it a fierce competitor to other battle royale games such as PUBG.

During its release, PUBG was quickly the most famous battle royale game, but the hype slowed down when Apex Legends appeared and essentially “killed” PUBG. With engaging and exciting gameplay, Apex Legends has been constantly stealing PUBG’s player base and claiming them to be their own. This article will cover five facts that make Apex Legends such a great game compared to PUBG.

You Can Crossplay From Different Platforms

One reason why Apex Legends has such a massive player base is that the game is accessible through multiple different platforms. Apex Legends is available on PC, Playstation, Xbox, and the Nintendo Switch.

Being able to run the game on so many devices has allowed players from different age groups and gaming backgrounds to play with and against each other on different platforms. Children who may not have access to good computers can play Apex Legends on more accessible devices such as the Playstation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch.

By having more platforms to play on, the queue times of Apex Legends matches drastically decreased, as players from different platforms can end up playing in the same match. These lowered queue times have made Apex Legends much more enjoyable to play as there is less downtime, and players can fit in as many matches in a session.

Apex Legends Has Incredible Tournaments

One of the most exciting things about Apex Legends is watching the best players competing against each other in massive Apex Legends tournaments. Watching and learning from professionals has become increasingly popular, as many players also partake in Apex Legends betting. Fans can bet on Apex Legends matches being played in million-dollar tournaments, making the spectating experience more thrilling. The community vibe is also strengthened as fans who enjoy Apex Legends betting can discuss matches and players with each other, creating conversational topics for everyone to join.

The Apex Legends esports scene continues to grow, as in 2022, the Apex Legends Global Series managed to gather a prize pool of $2,000,000, where teams from all around the world met up to compete. Millions of fans watched the tournament live, and the 2023 iteration of the Apex Legends Global Series is expected to be a massive success.

You Can Choose From Different Characters

Though PUBG and Apex Legends are both battle royale games, one massive difference between these two games is that Apex Legends has multiple playable characters that have unique abilities and skill sets, while in PUBG, players don’t have any specific abilities or characters to select from.

Currently, in Apex Legends, there are 23 playable characters called “Legends.” All these Legends have different looks and abilities that make them unique. Having Legends creates another layer of gameplay mechanics that can be very fun for Apex Legends players to learn.

Though the learning curve may be steeper with this mechanic, playing different Legends is much more enjoyable rather than being stuck to a default character with no unique abilities like in PUBG.

New accounts will only start with six Legends, which include Wraith, Pathfinder, Bloodhound, Gibraltar, Bangalore, and Lifeline. The remaining 18 Legends can be unlocked by playing the game more.

Teams Consist Of Three Players Instead Of Four

Another difference between PUBG and Apex Legends is that Apex Legends teams consist of three players instead of the four in PUBG. The difference in party sizes can be significant for Apex Legends, as in teams of three, all three players will have significant and designated roles in a team’s tactical approach. Each player is much more critical now that a team only consists of three players, while players have more flexible roles in PUBG’s teams of four.

An Apex Legends match will have 20 teams of three, meaning there will be a total of 60 players, while PUBG matches tend to have 100 players in a single match. Having a smaller pool of players in a match can mean that Apex Legends provides fast-paced gameplay, as team encounters can happen more frequently. This allows Apex Legends matches to last shorter durations making them less boring.

Since Apex Legends teams require one less person per team, this can significantly help with the matchmaking in Apex Legends. Requiring fewer players will mean that friends can queue up quickly without looking for a fourth player. As mentioned earlier, shorter queue times can enhance the gaming experience, as players won’t have too much downtime queuing and finding a match.

Apex Legends Has More Players Than PUBG In 2023 On Steam

Steam is arguably the most prominent platform on which players can play video games. In 2023, according to Steam Charts, Apex Legends has already overtaken PUBG in current players, peak players, and hours played in May. Apex Legends is currently the third most-played game on the Steam platform, while PUBG sits behind them in fourth place.

It is still important to note that Apex Legends has multiple platforms to play on, so these figures on Steam only cover part of the Apex Legends player base. Meanwhile, games such as Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive can only be played on Steam, meaning that the figures cover the entire player base of both games.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Apex Legends is one of the most popular battle royale games today. The popularity Apex Legends gained has allowed it to surpass the previous most-played battle royale game, PUBG. This happened because Apex Legends is highly accessible, has many large-scale tournaments, selectable characters, and is more engaging and fast-paced.

Review: Trinity Trigger

This week on JRPGs I tried for a bit, we have Trinity Trigger. Developed by FuRyu and published by Xseed Games here in the West, it follows a somewhat cliched story whilst attempting to introduce some fresh mechanics to keep things from going stale. Do they succeed? Read on and find out.

Trinity Trigger sees you inhabit the world of Trinitia, in ancient times there was a war between the Gods of Order and the Gods of Chaos. Being the lazy gits Gods usually are, they fought by choosing humans to do battle on their behalf. You take on the role of Cyan, a suspiciously average village boy who quite obviously has some form of royal heritage and are thrust into a world-wide adventure when it turns out there are assassins out to get you. I said it was cliched.

Trinity Trigger_20230517174802

The mechanic that FuRyu have adopted in order to differentiate their game from every other mid-range JRPG is that of the titular Triggers. Triggers are adorable little sidekicks that chosen warriors can summon in order to help them fight. They can take on the form of various weapons each with their own pros, cons and, of course, skill trees. Combat is simple enough as a base concept; hack, slash, and dodge your way to victory.

The more you battle the more skill points you gain, allowing you to specialise a bit more in a particular weapon. Add in three main party members and that’s a decent degree of strategy for such a simple game.

The one downside I can see from my few hours in-game is that the AI controlling the other two characters is not great. Routinely they would remain in the big red-orange blinking path of a charging boss despite the klaxons going off and my character running for their lives and who has to heal them up? That’s right, this chump.

Trinity Trigger_20230517175908

Another fault in combat is the procedurally generated dungeons and forests you explore; each is soulless and felt more like a series of hurdles to jump to find the next story beat than a meaningful challenge. I found myself just charging through as quickly as possible rather than spend another minute fighting whatever nonsense had just respawned behind me.

The narrative is interesting enough and the characters are charmingly drawn and voiced enough that I wanted to see what happened next but, and I may be wrong, I think the “twist”, as it were, is as plain as day due to an unfortunate cutscene choice at the beginning of the game. I’ll not spoil it but it’s hardly M. Night Shylamalan levels.

Trinity Trigger_20230518102942

Artistically is where the game truly thrives for me, the art style is gorgeous even if this doesn’t always translate into the scenery and the anime-style cutscenes reminded me of watching the Pokémon series as a child, and I don’t mean in a nostalgic sense, rather the cutscenes seem like they’re done in an old cartoon style, whether by artistic choice or cost-cutting measure it’s hard to say.

Trinity Trigger will certainly endear itself to fans of 90s JRPGs with its aesthetic and world-building for sure but do bear in mind that emulating the 90s isn’t always a good thing in video-game land.

Review: Color Pals

Sometimes a simple idea can be underwhelming and disappointing. However, in the case of Color Pals, I was thoroughly impressed. This basic indie title is colourful, testing, and enjoyable. Moreover, it is addictive and it will make you swear repeatedly.

Developed by Double Mizzlee and Eastasiasoft Limited and published by the latter, this is a puzzle title. What’s more, it incorporates basic platform mechanics and has a fine layer of difficulty to keep you going. However, its short game length and lack of replay value hold it back. Consequently, the developers missed a trick by ignoring both a speedrun option and an NG+ mode.

So many spikes to avoid on this level.
That is a lot of spikes.

Color Pals tells no story.

You control a colourful square that wishes to escape each level. This simple creature can jump and do little else. Yet, its agility and determination ensure that you make it through most of the levels unscathed. What confused me, though, was the lack of a story. Subsequently, the action has no depth, and there was no justification as to what was happening.

Alongside this, other than the puzzles, you’ll experience no big bosses. With 50 stages to complete, I’d have expected to face 5 monstrous creatures. However, the game meanders on with minor changes to the action and occasionally more convoluted arenas to traverse.

Level 33 completed and 3 stars collected.
3 stars and on to the next level.

The lack of depth didn’t matter.

Though I sound like I’m moaning, I enjoyed Color Pals. The action is unbelievably addictive, and the drip-fed ideas ensure that you rarely feel uncomfortable. What’s more, the quick stages help to alleviate any sense of loss when you die repeatedly. The core concept is straightforward and each stage is made up of different coloured platforms. The hero begins as one colour and he must traverse each level collecting stars and keys and changing his colour. If you don’t match the colour of the platform you land on, you’ll die and lose your progress. Moreover, there are moving spikes to avoid as they will kill you instantly.

Alongside this, the game tries to make each stage look more complicated than it is. Consequently, you’ll change colour repeatedly only to realise that many of the moves were unnecessary. This was brilliantly cheeky and something that’ll make you chuckle. However, when you die unnecessarily, you’ll swear, sigh, and curse the developer’s evil shenanigans.

Color Pals oozes indie charm.

I cannot decide what makes Color Pals so charming. Is it the simple gameplay, vivid colour palette, or old-school aesthetic? Whatever it is, this oozes indie charm. Every stage plays out using a fixed-screen perspective. This was a fantastic choice as it made solving each level much more achievable. Furthermore, the hero is cute as hell and the stage design is interesting and normally more complex than necessary. Accordingly, you’ll chuckle as you unnecessarily complete extra steps or analyse each situation.

The audio is equally refined. The wonderful chiptune music is shrill, and basic, but brilliantly retro. Moreover, there are limited tracks to listen to. As you die, the game selects one track at random for you to enjoy. However, with only a handful of songs on offer, the audio is somewhat repetitive.

Color Pals has 50 levels to complete and 150 stars to collect.
50 levels and 150 stars.

A straightforward affair with simple controls.

Unsurprisingly, this straightforward affair has a simple control layout. Additionally, the responsive inputs ensure that you can navigate tight spaces and avoid every moving obstacle.

50 levels stand between you and ultimate glory. Furthermore, each stage has 3 stars to collect if you wish to perfect every level. As such, there is some replay value and longevity. However, with no NG+ mode or speedrun option, the developers missed a trick. Yet, it is inexpensive and will entertain you for around 3-4 hours.

Color Pals may not be perfect, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Color Pals is a basic indie game that doesn’t break the mould. However, I was addicted to its rudimentary approach and its wonderfully garish visuals. On top of this, the action is brilliantly moreish and occasionally cruel. Consequently, it is tough to put down and will often make you curse your luck. Accordingly, I enjoyed it despite some shortcomings. Therefore, I recommend that you buy it here! Can you overcome every obstacle and make it to the portal? Change your colour, grab the keys, avoid the spikes, and complete every level.

Review: FIFINE H6 Headphones

People often underestimate the necessity of having decent headphones. High-quality audio can create an immersive atmosphere whilst giving you a game-changing edge. Therefore, it’s always worthwhile investing in the best headphones you can afford. More often than not, market-leading devices come with a matching price tag. Therefore, if you have a limited budget, you may be forced to compromise. Thankfully, the FIFINE H6 Headphones break this cycle as they offer phenomenal sound for under £50.

Compatible with PC and PS4/PS5, these headphones aren’t as versatile as some of their counterparts. However, if you game on either of these systems, you can enjoy a feature-packed device at a fraction of the cost. Additionally, the build quality is fantastic, there is RGB lighting to add a wow factor, and there are 3 EQ modes to change things on the fly. Consequently, these headphones pack a punch while delivering crisp audio and awesome microphone quality.

What’s in the box of the FIFINE H6 Headphones?

  • The simple packaging is nice to look at and feels sturdy and strong. Thankfully, it is recyclable, and this was an excellent move by FIFINE. The small cardboard box looks professional and eye-catching as it displays key selling points and some basic images.
  • The FIFINE H6 Headphones have a built-in USB audio cable. Unlike its peers, this headset doesn’t use a 3.5mm audio jack. The USB cable has a large in-line audio controller as well as a detachable microphone. The leatherette over-ear cups are snug, comfortable, and breathable.
  • The detachable microphone has an LED light to indicate the use of the mute function.
  • A user manual talks you through the fundamentals.

Technical aspects.

Wired gaming headsets must deliver exceptional sound quality while being comfortable to wear. Furthermore, a decent microphone is a must if you play online with friends. Thankfully, the FIFINE H6 Headphones won’t let you down. The audio quality is pleasant, with a decent range of tones and a punchy bass to back things up. Moreover, the virtual 7.1 surround sound option is a game-changer. Alongside this, the microphone is precise, clear, and easy to use. Finally, the build quality was remarkably impressive and these headphones can be worn for hours on end.

Whenever I see a headset below £50, I’m a little dubious. At this price point, I’m not expecting too much as I don’t want to be disappointed. Well, thanks to the incredible 50mm drivers, the FIFINE H6 Headphones surprised me. The pleasant range of tones combined with the comfortable but meaty bass was impressive. Additionally, the ability to change your EQ mode on the fly was exceptional.

The surprises continued, thanks to the excellent microphone quality. Detachable mics are known to be problematic. Normally, the connections are tinny and poor. However, this one is clear, and I experienced no interference or echoed sound. As such, these are fantastic headphones if you wish to game with friends online.

Build quality.

Exceptional sound quality is one thing, but you want your headphones to last. Luckily, the FIFINE H6 Headphones are reassuringly sturdy, comfortable, and lightweight. The strong headband can be adjusted with ease and feels nice during extended gaming sessions. Alongside this, the built-in USB cable and in-line controller appear hard-wearing and robust. Additionally, the microphone port is well-placed and isn’t too obtrusive when the mic is unattached.

Overheating ears is the biggest complaint when it comes to over-ear headphones. Thankfully, the breathable material and pleasant cup size reduce this issue. What’s more, the snug fit ensures that the passive noise cancellation works well. Though these weren’t as comfortable as the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX, it mattered not. For the price point, they were pleasant enough, and I never experienced any discomfort.

Are the FIFINE H6 Headphones worth it?

Though the price shouldn’t be a leading factor, I was amazed at what you get for under £50. Not only do these headphones look great, but they feel comfortable while delivering fantastic audio quality. Furthermore, the microphone works perfectly well and the 7.1 surround sound is a game-changer. Like the EQ modes, this setting can be activated at the flick of a switch. Once active, you’ll be sucked into your game as every noise can be heard with pinpoint precision. Alongside this, the simple mute function is simple to use and easy to identify. Thanks to a red LED, you know whenever you can’t be heard. Moreover, you don’t need to come out of your game to play with the settings if you wish for a bit of privacy.

On top of this, the excellent RGB lighting is pleasant to the eye. The vivid colours make this headset pop. Additionally, the build quality is impressive, and I’d have no concerns when handing them to heavy-handed teenagers. Consequently, I was impressed by these headphones and I recommend that you buy them here!

Review: Strayed Lights

Strayed Lights is an immersive title that balances exploration and slick combat perfectly. What’s more, a lack of dialogue adds to a sinister and surreal atmosphere. However, its strange ways and lack of direction may be off-putting for some gamers. Yet, I loved its captivating world, weird creatures, and alluring imagery.

Developed and published by Embers, this is an immersive adventure title. Moreover, it has some incredible cinematic, a beautiful soundtrack, and some amazingly slick combat. Additionally, you’ll need the reflexes and dexterity of a cat as you parry, dodge, and weave your way to victory.

Strayed Lights explores inner turmoil.

No matter how confident you are, there is always doubt and inner turmoil. We all experience that little voice in our head that tells us not to do something. This is perfectly normal, but Strayed Lights takes this idea and creates a massive semi-open world out of it.

You control a nascent light that is on a journey to free itself from the darkness. This newborn entity battles itself and an array of creatures as it comes to terms with its existence. En route, it discovers the power to change colour. This new ability is essential, as it forms the backbone of every fight it faces. On top of this, the hero must explore vast spaces and soothe an array of siblings.

Fight everything you face.
Use your powers to overcome this fiery beast.

A wonderfully simple concept.

On paper, Strayed Lights doesn’t sound that interesting. However, the unusual mechanics and wonderful aesthetics make it a magical title. Furthermore, its core concept is basic but fascinating. The hero evolves across the course of the game. Yet, the fundamental ideas remain the same. No matter how skilful it becomes, it boils down to the simple dodge and parry mechanics.

Alongside this, each of your foes emits 3 coloured lights. Like the hero, they can illuminate orange or blue. On top of this, they have a unique purple hue. The latter option is deadly as it indicates an attack that cannot be parried. Consequently, you must run or dodge their advances if you wish to survive.

The colour system was easy to understand and simple to control. However, mastering the timing and chaining together blocks was no mean feat. If you select the correct colour and successfully parry an attack, you’ll injure your opponent while adding energy to your attack bar. Once your opponent is floored, you must use a special attack to defeat them once and for all.

The hero explores a beautiful wilderness.
Some light amongst the darkness.

Skill trees.

The combat was a test of agility, reflexes, and dexterity. Yet, it also rewards you with skill points to improve the hero. Accordingly, once you’ve finished dancing and hitting your enemies, you can collect shards to add health, improve attacks, and so forth. Alongside this, you may upgrade your abilities to make each fight much easier.

How you choose to evolve is entirely your choice. Though it doesn’t alter the main route of the game, it does change your approach. Moreover, it gives you a tactical advantage depending on which creature you are facing. Some of your opponents are agile and fast. Whereas others are slow, powerful, and large. Things are then made worse when you tackle more than one creature at once. When this happens, you must think fast and dodge and parry as quickly as possible.

Strayed Lights looks fantastic.

The slick combat was incredible. However, the visuals were equally impressive. The action takes place across several realms. These areas are connected by a central hub and an array of portals. As you step into each world, you experience a unique and dreamlike environment. Furthermore, you are free to explore as you wish. Yet, the game follows a semi-linear approach, so you are eventually funnelled towards the correct path.

Thanks to the interesting level design and the incredibly varied monsters, you won’t get bored. Additionally, the slick combat and excellent animation are fascinating. The developers have done an amazing job of creating a weird and surreal environment without leaving you feeling too confused.

A combination of airy and aggressive songs will impress you. Strayed Lights has no dialogue, so the emotion and the story are driven by body language alone. Consequently, the music was key to creating an interesting and captivating atmosphere. On top of this, the extraordinary sound effects add to the drama. I adored the crash of each blow and the execution of every epic finishing move.

An oppressive cave awaits you.
That’s a little eerie.

Intuitive controls.

Strayed Lights works so well because its control system is phenomenal. The intuitive controls and excellent layout make high-pressure situations a little more bearable. Moreover, whenever you are facing multiple opponents, you’ll need to flit between colours in an instant. Therefore, the responsive inputs were essential to make this game a success.

As you explore each world, you’ll encounter rings of power. Each of these items can be collected to improve your abilities. However, you must find a considerable amount if you wish to upgrade your hero. Subsequently, this ensures that you explore each level thoroughly. What’s more, there are several worlds to explore and plenty of siblings to soothe. As such, there is replay value and longevity to enjoy.

Strayed Lights wasn’t on my radar.

Before this review, Strayed Lights wasn’t on my radar. Furthermore, I hadn’t heard of it and I fear it could be missed by many gamers. As such, they’ll miss out on a wonderful, albeit strange, experience. Thanks to its incredible combat, amazing audio, and excellent stage design, this stands out from its peers. However, a lack of guidance may frustrate some, especially when you are desperate to progress the story. Yet, despite these minor shortcomings, I recommend that you buy it here! Can you overcome your inner turmoil and fulfil your potential? Dodge, parry, and soothe your way to victory.

News: Moga XP-Ultra Controller

No matter how many controllers hit the market, I still get excited. Furthermore, the more technology advances, the better each device becomes. Accordingly, when PowerA announced the Moga XP-Ultra Controller, I instantly paid attention.

This sexy controller is the first officially licenced wireless pad for use with the Xbox Series S/X. Moreover, it can seamlessly be connected to any Windows 10/11 PC, Android mobile phone, or compatible TV device. Furthermore, the 4-in-1 modular design includes a compact mini-pad with crisp buttons, a concave D-pad, impulse triggers, and more. As such, this market-leading device is versatile as well as being jam-packed with features.

What other features does the Moga XP-Ultra Controller have?

Alongside the excellent design features, you’ll enjoy a full-sized ergonomic grip. This adds built-in rumble motors, two advanced mappable rear buttons, and a mobile gaming clip. The rumble motors create an immersive experience for any game you play. Whether it is the roar of your tyres, the explosion of a bomb, or the crack of a bullet, the rumble feature will bring the game to life. On top of this, the mappable buttons enable you to play like an elite gamer. These tactile inputs can be changed on the fly and will give you an edge over any of your competitors.

Like many of the PowerA and Moga products, this new pad is built to last. However, if there are any issues, you can relax as each controller has a 2-year warranty as standard. Another element that is reassuring is the exceptional 2000 Mah battery. We’ve all been there when we’re playing online and our batteries have died. Well, worry not, as that is a thing of the past! The Moga XP-Ultra Controller offers up to 60 hours of gameplay via Xbox Wireless Protocol or 40 hours on Bluetooth.

Cloud Gaming and the Moga XP-Ultra Controller go hand-in-hand.

There are some exceptional Cloud Gaming controllers on the market. PowerA has an exceptional range, as do Turtle BeachGameSir, and Nacon. Yet, the Moga XP-Ultra Controller aims to become the leading light of this market. The sturdy gaming clip securely houses your phone while delivering a balanced experience. This excellent design ensures that you’ll make the most of your Game Pass subscription whilst you commute.

If the idea of this interesting controller takes your fancy, there are several online retailers selling it. Available for $129.99, you can order yours from PowerA, Amazon, and other retailers.

Review: Abalon

If roguelikes, strategy RPGs, and Magic the Gathering deck-building sound appealing to you, Abalon might be for you. Abalon is a roguelike developed by D20Studios, LLC, and published by WhisperGames that offers plenty of content, engaging gameplay, and well-developed lore. Despite the hideous art style, this is a very enjoyable game with great depth that will keep you engaged for hours.

Guide Your Way To Victory

Abalon doesn’t have a story, instead, the stories are what you create through your adventure. You play as a guide, essentially a voice from the heavens. As a guide, you must guide your summoner through dangerous lands and defeat three bosses. Along the way, you will find cards that your summoner can use to cast spells and summon creatures. Furthermore, you may find characters willing to act as guardians along your travels and expand your party further. On top of all this, you may even find hidden lore, which tells you more about the world of Abalon and may also give you hints about the boss’s weaknesses and other enemies.

While Abalon is seemingly lacking in story, it is designed to be played multiple times, with content unlocking as you play more and more of the game. As such, it’s great that there isn’t much story as it means you won’t have to reread story cutscenes whenever you want to start a new adventure. Moreover, the hidden lore is a great way to build the world while providing hints to the player. Overall, I like how this game handled the story as it is non-intrusive.

Will you save the bear?

Goblins, Golems, And Dragons

As stated earlier, the gameplay in Abalon is a mix between Roguelike, Strategy RPG, and Magic The Gathering. However, before beginning your adventure you will need to choose a difficulty and a summoner. Due to the limited difficulty options, I found myself craving a feature where I could customize these options. However, the available options work well enough to make the game as welcoming as possible. Regardless, on your adventure you will encounter random events, like walking into a goblin birthday party or saving a monster. Unfortunately, these events tend to repeat. There were multiple instances where I would run across the same few events. Thankfully, these random events are only a small fraction of the game and would never detract from the actual battles.

When you encounter an enemy in Abalon, the map turns into a grid-based one, similar to the likes of Fire Emblem and Advanced Wars. It is here, where you will take turns using your characters to fight the enemy in a style that is like the aforementioned games. However, unlike those games, in Abalon you can also use cards to summon more allies or even cast spells that deal magic damage. These cards work similarly to how they would in Magic The Gathering where each card has a mana cost. I enjoyed this gameplay style. It’s fun building decks and changing companions to adapt to different circumstances. As a result of the large catalog of cards, this system has a lot of depth, making repeat playthroughs just as enjoyable.

A Face Only A Guide Could Love

Abalon looks awful. While the animations and environments look fine enough, the character designs are atrocious. This is because of the garbage art style that looks cheap. I understand that it is an indie game with a smaller budget however, I feel like this could have been handled better. Fortunately, the art style isn’t ugly enough to stop me from enjoying this game. However, that doesn’t excuse the presentation being the weakest element of this game. This is evident in the soundtrack, which sounds like very generic fantasy music. As stated before though, the weak presentation didn’t hinder my enjoyment of the game.

A Summoners Fate

Abalon is a fantastic game that is worth checking out. It has incredibly fun gameplay with plenty of depth to keep you hooked for hours. It also has a fantastic setting with beautifully written lore. Underneath the awful art style is a great game with content that will keep you playing. I strongly recommend giving this game a chance if it at all sounds interesting to you as I think it is a great game.
