Microsoft and Epic Games today revealed details about a new mode called Free-For-All in the forthcoming game Gears of War: Judgment.

This new multiplayer experience throws team tactics out the window as each player battles for survival and kills versus all other players. A first for the Gears of War series, the Free-For-All mode pits COG soldier on COG soldier in a test of wits and will.

To debut the new mode with a bang, Epic Games and Microsoft have announced two new maps – Gondola and Library – featuring the Free-For-All Mode:

GONDOLA The Coastal Villa Apartments are part of the exclusive Halvo community located in the prestigious Agora foothills.  Residents enjoy a host of interior upgrades, and each unit features an ocean view from a private patio or balcony.  This quiet, gated community is located only a short gondola ride from the renowned shops and businesses of our active and thriving coastal community.

LIBRARYThe Alexiy Desipich Memorial Library is not a library in the traditional sense, but rather an archive of important documents surrounding his life, career, and personal interests.  An avid historian, politician, and philosopher, Desipich is most remembered as the father and creator of the Austere Canon, the basis for the Coalition of Ordered Governments, which was shaped around eight guiding principles: Order, Diligence, Purity, Labor, Honour, Loyalty, Faith, and Humility.

Free-For-All is the second new multiplayer experience introduced for “Gears of War: Judgment.” It joins OverRun, the thrilling class-based competitive mode that pits Locust and COG soldiers in a head-to-head battle, to give “Gears” fans an addictive gameplay experience.

Developed exclusively for Xbox 360 by Epic Games and People Can Fly, “Gears of War: Judgment” delivers a riveting campaign featuring new characters, weapons and enemies, and new multiplayer experiences. The “Gears of War” series is one of the most popular franchises in Xbox history, having sold more than 18 million games worldwide, and spawning New York Times-bestselling novels, toys, collectibles, graphic novels, and more. SkyDrive App for Android Released

2

Microsoft has now released an official app for SkyDrive on Android.  Read on for details.

SkyDrive_small2

A few weeks ago, we told you that Microsoft intended to released an Android app for SkyDrive.  Well, they went ahead and released it today!  Details:

A few weeks ago we announced our intention to release an official SkyDrive app for Android phones. Today we’re excited to announce that the app is now available for download. We want to ensure that you’re able to have your files accessible across the various devices you use—so it’s important that we continue to extend the SkyDrive experience to the devices you use every day. This new app for Android is similar to our mobile apps for Windows Phone and iOS and is a key part of making sure your SkyDrive files are accessible and shareable from all your devices.

In building the new SkyDrive app for Android, we wanted to ensure we kept the same intuitive design of all SkyDrive experiences while also making use of Android design patterns and conventional interactions, so this feels natural for people with Android phones. In this release, SkyDrive is available for Android phones with access to Google Play. The new app is designed to work best with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)—though it’s also fully functional on Android 2.3 and above.

…here is a more detailed list of some of the main features of SkyDrive for Android:

  • Access your SkyDrive—documents, photos, and other files, plus the files other people have shared with you.
  • View recently used documents.
  • Choose multiple photos or videos to upload from your phone.
  • Share your files and photos—send a link in email or in another app.
  • Open your SkyDrive files from other Android apps.
  • Easily manage your files—delete or create new folders.

While intended for Android 4.0, it will run on any device sporting at least 2.3…so go ahead and download the app from the Google Play Store here.  It is really nice to see Microsoft going the distance on platform support for their cloud storage service.

Enjoy these screen shots from the blog post.

First 7 tracks for We Sing 80s game revealed

0

Following the success of We Sing Pop!, the first 7 tracks for We Sing 80’s have been revealed.

80s_2D_Large_UKV_RGB

The 80s will be remembered for many things – big hair, fluorescent socks and Cabbage Patch Kids, to name but three – but perhaps its most famous export is the music.

Fans of the decade which gave us power ballads, soft rock and some of the most memorable songs ever written are in for a treat this October, as Nordic Games Publishing announces We Sing 80s.

We Sing 80s will feature 30 nostalgic favourites, covering the unforgettable decade’s cult hits and dazzling disco tracks, all of which include the original videos. Each song has its own difficulty rating and can be played in short or full length song modes.

Party mode includes We Sing, Versus, Group Battle, Pass The Mic, First to X, Marathon, Blind and Expert. There’s also Solo mode, which can also be played in Blind and Expert mode. Karaoke mode strips the track of vocals to really challenge players, or those that fancy an authentic karaoke experience.

Other features include Singing Lessons to help singers fine tune their voices and a Jukebox to queue up songs like their own personal music channel.

In-game awards come from playing either single or multiplayer modes, adding further depth and replay value to We Sing 80s. Plus, once a track has been sung, players can replay performances and add cool effects to their voice.

More points come thanks to Star Notes which provides extra points for hitting hard notes and Player Statistics give a detailed breakdown on performance on notes hit and missed with a comment on your performance at the end.

Kylie_HD

The undisputed queen of 80s Pop, Kylie Minogue released I Should Be So lucky all the way back in 1987. Still regarded as one her most memorable tracks, the sugary sweet pop song was a top 10 hit  in charts across the globe from Australia to the UK and everywhere in between.

SpandauBallet_HD

Spandau Ballet were one of the most successful bands of the 1980s and their song titled True from their 1983 album of the same name was a huge worldwide hit. True remained UK number for one for four weeks in 1983, making it the sixth biggest selling single of the year.

Yazz_HD

The Only Way Is Up sung by Yazz & the Plastic Population became a chart-topping single in 1988. The song’s popularity continues today, featuring as the official theme tune for the award winning ITV2 series; The Only Way Is Essex.

MusicalYouth_HD

Musical Youth, a British reggae band, are best remembered for their song released in 1983, Pass the Dutchie.  Having been a number one hit across the globe, Pass the Dutchie sold over 5 million copies and sat at the top of the charts for three weeks in the UK.

Debarge_HD

DeBarge’s Rhythm of the Night was a 1985 hit from the American R&B based band. It was DeBarge’s biggest success yet, hitting number three on the Billboard Hot 100. Rhythm of the Night also coincided with the release of the Motown film, The Last Dragon.

SmokeyRobinson_HD

Being With You is a 1981 hit from American singer-songwriter Smokey Robinson. The song spent five weeks at number one on the Hot Soul Singles chart in the US and also reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100. The song’s appeal also stretched across the Atlantic and was a number one hit for two weeks in the UK during the summer of 1981.

Roxette_HD

The Look was released as a single in 1989 by Roxette and their ’breakthrough’ song reached the top of the charts in over 26 countries. The Look reached number one in the US and number seven in the UK.

So that’s the first 7 of the 30 tracks revealed. Back at Gamescom a few weeks ago I got a sneak preview of the rest of the tracks, and even sang one of them, although I can’t say what that song was because it’s not one of the ones above.

Dropbox adds additional security with two-step authentication

In order to increase the security of accounts, Dropbox has added two-step authentication to it’s accounts – you just have to enable it.

modal2

This is what Dropbox posted:

Today we’d like to announce the launch of two-step verification, a feature that will enhance the security of your Dropbox by requiring two levels of authentication: your password, and a security code that will either be texted to your mobile phone or generated by a mobile authenticator app (available for iOS, Android, Blackberry and Windows Phone 7).

Turning on two-step verification is simple: go to the new Security tab in your Dropbox account settings and enable two-step verification in the “Account sign in” section.

From there, just follow the steps to set up two-step verification. Detailed setup instructions are also available in our Help Center. On your desktop or mobile devices, you’ll only need the code the first time you sign in to Dropbox. On the web, you can also select the option to “Trust this computer” and you won’t need to re-enter a code again.

Two-step verification is one of several steps that we’re taking to enhance the security of your Dropbox. We’ve also created a way for you to view all active logins to your account on the Security tab, and we’re working on automated mechanisms to identify suspicious activity.

I would highly recommend enabling this feature!
