Here is the second in a three-part video series that goes into the heart of the SQUARE ENIX development studios like never before.

Inside The Square” gives a first-ever video look inside the team bringing LIGHTNING RETURNS: FINAL FANTASY XIII to reality, where the talented development team members give insights into the creation of the game.

Narrated by Lightning herself (Voice Actress Ali Hillis), and captured at the Square Enix headquarters in Tokyo, this episode takes a behind-the-scenes look at how the legendary designs, scores and settings come together to create an immersive world in LIGHTNING RETURNS: FINAL FANTASY XIII. Featuring never-before-seen footage, Part 2 goes into detail on renowned Character Designer, Tetsuya Nomura’s costume designs and sketches, along with the challenges that the composers faced when creating entirely new and dramatic scores that fit with the theme of the game.

LIGHTNING RETURNS: FINAL FANTASY XIII will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on 14th February 2014 in Europe and PAL territories.

How to Access the Dev Kit Option on the Retail Xbox One

Over the weekend the option on how to access the Dev kit menu in the Retail Xbox one was revealed on Logic-Sunrise.com and from a Reddit user LiamHing. Its was back in August at Gamescom this year it was revealed that the Xbox One retail boxes can be used to develop games and apps in the near Future.

Reddit user XboxOneDev, whose username is tagged as an Xbox One developer on Reddit, warned against enabling the functionality in a comment on the thread.

“Please don’t mess with anything here for the time being, especially the sandbox ID,” XboxOneDev wrote. “You risk putting your box into a boot loop.”

XboxOneDev acknowledged that he has “no idea how far along the ID@Xbox program is. There are many concerns such as privacy, security, stability etc, that need to be sorted out before we can allow anyone and everyone to simply sideload an app onto their box.”

So a Word of warning don’t mess for the Devkit / debug option at the moment.

 

Batman : Arkham Origins, Initiation Challenge Map add-on out tomorrow

Tomorrow, 3rd December Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will be releasing the Initiation Challenge Map Add-On for Batman : Arkham Origins on the PlayStation Network, Xbox LIVE, Steam and Nintendo eShop for £5.49.

The Initiation Add-On focuses on Bruce Wayne before he donned his cowl, and introduces a new challenge campaign with four unique challenge maps and two original skins –  Initiation Bruce Wayne and Vigilante Bruce Wayne.  Players who have purchased the Batman: Arkham Origins Season Pass and are connected to the Internet will have instant access to the content.

Set high in the Paektu-San Mountains of North Korea, the Initiation Add-On follows a young Bruce Wayne as he faces his ultimate test.  Players will embark upon a series of challenge maps that test their martial arts training across exotic locales, including a bamboo forest and a mountain top monastery. Fans will face fresh enemies along with an epic final test to prove their worthiness to Bruce’s greatest and most pitiless teacher, Kirigi.

SEGA and Creative Assembly announces Total War:ROME II –Caesar in Gaul

Caesar in Gaul is the first campaign expansion for ROME II, and brings Caesar’s Gallic war to life in thrilling detail. Offering a tighter scope in terms of time and geography than ROME II, the Caesar in Gaul campaign map offers an expanded, more detailed vision of Gaul and the south coast of Britannia.

Players can choose from four playable factions in this conflict: the Gallic Arverni, the Germanic Suebi, the Belgic Nervii and Rome; in a campaign inspired by Caesar’s Commentarii de bello Gallico (Commentaries on the Gallic war).

Caesar in Gaul brings a number of new features to ROME II:

New campaign map: The expanded map of Gaul and southern Britannia brings 18 provinces to conquer, fully detailed with resources, settlements, capitals, and new environmental effects.

Greater focus on characters: Play through the campaign with faction-leading avatars such as Caesar and Vercingetorix.

24 turns per year & seasons: A shorter campaign timespan (58-51BC) means each in-game year is split into more turns. As the calendar changes, so do the seasons, bringing seasonal gameplay effects and stunning visual alterations.

New mid-game challenge mechanics: Caesar in Gaul replaces ROME II’s civil war with different, conflict-appropriate mechanics. As barbarian players progress, they’ll begin to feel the mailed fist of Rome as heavy intervention forces are sent to Gaul. Likewise, Roman players will see the tribes rebelling and forming alliances.

Compact, focussed multiplayer campaign: With a tighter geographic scope and faction-roster, 2-player campaigns are more focussed and less time-consuming than the full ROME II campaign.

New historical battle: Surrounded and outnumbered, take on the role of Caesar as he fights the last desperate, decisive engagement of the Gallic War: the battle of Alesia.

Microsoft and Warner Bros launch first ever ad featuring 3D Printers

Today in the UK Microsoft Advertising and Warner Bros  announced the launch of a new cross-platform campaign to support the 13th December release of The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, a production of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures (MGM).

Running across MSN, Xbox 360 and Windows 8, the creative experience will be unified across all platforms, giving consumers an interactive, deep-dive into the film, with additional features, including information about key characters, events and artefacts from the movie, actor biographies, behind-the-scenes videos and desktop wallpapers available for download. The campaign is also the first of its kind to offer to a free blueprint download for a 3D printer to consumers from advertising.

In a unique advertising initiative, the Ads-in-Apps creative on Windows 8 will also offer Hobbit fans a free blueprint download for a 3D-printed model of “The Key to Erebor” – a major artefact in the film’s plot – on the day the film is released: 13th December 2013.  Fans will be invited to simply download the blueprint from the ad and connect to any 3D printer to produce their very own collectable memorabilia from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug for the cost of the print.

The campaign call-to-action drives consumers to the official Hobbit movie website, where they can book tickets to see the new film, and includes links to watch the first instalment, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey through the Xbox Video app. The Xbox 360 Landing Experience will also be Kinect-enabled, adding to the interactive experience with voice and gesture controls.  This campaign is the first custom built Ads-in-Apps advertising for an entertainment client on Windows 8 globally.

Battlefield 4 Brings the fight to the UK

To mark the highly anticipated launch of blockbuster shooter Battlefield 4 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, EA have partnered with artist and Battlefield fan James Chadderton to give gamers a glimpse of how the UK’s streets would look if the game was set in some of the country’s biggest cities.

Battlefield 4 lets players duke it out across war torn combat zones all over the planet, from Azerbaijan to China, but leaves the UK unscathed in its digital version of global conflict. Chadderton, known for his awe-inspiring, photo-realistic prints of post-apocalyptic urban vistas, has created a series of images to show the effects of Battlefield‘s epic destruction on the nation’s capital.

Whether it be levelling the once-gleaming hub of London’s financial district as soldiers make their way through the rubble or toppling one of the most recognisable statues in the heart of the capital with a well-placed missile, these images give a glimpse into an alternate, game-inspired reality where battles rage throughout Great Britain with the same devastation and chaos found in Battlefield 4. The striking images were painstakingly put together from a series of digital composites and hand-drawn elements, with each one taking approximately 120 hours to complete.

PS4 Midnight Launch was a packed out event at Covent Garden

With the PlayStation 4 officially launched in the UK last night and gamers up and down the country came out in their thousands to celebrate finally getting their hands on the long-awaited next generation console.

At the PS4 Lounge #4ThePlayers in Covent Garden, hundreds of fans queued through the night, and some from as early as Tuesday afternoon, to pick up pre-orders and purchase a limited number of stock that was available to buy on the night.

PS4 is the most powerful games console ever made, ten times more powerful than the PS3.  It offers rich, high fidelity graphics, is designed for immediacy with minimal barriers between the player and the game, and boasts full social integration with a dedicated Share button built into the new DUALSHOCK® 4 controller.

Blaine Smith, 25, from Bedford, was the first person in the UK to pre-order his PS4 via GAME back in February. At the PS4 Lounge midnight launch he was given the ultimate reward of becoming the first person in the country to get his hands on the new console, which was presented to him by Tinie Tempah and Sony Computer Entertainment’s Global CEO, Andrew House.

“I am delighted to have played a part in one of the biggest launches in gaming history”, Blaine said. “The early bird most definitely catches the worm, and I’m so happy to finally have PS4 in my hands after ordering it so long ago. Despite queuing through the night I went straight home, set it up and started playing immediately…I just couldn’t wait any longer!”

Imran Chowdri from London, was the first person in the queue to buy the limited free stock, and showed incredible levels of dedication by queuing since 4pm on Tuesday afternoon. Imran said; “It was always my goal to try and be one of the first people to get hold of a PS4 and I am so happy to have now achieved that. I didn’t get a chance to pre-order before they sold out so I decided I just had to get down here, it certainly takes a lot of commitment and it’s been a very cold wait – but it all feels worth it to be able to walk away with my PS4”. 

Gamers at the PS4 lounge were treated to an exclusive performance from Tinie Tempah just before the clock struck twelve. Tinie says:  “I’m honoured to be part of gaming history at the launch of the new PS4. I’m a huge gaming fan and have been anticipating this day for months. The crowd was amazing and I could feel the excitement in the room as gamers geared up to pick up their PS4s.”
