Destiny is the most pre-ordered new video game IP in history, which has won over 180 awards and nominations, setting the stage for Destiny to become one of the biggest entertainment launches of the year, and the next big blockbuster franchise in gaming. In July, over 4.6 million people tested Destiny in what became the biggest beta of this console generation. Millions are expected to start playing the full game today.

“Destiny has been a labour of love and a remarkable creative journey for everyone at Activision and Bungie,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing Inc. “We feel that we have the opportunity to launch something huge – not just into the gaming landscape, but the pop cultural landscape. Arriving at our launch day with this much support and enthusiasm from fans and retailers is downright exciting. Moments like this just don’t come around very often.”

Destiny is the game we’ve always wanted to make,” said Harold Ryan, Bungie president. “We’ve dreamt of this universe for years, so we couldn’t be more thrilled to swing open the doors and let fans shape this experience as they tell their unique stories in the game. For us, the next generation of games is all about allowing players to collide and interact with each other as they take on epic, action packed adventures all their own.”

In addition to the launch of the game, the Destiny Expansion Pass is available for purchase. The Expansion Pass will extend the Destiny adventure after the launch of the game, with two expansions, both of which will include brand new story missions, cooperative activities and competitive multiplayer arenas, and a wealth of all new weapons, armour and gear to earn. Over the course of your adventures you will become more powerful as you wield rare and exotic weapons, gear, and super abilities. In addition to the story campaign, you can take your unique character into any co-operative or competitive activity, including the ability to compete with or against your friends in The Crucible, Destiny’s competitive multiplayer mode featuring numerous playlists and maps spanning diverse environments across the galaxy.

0

As Smartwatches are being unveiled all over the place over the pass few months, but none has garnered so much enthusiasm as Motorola’s Moto 360. When you compared to the almost retro square watches on offer from the Sony Smartwatch 3 and Asus ZenWatch, for example, but the Moto 360’s lovely round face is the epitome of class.

moto 360

The Moto 360 was the only round smartwatch around until LG popped up to steal Motorola’s thunder with the LG Watch R. With the Motorola smartwatch has a bigger touchscreen than LG’s model, at 1.5in compared to 1.3in, but it has a slightly lower resolution, with 320×290 pixels rather than 320×320 for the LG G Watch R.

Moto G gets a bigger boost

Also today Motorola has upgraded the original Moto G from a 4.5 inch device to a 5 inch device.

It’s the exact same Snapdragon 400 as the Moto G inside, with 1GB of RAM, and it’s running on Android 4.4.4 KitKat with a guaranteed upgrade to Android L when the time comes. That sounds futureproof enough but oddly this Moto G doesn’t support 4G even though we’ve already seen a 4.5in model that does in the UK.

The cameras have had a boost with a new 8MP sensor on the back and an upgraded 2MP on the front, both do 720p video.

The resolution is still 1,280×720, so the new Moto G actually has a lower pixel density of 293 PPI (pixels-per-inch) compared to the old Moto G’s PPI of 326, but the screen still looked perfectly crisp and sharp.

The new Moto G phone uses the volume button to activate the camera shutter but as with the one-tap capture function.

moto g news

The Moto G uses the same sized 2070mAh unit as first Moto G from November last year.

The new camera is the most exciting addition, followed by the microSD slot for up to 32GB of expandable memory.

Welcome to the New Moto X

Today Motorola has announced a new Moto X smartphone the orginal was released in August 2013 in North America with the UK getting the device in April of this year. What has Motorola done to the new Moto X sit back and read below.

moto_x_new 2

Display for the new Moto X

With the new Moto X it now features a much bigger display coming from a nice 4.7 inch display to a even bigger 5.2 inches, an 18% increase in screen area. But the new display has jumped from 1280 x 720 to 1980 x 1080 pixels making for a much richer display experience.

Now Motorola brings the richness and details that’s essential for a display of this size. It now sports 423ppi, a higher density than the first generation Moto X. The Moto X is a rich and vibrant, with added detail and appears to offer good viewing angles.

Dual speakers now frame that large display and enhance and improve audio playback whether you are watching videos or playing games. The screen dominates the design, which for the most part is fairly minimal allowing your customisations like the leather back to stand on their own merit.

Camera

Motorola has also upgraded the camera in the Moto X, from 10 to 13 megapixels (with a slightly larger f2.25 aperture). Also Motorola has now added a dual flash for hopefully improved low-light photography, and the new sensor also has support for 4K video recording.

The handset will be available in a number of finishes, too, thanks to Motorola’s online Moto Maker design service.  Which was previously only available in the US, but now it’s coming to the UK at last later this month to co incide with the launch of the new Moto X.

With Moto Maker, you can customise the X’s rear panel, front panel and trim colour, as well as upgrade the phone’s storage from the default 16GB to 32GB as there’s no microSD card to expand it at a later date. You can also engrave it with your own message on the lower back panel.

You can also personalise certain parts of the Moto X’s software, including a power on greeting when you first turn the phone on and the wallpaper.

Also Moto Maker will automatically suggest a series of wallpapers based on your Moto X’s design and colour choices, but you’ll also have the option to select other wallpapers from a pre-configured gallery.

You can also specify whether you’d like a charger, you can also pre configure your Google account so it’s ready to use straight out of the box for you. Pre-curated Moto X designs will also be available to view and buy in case you need inspiration.

Bayonetta 2 launches on Wii U 24th October and more

0

A new Nintendo Direct video detailed some of the exhilarating aspects of Wii U exclusive, Bayonetta 2 First Print Edition which is exclusive to Europe – and houses disc versions of Bayonetta 2 and the Wii U Bayonetta remake, plus The Art of Bayonetta 2 art book, in special 3D embossed leather-effect packaging that faithfully recreates The Hierarchy of Laguna, the book of angels that documents the angelic foes Bayonetta meets on her adventures, making this a striking edition for devotees of the Umbra Witch. Bayonetta 2 coming to Wii U on 24th October for the UK and North America the same day.

At launch, European fans will have three retail editions to choose from: the newly announced First Print Edition Special Edition which bundles disc versions of Bayonetta 2 and Bayonetta together, or the solus edition which includes just Bayonetta 2.

In addition, digital versions of Bayonetta 2 and Bayonetta can be purchased on Nintendo eShop at launch, and those who buy one title can obtain the other one at a discounted price.

Nintendo also announced for the first time that the cosplay costumes available in the Wii U remake of Bayonetta will also be available in Bayonetta 2. These include Bayonetta’s wild takes on Princess Peach, Link and Samus, and – exclusive to Bayonetta 2 – a surprise star mercenary is also featured in her wardrobe in an outfit reminiscent of Fox McCloud, the hero of the Star Fox games.

Furthermore, the Nintendo Direct revealed Rodin as a playable character in Tag Climax, Bayonetta 2’s new online co-op mode, and showed off the first footage of multiplayer action.

The Nintendo Direct also provided more details about previously announced features of Bayonetta 2, including characters, storyline, combat mechanics, weapons, magic, Bayonetta’s trademark Torture Attacks and the new Umbran Climax. Viewers learned about Muspelheim challenge rooms, how the ranking system works, and how to spend their hard-fought Halos to buy items and skills, or modify weapons. It’s a must-watch for anyone who wants to be ready to take down their opponents in style.

Using the TomTom GO 500

The first thing you need to do is charge up the 500, which you can easily do either in your car or from a computer – all the cables and connectors you need are provided. Once you have registered the 500 and you are ready to use it, place the mount against the windscreen and twist to lock it into place. Then you just slot the 500 into the windscreen mount, which is very secure, then you just have to position the 500 into a comfortable viewing angle. To remove the 500 you just lift it out – although for security reasons you may want to not leave the mount on the windscreen!

Final Thoughts

Out the box the TomTom GO 500 is about the size of a smartphone and is fairly lightweight. It is easy to setup and configure and you will be using it in no time at all.

The TomTom GO 500 also comes with both lifetime maps and lifetime traffic. The maps part alone will save you a significant amount of money over the life of the device. You can have four updates a year to the maps so I would highly recommend updating each time so you are on the latest maps. Traffic is a really useful addition – the number of times my route was diverted because of traffic problems and I didn’t need to do anything, was greatly appreciated! You also get 3 months worth of speed camera locations, so it’s up to you if you want to continue with that feature or not.

Unlike some other satnav’s, the GO 500 has an interactive map which makes it very easy to make changes and selections by just tapping somewhere on the screen. For example, if you are looking at the map and you decide you want to go to a different location show, just long-press the location and choose to add to your current route. It’s as simple as that! And because the screen has a beautiful 5 inch display, it is very clear and easy to use, which is obviously something you want on a satnav.

And talking of maps, the cities on the maps are in 3D. Now this isn’t exactly a new feature for satnavs, but the GO 500 tries to make the landmarks and locations as easy to spot as possible, and thus help you drive around those locations, and it does it very well, for example, around those locations, the roads are shown a little wider on the screen to help navigation. It may not seem like much, but it makes a lot of difference.

There is also a route bar displayed on the screen which is an aid to seeing what is coming up on the route, so for example if there were a problem later on your route, it would be displayed so that it gives you a chance to look at alternative options. This is a very useful feature as well and you will wonder how you ever drove without it!

Adding in a location is very simple as well – just start typing a location and the GO 500 starts making suggestions that could help.

All in all, I was very impressed with the TomTom GO 500 and highly recommend it as a useful addition to any car.

The TomTom GO 500 retails for around £179 but as usual look for a good deal before purchasing. And keep an eye on CDW as we will be giving this one away soon.

First Look: X-Mercs: Invasion

0

If you’re at all into X-COM, turn based strategy games and mobile games, then have I seen the game for you; this year at Gamescom, I was fortunate enough to get hands on with the fantastic, X-Mercs: Invasion from Game Insight.

GI_XMercs_Invasion_003

With solid narrative elements, don’t let the fact that it’s a mobile game put you off. As the leader of a Military Corporation, your tasks, outside of battling for survival, include creating a base of command, researching new technology and crafting new weapons for your operatives.

If you’ve ever played games such as X-COM or Shadowrun, you’ll know what to expect; if you haven’t, then why not?! Gameplay involves strategic turn based combat where movement, positioning and planning are all keys to success. In classic isometric style, you’ll be able to flank enemies, take over and choose whether or not to attack. Special abilities that individual characters possess will also dramatically alter your choices in combat too.

It’s not only the classic gameplay that should get you excited either, outside of the addictive main game, you’ll also have plenty to tinker with too. Customisation runs rampant throughout X-Mercs, whether it be the trivial, yet unaccountably vital option of deciding upon the aesthetic character choices, or the more integral upgrade trees. Each character can rank up, select a bonus from an extensive tree and equip different weapons and armours. Not only this, but there’s also an extensive technology tree featuring over 100 options to work through too.

GI_XMercs_Invasion_002

For those worried about the longevity of this free to play title, they need not be, as content certainly appears to be a key factor. On top of the main missions, there are hundreds of side objectives to complete, over 50 enemy types and more than 50 diverse buildings with which to construct your base.

Due to their incorporation of the Unity engine, X-Mercs looks the part too, the characteristic isometric view is punctuated with zoomed, angular shots, rotation of the camera and a myriad of locales. Deserts, ruined cities and alien ships each have their own unique styles and artwork to further reinforce the feeling of scope and scale.

Out soon on both Android and Apple devices, X-Mercs: Invasion is almost certainly going to be one of those games that I’ll end up turning off my PS4 to play instead; with the favourably huge amount of content on show so far, I imagine I won’t be the only one!
